As someone who never played the original, I have been waiting for this remaster for quite some time. Is it a letdown? Not completely, but I must confess that I'm a little disappointed.

The story is mostly great throughout, but the first 5 hours of this game were a disappointing experience. I thought I fell into a plain scam. But as I have moved through this game it got more enjoyable.

The whole trading system and Homestead business are ambiguous and I did not use them at all. Even the weapons were complicated.

Unacceptable buggy mess. I would say Ubi should give people their money back but most likely the people playing it got it free with Odyssey SP. This game isn't worth free.

Playing this reminds me of how bad the original's story was, the horrifically designed, luck based optional objectives and ridiculous climbing mechanism. Looking past all that this game is still even worse. A remaster always includes a graphics upgrade and this game does have better graphics. I can tell because many times I got stuck in the scenery to the point where the only option was to restart. My enemies did as well. On more than one occasion I couldn't complete a mission because my target was inside a wall or someplace I couldn't get to. It is especially bad when it has to zoom in a while like when you're climbing.

With the remaster they also mentioned making some modern adjustments but I didn't notice anything new that wasn't broken. Missions, especially homestead, tend to not be removed from the screen when they are completed. On countless occasions I had a homestead mission objective on the screen that I completed and a completely unrelated mission's objectives added below it. Climbing is buggy as well. Many times I would climb to a point and then hit an invisible wall. Backing back down a little and moving up again resolved it in most cases but when you're in a hurry it was game breaking.

On top of this the QTEs don't register always. In several combat encounters it wouldn't put me into combat mode so I just stood there while people attacked me. This also happened in a legendary animal quest. The only way to recovery was to exit out.

The notifications (for convoy attacks and optional objectives) also seems buggy. In almost all cases I got the message that my convoy had been destroyed yet I never got the message it was being attacked.

Lastly the game crashes frequently when there is a lot going on, such as the big battles. Freezing game with the sound playing forces a restart from the last checkpoint. Given the optional objectives that require luck over skill this is just plain infuriating.

In summary, same iffy game story/mechanisms with more game-breaking bugs and graphical issues.

This version is a complete trash
There are so many problems. for example: Definite sound, problems in game physics and problems of optimality...
The game is only colored from blue to yellow
    It's not a remaster, it's a scam
This game is not worth 40$
According to Ubisoft's new policies, the company is trying to scam users instead of providing services.

Like how the hell did that game ever get released and how the hell is the remaster worse then the PS vita original? I finished the game expecting 5 people who just didn’t give a **** to be in the credits but 100’s of people worked on this game, 100’s of people spent years of their life creating AC liberation. Like **** me but I would never put that product on my resume, I would offer to pay Ubisoft just to not put my name in the bloody credits. I don’t even want to play Valhalla anymore, i don’t think I want to play video games anymore period. If anyone ever suffers from video games addiction then just have them do a 100% sync playthrough of AC Liberation and if they don’t blow their head off while listing to schizophrenic show tunes before the credits roll then they will be cured.

I’m going to go grow up now, maybe learn a trade and find a new hobby. Enjoy Valhalla everyone.

    P.S
If anyone from the AC Liberation dev team reads this....I don’t like you.

+ 60fps patch on Series X makes the game super fluid.

    Cons:
    - The new lightning in the Remaster makes cutscenes look ugly.
    - The game is still glitchy as hell. Which is sad and could have been easily fixed in the Remaster.
    - Climbing is not that fun. The cities here are flat. And trees running simply doesn't work good enough.
    - Getting 100% achievement is pretty boring and takes a lot of time.

Can't help but feel most of these reviews are just pre-existing hate for the game, rather than whether it objectively improved in terms of visuals and mechanics (... can't change the preexisting shorting comings of story, character, .. etc in a remaster of game that was never well received). While it hardly stands among the best remasters, its no where near as objectively worsening the game (... than it already did to itself in its original release) like the Ezio Collections (my gosh... that one NPC face from hell in the first opening scene with ezio and that gang, you all know what I'm talking about), but it did enhance the visuals noticeably and made some minor tweaks to gameplay: my god, the expansion in the crafting system definitely a welcome addition. Then little subtle tweaks to certain stealth and combat mechanics that made it better.
Nothing groundbreaking, and doesn't change it from being the fundamentally mediocre game it was (Black Flag was the one to properly implement that innovative changes in the series more properly), but nevertheless, visually improved and a mildly/moderately smoother gameplay

.... otherwise its still one of (if not) the weakest games in the series....and we all know we're only tempted to go back to AC3 for the brutally satisfying Tomahawk combat lol.
Youre better off replaying Black Flag, if any AC's after Ezio (where the series went down hill after, Black Flag aside)

They have tried to implement so many new things after Ezio trilogy and somehow everything they did was terrible. Even remastering graphic made so many bugs. There are only 2 things I would consider good. First is Connor personality. I kinda like him as an assassin. Second thing is animations of settlers. Those are really good. Overall it is at most 5/10 game.

ACL - This is smaller game compared to main AC games but it is perfection. Not a single thing that would annoyed me. On the other hand some things I really love. For example having 3 personas is maybe the best idea they had. Also there is most beautiful loading screen in the entire series. Amazing game 10/10.

All of the cut scenes look like something fresh out of a PS2 game, the game is full of new glitches and bugs on top of the ones from the original game that Ubisoft didn't even bother to look into when remastering their game, and the games frame rate runs at almost the exact same as the original game. I was honestly very excited for this remaster because I was one of the few people that actually loved the 3rd entry to the Assassin's Creed series and I pre-ordered this game as soon as i could. But honestly after wasting 15+ hours just hoping that the remastered version of one of my favorite games would get better, I have simply come to the conclusion that this was a quick money scam by Ubisoft to try and get some suckers (myself included) to spend a buck on a game they used to love. If you're thinking about buying this game and haven't played it yet, don't bother. You will receive a lot more of a smooth playing and more visually pleasing experience by just playing the original version of this game on PS3 or Xbox 360. This "remaster" is an absolute joke. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I wanted Assassin's Creed III Remastered to be a good port but it just isn't.

It feels like it was just ported from the last gen consoles with little to no improvements. I mean sure, it might run better, have HDR and maybe even look more polished, but it also has lots of glitches, lags at times and especially in winter, looks like the way it did in 2012. I have the original game on the Wii U (yes, I’m one of the few who still has a Wii U.) but it runs awfully on there so I’ve never placed more than 30 minutes on there. It’s a really bad choice that RT is running and climbing at the same time. Naturally you want to run everywhere (even if there’s a horse available because those can’t even go up a little rock) but you always go up a wall or tree unintentionally. This gets even more annoying when you’re trying to chase someone. You accidentally climb something that most of the time fails you the mission. Also for some reason you get desynchronized if you don’t skin animals. But why? Sure, the game gives you some explanation by saying that Connor skinned every animal he killed but it’s still pointless. Now let’s talk combat. It would be alright if it didn’t refuse to work sometimes. For those tougher enemies that can’t be counter-killed, why the hell does the game offer the option if it’s not gonna work anyway? You’re just gonna get more damage. Then the next issue is the following: There. Are. Too. Much. Redcoats. I can’t stress this enough. Everywhere you look there are loads of redcoats ready to kill you, and fast. Naval combat is the best in the game to be honest. There are few ship fights but those are way better than all of the fistfights combined. The finishers are weak mostly; Desmond has the best combat animations in my opinion. The story, however, is where the game shines. The story takes place from 1754 to 1782, when the British were occupying America, the 13 states that it was back then. You play the beginning of the story with a Templar who has a kid with a woman he’s barely met and you play the rest of the game with said kid who becomes an Assassin. True to other AC games, the story is long but great. They even speak Mohawk a lot which didn’t bother me at all because I had subtitles on, and it felt more natural to hear Native Americans speak their language instead of English. The present day story is pretty good as well, but the ending just feels wrong; like it feels like a poor excuse to kill off Desmond. In the present day scenes I had to reboot the game multiple times because a cutscene or an area just wouldn’t show up. I was very confused and looked up what to do and then I realized that the game is just poorly ported and some things weren’t there. So in conclusion: If you want an Assassin’s Creed game that takes place in 1754-1782, but don’t mind some glitches and difficulty, this is for you. If you don’t want to struggle but still would like to see the story, just watch the story on YouTube, believe me, you’re better off that way. Otherwise, find another game. I give Assassin’s Creed III Remastered a 6,5/10. It would’ve been higher if Ubisoft cared enough to actually port the game well. Those glitches, redcoats, and scenes not loading were a pain.

Despite this game taking place in a very interesting era, I could not get into it. I'm not sure why, as I had an open mind coming into this game, but for some reason I put it down quickly. Perhaps it was the fact that it is in 3rd person, or maybe it is because the beginning was not particularly engaging to me. Regardless, it wasn't for me.

Assassin’s Creed III Remastered on Xbox One is a good game which is fun to play. The graphics may be significantly improved but this is essentially the same as it was seven years ago, albeit now up against much stronger competition. If you’ve never played it before, at £29.99, with all the DLC, it’s worth a look.

Assassin's Creed III Remastered brings noticeable improvements in visuals and overall environment quality to AC 3 and Liberation, especially for owners of an Xbox One X and an HDR-capable TV. The overall experience is still dragged down by some of the original games shortcomings, like a repetitive mission structure, but it might be a worthwhile dive in the past for Assassin's Creed fans.
