Anthem is a new and exciting world full of lore, monsters, and enemies you must overcome to keep the people in Fort Tarsis and the world safe. The story is engaging, and the character voice acting has some great moments. Combat is very fun and makes you feel like a total badass, ready to blow up your problems. Even with some of the issues in the game, Anthem has lots of room to grow. I love this game. I love the storytelling and the free roaming.
I was worried about all the 0-rating reviews but fortunately was only angry users with EA without any hours played in game.
There will be a lot of contents in the near future so I'll waiting for these ...

They also give you difficulty options that significantly change the experience and challenge of the game. If you want a game that doesn't reward skill and that becomes over run with unskilled players go play fortnite, COD, or any other FPS where the player base is predominantly teenagers and young children. I have been waiting for years for a game that actually feels challenging and really requires solid grinding. The play between classes truly feels different unlike other games that Anthem is being compared to. I remember being hyped for Destiny to be this amazing open world experience that had deep story telling, in general what I had come to expect from a Bungie game, only to be completely crushed by the empty lifeless shell that we got. With Anthem, all of the things that the devs promised they delivered on. This game isn't perfect, but I have NEVER seen a more responsive studio to the criticisms (so far, EA might end up killing this game) and they are attempting to correct the areas where there are issues. Ironically, a lot of the negative reviews are coming from Destiny fan boys, Destiny 1 and 2 are complete trash compared to what they promised to deliver on and I would never spend any money on another Destiny game. People that are complaining that Ft. Tarsis feel small or empty are obviously not paying attention to the lore of the game (a small hint is that Ft Tarsis isn't a major population hub in this world, it is a frontier outpost).

There is definitely some room for improvement and balance tweaks, but the game is not the horrible broken mess that people are making it out to be.

Bioware was ambitious and to me it paid off. There are a few issues I have ran into, but I love the gameplay and the story. It does need more content but it is definitely worth playing and supporting, so it will continue to be updated in the future.

While this may not be a traditional game by Bioware, the game in its own right is a fantastic looter shooter. Smooth controls, great movement system and teamwork is super fun. It's not perfect, but it's off to a great start.

Are the missions repetitive, yes. Is there depth to be found if you don't mind paying attention to conversations, yes. For me, the feeling that I got was Mass Effect Multiplayer. Now I know most of you are running for your down votes right now, in which case to hell with ya. But if you're like me and enjoyed Mass Effects 3 Multiplayer and want to see what it can do on a grand and beautiful scale, this game will be a lot of fun. Exploration shows these massive vaults and imposing locked doors, and I can't wait to see what these will be filled with in the coming months. The map is a good size, and I have no doubt that it will get bigger.
On the technical front: there are still some loading bugs, I had one just the other night. But as far as optimization goes, the game looks and run great on a base Xbox One. I have had very few loss of frames and even fewer graphical glitches. The controls are satisfying, the gun play is dynamic, and the world is just fun to be in. Give it an honest shot, be patient with it, and try the game without the urge to hate it and you may just enjoy yourself. There is no where near as many problems as is being depicted across the internet. So, watch a streamer, try a friend's copy, rent it, or other methods that you deem adequate. Just try it before you try to kill it.

Don't expect a rich story or deep characters, expect fun content and good visuals. My rating of a six is based largely on the fact that I found this game to be next to unplayable on Xbox One. But Anthem suffers from the same recent identity crisis that ME:A and DA2. In fact, the similarities are striking. Much like DA2, the story is on rails and lacks much of the emotional investment and expansive effects of you choices that players have come to expect from BioWare. Much like DA2, there are three major shifts in effect on your world to give the illusion that choice matters. Further, combat seems to be the major focus. But as you rise to Grandmaster leveled tasks, tedium takes over and mechanics dissolve as your enemies sponge your abilities. All this would make a title average and is mere commentary on the shift a once amazing studio. But what really kills Anthem is the lack of playability. Free play is hampered by your random placement in the world far from allies. The stat system is convoluted and adjustments to weapons seems to have minimal effects. Crafting is... why is there crafting? It’s useless as it is. And simply changing your load out to experiment to find the best combination of weapons and skills is an exercise in madness that takes an hour rather than a few minutes due to the need to leave the environment just to look at the drops you recieve. Thankfully, I didn’t see or experience the plethora of glitches day 1 players did. But 22 hours in, I’m honestly bored of doing the same “guard this” and “fetch that” actions over and over. In earnest, Anthem has the bones of a great BioWare game with the concept and design. But the desire to steal players away from games like Destiny and The Division forced BioWare away from where it shines. Gone are the characters we wish to spend more time with in dlc or over to hate for a grind that’s ultimately unfulfilling. Expand

I've enjoyed the game style. I feel that the story is lacking. Bioware has really declined in their writing. I feel like it's mostly because of EA forcing the rushed release. You can see by Bioware's development roadmap the game is probably only 1/4 of the way finished. Sad that publishers are ruining games. I'm giving it a 6/10 hoping that it gets better.

I have played through about half the main story and though a few extra expeditions. Probably a total of 10 hours. For the first seven hours I used the in-game match-making. Then I played a couple of expeditions with my son, then I ran a few solo. I have never encountered a single bug (I play on Xbox One). Never had my life mysteriously drained and never experienced any lag nor reduced frame-rate. I have no idea what all the complaining is about.

Finally, the load screens are no longer than Destiny.

The story is shallow feeling. If you are expecting an old-school Bioware game, look elsewhere. Bioware died before ME,A was released. For that kind of experience your should go play something from Obsidian or CD Projekt RED. Bioware is now a political soapbox for EA to stand on.

The game is fun, however. Don't judge it on your memories of what the studio used to be. Judge it on its entertainment value.

Here's why I gave it a 10: You on here giving it 0's to 4's need to be balanced out. The critic reviewers are far too harsh on it too. This is like the opposite of TLOUS for PS4's ratings, which were for over rated, this may be equally as under rated as that game is over rated. I know I went way off topic in the build up but here is my actual review: This game has some of the best fluid gameplay for an third person shooter, period. This is why I get so confused. The story is not terrible. Allow me to explain why this confuses me: Let's do the obvious comparison, Destiny 2. This game has as good of gameplay as you can get for a first person shooter, let's say we weight the game on: Gameplay combat. Story. End game content. Replay-ability. Gameplay set up mechanics and customization (so abilities, skills, guns, leveling routes, different than combat). Destiny 2 would be equal on story. I'm going to outright say it: They both aren't great on story. 7. Gameplay Anthem would be superior from my point of view, but let's use an average person and call them equal. 9, easily on both of these. End game content: It is over exaggerated how much this game is lacking in end game content. Destiny gets one raid per release and night strikes. You can consider Anthem's strongholds not quite a raid, but beyond a night strike from Destiny. Their legendary contracts are similar to your normal looter like Destiny. Their guns, while there are not as many, is for a reason. They have gun sub groups. I can't tell you how many times I got a useless weapon in Destiny, that existed as a form of having as many possibilities for the sake of it. Anthem is clearly geared toward each weapon having a purpose. There are less subsets. There are clearly more weapons in Destiny. I would say it falls behind but not by much, however, it makes up for this in terms of buffs on even your spells, and many different spells, which Destiny has next to zero options regarding, and I see them as therefore equal. Anthem is lacking in guns. Destiny is lacking in ability customization. Anthem's abilities are absolutely stellar. I cannot emphasize this enough. The way it feels when you create a build with the right weapons, and abilities, is awesome, and there are definitely bad builds for the sake of what you combined in a way you don't get with Destiny, as well as awesome super builds. In light of this, I would give both an 8 or 9 in terms of gameplay mechanics. Now, end game is where Anthem is slightly lacking, but I think it is greatly exaggerated because people were hoping Anthem would be an open world similar to an MMO. It is not. It is smaller than Destiny to some degree, but there are legendary contracts similar to night strikes and other content which I think only makes it slightly behind, and this is close to day one. Destiny was lacking to nearly the same degree. I think you can put this at a 6-7 for Anthem and Destiny at release. I would say more like a 7. Let's say Destiny 2 and Destiny are now an 9 in end game content, for what they are mind you, some people flat won't like the content and that is understandable, for what the game is, but you have to consider that when you write a review. You have to try and make it not really about your preference, as much as possible, and more about what the game is and how it pulls off what it is. Replay-ability therefore takes a slight ding, to say a 7, and I think Destiny 2 right now is probably an 8 and was a 7. This makes it though Destiny 2 presently: 9, 7, 8, 8, 8. Whereas some of those were a bit lower at release. So let's say 9, 7, 7, 7, 8. Anthem is definitely a 9, 7, 6-7, 6-7, and I would argue 9 due to the abilities, but some could say 8. To me this means Anthem plays about like a 7.5 to 8.0 game. Destiny 2 at launch was a 7.5 to 8.0 game. Mind you, you don't take all the scores I mentioned and divide to get an average on how the game feels. That simply doesn't work for games like this, though it ends up close to my final number as it is. I think Anthem makes up for a lot of it's flaws through amazing gameplay. I did simplify this a bit, and didn't even include enemy group types and AI. Destiny 2 and Anthem both have amazing enemy diversity and enemy AI, simply put, they set it up so using your abilities and guns feels good. Anthem it's a matter of how do I drain the shields, and how do I set up combos. This simply feels better than Destiny 2, as those combos then charge up your ultimate. There is more depth in team work as a result. The world is also beautiful, and I didn't include graphics as I don't care. The world is diverse as well, but I care more about gameplay. This game deserves an 7.5 to 8 Expand

The combat is lots of fun and really great and still made better, being a live service game they are improving it constantly server side and client side as well. Yes the game has some problems and bugs and the amount of loading screens is really bad (but improving all the time) but they fixed a lot of them already. There is no story tree you can just chose from two options I hope they enrich that and the facial animation is between oke and great depending on the npc and the writing leaves a bit to be desired so I really hope they put some more effort in that.

The road map looks promising and they seem to listen and communicate pretty good with the community.

The cut scenes are mind blowing and the open world is really really well made, it's really very beautifull, the flying is improved a lot since the VIP Demo. The combo's are fun and the shooting is really great and you really has to use some tactics and skill, sometimes there are to much effects on the screen so that you lose focus. The weapons could use some more difference between each other, but there are some really great sniper rifles.

I put a lot of hours into the game, the world and game play is really great so you just want to keep playing it.

If your game was good- it sold. None of this herd-mentality hatred of a company overshadowing the actual content.

Yet the entire industry is now governed by, what i have come to refer to as, the "self-entitled spoiled gamer". They are the ones who dont give a damn about any of that. And they're killing the industry.

They dont care that hundreds, or even thousands, of people have dedicated countless hours of their lives to developing a game.

They dont care that their unneccessarily harsh and cruel reviews will deter others from buying. Which, in turn, results in less sales.

Those less sales mean less revenue for the developer. This results in less risk taking for new ideas by investors and ultimately in unemployment of devs and closure of studios.

These are the same people who then complain about the industry being flooded with "clones" and lack of originality. They complain about game droughts, and 'big bads' like EA and Activision.

Ive got new for you keyboard critics- the problem is you. And you're everywhere. On social media, on website such as this, and even 'official reviewers' (looking at you IGN).

Anthem isn't a bad game. Contrary to many of what these reviewers will have you believe- its actually pretty fun. The visuals are breathtaking, and there are moments where i will just stop and admire the world. You wouldn't be forgiven for thinking it was a snippet from James Cameron's latest Avatar flick.

The gameplay is solid, and flying around in your javelin is everything i wanted after seeing the first ironman film.

Sure, it needs some work in certain areas (such as certain interfaces being unintuitive- i shouldn't need to google "how do i swap between weapons").

Overall a solid game, and i look forward to seeing how the game world evolves. At a minimum Anthem deserves a score in the high 70's.

Great game! Such enjoyable combat, great graphics and a really good story, despite what you read! The EA haters can't look past EA's bad history but this game is so so so much fun to play. Plus there is at least 30h of content and more to come soon.

I have experienced 30 hours of what Anthem has to offer, and decided to take the time to write this article despite the mostly negative press that the game has received thus far.

To begin with, the game is not perfect, as the notorious loading screens are common knowledge at this point. I will say that I play on an standard X Box One, and have not had any loading screens greater then 25 seconds, but I understand that others may have had different experiences. i will also say, that I was disappointed that a proper Bioware story, complete with decisions was not implemented into the game. I will also note that during the early access period I did run into a few bugs, but not enough to deter me from playing missions, strongholds, or freeplay.

That being said, much of what makes this game shine is often ignored. Many of the review sites fail to mention the how rewarding exploration is throughout the world of anthem. Every time I go out into freeplay, I find myself exploring a new area, hidden cavern, or just finding landscapes that makes it obvious that the developers showed this game love. I can say without reservation that with the mobility that the javelins offer, and verticality of Anthem's design allows a sense of liberation as you transverse the amazon like biome.

As stated earlier the story was not a traditional Bioware story, but the developers were also forthright about this factor. I will say that I disagree with the decision to tone down its own game DNA, as this factor could of made Anthem stand out when compared to other games in the looter shooter genre. The story was not as bad as many will have depicted however, and honestly I believe that the birth of the harsh criticism originates from the high expectations that were formulated through stories of games past. Though not directly associated to the story, the conversations between NPCs, in Fort Tarsis do help provide a foundation for the world of Anthem, but would of benefitted from more Bioware DNA within the environment.

This could not be called a Anthem review without mentioning the combat. I can say without reservation that this is the most addictive combat out of any looter shooter that I have ever experience. Combat makes you feel powerful, when you learn how to utilize the strengths of your javelin, and punishes you, if you play as if a firearm is your only choose of DPS. It forces you to utilize your mobility, and the primer and detonator system is something that I believe was executed well. It is worth noting however that gun design should have been conducted better in my opinion. Marksman rifles look a lot like assault rifles, and the variation between each weapon in that sub-type only differ in coloration.

So is Anthem good? Yes, I believe that it is a game that can easily be enjoyed, and is capable of being a game that many hours are spent on. I believe that theres so much potential for the future, but also many things that must be panned out. I will point out that it is disappointing that this IP has met with so much disdain this early in launch, especially since a lot of it is unwarranted to a degree. I know that reviews are mainly subjective, but this game is no way worst then Destiny 2, as I cannot even return to it after playing Anthem. The combat and world alone is enough to have you addicted. I know that my opinion is not the popular opinion as of now, but Anthem is an IP that I plan on sticking as it grows and evolves. I hope you find this review helpful.

Additionally, while there may be flaws some consider too much, the game has great potential. Some of these reviews giving 0 have no substance, and no real basis to throw such a terrible score. If someone reviews a game poorly with one sentence, you should ignore them. If you wont' review a game openly and with some substance, you shouldn't bother. The game is simply a lot of fun and great potential in the future just as Fallout 76 has. I reference that because both titles get a lot of the same hate. Players complaining about the story amaze me. At worst, you have to actually do that thing called reading. Remember RPG's back in the day? You read your story basically. Here you do have some NPC's to drive it, in addition to codex entries as with any Bioware title. Too much whining and I'm convinced its a generational issue.

Cons: Yes, you have load screens that can be annoying. Drifting too far away from your party also pings you to catch up and if you do not, then load screen. There is some repetition, but hello, it's still an RFP shooter. Grinding is normal.

The game is a blast, at least try it from a friends place, rent it, whatever. Just give it a shot. Bioware will build upon it, patch it etc. I'm tired of the "they released an unfinished game" rhetoric. Study into the business side. Games get larger and more complex all the time. All the testing in the world wont' rule some issues out, so yes, you have to be a test of sorts sometimes. Games have been $60 bucks for a long time, so quit crying about that. Pick a Javelin and suit up!

This game is only worthy of a 6/10 at the moment.

For most games that is okay and acceptable, but for a game that I had high anticipation for since its announcement last year, Anthem was disappointing due to terribly executed elements like lack of informational tooltips that explained some of the mechanics, such as retrieving your challenge rewards or how to perform combos, and a myriad of bugs that include incompletable missions, failed quick plays and very long loading screens. On top of this, EA's influence over this game is very obvious, with the nonchalant placements of purchasable, with real or in-game currency, cosmetic items, purchasable materials for craftables, and the in-game special item known as shards, which are normally obtained through special end-game missions and can be bought using real money.

In addition, sometimes the long-loading screen would not complete and stay on the loading screen.

This leads to a need to quit the game and restart the game. On top of these frustrations, successful quickplay missions since the update that rolled out recently (February 1 or 2), have introduced a new bug where it says that your internet connection has been interrupted or lost, resulting in an infinite "search for new host". This again, means that you have to close the game and start it again.

Moving into the game, the city Tarsis is gorgeous but left much more to be desired. It is free-roam but you are locked to the corridors and spaces that Anthem want you to be in. For example, navigating to your Anthem, you are locked to what could be an immensely immersive and astounding experience especially with the market stalls that are there. It's linear and after the first time going through, you'll quickly get tired of it, as your game will most likely have to restart and you'll load into the default location where you have to walk up a set of stairs and then down the linear path towards your Anthem. Although there are additional areas to explore, they are empty and lack any reason to be there at all.

I couldn't help but be nostalgic about Skyhold from Dragon Age: Inquisition. But through nostalgia, I realised that there is too much familiarity with past games within Anthem. Specifically, the special effects, the linearity and locked-to-a-certain-path environment, and some game play were heavily reminiscent of Inquisition. Especially with the Storm Javelin and its effects. There were times where the shooting felt like Mass Effect.

    They are recycled effects.

The in-game store is an ongoing problem as they will offer unique materials and animations which you can buy with coins. It appears that this changes the dynamic of the game and if you want a more unique Anthem, you are almost manipulated into buying packs or items that allow you to make it a little more unique. The loot is pretty locked and the weaponry is recycled items that just scale with your level and add a different special effect here and there.

    However.

You put all the bugs, all the disappointments, the annoying fact that you are left to figure things on your own, the lack of cosmetic upgrades and the annoying EA styled store, it is hard to absolutely hate the game, and you can't help but enjoy the game when it actually works.

The game play mechanics allow for a solid and exciting grounds for firefights, which happen every time there is an encounter on the hard difficulty. If you are to play this game, make sure you only play on Hard. Having to be wary of your health and shields while carefully strafing or flying away from the devastating burst of shots or hits on you during those firefights, adds an element that you won't get in the normal mode. However, I would recommend Normal mode when you're starting out and gearing up.

Flying around is one of the most fun I've had in a game. I think this mechanic is one of the few that Anthem got spot on. Being able to control the flight into a hover and being able to launch into flight at the top of a button is an amazing experience, one that I was looking for in a lot of the games that I've played that were a sci-fi style genre, such as Mass Effect.

Overall, the game has an abundance of issues, such as the obvious influence from EA over this game with the store, the somewhat poor likability of the NPC's due to dry conversations with little personality, and the lack of likability from the player character as well, and the almost-game-breaking bugs that have made me curse the companies involved with this game and that I can't believe I paid full price for this game. Put the negatives aside (again, a lot), when your game works as intended, you love every little bit of it as it gets almost every aspect right and you keep wanting to play and play...

Until the mission ends and a system message comes up that says your connection has been lost so it's helping you look for and migrate to a new host. And then you have to start everything again. And again.

    And again.

The core gameplay is fun, the story so far is interesting and I'm having a blast playing with my friends.

The game does have a few problems, primarily loading times and crashes, but I don't agree with others that loot is the problem, frankly I'm glad that picking up loot isn't front and centre while I'm mid-fight and can concentrate on the real at hand.

One thing I've noticed from people criticising the game on social media is that they've never actually played it, they are just echoing the sentiment from the reviews they've read - which quite frankly shock me that they're so low. What's going on with the reviewers to score it so low?

In short, ignore reviews and try the demo yourself before you form an opinion, you will be pleasantly surprised!

I think so people aren't accustomed to the way a lot of games are now. They still think it's all GTA 5 where you can go anywhere and there are random events everywhere. Nowadays you have a hub you go back to and get your missions, loot up, etc. Get used to it.

The Ranger class is dope, lots of heavy artillery. The story is actually somewhat engaging, although the NPC's are pretty flat. They prtend to talk and mouth words, but they don't say anything at all. No fake conversation, just silence. Occasionally some will have a pre-programmed dialogue. This is a stark contrast to Metro: Exodus, where every person has 5 minutes of dialogue you can listen to.

Overall I'm liking it a lot. Don't listen to the haters, find out for yourself. So far it's worth it.

The first one I tried was colossus and I just couldn't enjoy it, sadly.. I wish there were more support options and dodge options than just one for colossus.. the shield with B is kind of meh.. If you could make that do some kind of dodge instead.. like an offensive specialized colossus i'd find that a lot more fun.

That being said, the storm is very fun. I love raining down fire/ice/lightning from 30 feet above the battlefield.. it's just very fun.. again though I do wish there were more options for the support seals than just quickening field and that weird frontal shield thing.. but oh well..

some of the characters are pretty lame.. but some are very cool.. so it's fairly moot in that regard.. it's not perfect but it is really fun.. I would suggest this to just about anyone with the patience to deal with the slow pace of the fort tarsis stuff and the multiple load screens.. The game is very fun, once you find the right javelin for your playstyle.

Let's get started with my review. This is a good game that introduces some improvements over Destiny 2. It comes with an immersive story that add some depth to the game play. That said, the story doesn't have the depth we are used to see from Bioware. Graphics and game play itself are amazing on XBox One X. It runs 4K very smoothly and gives a great amount of depth of view when I am flying around in my javelin. Combat is somewhat tactic. So, you can't just storm into combat head-on. I also love the exploration aspect and believe that many reviewers don't understand free play missions very well. For me, exploring new areas without having a mission on hand feels very satisfying when you suddenly discover a new cave with some good loot in it.
I also love combat in this game. Similar to Destiny 2, you can create characters that excel in melee combat, ranged combat or a mix of both. So, you can customize and grow your character based on your personal preference.
Overall, this game is good and entertaining in its current state, but it has a lot of potential to get even better with future content upgrades. I know some people like to have "everything on day one", but I have played a bunch of games that were good on day one and then grew into a great game over time (The Division, Sea of Thieves, etc.). I mean isn't it better if a game gets continuously developed after it has been released instead of just releasing it and moving on?
Anyhow, if you haven't tried it yet, you should give it a chance and experience something new.

Does a game deserve a low score due to something that doesn't impact game play? Story is truly bioware, lots of good lore and cannon and building for the future.

I believe most of the bugs have been solved by now, so this game ends being really worth to try.

The only cons I found so far is the missions can really feel a bit repetitive. But will you tell me you don't find Division 2 at least a bit repetitive (It's the looting concept to be honest).

I will admit, even that gets a bit boring after a while. It does however feel great bursting in the with your suit and soaring over a beautiful landscape. I have read articles that hypothesize that during Anthem's development, part of the game was scrapped and re-worked. I don't know how true that is but it sure does feel like it. Anthem doesn't know whether it want's to give you a compelling narrative or immersive gameplay, and it ends up doing neither particularly well. Maybe if Bioware's name wasn't on it, Anthem would have done a lot better but I gotta be honest I expected WAY better than this from BioWare even after the Andromeda debacle. Though Anthem may be worth picking up in a year or two I cant really recommend it at this point. Right now it's just a reminder that the BioWare I knew and loved is far removed from it's legendary status. I hope I'm wrong. Expand

The bad: yes, load times, the funky first person / third person viewing from exploring to the fort, never really felt like I got into the NPC's. A few had neat stories but that was about it. Unlike other bioware games where you like them and want to get to know them. Main story way to short, seriously.

Anthem is a solid foundation. The gameplay is top notch and highly enjoyable and as you grow in power, you notice. Unlike other looters where you constantly get beat up regardless of how powerful you're supposed to be, anthem let's you actually be awesome. Top tier weapons feel that way, and after you hit over 600 power your going to notice.

Story is so-so, could be better, more interactive, and deeper, but once again feels like a solid foundation to build on. Not too fond of 90% of the lore being textual, but at least it's in the game. My only real complaint with this aspect is the lack of any meaningful character interaction in the end game. There's none. I don't even go to the fort anymore, just use the launch Bay, it's faster.

Graphics are amazing. I can't say anything negative here. Game is beautiful and a lot of enjoyment is in the presentation of the combat and the world. Truly amazing.

The Javelins don't really shine their roles until you masterwork and beyond. Once you get those class perks, you really get to see them shine, so if you haven't gotten a masterwork, you've not really played anthem.

    Needed additions.

A stat page. 20% added damage means nothing when you need to figure it out yourself. Bioware: talk to Blizzard.

    Endgame quests

More variance in weapons. Looks like there's about 3 or 4 of each. Not good.

Loot and inventory needs to be reworked. You should be able to pick something up and equip it. You should be able to change weapons in the field, you should basically copy every other looter made before this.

My overall impression of anthem is that Bioware did a Blizzard; they made a very great game akin to Blizzards Diablo series. The problem with that is the generation of gamers currently screaming loudly doesn't have the attention span of a goldfish. They don't want slow grinds, they want instant gratification. I call them the fortnite generation. They're big on games that allow them to feel amazing every 10 minutes or so, and when an objective takes them days or even weeks, they literally lose their minds. I was a huge fan of Diablo growing up, so I love the long grind to godliness. Sadly the younger generation does not have enough Adderall to get through that. Look at destiny. That went from long grind to 5min acquisition real quick. Ruined the game too.

Anthem is trying to bring that long grind back. The only problem is the baby carrots on the strings. While I don't mind working 2 weeks or more on an objective, make the reward more than a sticker that is placed horribly on my Javelins and can't be moved or resized. Make it a new ability. A unique weapon. Something special. And don't cave when the vocal minority cries that it's too hard or not fair. That's life. They get so much so easy as is.

Bottom line is anthem COULD be one of the greatest games ever made. It could be a Diablo, a borderlands. But Bioware needs to be committed to that and listen to those that pay the game the most, not those who scream the loudest. They're not your audience. They're not your revenue stream. Your high level freelancers are. Listen to them and reward them and you'll have a legendary title here.

The reason I did not give this game a 10/10 is because of a few minor issues that just bug me a bit. Loading into the game and into different parts of the world take a long time. It gets irritating just sitting there while it loads. I get it's a big game , but there has to be some way to make it load quicker. The other thing is that when the loading screen is up, you're cut off from your squad. You're in the middle of a mission, you get to a loading point, and BAM...cut off from communication. Of course you could always use console parties, but some people I don't really want to add to a friend's list.

Other than these little irritating things, I love this game and hope to see more of it in the future.

Either make an open-world MMO or don't, instanced CO-OP missions are just the worst elements of both 3PS and MMOs.

Too much is lost in the process of going from a single-player campaign like Titanfall 2 into something like Anthem. You lose all of the heart of a single-player game, and don't gain much in gameplay. Flying around is nifty for about two minutes, until you realize it's still just about ADS and circling enemies over and over.

NPCs: The NPCs they want you to feel for and have emotions towards aren't that interesting and I can't feel any attachment to them or really care what anybody has to say. after you're introduced to a few of them it just seems like a chore to talk to NPCs more than you have too. You'll find yourself only wanting to talk to quest givers within a few hours.

I think even a 3 is generous but i wont lower myself to the levels of the haters who rate much better games 0 just because they don't like it and probably haven't even played it.
I don't hate Anthem at all, i really enjoyed it right up until end game when there is simply NOTHING to do but endless runs of HOR at gm1 difficulty, the loot scales so poorly with difficulty that nobody bothers doing gm2 or 3 and when your at 700+ power gm1 is soloable! I have around 80 hours playtime and in the last 20 i did not receive a single worthwhile drop,a complete joke! The devs totally ignore repeated cries from the community(when there was one) to fix the loot, infact they went out of their way to not fix the loot by fixing a "bug" that had increased drops to a respectable rate.It appears there is only one table of roll for all items, so you may get a buff for say an assault rifle rolling onto a sniper rifle! So to actually get a set with decent rolls will take a stupid amount of time, probably even still unreasonable with a better drop rate but as it is now its just awful!
Now the roadmap has been totally removed from view, like it never existed! Wonder how many prior reviews will change? Most knew it was just pretend, player base has dwindled to the point that more people are playing xbox360 games than this, its dropped out of the top 50 played games on xbox, considering bf1 is still in there and ony has a few thousand players its safe to assume Anthem has considerably less, probably a mere 1500 on xbox id say, matchmaking has become a real problem for the handful of people still left. They have tried to save it somewhat by rushing this thing through they are trying to pass of as the "cataclysm" that was on the roadmap, thing is that its nothing at all like what they described the cataclysms to be! Instead it appears to be nothing more than a separate stronghold/s that they had in the works already that they simply whacked a filter on and added some wind in a desperate attempt to try and keep the community but it is far too little far too late and the fact that its obviously nothing at all what was shown at e3 is probbably more damaging than releasing nothing.I didn't pay for this game,it was bundled with a console, had i however i would have gotten a refund ages ago, false advertising and broken promises %100.Anyone who paid for this trash should be fighting hard to get a refund, its never going to be even %25 of what they promised. The pretty graphics and decent flying mechanics are not enough by themselves.Even if it didn't have stupidly long loading scenes and crashes galore, it still wouldn't be worth buying. It honestly feels like a f2p game and i wont be at all surprised if that's what ends up happening to it.If it doesn't go f2p,expect the servers to be turned of within 12months, no way EA will keep hosting servers for the maybe 2 or 3 people who will still be playing it at that stage.

The game supposedly spent 6 years in development, however the majority of the game only came together in the last 18 months or so and it's clear by the state of which it was released in. BioWare are absolutely inept. They had no creative vision for this game, no abilities to make key decisions for this game's direction and frankly, barely any experience building a looter shooter.

The whole "10 year plan" and "Destiny killer" claims are turning out to be nothing more than memes! I'd be shocked if Anthem survives for another 2 years, forget 10 years.

Like or not a game is a particular thing. I liked this game and i don't saw any problem in the xbox one x. But it's possible problems in others platforms.

Absolutely the most overhyped game I’ve ever played and absolutely the worst launch in history never worked right and then once it does it has no personality I have never genuinely hated a video game till anthem came out I want my money back there about 20 hrs of content and you keep thinking can’t wait till the end game till I get to the good stuff never happens it’s awful andromeda wasAbsolutely the most overhyped game I’ve ever played and absolutely the worst launch in history never worked right and then once it does it has no personality I have never genuinely hated a video game till anthem came out I want my money back there about 20 hrs of content and you keep thinking can’t wait till the end game till I get to the good stuff never happens it’s awful andromeda was way better and most people consider that a fail also screw ea I jumped through so many hoops because I was pumped for this game only got to play for an hr for 20 bucks ! This game had potential. It was mismanaged and rushed and the lack of content and real focus shows. The gameplay itself is basically Mass Effect Andromeda.. with flying. Andromeda being the game that was sacrificed so that EA could have a looter-shooter.
There is no point going on much further with this review. The grind is slow and gives you minimal reason to keep going. There is nowhere

I love BioWare Edmonton with a passion from all their other previous games but this... Is sad.... Endgame sucks, customizing is bland... Not many prices to choose from, story is stupidly-short... Sure, the game is pretty an flying is awesome... BioWare you can do better

I really think it is would be a good enough game even considering the missions kind of repetitive. It's kind of like 3rd person only Destiny game. But the game was never finished. Shame. Roadblocks are super annoying.

When I bought this game, I knew that people were saying that this game had little content. I bought this to find out if I think that this game is really worth the criticism. Well...it was. Well...it was. My FIRST four player raid or whatever it is called would have server problems after completing the mission, but it would not save my progress. I have done it three times, and it is horrible. The story of the game I have not finished because for some reason no NPC wants to talk to me anymore and give me new content. I'm sure it's been patched by now, but I haven't touched the game in months. Everything on my YouTube channel of this game is all that I've played for the story and other missions. Other than the server problems, I didn't notice glitches. Loading is a huge problem. The "social hub" often loads after entering an area, dropping in NPC's and shops seconds after entering the market. Some might call this loading screen simulator, and you'd be right because I've spent two or more minutes most of the time in loading screens. The time played does not justify the loading screens. It does not matter what you're loading, it loads SLOWLY. Probably the biggest redeeming feature about this game is flying. I'd say that this game is worth the $10 that many pawn shops sell this game for if you want something that makes you feel like Iron Man with a gun. Player controls feel good. Enemies are bullet sponges if they are a miniboss or an actual boss. I personally don't mind the pointless decisions made in the social hub, but I know that others do. Expand

This game gets a mixed review for me, let me explain. Although this game was a bit of a flop, I kind of enjoyed it, the graphics are nice, the terrain is nice, and the stuff looks nice, however, the game is filled with bugs galore. I had some bugs when doing some missions, I attempted to finish a level but got hit with a invisible wall and had to restart the game. Honestly, they should've just delayed the game a few years, and did some testing before launching it. Expand

In comparison with even the base Destiny 2 – let alone that game expanded by all its excellent DLC – Anthem feels not so much unfinished as barely started. It contains some good ideas which it fails to develop, and some of its basic pillars, such as the insistence on fourplayer co-op, somehow convey the impression of being tacked on rather than fundamental. And even with the huge early patch, it’s still glitchy – we had to play three quarters of a 45-minute Stronghold without sound, for example, which was disconcerting.

As a multiplayer game, the combat here is fun, but heading back to Fort Tarsis to grab the next quest becomes a chore; I found myself fast-forwarding as much dialogue as possible so I could get back into battle. There are likable characters in Anthem if you pay attention, and Bioware’s depth of story does shine if you’re interested. You won’t always be interested, though.

A game with a lot of potential that was released before it was ready.
