Exploring Ancient Greece feels rewarding at all times and the attention to detail the world has makes things very immersive from start to finish. I really enjoyed the story because I felt more involved than I’ve ever done before in an Assassin’s Creed game and I think that’s mainly because I was allowed to make my own choices. I’ve always really enjoyed the combat in Assassin’s Creed but for some reason I enjoyed the combat more here because it felt fluid and brutal at all times. In terms of content the game has more than enough to keep you satisfied and the variety the content has means things always stay fresh and interesting. The game suffers with a few technichal issues every now and then, but thankfully these are only slightly annoying instead of game-breaking. Sometimes there’s a bit of grinding required and this does make things become a little tedious. Last year the Assassin’s Creed series was injected with a new lease of life thanks to the fantastic Assassin’s Creed: Origins and I went into playing Odyssey with more excitement than I had with previous game’s because the franchise felt more exciting than it had in year’s. Thankfully once again they’ve delivered and in some ways they’ve improved over last year’s game which in my opinion culminates in making Odyssey one of the best game’s this fantastic franchise has delivered so far. I’ve always liked the visuals and sound design in these game’s but for me this is the best looking and sounding game so far. This then means exploring Ancient Greece always feels rewarding and you’ll no doubt be satisfied with the vast amount of varied content the game has. Obviously one of the most important aspects in this series is its combat and I’m pleased to say that they’ve pulled out all the stops here making it feel fluid and more brutal than ever. This then means that the game has got its important aspects spot on and in terms of problems the game doesn’t have many at all, and the problems it does have are very easy to look past. Recommending Odyssey is incredibly easy then and when it’s all said and done fans of Assassin’s Creed will fall in love with this game immediately because it’s basically perfection. Expand

The storytelling and exploration aspects of the game have also greatly been improved upon, offering a much more tightly woven experience that held my interest all through the very end of the game (provided the conclusion to the story could be considered as such). Despite these technical advances however, it's impossible not to note the fact that the game has about as much to do with assassins as Star Wars has to do with medieval warfare. Though i highly enjoyed my playthrough I couldn't manage to shake the though that Ubisoft would have found much more success had they not attempted to "ride the wave" created by the already long list of entries to the long established series. As a stand alone game AC: Odyssey is a true jewel of video gaming. Just don't expect any templars or any other defining traits of the series. Expand

The game play is quick, intuitive and full of action and excitement. I have been a long time Assassin's Creed fan and have played and completed them all except the side scrolling ones and Liberation (played but not completed). Having said that, this game is my favorite in the series. It is a upgraded version of Origins (which is amazing too!). I find myself continually being pulled back to this game and have played it every day with the exceptions of the holidays since launch. I currently am at 140 hours and still have not completed it. However I am going for the 100% so I completely clear areas when I do them.

You can do this game in any order you want once you get a high enough level. The enemies level up with you and that is awesome as it makes all areas the same difficulty. So there are no low level one hit kill enemies (excluding Assassinations once you get your Assassination damage up). The side quests from the boards do get repetitive, but I enjoy them because you get a ton of XP and Drachme ($$) from them and they let you explore areas a little more. This is just part of Ubisofts games and I love it. The unique side quests (Gold “!”on map) are amazing and have their own little stories. Some of them are quite involved and have multiple endings based on your choices. There are even other side quests from random NPCs that are in the woods or other areas while you are just exploring. I also love the tombs where you find the stele and it gives you an ability point. This is a continuation from Origins and they are worth exploring. There are also the return of the history areas which are amazing to read about and find. It is worth going off of the beaten path and exploring.

I have yet to get bored playing this game, and with 140 hours plus whatever it will be once I complete the game I don’t believe that I will be bored. This game also gets updates and new content for free and paid regularly. Since this game has launched there have been some awesome changes. Now you can change the look of your armor and the colors and they keep the same stats. You do not have to have the current item in your inventory to unlock the look either. Once you have looted it you have it unlocked. Also now the level cap is 75 and you get master abilities where you can put up to 20 points into each thing (Sword damage, damage dealt turns into healing, damage to animals, fire etc.) It is amazing!

I got used to the voice actor for Alexios and I like it. He does sound kind of dumb but he is a big muscle ego hero character, and it fits him. I have not played as Kassandra so I cannot say that she is better or not.

As a parent and a person that doesn't have as much time to play at once as I used to the way this game saves is also awesome. It saves right where you left off if you manual save. I mean exactly where you were standing. It helps when you have to stop and save and come back later. My 140 hours are broken up by 30 mins here 2 hours here etc. It helps that this game was made like this.

I give this game a 10/10 because it is amazing, fun to play, the base content of this game is HUGE there is so much to do and with Ubisoft updating it regularly with new content it is even better then I thought. I have only beaten the tutorial of Red Dead Redemption 2 and played some online because this game is so interesting and fun to play and just full of action. It keeps pulling me back. If you read this whole review I hope you found it helpful and if you get the game I hope you enjoy it! I know Ill be playing more and more. Thank you!

I started the game towards the end of January, relatively soon after Origins, which I really liked. Now towards the end of March I finished the game after a total of 85 hours.

Got a total of 55/78 successes (1015 success points). In the end, a progress of 95% after I have done pretty much the most reasonable side quests, all bosses and cultists, as well as discovering every region and upgrading everything.

    Graphics / setting

Hammer. I played on the One X towards the end and the game is just beautiful in places. The characters were beautifully staged and I really like the setting. Even more than Egypt in origins. The landscape was breathtakingly beautiful and, overall, unbelievably huge.

The performance actually always ran smoothly. One or the other time there were funny glitches and graphic bugs, but acceptable for the map size.

    Gameplay

I just like the new AC direction. I really like the combat system and the advanced RPG elements from Origins blend in perfectly with the gameplay flow.

Overall, I would have liked a little more qualitative diversity in the active skills and perhaps a little earlier the very large selection of passive skills. I almost always played by assassination or ultimately hand-to-hand combat, trying pretty much all weapons. I just didn't like the bars, they just didn't have any oomph.

    story

As always, I don't want to write so much here; in any case, I was satisfied with my end. In general, I really liked the trip with Kassandra, a great odyssey.

    Negatives

    - horse physics (ran very buggy)
    - Control sometimes led to unwanted assassinations when you just wanted to loot
    - Mercenary system (actually cool) but not well integrated, too often you can't understand the persecution
    - sometimes the gestures were completely exaggerated

    Conclusion

    9/10 olive trees

As a fan of this style of game, I'm really kind of speechless in how Ubisoft was able to produce something like this. Usually, with these kinds of games, there's at least something that's not quite right - either the game starts off rough, or there's filler content, or the characters are bland or awful. There's always something. But Odyssey doesn't miss a single beat and I can't understand how Ubisoft was able to make something so engaging. At the moment I'm playing through with Kassandra, a total dream woman, so I guess the game got off on the right foot immediately with me. It's as if Ubisoft looked at everything that worked in Assassin's Creed: Origins, kept what worked, ditched what didn't, and then added ten tons of awesome. There's so much action and content in this game, I feel like I underpaid (I picked up the standard edition). On the Xbox One X, the game looks outstanding, controls like a dream, and I think it's the first title on the X that justifies the money I paid for it last year. The RPG dial has been turned up this time, Odysey has BioWare style RPG elements with dialogue choices and consequences for player actions - and they work amazing, it doesn't feel like they were just slapped in. I honestly don't know how much more I can say, it's a game that I'm not able to find anything to criticize (at least not yet. I've not played with Alexios). I can't stop playing. Ubisoft, I don't know how you did this, but stay the course and never change.

For living world (peoples society and animals) also good, but they can do better in terms of living matters and graphics specially for human. I like how they balance between reality and fecticns in general world story and gameplay. For the open world item there are a lot to discover however the price is almost only a beautiful places like visiting a museum and some times tools. I wish they made more verity awards for the discovery like like special abilities, special tools. Gemplay combat:
A new style in the series and I think it is well done and there is a space for improvement.

    Gameplay Stealth kill:
Good and adding bow style is also nice, but I wish there are will action while preforming stealth kill like in Assassin's creed unity or middle earth shadow of mordor.

    Gameplay parkour :
Good and I like how smooth his movement and climbing any thing easily (maybe a little pit more then required). I think better to be more challenging in doing this parkour and climbing. Also I wish they made better action moves while performing parkour such as Assassin's creed unity.

    The Five level story :
Story acting and scenarios in general are good. However It needs more work. Storey for those who comes before covered well
Current day story and abstergo a covered well. The main story of alexios/kassandra is good but it needs more work to be better.
Historical references and events are covered well. Sub stories in the world of the game are good and some are average.

Quests level system, and upgrading system:
Quest is good some are repeated but it's OK because Gameplay is nice. Level system I think it's fine and never bother me. I didn't required to do side quest for just increasing my level. Upgrades some are good and some are not required and it can be better. In general as most of ubisoft games it's good game that it can be better and I think it deserves 85 rating. I but put 10 to balance, because I know a lot's of unprofessional rating the game low blindly.

Every single person on this website that can rate this game below a 5 or 4 needs to review their score for Witcher 3 and reevaluate what the essence of a 'grind' is. All I have seen is moaning and complaining about how 'grindy' the game is when all open-world RPGs have some mild to moderate level of grind.

Marking the addition to the series as a negative based on money you can CHOOSE to spend or not spend is disingenuous and your review is worth goose-egg, as far as I am concerned.

Moving on from this, I was immediately enraptured by the setting. The world is teeming with all of those curious ? marks that you can immediately explore. I wish that your eagle could physically reveal them for you during scan mode but no dice on that. Some weapon styles are superior to others and some fit into the kind of combat style you are looking for. I enjoy the low cost of the Engraving system that allows you to mix and match specific Engravings for abilities on differing pieces of gear. (Legendary set items scale once you get all the pieces, which is a huge plus for end-game.)

There is some definite tedium; I enjoyed the way Origins had a quick dodge within combat where it is seemingly missing in Odyssey for a hold down dodge mechanic where the longer button press, the further you dodge. Not ideal but it's there. I miss the old one. Being able to respec abilities is another plus; very cool if you want to try something different in the talent trees.

The choice of dialogue is better than sitting me through a cutscene and having me answer if I will accept a quest or not. I found myself skipping through Origins scenes incessantly whereas here, I want to see what my differing dialogue choices will net me and what sort of alternating changes that my demeanor will have on future quests, as little or big the ripple in the lake may be.

Ship controls are rather...meticulous for this entry in the series but it can very well the button scheme that I needed to operate with in the manner in which I liked to play Origins; the mere fact it has the returning option is a plus, familiarity is nice in those outnumbered combat situations. But the water traversal itself is nothing short of gorgeous.

My biggest complaint? Towns should be made to be fast traveled to. Major towns and cities on islands should have an option to be returned to with a button press. It was present in Origins and ripped from Odyssey for...what? Perhaps the Exploration Mode? I still feel it would round out the travel between points and having to rely on Viewpoints for your back and forth between the world.

The game has received an 9 because there are things that irk me with it; it diminishes a point for making me yell at some of the minutia of complaints I have. But it also gets a 9 because I am having immense amounts of fun. And that is what matters.

If you read this in full, I thank you and happy gaming.

The added story branching option and the diolog option is a great addition to the Assassin’s Creed Francise since this could make me as player be more involve in the story and the character. Some player might find the giant open world is a not so fitting setting to set an Assassin’s Creed story since it can make the player to be seperated from the story from the sheer ammount of time that the world exploration will take to do. The RPG element is good since it is develop together with AC: Origins. The multiple ending is also a good addition because it make the choice that the player have to be more important than normal story branching element.

The reason i did not give this game a full 10/10 is because althought the modern day story line is connected to the Assassin's Creed Lore the actual animus part of story element althought interesting it is not connected enough even if the is some connection to the Assassin's Creed Lore as a whole.

Overall the experience of playing this new type of Assassin’s Creed is depend on each player but since i’m a fan of both exploration and Assassin’s Creed francise in general so i can make a good judgment that this game is very good for those who already love the Assassin’s Creed Francise and for those who love exploration and branching story element.

Since this is not a true RPG some RPG player might not like it so much and for those who like linear story line more this game also might not be for you.

Then there's combat, surprisingly fun and visceral. Controls are the opposite of the clunkyness of RDR2. They feel natural, aiming with a bow is awesome (and doesn't stop after 2 seconds...really Rockstar?)

The Naval game is extremely fun and adds a lot to the game, as mercenaries and Cultists do.

This game would be absolutely perfect had the writing been better. Way too many uninspired fetch quests tarnish the main campaign, which is, in itself, quite ok if not excellent, and create unnecessary feel of repetition.

    ABSOLUTELY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

It's bigger and better than Origins in pretty much every way except imo the location isn't as nice but the graphics are far more polished. It looks incredible in 4k on the X and the story while far from perfect is still ok. It's probably an 8.5.

By far my favorite entry in the series. Origins was a huge improvement in gameplay mechanics but Odyssey's inclusion of dialogue options and choice of gender makes it feel like a true RPG. If they continue down this path, every AC game will be a must play for me.

For me personally, it's definitely worth my time and money. I've read complaints about the micro transactions and how Ubisoft "forces" players to spend real money on boosters. I've not spent a single extra dollar on micro transactions so far and I certainly do not feel as if I have to buy any of the xp/gold time-saver boosters in order to fully experience the game. The in-game micro transactions store doesn't offer anything apart from cosmetic items and time-savers, such as: maps that reveal special hidden chests/items (which without paying, the players have to find on their own, while exploring the gigantic open world) and XP/Gold boosters which do cut the time you need to spend actually playing the game you purchased... I sure don't feel as if I'm grinding - completing quests, exploring tombs, caves, underwater shipwrecks, temples and also fighting ship battles for resources is great fun. There's so much to do and the majority of the quests are not boring. All of them are fully voice acted. There are many different progression systems and customization options in the game. AC Odyssey slowly opens up, so if you play only the first 20 hours you would miss on so many new things.//The story is quite good and I was kinda amazed by how Ubisoft manged to explain lore-wise how at the very beginning the player has the option to choose between a male and female character. I still have to finish AC Odyssey and I probably have another 50 hours left.

If you haven't tried the game, then I highly recommend it. It's definitely worth the 60 $

The story starts out great but peters of toward the end, including the extremely odd decision to make a massively important part to the main, overall story, a bloody side quest half way through the game. It makes absolutely no sense at all to me, especially for a series that desperately needs to find a way to bring the modern day elements that the series has been known for, and is the main plot point that is similar amongst all of the games, to a better spot. There are a ton of good things to go with this game, especially for anyone who played Witcher 3. Mostly because the good things from that game translate over here. The world is absolutely huge and there's tons to do with the Cultists side quest to the Mercenaries stuff here. And I enjoyed the combat system, which has improved upon the Origins massive changes to the series. It's a shame that all of the best stuff at the end of the game requires massive grinding because the main story won't get you to the point where you need to be at for, arguably, the more important things that come after the lackluster ending to that. AC really has developed an identity crisis with these last two games. Especially with this one as there's almost nothing here that relates back to the previous games. With the announcement that there won't be a game in '19 and the next installment will come in 2020, Ubisoft has alot of decisions to make regarding the future of the series. If they continue going down the route they have been with the previous installments, they need to make decisions on how to continue with the series, especially with the modern day elements of the series and whether to even keep them in the game. I'd say that it's time to get rid of it and focus entirely on each games individual setting and how that fits into the overall world. I don't know if I'd recommend this to series veterans looking for a return to form after the big change that Origins was. This game is almost geared more for the series newcomers who don't know much about the long history of the games. Expand

On a regular basis, around twice or more per hour, when you talk to an NPC, you or the character will interrupt each other mid-sentence and say lines on top of each other. It’s annoying. [...] But that's hardly a complaint.

I am willing to forgive [the microtransaction for EXP & money] because it was on me to make that choice in the end. I could have bucked up and cleared out every single icon on the map to take the game nice and slow. But, be that as it may, I cannot stop playing this game.

An element of choice and consequence has been incorporated into the narrative allowing players to influence the story with their decisions. It's not as deep as something you'd get from BioWare on this front when it comes to being able to constantly define your male or female character's personality or radically change where a quest will take you, but you're given the ability to impact key events in meaningful ways and put your own personal touch on the journey.

This is a lot like Skyrim in that no matter where you go you'll always find something to do. The entire picture of what the main storyline is presenting is spread across three separate questlines, and that's in addition to the variety of side-stories and locations with their own checklist of objectives to complete that you'll encounter. There's a hierarchy of mercenaries you can climb through the ranks of, a secret web of cultists to uncover, and an entire ship with a crew to upgrade and collect resources for. There's a lot of flexibility in all of this too, like how you can stay on top of your gear either by upgrading your favorite pieces or ignore that option entirely in favor of just picking the next best choice out of the constant stream of newly acquired loot, and play in the immersive "Exploration mode" which removes waypoints forcing you to really pay attention to directions given by the NPCs. It's amazing how well all of these systems and really everything Odyssey does comes together. Everything except for the graphics that is...

This is far from the prettiest game on the market. That's somewhat understandable given what a MASSIVE world with an increased amount of foliage compared to the deserts of Egypt it's rendering, but it's disappointing how I was never able to be blown away by these sprawling wildernesses due to it all looking like it was made out of clay. I do have some other, more minor complaints. Such as how the romance options are almost exclusively women, uncomfortably playing into that old stereotype of all gamers being either straight dudes or lesbians and severely limiting the choices for gay men and hetero females. The biggest though has got to be the modern day portion of the series. On top of still finding the new characters unlikable, I continue to have no idea what Ubisoft is even doing with it since they killed off Desmond in III and very little actually happens in this entry at all. It looks as though the Fate of Atlantis DLC provides some much needed direction going forward on this front, but given that I couldn't bring myself to make it through the free chapter of it they were nice enough to give away it remains an aspect of the brand they could abandon altogether and I wouldn't care.

The ancient Greece segments which make up the vast majority of the experience however are fantastic. There might not be any mention of the assassin's or templars that along with the inclusion of mythological creatures has begun to make the overall AC lore kind of murky, yet I appreciate the route the property is taking from a gameplay perspective. So much content is here that even after 50+ hours of play there were still areas of the map I hadn't visited, and all of it is varied and interesting enough to justify doing for the many hours it will keep you busy. It makes for an epic adventure that I would genuinely say is one of the best RPGs I've ever played and easily my new favorite Assassin's Creed.

Back in 2007 when I first played Assassins Creed I was drawn to the interesting world but was quickly bored with the lack of unique things to do in the game. Now 11 years later that problem is gone.

I am about 37 hours into the game at this point and have not finished it but I cannot put it down. Assassin Creed Odyssey is not perfect in anyway but that’s almost what I like about it. I think of Odyssey like a Jack-of-all-Trades, but a master of none. It’s not the best RPG, it doesn’t have the best stealth, or even good combat. Its story is rather simple and there are only a few characters really worth mentioning. But I like that it has all of these elements and that they work well together.

I do really enjoy the game so far and I plan on getting the platinum trophy on the PS4. That’s a claim for only a few games I own. Assassins Creed Odyssey is really fun to play. And I really love that it gave me a new curse word. Malaka, which I guess, is like calling someone an **** But hell, I will always give a game bonus points for teaching me a new way to curse.

Now there is a pretty big issue I have with Assassins Creed Odyssey. As the name implies the game is about assassinations and stealth. Odyssey has 3 types of combat that break down to melee, bow, and assassinations. Melee and bow are pretty straightforward. They are not that elegant but you can mix the two together to make combat interesting and dynamic.

However, assassinations are a bit lackluster. There are only a few ways to assassinate someone and that is by sneaking up behind them, jumping down from above, or using an assassin’s ability. This can feel a bit repetitive which sucks because it’s really the best way to kill people in the game. Assassinations do so much damage that you can’t avoid it. That brings me to stealth because that is even worse.

The stealth in Assassins Creed Odyssey is literally just crouching in bushes. To become invisible you just crouch. The only additional option that you really have to mix it up is to hide in bushes. Hiding in the bushes make you completely invisible some times even to touch by the enemy. I wish they had added some variety to it like peeking around corners, pulling enemies from windows, etc. Because stealth and assassinations are so strong and easy I find myself just running around crouch stabbing people from enemy to enemy. This quickly feels like I am cheating the game a bit because it’s so simple and powerful.

If you get caught and break stealth then all you really need to do is run away. It’s that simple no matter what happens you can always run away and then re-stealth. There is one exception I found while in a Fort. If found, one of the enemies can light a signal fire which signals other soldiers and that can make it tricky to continue. I actually like this mechanic because it encourages true stealth and not gaming the system. I wish the transition from stealth to combat were harder to disengage. This would make getting caught more dramatic and dangerous.

My last gripe before I move onto a few more things I really like about he game is the climbing. All Assassins Creed games have this problem and I cannot believe it’s still the same old song and dance. The climbing is sporadic and hard to control. I tried to climb into a window for 2 minutes because Alexios (the male main character) kept jumping past it, then aside it, then back over it again. Alexios also will try and climb things while in combat when I didn’t mean it to happen. Yea, I probably suck but this should be a non-issue by now. This series has been out for 11 years!

That being said I really do love this game. The world is vast and the quests are plentiful. It never seems to get too repetitive either. There is just enough story mixed into the side quests to keep me interested without feeling bogged down with information and the progression system keeps me coming back for more. I want to complete some quest I just picked up because it will give me a piece of gear that I want; Or maybe it will put me over the edge in experience so I can get a new ability.

Story is "present", but difficult to follow at times. At a certain point it just stops altogether and forces you to grind out side missions before you can continue the main game (gotta drive you into that in game store for XP boosters!). The AC story is so convoluted and confusing at this point, I'm not even sure Ubisoft knows what's going on anymore. Something about Atlantis I think.

The typical PC nonsense that Ubisoft is quickly becoming know for is present here but thankfully secondary to the actual game.

Massive open world that will keep completionists busy for a long time and good combat. Your mileage may vary with the story.

I like how you have the choice between 2 characters & to be guided or to explore and discover the world around you. The weapons are, for me at least, hard to work with as I have to keep going back and forth between weaponry to deal the most amount of damage.

The game can be hard at times, even on easy, just because you have got some weapons and the way that the WARRIOR, ASSASSIN & HUNTER damage is managed is not properly explained. Just because a piece of armour protects you better does not mean it is the best for your character.
The armour does not match some times and you have a sword that may do 80 damage and one that does 75 damage, but the 75 damage is the one that is better. Some of it makes less sense but the gameplay is good once that issue is looked past.

Overall I'd say the game is worth paying for, even if you didn't really like Origins which I didn't. The setting is also abit more lively than AC:Origins.

In my 180 hour (thus far) playthrough as Kassandra with a heavy stealth build, I’ve laughed, rolled my eyes, wondered what brilliant mind comes up with some of these things, and I’ve even cried (once). I’ve regretted some of my decisions and been pleased with others.

As a prequel to the story of the Assassins and the Templars, there is quite a bit of tantalizing information to explore with regards to the Isu/First Civ and Pieces of Eden. The modern day component of the story, while brief, is very compelling.

This is the best game that I’ve played since “The Witcher 3.” I’m taking a full point off of what I would otherwise consider a 10/10 game for the forced enemy level scaling. We should be able to choose to turn it off, if we’re so inclined.

Moving on to core game play, combat is fun while requiring a bit of learning to fully get the hang of it. Sailing, while sometimes tedious can be fun once your ship is upgraded, but luckily is used sparingly throughout the story. The story itself isn't incredible, but still interesting enough to keep me interested and involved. And the voice acting, while on average good, can get to points of being downright horrible, but these moments are few and far between. The two protagonists you can choose from, Alexios and Kassandra, both have the same story, but it seems Kassandra is better acted than Alexios, from the two playthroughs I have made. The gear system is an improvement over that of Origins, giving you full control on how you want t build your character, along with the skill trees. The trees are also much simpler compared to Origins, but only allows you to have so many skills at one time. So while Origins was more complex, you would make more use of all of the skills in that game unlike Odyssey. The world that the game sets you in, Ancient Greece in 431 BC is very in depth and fully realized maintaining a historical accuracy. In conclusion, the game is fun and enjoyable with the introduction of complete RPG options and makes it one of my favorite games of the year. Expand

The story is nice, not one that will leave an impact, but a few tears were shed. I heavily disliked the mercenary system. I would find myself with a bounty and be attacked when I'm trying to do something. Very annoying. However, the best thing about the game is the choices you make and the free content coming. I also think the DLC will be good, considering origins. Expand

It's assassins creed so basically it's the same as every other assassins creed game that's gone before with the added thrill of ship combat. Hand to hand combat is still meh but ship combat actually gives you a challenge and this is probably the best part of game, as you would expect the map is stunning, if you ever wanted to visit Greece then this is for you.

The World is absolutely breathtaking sometimes! The Synchronization Points offer great views!Graphically the Game also is awesome! The World might be huge and beautiful at times, it is empty, really empty. Some quests begin on one side of the Map, and actually are on the other side.
The Story itself is good. You follow in the steps of your parents and you discover a secret cult and anyy other things. But you just have to level up your character really really often, which is a HUGE Grind in a SOLO Game. Yet you can skip it, only for Money.
The Combat was a thing i loved in Odyssey. While it felt strange being a Spartan without a shield, it was bombastic and fun!
The Quests were alright. Some would start on one end of the map and lead you to another. And almost always after visiting Athens, you are told to level up your character to progress in the story. Thankfully, most of the Side Quests were pretty fun.
The Characters you meet are awesome too, they have got decent voice actors and really great Backstories.

    Verdict:
    In Overall, an 8/10.
While being a huge grind once you progress and having a beautiful, yet empty and way too big open World, the Combat, The Graphics and the Story are awesome!
I would consider Origins better than this, yet only slightly.

Odyssey's greatest strength is its world, an evolving encapsulation of unique characters, interconnected and branching stories, and locations that are just too beautiful too ignore. The immersion has never been on such grand a scale as it is here.

While the grind to achieve your own godhood can be a tedious affair, it's in this grind that helps prevail an overbearing sense of achievement and fulfillment; physically earning your place amongst the echelons of gods and men, while graciously earning just rewards to help tip the fight ever more in your favor.

Perhaps the series' biggest advancement is the branching narrative; either as Kassandra or Alexios, the story plays to the beat of several emotional moments, centered around family and destiny and finding one's place amongst a world full of gods and monsters. From beautiful beginning to absolutely stunning end (all DLC included), the aptly named Odyssey delivers one of the series most well-rounded stories to date.

The few smudges that tarnish an otherwise beautiful presentation are present in most dialogue sequences, where lip synching isn't quite right and character models can often recycle after awhile, albeit with new hair and clothes. Most dialogue sequences also have a tendency to feel static, a painful reminder of early Mass Effect days where models talk but don't engage as much.

By this I mean that Ubisoft tend to put out games that are just good. Not great, not game changing, not that memorable but consistently "good". I'm not saying that AC:O isn't a good game, i just put around 80hrs into it during lockdown but I will say that now I'm done I can't really think of any standout moment but I just mindless spent 80 hrs roaming the map and killing things and generally being an overpowered demi-god and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

The greatest strength of AC:O is easy to figure out; it is absolutely huge. The game world itself is absolutely sprawling and even though there are parts of the map where you'll likely die the second you try to fight something there until the end game, none of it is locked away from the beginning. You can travel to your hearts content you just will get slaughtered if you travel to the wrong bit too early. But besides that there is just so much to do. Sidequests must number in the hundreds, the main quest itself must be around 30 or 40 hours of gameplay. This is before we then delve into the newly added Mercenary ladder you can climb, the gladiator arena you can conquer, the mythical beasts you can slay, the legendary animals you can hunt, the huge network of cultists you can track down and assassinate across the map. There is a ton to do in the base game alone. I have recently only reached the point where I can start the DLC and I've put 80 hours into this game, its probably my most played game of the year.

But here lies my problem with AC:O and indeed most Ubisoft games. There is a ton to do, most of it is decent but none of it spectacular. The combat system is solid and fun enough to keep you playing but fighting really boils down to figuring out which skill takes out the most health, using that skill and then waiting for the cooldown to expire to use it again. The bigger bosses of the game do require some strategy yes but this certainly isn't Dark Souls. The amount of quest content is ridiculous but unlike The Witcher 3 where the content was huge and almost all of it interesting and unique you never really get that feeling in AC:O. It's just another chore to undertake in the name of grinding out XP to unlock another skill. It gets repetitive. It is fun but it certainly gets repetitive.

My main gripe with the game is that there is plenty to see and do but none of it is particularly enthralling to do. The story included. In fact I had more fun just roaming the lands than I ever did advancing the story. Characters were annoying and hard to connect to on any personal level. When main characters in this story died I genuinely could not have cared less. During one scene obviously intended to have emotional weight I was skim reading the subtitles and skipping dialogue. Thats a bad sign for your games story when the player is doing that.

So the story isn't the best but the open world roaming is fun. There is plenty to explore and do. You can happily spend hours bouncing from fort to fort, killing and maiming everyone you face in a sort of mildly challenging and mildly fun manner. The world for the most part looks very pretty and there is a ton of verticality in the map which comes in handy since by far the most fun thing to do in the game is to throw people from great heights to kill them. It basically never gets old and the more important the enemy the funnier it gets. I killed the head a cult branch who the game bigs up as some scary warrior by running up and simply booting them off a cliff they were looking out from and watching them ragdoll hilariously hundreds of feet to their death.

I think ultimately the game is fun but it feels oversaturated. You will pick up literally hundreds of different weapons (there are some 7 or 8 different classes of weapon), bows, helmets and all other armor. They all sort of become blurred together because until the end game you just equip the one with the biggest number and during the endgame you will have one legendary set you never take off. There are a few different enemy types but really its just button mashing and the same skill moves over and over.

It is, in the end, one big, huge grindfest and if you're into that, as I am, then you'll pass the time quite pleasantly. But honestly I often sit there literally whilst playing AC:O and think "I should play something better" but I never quite do. You sit there and sort of settle into this rhythm of "this is pretty good". Thats the problem though its a good one to have, everything is just mundanely decent. The best open world games do what AC:O does but better, when I'm playing RDR2 or Witcher 3 I'm consistently having a lot of fun. When I'm playing this it just feels good fun but shallow. It is by no means a bad game but there certainly are better open worlds to explore out there.

    - The story was good until the very end which was disappointing for me.
    - The concept for the Nation Powers and Conquest battles is great. There's only a huge flaw in conquest battles. In every RPG I always play the sneaky-type characters (and this game is ASSASSINS Creed so you're kinda supposed to..) but upon entering the conquest battle you're immediately forced into combat. This means you're unable to sneak or use majority of your assassin abilities leaving the whole assassin build unviable for these big battles.

Although there are new RPG elements that will likely turn many off from it, they aren't overly prevalent. I've made several decisions so far, and it's interesting to see how these play out. The grind some are describing really hasn't been an issue. I've leveled naturally just by going around and doing things. The graphics are beautiful, and the only complaint I have about them is that they aren't as polished as Red Dead. Microtransaactions in this game are very prevalent, and incredibly irritating. The massive amount of content for sale after already buying the full priced game is very frustrating. Right now, I'm not letting this affect my score, because I believe more in rating the game as it is. Even without the any DLC, there's an insane amount of content in this game, and many hours will be spend before even half of the map has been reached! It's awesome when explore your first cave or underwater location, but when you do that for 10th time, with minor differences, that's when the game starts to get boring: the missions are to repetitive and the main story is really out of focus. It's a great disrespect with the player that you need to buy a package to advance faster. Expand

Odyssey is the best Assassin's Creed Game. and One of the best games ever. 10/10 absolutely amazing, stunning and extremely fun. I've played it all with the DLC twice and I'm going to do it for a third time now. From the different and challenging gameplay, armor and weapons types and looks, leveling system, Ikaros Eagle vision and highlighting enemies and items, ability to change how yourOdyssey is the best Assassin's Creed Game. and One of the best games ever. 10/10 absolutely amazing, stunning and extremely fun. From the different and challenging gameplay, armor and weapons types and looks, leveling system, Ikaros Eagle vision and highlighting enemies and items, ability to change how your armor and weapons look without changing the actual armor and weapons, the many awesome and unique abilities and their upgrades especially the no fall damage, bounty hunters, the breathtaking world, side missions, interesting characters, the gripping story and the amazing score, it's all absolutely fantastic and very well done. This game is the perfect Assassin's Creed game out of Origins and Valhalla, it has everything you want, it's in the middle so it's very developed and not the first new AC game like origins and it didn't have great features removed and bad features added in like Valhalla. I would absolutely love something like Odyssey 2 or a game like it with those features and stuff I mentioned, those are the things that make it one of the best games ever. Expand

The old Assassin's Creed are dead, put it on your head.
This title is an excellent Action / Adventure / Rpg game. It has a fantastic huge map, perhaps for someone even too large, a good gamplay and a stunning graphics. The characters are varied and well characterized. The addition of multiple choices in dialogue and story are very welcome. The plot is good, the sidequests are varied and

The best AC yet, with finessed game design, gorgeous visuals and great narrative. [Christmas 2018, p.79]

It was yet another good game from Ubisoft and I always like to be an Assassin again. I look forward to seeing if the next Assassin’s Creed game will be just as big as Odyssey, although not too big please.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is plenty of fun, and it’s a solid turnaround for the franchise. The future of the franchise is bright.
