As someone who never played the original, I have been waiting for this remaster for quite some time. Is it a letdown? Not completely, but I must confess that I'm a little disappointed.

The story is mostly great throughout, but the first 5 hours of this game were a disappointing experience. I thought I fell into a plain scam. But as I have moved through this game it got more enjoyable.

The whole trading system and Homestead business are ambiguous and I did not use them at all. Even the weapons were complicated.

Innovative, but glitchy and distastefully remastered.

Pros: + Connor's story is great (as is the voice acting). The scope of it is breathtaking. My second favorite after Ezio. + Civil War setting is amazing. Both visually & historically. Also, side quests give a taste of the time period (the homestead missions are the best). + Aquila! I loved naval missions so much! That's a

+ Aquila! I loved naval missions so much! That's a proof-of-concept for Black Flag.
+ 60fps patch on Series X makes the game super fluid.

    Cons:
    - The new lightning in the Remaster makes cutscenes look ugly.
    - The game is still glitchy as hell. Which is sad and could have been easily fixed in the Remaster.
    - Climbing is not that fun. The cities here are flat. And trees running simply doesn't work good enough.
    - Getting 100% achievement is pretty boring and takes a lot of time.

This was my first time playing both AC3 and ACL even though I played every other AC game. So it was nice to finally finish all pre RPG AC games.

AC3 - Definitely the worst AC game ever made. I finally understood why this game got so much hate and well it was deserved. They have tried to implement so many new things after Ezio trilogy and somehow everything they did was terrible. Even

AC3 - Definitely the worst AC game ever made. I finally understood why this game got so much hate and well it was deserved. They have tried to implement so many new things after Ezio trilogy and somehow everything they did was terrible. Even remastering graphic made so many bugs. There are only 2 things I would consider good. First is Connor personality. I kinda like him as an assassin. Second thing is animations of settlers. Those are really good. Overall it is at most 5/10 game.

ACL - This is smaller game compared to main AC games but it is perfection. Not a single thing that would annoyed me. On the other hand some things I really love. For example having 3 personas is maybe the best idea they had. Also there is most beautiful loading screen in the entire series. Amazing game 10/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I wanted Assassin's Creed III Remastered to be a good port but it just isn't.

It feels like it was just ported from the last gen consoles with little to no improvements. I mean sure, it might run better, have HDR and maybe even look more polished, but it also has lots of glitches, lags at times and especially in winter, looks like the way it did in 2012. I have the original game on the Wii U (yes, I’m one of the few who still has a Wii U.) but it runs awfully on there so I’ve never placed more than 30 minutes on there. It’s a really bad choice that RT is running and climbing at the same time. Naturally you want to run everywhere (even if there’s a horse available because those can’t even go up a little rock) but you always go up a wall or tree unintentionally. This gets even more annoying when you’re trying to chase someone. You accidentally climb something that most of the time fails you the mission. Also for some reason you get desynchronized if you don’t skin animals. But why? Sure, the game gives you some explanation by saying that Connor skinned every animal he killed but it’s still pointless. Now let’s talk combat. It would be alright if it didn’t refuse to work sometimes. For those tougher enemies that can’t be counter-killed, why the hell does the game offer the option if it’s not gonna work anyway? You’re just gonna get more damage. Then the next issue is the following: There. Are. Too. Much. Redcoats. I can’t stress this enough. Everywhere you look there are loads of redcoats ready to kill you, and fast. Naval combat is the best in the game to be honest. There are few ship fights but those are way better than all of the fistfights combined. The finishers are weak mostly; Desmond has the best combat animations in my opinion. The story, however, is where the game shines. The story takes place from 1754 to 1782, when the British were occupying America, the 13 states that it was back then. You play the beginning of the story with a Templar who has a kid with a woman he’s barely met and you play the rest of the game with said kid who becomes an Assassin. True to other AC games, the story is long but great. They even speak Mohawk a lot which didn’t bother me at all because I had subtitles on, and it felt more natural to hear Native Americans speak their language instead of English. The present day story is pretty good as well, but the ending just feels wrong; like it feels like a poor excuse to kill off Desmond. In the present day scenes I had to reboot the game multiple times because a cutscene or an area just wouldn’t show up. I was very confused and looked up what to do and then I realized that the game is just poorly ported and some things weren’t there. So in conclusion: If you want an Assassin’s Creed game that takes place in 1754-1782, but don’t mind some glitches and difficulty, this is for you. If you don’t want to struggle but still would like to see the story, just watch the story on YouTube, believe me, you’re better off that way. Otherwise, find another game. I give Assassin’s Creed III Remastered a 6,5/10. It would’ve been higher if Ubisoft cared enough to actually port the game well. Those glitches, redcoats, and scenes not loading were a pain.

Assassin’s Creed III Remastered on Xbox One is a good game which is fun to play. The graphics may be significantly improved but this is essentially the same as it was seven years ago, albeit now up against much stronger competition. If you’ve never played it before, at £29.99, with all the DLC, it’s worth a look.

Overall, this remaster puts a nice coat of paint on a great experience and I'd recommend everyone, especially those who weren't so hot on it at release, give it a try to see how it's held up.

Assassin's Creed III Remastered brings noticeable improvements in visuals and overall environment quality to AC 3 and Liberation, especially for owners of an Xbox One X and an HDR-capable TV. The overall experience is still dragged down by some of the original games shortcomings, like a repetitive mission structure, but it might be a worthwhile dive in the past for Assassin's Creed fans.
