Anthem is a new and exciting world full of lore, monsters, and enemies you must overcome to keep the people in Fort Tarsis and the world safe. The story is engaging, and the character voice acting has some great moments. Combat is very fun and makes you feel like a total badass, ready to blow up your problems. Even with some of the issues in the game, Anthem has lots of room to grow. I love this game. I love the storytelling and the free roaming.
I was worried about all the 0-rating reviews but fortunately was only angry users with EA without any hours played in game.
There will be a lot of contents in the near future so I'll waiting for these ...

They also give you difficulty options that significantly change the experience and challenge of the game. If you want a game that doesn't reward skill and that becomes over run with unskilled players go play fortnite, COD, or any other FPS where the player base is predominantly teenagers and young children. I have been waiting for years for a game that actually feels challenging and really requires solid grinding. The play between classes truly feels different unlike other games that Anthem is being compared to. I remember being hyped for Destiny to be this amazing open world experience that had deep story telling, in general what I had come to expect from a Bungie game, only to be completely crushed by the empty lifeless shell that we got. With Anthem, all of the things that the devs promised they delivered on. This game isn't perfect, but I have NEVER seen a more responsive studio to the criticisms (so far, EA might end up killing this game) and they are attempting to correct the areas where there are issues. Ironically, a lot of the negative reviews are coming from Destiny fan boys, Destiny 1 and 2 are complete trash compared to what they promised to deliver on and I would never spend any money on another Destiny game. People that are complaining that Ft. Tarsis feel small or empty are obviously not paying attention to the lore of the game (a small hint is that Ft Tarsis isn't a major population hub in this world, it is a frontier outpost).

There is definitely some room for improvement and balance tweaks, but the game is not the horrible broken mess that people are making it out to be.

Bioware was ambitious and to me it paid off. There are a few issues I have ran into, but I love the gameplay and the story. It does need more content but it is definitely worth playing and supporting, so it will continue to be updated in the future.

While this may not be a traditional game by Bioware, the game in its own right is a fantastic looter shooter. Smooth controls, great movement system and teamwork is super fun. It's not perfect, but it's off to a great start.

Are the missions repetitive, yes. Is there depth to be found if you don't mind paying attention to conversations, yes. For me, the feeling that I got was Mass Effect Multiplayer. Now I know most of you are running for your down votes right now, in which case to hell with ya. But if you're like me and enjoyed Mass Effects 3 Multiplayer and want to see what it can do on a grand and beautiful scale, this game will be a lot of fun. Exploration shows these massive vaults and imposing locked doors, and I can't wait to see what these will be filled with in the coming months. The map is a good size, and I have no doubt that it will get bigger.
On the technical front: there are still some loading bugs, I had one just the other night. But as far as optimization goes, the game looks and run great on a base Xbox One. I have had very few loss of frames and even fewer graphical glitches. The controls are satisfying, the gun play is dynamic, and the world is just fun to be in. Give it an honest shot, be patient with it, and try the game without the urge to hate it and you may just enjoy yourself. There is no where near as many problems as is being depicted across the internet. So, watch a streamer, try a friend's copy, rent it, or other methods that you deem adequate. Just try it before you try to kill it.

Don't expect a rich story or deep characters, expect fun content and good visuals. My rating of a six is based largely on the fact that I found this game to be next to unplayable on Xbox One. But Anthem suffers from the same recent identity crisis that ME:A and DA2. In fact, the similarities are striking. Much like DA2, the story is on rails and lacks much of the emotional investment and expansive effects of you choices that players have come to expect from BioWare. Much like DA2, there are three major shifts in effect on your world to give the illusion that choice matters. Further, combat seems to be the major focus. But as you rise to Grandmaster leveled tasks, tedium takes over and mechanics dissolve as your enemies sponge your abilities. All this would make a title average and is mere commentary on the shift a once amazing studio. But what really kills Anthem is the lack of playability. Free play is hampered by your random placement in the world far from allies. The stat system is convoluted and adjustments to weapons seems to have minimal effects. Crafting is... why is there crafting? It’s useless as it is. And simply changing your load out to experiment to find the best combination of weapons and skills is an exercise in madness that takes an hour rather than a few minutes due to the need to leave the environment just to look at the drops you recieve. Thankfully, I didn’t see or experience the plethora of glitches day 1 players did. But 22 hours in, I’m honestly bored of doing the same “guard this” and “fetch that” actions over and over. In earnest, Anthem has the bones of a great BioWare game with the concept and design. But the desire to steal players away from games like Destiny and The Division forced BioWare away from where it shines. Gone are the characters we wish to spend more time with in dlc or over to hate for a grind that’s ultimately unfulfilling. Expand

I've enjoyed the game style. I feel that the story is lacking. Bioware has really declined in their writing. I feel like it's mostly because of EA forcing the rushed release. You can see by Bioware's development roadmap the game is probably only 1/4 of the way finished. Sad that publishers are ruining games. I'm giving it a 6/10 hoping that it gets better.

I have played through about half the main story and though a few extra expeditions. Probably a total of 10 hours. For the first seven hours I used the in-game match-making. Then I played a couple of expeditions with my son, then I ran a few solo. I have never encountered a single bug (I play on Xbox One). Never had my life mysteriously drained and never experienced any lag nor reduced frame-rate. I have no idea what all the complaining is about.

Finally, the load screens are no longer than Destiny.

The story is shallow feeling. If you are expecting an old-school Bioware game, look elsewhere. Bioware died before ME,A was released. For that kind of experience your should go play something from Obsidian or CD Projekt RED. Bioware is now a political soapbox for EA to stand on.

The game is fun, however. Don't judge it on your memories of what the studio used to be. Judge it on its entertainment value.

Here's why I gave it a 10: You on here giving it 0's to 4's need to be balanced out. The critic reviewers are far too harsh on it too. This is like the opposite of TLOUS for PS4's ratings, which were for over rated, this may be equally as under rated as that game is over rated. I know I went way off topic in the build up but here is my actual review: This game has some of the best fluid gameplay for an third person shooter, period. This is why I get so confused. The story is not terrible. Allow me to explain why this confuses me: Let's do the obvious comparison, Destiny 2. This game has as good of gameplay as you can get for a first person shooter, let's say we weight the game on: Gameplay combat. Story. End game content. Replay-ability. Gameplay set up mechanics and customization (so abilities, skills, guns, leveling routes, different than combat). Destiny 2 would be equal on story. I'm going to outright say it: They both aren't great on story. 7. Gameplay Anthem would be superior from my point of view, but let's use an average person and call them equal. 9, easily on both of these. End game content: It is over exaggerated how much this game is lacking in end game content. Destiny gets one raid per release and night strikes. You can consider Anthem's strongholds not quite a raid, but beyond a night strike from Destiny. Their legendary contracts are similar to your normal looter like Destiny. Their guns, while there are not as many, is for a reason. They have gun sub groups. I can't tell you how many times I got a useless weapon in Destiny, that existed as a form of having as many possibilities for the sake of it. Anthem is clearly geared toward each weapon having a purpose. There are less subsets. There are clearly more weapons in Destiny. I would say it falls behind but not by much, however, it makes up for this in terms of buffs on even your spells, and many different spells, which Destiny has next to zero options regarding, and I see them as therefore equal. Anthem is lacking in guns. Destiny is lacking in ability customization. Anthem's abilities are absolutely stellar. I cannot emphasize this enough. The way it feels when you create a build with the right weapons, and abilities, is awesome, and there are definitely bad builds for the sake of what you combined in a way you don't get with Destiny, as well as awesome super builds. In light of this, I would give both an 8 or 9 in terms of gameplay mechanics. Now, end game is where Anthem is slightly lacking, but I think it is greatly exaggerated because people were hoping Anthem would be an open world similar to an MMO. It is not. It is smaller than Destiny to some degree, but there are legendary contracts similar to night strikes and other content which I think only makes it slightly behind, and this is close to day one. Destiny was lacking to nearly the same degree. I think you can put this at a 6-7 for Anthem and Destiny at release. I would say more like a 7. Let's say Destiny 2 and Destiny are now an 9 in end game content, for what they are mind you, some people flat won't like the content and that is understandable, for what the game is, but you have to consider that when you write a review. You have to try and make it not really about your preference, as much as possible, and more about what the game is and how it pulls off what it is. Replay-ability therefore takes a slight ding, to say a 7, and I think Destiny 2 right now is probably an 8 and was a 7. This makes it though Destiny 2 presently: 9, 7, 8, 8, 8. Whereas some of those were a bit lower at release. So let's say 9, 7, 7, 7, 8. Anthem is definitely a 9, 7, 6-7, 6-7, and I would argue 9 due to the abilities, but some could say 8. To me this means Anthem plays about like a 7.5 to 8.0 game. Destiny 2 at launch was a 7.5 to 8.0 game. Mind you, you don't take all the scores I mentioned and divide to get an average on how the game feels. That simply doesn't work for games like this, though it ends up close to my final number as it is. I think Anthem makes up for a lot of it's flaws through amazing gameplay. I did simplify this a bit, and didn't even include enemy group types and AI. Destiny 2 and Anthem both have amazing enemy diversity and enemy AI, simply put, they set it up so using your abilities and guns feels good. Anthem it's a matter of how do I drain the shields, and how do I set up combos. This simply feels better than Destiny 2, as those combos then charge up your ultimate. There is more depth in team work as a result. The world is also beautiful, and I didn't include graphics as I don't care. The world is diverse as well, but I care more about gameplay. This game deserves an 7.5 to 8 Expand

The combat is lots of fun and really great and still made better, being a live service game they are improving it constantly server side and client side as well. Yes the game has some problems and bugs and the amount of loading screens is really bad (but improving all the time) but they fixed a lot of them already. There is no story tree you can just chose from two options I hope they enrich that and the facial animation is between oke and great depending on the npc and the writing leaves a bit to be desired so I really hope they put some more effort in that.

The road map looks promising and they seem to listen and communicate pretty good with the community.

The cut scenes are mind blowing and the open world is really really well made, it's really very beautifull, the flying is improved a lot since the VIP Demo. The combo's are fun and the shooting is really great and you really has to use some tactics and skill, sometimes there are to much effects on the screen so that you lose focus. The weapons could use some more difference between each other, but there are some really great sniper rifles.

I put a lot of hours into the game, the world and game play is really great so you just want to keep playing it.

If your game was good- it sold. None of this herd-mentality hatred of a company overshadowing the actual content.

Yet the entire industry is now governed by, what i have come to refer to as, the "self-entitled spoiled gamer". They are the ones who dont give a damn about any of that. And they're killing the industry.

They dont care that hundreds, or even thousands, of people have dedicated countless hours of their lives to developing a game.

They dont care that their unneccessarily harsh and cruel reviews will deter others from buying. Which, in turn, results in less sales.

Those less sales mean less revenue for the developer. This results in less risk taking for new ideas by investors and ultimately in unemployment of devs and closure of studios.

These are the same people who then complain about the industry being flooded with "clones" and lack of originality. They complain about game droughts, and 'big bads' like EA and Activision.

Ive got new for you keyboard critics- the problem is you. And you're everywhere. On social media, on website such as this, and even 'official reviewers' (looking at you IGN).

Anthem isn't a bad game. Contrary to many of what these reviewers will have you believe- its actually pretty fun. The visuals are breathtaking, and there are moments where i will just stop and admire the world. You wouldn't be forgiven for thinking it was a snippet from James Cameron's latest Avatar flick.

The gameplay is solid, and flying around in your javelin is everything i wanted after seeing the first ironman film.

Sure, it needs some work in certain areas (such as certain interfaces being unintuitive- i shouldn't need to google "how do i swap between weapons").

Overall a solid game, and i look forward to seeing how the game world evolves. At a minimum Anthem deserves a score in the high 70's.

Great game! Such enjoyable combat, great graphics and a really good story, despite what you read! The EA haters can't look past EA's bad history but this game is so so so much fun to play. Plus there is at least 30h of content and more to come soon.

In comparison with even the base Destiny 2 – let alone that game expanded by all its excellent DLC – Anthem feels not so much unfinished as barely started. It contains some good ideas which it fails to develop, and some of its basic pillars, such as the insistence on fourplayer co-op, somehow convey the impression of being tacked on rather than fundamental. And even with the huge early patch, it’s still glitchy – we had to play three quarters of a 45-minute Stronghold without sound, for example, which was disconcerting.

As a multiplayer game, the combat here is fun, but heading back to Fort Tarsis to grab the next quest becomes a chore; I found myself fast-forwarding as much dialogue as possible so I could get back into battle. There are likable characters in Anthem if you pay attention, and Bioware’s depth of story does shine if you’re interested. You won’t always be interested, though.

A game with a lot of potential that was released before it was ready.
