In short, Assassin's Creed Rogue Remastered offers the opportunity to enjoy a great video game of the past generation in 4k, if you haven't played it yet through backward compatibility. The strong point of Rogue is the story of Shay Patrick Cormac which is one of the most interesting in the series. In addition, it completes the events of the American trilogy and connects it with what will happen later in Unity. However, it still has the flaws that it already had in its launch in 2014. For example, a very bad AI.

It’s exciting to re-board the Morrigan and step into the boots of Shay Cormac. The ground combat may feel the effect of age, but the naval combat remains a highlight of the series. While a lot of people may have chased Unity onto the new generation of hardware, missing Rogue in the process, now they can enjoy the crowning jewel of the Americas Trilogy at 4K, which looks better than ever.

Though it fails to satisfyingly remaster the game's visuals, Assassin's Creed Rogue Remastered nevertheless brings the original game to the Xbox One with perfect performance and every feature that made it great in the first place.

It may feel a little alien going back to playing a more classically-styled Assassin's Creed game after the astonishing Assassin's Creed Origins, but Assassin's Creed Rogue still shines bright.

Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered is a modest remaster but a good one. While some other options would’ve been appreciated to prioritise framerate over resolution, the game itself still stands up four years on. It’s missing some of the bells and whistles that games like Origins have since introduced, but it’s unique premise and concept means it’s an experience most Assassin’s Creed fans shouldn’t miss.

Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered brings back one of the most interesting titles in the series, along with all previously released DLC. The visual improvements are top notch for the most part, but technical issues from the original version have come along for the ride too. That being said, it’s well worth a trip down memory lane, warts and all.

A remastering that brings us everything that the game had originally but with a much superior artistic quality, especially on Xbox One X.

The visual rework may not be the best we've seen, but this 2018 Assassin's Creed Rogue edition is a true opportunity for all the players who missed the game in 2014.

Rogue is a title that released at a terrible time and on consoles that a lot of people had already put in storage. It is nice to see this game get a second chance. It is a great entry in the series, and one that takes the story in places it had never gone. Mix it with the addictive sailing of Black Flag and I definitely recommend it to fans of the series. Don’t sleep on this title. It is definitely worth checking out.

Rogue is very good at connecting multiple Assassin's Creed-games. The battle between the Assassins and the Templars is very well written.

Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered is a good game, there is a lot to do, and it comes with a decent price tag, but it feels like a ghost of the past compared to the excellent newer games and whilst that leaves it as a must try for Assassin’s Creed completionists, those brought up on Unity, Syndicate and Origins may disagree.

If you’re a more casual fan of the series then this is only the fourth-best Assassin’s Creed on current-gen hardware, and there are other, stronger open-world games around if you just want more of this kind of thing. It’s great to see Rogue return looking so good, but it seems destined to remain a side-story, not a classic chapter in the saga.

A remaster that only improves the visual of the original game, retaining everything else from the 2014 game, including its old school mechanics and flaws. Doesn't do enough.

While Rogue is polished and tells a different story than one you'd normally encounter in the Assassin's Creed franchise, time hasn't done the title any favours.

Origins is too good to return to the Assassin's Creed games of yesterday. [June 2018, p.86]

Rogue felt like a throwback when it was originally released alongside the next-gen Assassin's Creed Unity. This same feeling accompanies this remastered version. After the significant advancements made to the series by last year's Origins, Rogue second outing feels equally dated and mistimed. Ironically for the series, Rogue Remastered proves that going back in time isn't always fun.

Rogue was a game that I did have some enjoyable moments with back in 2014 but it failed in a number of areas which held it back, I was however still interested in the remaster. Thankfully as far as remasters go it’s not a bad effort but unfortunately the problems that dogged the original remain intact in the remaster. Without a doubt my favourite thing about this game is the amount of exploration that’s allowed and having the freedom to do what one wants to do makes the adventure both fun and enjoyable. Unfortunately the story that follows the exploration isn’t as good, and at times it just bored me to death and basically it failed to hold my attention, which is a shame. Thankfully the gameplay isn’t boring and on the whole most of the mechanics that are in play hold up really well, but it isn’t perfect. The main problem with the gameplay that’s present is without a doubt the combat. The combat feels dated already and it lacks in terms of fluidity which meant getting involved in the combat elements often felt like a chore. If you like game’s where you can sink a decent amount of hours into them then you will definitely find that here. They’ve included all the DLC from the original game and the price is pretty reasonable, which is always good. Most of the content which is present is also pretty good and you will definitely enjoy the main campaign missions because they do include you a great deal along the way. The side missions though aren’t as good and I found them to be a little boring and in my opinion I don’t think they should have had as many as they did because it does make things have a repetetive feel. The presentation side of the game is where the most improvements have been implemented and I think they’ve done a good job here. Visually the game looks better than ever and when you accompany them with the improved sound design you end up having a more immersive experience than in the original. At the end of the day if you’ve never played Rogue before then I thoroughly recommend you try this version out before the original. Don’t get me wrong it still has its problems and it isn’t the best Assassin’s Creed game out there but it gets more right than it gets wrong and when exploring the vast world the game can be absolutely brilliant and that’s more than enough to warrant a recommendation from me.
