    First of all the things I like about the game where the graphics, new dialogue options, the stealth was good and the Greece setting but unfortunately everything else about the game I hated, going from Origins to Odyssey felt like a huge downgrade in terms of combat, progression, the way the abilities worked, how the the map was and the new bounties was annoying.     If my grade is that low, it is because the game really deserves it. And God knows how much I have loved Assassin's Creed in the past : I really liked the philosophical background (freedom versus order) and how the story telling successfully managed to merge with History.

    But this game retains so little of it. There are beautiful places to visit (Athens, the Parthenon and its Athena statues for example), but damn it is so shallow ! Most of the universe is filled with random crap and places (bandit camps, caves, useless forts, and what not) that are really tedious to visit, not to mention explore.

    And to me, it is not even an AC game anymore. This game pretends to be fun by reneging on the premises of the franchise but has just lost itself on its way. What the heck Ubisoft, what have you done of the series !!! Where is the parkour ? More importantly : where are the Assassins to even begin with? Oh yes, I forgot... in a DLC as uninteresting as it is useless, of course !
    Back to the main game : the main quest(s) are boring and you can really tell how uninspired the writers have been. They send you from places to places with very little to justify your journey, and there are loads of uninteresting tasks (I would say downright fedex) and that is NOT acceptable in the main path. Damn, at this point, you should make your game shorter, but actually good, because as it is, it is the complete opposite.

    The map is huge, that is a fact. It is also a chore to explore. I am halfway through the game, and I am sad to say I will not finish it. I strongly regret my purchase and urge Ubisoft to look back on what makes a (good) AC game.    … Expand

    Hélas, mille fois hélas ! ce monde immense est surtout et avant tout une gigantesque, une putain d’énorme machine, une saloperie d’usine à grinder et farmer… c’est-à-dire à limer les mêmes conneries jusqu’à l’intox et jusqu’à ce que l’ennui nous sépare… Le précédent en Egypte était déjà très répétitif et rempli de merdes à n’en plus finir mais ici, c’est pire, bien pire ! c’est en fait leHélas, mille fois hélas ! ce monde immense est surtout et avant tout une gigantesque, une putain d’énorme machine, une saloperie d’usine à grinder et farmer… c’est-à-dire à limer les mêmes conneries jusqu’à l’intox et jusqu’à ce que l’ennui nous sépare… Le précédent en Egypte était déjà très répétitif et rempli de merdes à n’en plus finir mais ici, c’est pire, bien pire ! c’est en fait le pire du pire de ce qu’on attendait au pire… mais en pire. Une purge de « mmo » en mode fermier solitaire coréen à en crever la gueule ouverte sur son clavier ou sa manette.

    L’infiltration est devenue le parent pauvre de ce nouvel épisode… elle s’avère fortement dégradée par le fait qu’on n’a la plupart du temps pas assez de puissance d’assassinat (!?)… pour assassiner tranquillement comme dans les Assassin’s Creed de jadis quand on se faufilait jusqu’à la cible… Ici, les niveaux requis dictent tout, y compris le farmage exigé pour les atteindre : trop souvent, on ne peut même pas assassiner un ennemi du même niveau que le sien, car il a une icône jaune… il est « élite » » ce bâtard… donc faut lui farmer des coups dans la tronche à n’en plus finir !

    Heureusement, tout de même, des compétences dédiées et des équipements adhoc permettent (quand même) de monter les stats d’assassinat et une fois qu’on a pigé ce qu’il faut choisir et optimiser, on peut nettoyer le tout-venant furtivement et très efficacement, ma foi.

    Mais tout finit en combat(s) dans AC Odyssey… toujours, sans arrêt sur des ennemis qui sont des sacrés sacs à points de vie et des éponges à coups d’épées, lames, haches, massues et tutti quanti. Heureusement (là encore) que le combat est à la fois riche et bien pensé parce que sinon, ce serait la catastrophe… Au fil des compétences martiales devéloppées, on se prend au jeu et on tabasse avec entrain tous les connards qui passent… et trépassent : on est une vraie machine à tuer dans cet AC !

    Pourquoi on fait tout ça, on ne sait plus trop, car l’écriture de la quête principale est très mauvaise et ridicule à la fois ; les quêtes secondaires ne font certainement pas mieux et se bornent à du fedex et de l’invariable nettoyage de camps… Et si rarement, dans quelques unes de ces quêtes, on peut -grande nouveauté chez Ubisoft- mal se comporter, cela reste rare et trop accessoire. Mais se battre ouvertement parce qu’on a pas été furtif dans un camp ou qu’on a buté des vilains en ville, entraîne des mercenaires à votre poursuite…

    Autre défaut qui les casse bien, c’est ces putains de points à escalader et synchroniser et qui servent de voyage rapide : il y en a bien trop à faire et en même temps, ils ne sont pas assez nombreux pour garantir une « mobilité » correcte dans le monde trop grand, car Ubisoft veut que vous bouffiez du km à pied ou à cheval jusqu’à n’en plus pouvoir… Ubichiotte veut que tu farmes, alors farme, mon gars !

    Bon, on peut jouer une héroïne et ça, c’est très bien. Elle est spartiate, c’est très bien aussi, si, si… Mais pourquoi elle ressemble à une nageuse de l’ex-RDA ? un dopage ambulant la « gonzesse »… La grâce d’un tank, le charisme d’une brutasse aux stéroïdes… Et si on peut coucher avec tout le monde ou presque (sauf les chèvres) on ne verra pas l’ombre d’un téton mais un fondu au noir… Coincés du fion, chez Ubicon !

    Et puis, et puis… tout de même, pourquoi tous ces gens de couleur dans ce jeu ? on est en Grèce ou en Egypte ? est-ce qu’on confond chez Ubidaube le teint hâlé du bronzage avec la peau noire des Africains ou celle un peu moins foncée des Pakistanais ? alors, si le prochain AC se passe chez les Vikings ou les Samouraïs, aura-t-on la diversité incorporée de force également ? (réponse dans AC Valhalla : oui, je confirme, l’Angleterre du Moyen Age est issue de la diversité aux trois quarts…!). Certes, je comprends l’agenda SJW d’Ubisoft mais merde quoi… la Grèce n’est pas en Afrique. Même avec les migrants… qui n’étaient pas là à l’époque, non, non.

    Cela étant, l’interface, la maniabilité et la technique sont très convaicantes (avec en 2021 un patch X|S qui est venu passer le jeu en 4K et en 60 im/s, impeccable) mais tout le reste franchement… j’espère que vous n’appelez pas « ça » un jeu de rôle !

    Néanmoins, le monde grec et ses îles (et ses combats navals amusants, quand même) reste très agréable à explorer et lorsqu’on a passé un cap c’est-à-dire qu’on a fait son deuil de tout ce que ces personnages navrants peuvent raconter ici et là, en zappant tous leurs dialogues aussi sec, on se fait une joie et un point d’honneur à rechercher et zigouiller les 22 membres de la secte de Kosmos…    … Expand

    The worst AC game in the series, It is a bad The Witcher 3 clone, which lacks Assassin's Creed as well. It is neither a decent rpg nor an AC game.

    Never touch this...it's not worth it!!!The game is extremely boring and totally based on stupid grind. YOU HAVE TO PAY TO GET BETTER OUTFIT ETC. It's Ubisoft........

Many of the classic AC things are missing: the hidden blades, becoming anonymous in crowds or on benches, no quick, attack from behind assassinations. No hiding in hay wagons (there aren’t any) or in leap of faith leaf/flower piles. By the way, Ubisoft, what’s theFirst - Beautiful scenery (as usual for UBISOFT). Problem is, that’s about it. Ubisoft have missed the AC mark with this one. Many of the classic AC things are missing: the hidden blades, becoming anonymous in crowds or on benches, no quick, attack from behind assassinations. No hiding in hay wagons (there aren’t any) or in leap of faith leaf/flower piles. By the way, Ubisoft, what’s the point of leap of faith soft landing areas, anyway? You put in a perk (Ability) that lets you jump off anything without getting hurt. Bows are pretty much useless in Odyssey - even on easy mode, it sometimes takes 10-15 fully-charged HEADSHOTS to take an enemy out. So don’t bother getting ther “special arrow” perks - they have no more power than the “standard” arrows you are supplied with at the start of the game. Also, what’s the point of leveling up in this version? You start out on an island with a very low level, but as you level up, the lower-level areas level up automatically so that the fight level is always the same. Finally, there is no real story in this AC release. It takes place in the era of the Peloponnesian War - a war that Athens lost; so why does this game not follow history and have the game’s protagonist aid Sparta in defeating Athens instead of leaving history up to the player? Are we teaching revisionist history here? If you are supposed to choose a side (Athens or Sparta), why are you allowed to attack both factions? Then there’s the “Cult”. Huh? Is this an attempt to put a bunch of bad guys in the game (as if there weren’t enough already: Commanders, Captains, Elite Soldiers, Hi-powered mercenaries, area Faction Leaders and Mythical Beasts). Life is complex enough without a game mimicking the same uncertainty. So we are left with a game where you go from area to area endlessly killing commanders, looting and finding clues to puzzle locations that send you off on more searches. But, when conditions are right (that is; you’ve killed & looted enough in one area, you get to take sides & fight in a battle royale. Many areas have lootable items stuck inside rocks, so they show up when using the finder pulse, but you can’t get to them. I’ve also seen more than one animal or human enemy stuck inside rock, too. In short, Ubisoft has created a beautiful, huge game that lacks two small things: a story line & decent fight physics. The game ends up feeling unfinished and poorly thought out - it feels like just a Ubisoft vehicle to let people run around and thoughtlessly kill things. No sense of a unified group fighting for a cause, just a lone wolf ruffian running around causing havoc. I’ve played every AC game in the series at least once and this one is a sad reflection of the others. Hopefully, Ubisoft will do better with the next one.… Expand

Listen, I played Castlevania: Symphony of the Night exploring the entire castle, getting all the equipment, all the HP UP and MP UP with most of the Heart Max up. Getting to a level that only the programmers knew to get to where your HP hits the quadruple digits to me is probably the biggest sense of accomplishment that I got out of the game. Then they put in a grind with the sole purpose to get you to pay to not play the game that you already paid for and are trying to play, it actually defeats the purpose of progression in a video game.

    The 4K graphics look good, but that still doesn't make the game feel any less dumb from the previous game. Also, you might have noticed that a whole bunch of Ubisoft games are starting to have the same formula. Recycled fetch quests, recycled extra objectives and very rarely; a recycled character. People are right to keep getting disappointed by this **** and I hope somehow they actually get such angry feedback it upsets their investors. So, in conclusion; don't fall for obvious traps like this in games anymore. They apparently want to exploit you so they can get more money out of you. Oh wait, the gameplay? What do you want? It plays almost identically to the last 2 Assassin's Creed games.    … Expand

    One of the worst ubi games i've played thus far. Odyssey is to Origins, what Rogue is to black flag. Just some after wank-spank with a $60 price tag. Instead of improving on the good mechanics, they've tweaked it, and it's complete ass. The games voice acting is terrible, and ubisoft still doesnt know how to properly make a human-head. The only thing that looked alright were the friggin'One of the worst ubi games i've played thus far. Odyssey is to Origins, what Rogue is to black flag.     The Game itself looks amazing and the Story is ok (nothing Crazy but ok so far) BUT this game has a price of 60$ or 120$ and they implemented a micotransaction System into the game AND made the game SO GRINDY that u have to pay to progress in a reasonable speed. Shame on u greedy E.. oh sry i mean Shame on u Ubisoft ffs!

    The worst, most pathetic excuse for an AC game I've seen. They should have just named it Combat Creed, since that's all you'll ever do in this game is fight, fight, fight. Ubi has removed most of the stealth components, so the game forces you into combat EVERYWHERE you go. There is no more "assassin" to this game, no thought process, no planning. Just run to your objective, fighting 50 wolves along the way, then enter COMBAT against your foes.     Most people think of an assassin as a silent killer. Most assassins don't lead armies, or even large bodies of men, because the role of an assassin is not to be the heavy from TF2. An assassin is a silent, stealthy killer, who strikes without even being seen.

    This is an RPG, a complete and awful RPG. If this was called "Ancient Greek Magical Unicorn RPG Simulator", I'd give it a straight 10. I mean, the only reason I'm not giving it a 0 is because of the clear ingenuity of Ubisoft to create a game that puts you severely out of pocket, then comes back around and actually makes your gameplay experience hell unless you pay more money. Now THAT'S a sneaky assassination of my hard earned cash.

    Ubisoft makes the same mistakes over and again - employing B-grade idiots who don't know games. They botched the Anno series. They botched the AC series. What's gonna go next. Now, Ubisoft's own fans are trembling, wondering where the next sneak attack comes from. Ah! I get it. That's the real meaning of ASSASSIN'S creed! You sneaky buggers, you just decided to deliver your punchline differently.

    Seriously, if you like RPG's you probably already blew like $5,000 on LOL, why spend more on a crappy AC rip-off? Give it up, half the AC gamers are casual, we don't want a grind, we don't want to play some role just so you get a feminist endorsement. History sucks, we get it, but what sucks even more is people like the PR department at Ubi deciding what version of history we get. Really? They market this as realistic? I had more fun reading my old grade 8 ancient history textbook.

    I own every AC game, invested much more into the DLC, love it. It was the reason I began parkour and I now enjoy it a lot. But if you want an RPG, just rename it ok, just don't screw the age-old fans. I'm not buying another AC game... period.

    And I'm not the only one. My review counts for nothing, Ubisoft is massive, multi billion, why would they care about my $60? I'll tell you why. Because I am just one of many. I Implore you, anyone who reads this, do not surrender a single cent to Ubi. Make them learn the hard way. They clearly haven't learned.

    But, at the end of the day, all the people who like RPG games are usually playing a ROLE playing game cause their OWN ROLE, AKA LIFE, is not interesting enough. So even though AC is dead to me, I still have a community and can live AC stunts out in real life. So screw you Ubisoft, I'm going outside. Great job, not only will I not spend money on AC, I've stoped buying your other games.

It is the worst experience I’ve ever had with an Assassin’s Creed game, having played almost every one of them since the beginning. They took all of the good elements from AC: Origins (which was actually a great and fun game) and threw them all in theThis game is awful. It is the worst experience I’ve ever had with an Assassin’s Creed game, having played almost every one of them since the beginning. They took all of the good elements from AC: Origins (which was actually a great and fun game) and threw them all in the trash. Ubisoft Quebec, which remains a stain on the Ubisoft brand and name, have tried to turn the AC franchise into an action RPG in the most superficial ways possible. They added dialogue options into Assassin’s Creed for the first time ever, not because it adds to the story and the franchise, but because almost every game nowadays has dialogue options so AC has to have it now too. They give you a preset character (either Alexis or Kassandra) who has their own character traits and morals that show up in mocaped cutscenes you can’t interact with, but at the same time give you the option to turn that character into a murderous psychopath who can kill entire villages of civilians and acts like a dick to everyone. There’s no feeling of immersion or relatability to this character since there really is no character, and they are completely susceptible to violent mood swings based entirely on your whim. The “story” is poorly written by AC standards, is horribly paced, ends abruptly and PALES in comparison to Origins. “Exploring” this vast open world becomes a chore when you realize almost every location in the game is just a bandit or soldier camp where the enemies will just attack you on sight. Sure, location variety was a problem in Origins, but they’ve doubled down on the lack of variety in this game. The cities and towns in this game are designed with no free running potential, so the parkour which has become a staple of this franchise is nearly absent. The visuals are somehow mostly worse than in Origins, a game two years older running on the same engine, with noticeable downgrades in lighting and fire effects, facial animations, and the environments in general. And the combat system is (in my opinion) the worst part of this game. They somehow managed to create a combat system that copies most of the mechanics from Origins but is objectively worse in every way. They completely removed the ability to use a shield, so if you liked that from Origins, it’s gone. The attacks in this game don’t feel or look nearly as weighty or have as much impact as they do in Origins. The cardinals sin though, and the thing that makes this combat system so bad, is that every single enemy is a damage sponge that can tank a ridiculous amount of hits before going down, just like in AC: Syndicate. Every enemy, from the big beefy hoplites with heavy shields and armor, to the archers and marksmen who are wearing no armor, all take a ridiculous amount of hits to kill, which turns the combat system (which should be this game’s biggest strength) into a tedious chore that you try to avoid at all costs. But it’s not like you can avoid it completely, since most enemies can’t even be killed with an assassination from stealth in one hit. Sure that was a problem with Origins too, but there are way more enemies that will survive a stealth assassination in this game than in Origins, which completely ruins the point of playing like an assassin, since trying to assassination an enemy will just have that enemy alerted to you and not dead, and then alert the other guards around you as well. Oh and you can also drive a boat I guess. I don’t know, that sort of seems like an after thought in this game, and is definitely not nearly as well done as the naval portion of Black Flag was. I passionately hate this game, and I will never be playing anything made by Ubisoft Quebec ever again.… Expand

    If you played the first Assassin's Creed game, you've played them all. Ubisoft are just simply texture swapping and pumping out the same freaking game each year. This one has cool graphics sure, but nothing more than that. Don't waste your money and time on this game

    The worst assassin ever. Don't buy this game never. Ubisoft just killed a great series. And will dancing on it. Maniacal donate and **** grinding 100+ hours. Ubisoft dead.

    I'm a big fan of the break from traditional assassin's creed games. I had a great time with Origins but I recognize it's not an amazing action rpg, it's just some good dumb fun. Odyssey takes the Origins formula and just adds tons of content for the sake of adding content. Odyssey has more naval battles, more mercenaries, more forts, more rpg dialogue trees, more bandit camps, more cities,I'm a big fan of the break from traditional assassin's creed games. All of these things get rather boring very quickly because it's a quanity over quality design which leaves everything feeling unfinished or hollow. The new gear and leveling system doesn't feel as rewarding as Origins. The combat is slightly more complex but the animations are choppy and only a few of the abilities really offer any meaningful damage. I played both games on Nightmare and Odyssey feels very grindy, I can never get ahead with gear, every encounter or fight is a grind. I'm 20hrs into this game and I just don't see myself finishing because the basic gameplay gets old fast and the grind for xp is just so obvious. I would love to see how my impression of the game changed if I had XP boosters but I'm not going to encourage ubi's disgusting microtractions. I think this game could have been better if the devs were just allowed to make a good game instead of making a game that encouraged people buy addictional content from the shop. The dialogue, characters, combat and stealth are ok, but something just feels off and I fairly confident the xp grind is the problem.… Expand

Could someone please explain to me why the game got such glowing reviews by the professionals because this game is a mess. The design and modeling of Greece looks fantastic but that's not surprising since they're using the same engine and design as AC Origins before it.     Combat is janky, frequently missing inputs or so laggy that dodging and parrying fails to properly register. The mercenary system is horrible, with bounty hunters often just showing up out of nowhere and able to track you with God-like omnipotence. There's practically no real need or emphasis on being a stealth Assassin in this ASSASSIN'S Creed game. Enemies can spawn under textures and still hit you. Movement is floaty and imprecise. Ship combat is the worst it's ever been. The further you get into the game, the more it turns into grind for the sake of grinding... you can't progress without doing hours upon hours of boring busywork (unless you're willing to open your wallet and throw out real money, which is what Ubisoft wants).

    The story is somewhat decent but horribly cliche and very predictable at times. The romance options feel absolutely shoe-horned in. Maybe they intended it to be this way but I could give less than a crap about either Athens OR Sparta -- they both come across as jerks who deserve to lose. The voice overs sound like bad imitation accents. Ubisoft had a great opportunity here to have the characters all actually voiced in Greek with the option for other language subs but, instead, we get guys who sound like they're trying too hard to sound like Greeks speaking English.

    Another tiresome checklist game by Ubisoft designed to sell you microtransactions.

This game took Origins' annoying "assassination doesn't actually assassinate" to a whole new level. You pretty much need to hold A for 90% of enemies in game. These teleporting ultra agro mercenaries are annoying, and the fact that killing regular in-game enemies sets them off makes for awful gameplay. I just had to redo an entire mission because at the very end of a fight at the end, a high level mercenary came and shot me with a fire arrow. I held B to put out the fire, but the button didn't work in time and I died right away. No checkpoint of any kind during that mission apparently.

    Main complaints I have (mostly compared to Origins):
    - The Assassin, Warrior, and Hunter damage mechanic is unnecessarily confusing;
    - Complete lack of stealth based game options (no poison darts, no flesh decay arrows, can't even one shot an enemy in the head with an arrow, and assassinations don't actually one-hit a lot of the enemies;
    - Skill tree is a massive step back on Origins (again, I want more stealth kill options);
    - The boar enemies are so unbelievably difficult for what they are.
    - The cutscenes are not great. Alexios looks confused all the time and the facial expressions look like they're glitched or something. Bayek cutscenes were way better. Why do Alexios' eyes need to move around the way they do? It's like a baby looking at a colourful object.
    - The mercenaries are way too aggressive and teleport way too fast, and they shouldn't be getting aggro'd because you beat enemies in an area (non Spartan or Athenians, literally just thugs).
    - The boat combat is annoying and often redundant. Two separate missions now, by the time I got to my boat to undock it, the Athenian or Spartan navy wiped out the enemy I was supposed to kill. Fine I guess, except those same navies make everything near impossible in the ocean without spending crazy money on upgrades.
    - Several loading screens, and they're long.
    - A fair amount of crashes.
    - Movement around the map is annoying and tedious at times. The horse does a full 180 at the slightest bump on a hill, climbing rocks is a glitch fest, or just very slow at best, and there are A LOT of rocks.
    - Really bad level design on some missions. I just wound up wiping out an entire fort, 7-8 elite enemies, a leader of an area, all because my objective (a door) was there. It cost me 2000 drachmae just to pay off the bounties I got during this fight. Update: Once again, I was tasked with multiple objectives within an enemy fort. This resulted in me wiping out the entire fort.
    - The fact braziers can get lit without you actually getting caught. Results in an endless stream of enemies and forces you to spend thousands on paying off mercenaries that teleport to you (unless you want to fight two mercenaries and an entire fort at once).
    - The choice system, though a nice add, is very unrefined and makes for weird unpredictable dialogue and in-game consequence.

    Main improvements:
    - Combat (mainly the blunts, spears, and daggers are usable now, dodging works better, enemy combos are less annoying);
    - Entire mercenary system is better minus the teleportation and unnecessary aggro;
    - Entire conquest/leader system is very fun;
    - Storyline itself is atypical of an AC game, but in a good way.

    Ultimately I would recommend this, but it's even further away from AC style games than Origins so don't expect a stealth driven experience. I thought Origins gear system, stealth combat, skill trees, and cutscenes were better. I doubt these opinions change so I'll leave this review up.

    On the game, so far it's a 4/10, mostly being faulted due to extremely frustrating mechanics that often break the game (teleporting aggressive mercenaries, unresponsive "hold button" controls. The storyline does tie into the Isu and Templar-ish storylines so it's not just a random Greek game as others have indicated. The AC game's lore has always involved Isu and artifacts. It's never been just a history stealth game, and if you like the series, you really should immerse yourself in the Isu storyline because it's a very cool concept on humanity's origins. It's a nice blend of sci-fi, and fantasy.

    Ultimately it's fun, but extremely frustrating at times, and it feels like this was not properly play-tested. I want my poison darts back, I want arrows that will actually kill basic enemies on headshots, and I want to just be able to regularly press A for a kill, not hold it. Half the time by the time it's done being held, the enemy is alerted and I'm dragged into a fight with 42 enemies    … Expand

    It was yet another good game from Ubisoft and I always like to be an Assassin again. I look forward to seeing if the next Assassin’s Creed game will be just as big as Odyssey, although not too big please.
