    -Only 3 Strongholds/Raids
    -In-game store for cosmetic items
-Lack of optimization when flying around
-Fort Tarsis being so small it makes Dragon Age 2's Kirkwall seem large by comparison
-Lack of Roleplaying and dialogue options found in other Bioware games
-Story mode so lacking they padded it out with grindy missions.

While customizing one of the 4 Javelins is entertaining for a little while, there's not enough there to justify a $60 purchase.

If you have Origin Premiere, go ahead, but wait for a patch and more content before diving in.

I love BioWare Edmonton with a passion from all their other previous games but this... Is sad.... Endgame sucks, customizing is bland... Not many prices to choose from, story is stupidly-short... Sure, the game is pretty an flying is awesome... BioWare you can do better

I really think it is would be a good enough game even considering the missions kind of repetitive. It's kind of like 3rd person only Destiny game. But the game was never finished. Shame. Roadblocks are super annoying.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Now that the game is getting no more updates, I will review the (not) finished Anthem.

To no ones surprise, the release of this game was a mess, it was an empty open world, ridden by bugs.
The Story is boring, and almost non existent, and it honestly is a shame, because in the open world of Anthem, there is potential for a great story, and considering that this is BioWare, the people who made Mass Effect and Dragon Age, the story is a big disappointment. Not to mention, that you will have to sit through countless loading screens while playing Anthem. The Crafting System of the game sucks, because it goes beyond human logic, and requires much more items for a legendary version of a weapon than for the epic one. And since we are talking about loot, the loot in anthem still sucks, because it gives absolutely no reason to grind for better versions of the weapon, since it almost improves nothing.
The Endgame, which is supposed to give better loot and tougher enemies, is non existent, and sometimes you can beat a boss on hard in 2 minutes with a squad, and sometimes it takes 20 minutes.
The Menu also is a goddamn mess, with menus being inside of menus inside of menus, which also makes it difficult to find your friends who are also playing the game. With having no main story, it all feels lifeless and boring and is in total an uninteresting and forgettable story. Some NPCs have good lip synchronization, while others have absolutely awful. And of course, still, bugs galore.
Where Anthem shines is its Flight,Graphics and Gameplay.
Flying over the world is a glorious experience, combined with some amazing Graphics. And, besides the absolute disaster which is the loot, I have no complaints about the gameplay itself, its solid.

Well, in Overall, the game is a 3/10 alone and a 5/10 with friends. Yet the lifeless story and the boredom of it are things which are ruining the experience, whoever you are playing with. This game has potential, it always had, and if Anthem NEXT would improve on the Mistakes of Anthem, it would have been a worthy redesign which would be worth coming back to, yet sadly these are all piping dreams.
While I think BioWare should of course not screw up and focus on ME Legendary Edition and Dragon Age 4, Anthem is still unfinished and a slap to the face to everyone who paid 10$+ for this. It remains a dead game, and BioWares biggest failure to date.

    Pros: It's pretty

Cons: Stability is awful, as the game crashes crashes a few times an hour. Performance is meh, even on the One X. The damage numbers in the game don't matter due to scaling. None of the systems in game work as they should.

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. Lucky for me I got my money back. The gameplay is great. Flight controls are great. Graphics are great. Everything else is terrible. Game is incomplete. Loot system is terrible. Loot drop rates are the worst out of all looter shooters. Game has little to no content.

I don't hate Anthem at all, i really enjoyed it right up until end game when there is simply NOTHING to do but endless runs of HOR at gm1 difficulty, the loot scales so poorly with difficulty that nobody bothers doing gm2 or 3 and when your at 700+ power gm1 is soloable! I have around 80 hours playtime and in the last 20 i did not receive a single worthwhile drop,a complete joke! The devs totally ignore repeated cries from the community(when there was one) to fix the loot, infact they went out of their way to not fix the loot by fixing a "bug" that had increased drops to a respectable rate.It appears there is only one table of roll for all items, so you may get a buff for say an assault rifle rolling onto a sniper rifle! So to actually get a set with decent rolls will take a stupid amount of time, probably even still unreasonable with a better drop rate but as it is now its just awful!
Now the roadmap has been totally removed from view, like it never existed! Wonder how many prior reviews will change? Most knew it was just pretend, player base has dwindled to the point that more people are playing xbox360 games than this, its dropped out of the top 50 played games on xbox, considering bf1 is still in there and ony has a few thousand players its safe to assume Anthem has considerably less, probably a mere 1500 on xbox id say, matchmaking has become a real problem for the handful of people still left. They have tried to save it somewhat by rushing this thing through they are trying to pass of as the "cataclysm" that was on the roadmap, thing is that its nothing at all like what they described the cataclysms to be! Instead it appears to be nothing more than a separate stronghold/s that they had in the works already that they simply whacked a filter on and added some wind in a desperate attempt to try and keep the community but it is far too little far too late and the fact that its obviously nothing at all what was shown at e3 is probbably more damaging than releasing nothing.I didn't pay for this game,it was bundled with a console, had i however i would have gotten a refund ages ago, false advertising and broken promises %100.Anyone who paid for this trash should be fighting hard to get a refund, its never going to be even %25 of what they promised. The pretty graphics and decent flying mechanics are not enough by themselves.Even if it didn't have stupidly long loading scenes and crashes galore, it still wouldn't be worth buying. It honestly feels like a f2p game and i wont be at all surprised if that's what ends up happening to it.If it doesn't go f2p,expect the servers to be turned of within 12months, no way EA will keep hosting servers for the maybe 2 or 3 people who will still be playing it at that stage.

Well...it was. My FIRST four player raid or whatever it is called would have server problems after completing the mission, but it would not save my progress. I have done it three times, and it is horrible. The story of the game I have not finished because for some reason no NPC wants to talk to me anymore and give me new content. I'm sure it's been patched by now, but I haven't touched the game in months. Everything on my YouTube channel of this game is all that I've played for the story and other missions. Other than the server problems, I didn't notice glitches. Loading is a huge problem. The "social hub" often loads after entering an area, dropping in NPC's and shops seconds after entering the market. Some might call this loading screen simulator, and you'd be right because I've spent two or more minutes most of the time in loading screens. The time played does not justify the loading screens. It does not matter what you're loading, it loads SLOWLY. Probably the biggest redeeming feature about this game is flying. I'd say that this game is worth the $10 that many pawn shops sell this game for if you want something that makes you feel like Iron Man with a gun. Player controls feel good. Enemies are bullet sponges if they are a miniboss or an actual boss. I personally don't mind the pointless decisions made in the social hub, but I know that others do. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really wanted to like this game. Let’s go over where I like it. The story seems good and I like the cut scenes and characters. But this post apocalyptic style of story telling where something really bad happened and there’s these Freelancers. It’s just been over saturated. Anthem is no different then the traveler and the freelancers are essentially guardians. And I do t know what this legacy and legend talk is but who cares? I want to play a game and bringing those up just seems like marketing used since ME3. And the post apocalyptic stuff is so over played. Destiny, Division, now Anthem. I mean come on. Conversation trees are just a binary option with no substance and we know they can do better. The suites are neat idea and the flight is awesome, It looks great. The customization of colors is on point. I am just not a fan of the chicken legs. Personal preference. Not a biggy. However, if you spent time on warframe or Destiny there seems to be a mix of these styles. I don’t see why a suit needs a cape or why firearms need to be covered in cloth or rags. Now finally the game itself. I am constantly getting disconnected. The suits overheat way too fast and I mean way too fast. The game is constantly crashing and during the load up of missions I have overlays of the animation where I suite up next to another render of my suites crotch. I am so sick and tired of falling for this EA trap of having this unfinished they’ll patch it later nonsense. The game seems barren and the enemies I’ve been facing? I just want to play the crab people song from South Park. It’s really too bad they ruined Mass Effect. Can you imagine if they made an MMO for that? They could have even introduced this flying system. It would have been sweet. But they burned that to the ground. Now we have this new story that copies Destiny, Warframe, and a post apocalyptic setting with some mysterious anthem. The only thing this game has going for it is it actually has a story with cut scenes and substance unlike Destiny. But outside of that, it’s another game that feels like it’s jnfinished or stripped and they’re going to take youbover the coals via DLC. I’m not a fan. Expand

That being said, I also own the game on PC and I will regurgitate this review with a PC review as well. I will also say that having a decent PC gives me a solid benchmark to compare this game on separate platforms. (GTX 1080, AMD Ryzen 7 1700X, 16 GB ram and NVM SSD support with a 144hz 27in monitor)

I will start with the hardware performance. The Xbox version does not give you a very smooth rendered version of the game and the textures and resolution are rough around the edges, this definitely affect the ability to be immersed in the world and also affects the ability to shoot targets without a good zoom factor. It has a "butter over too much toast" feel, like it was made for next-gen. I felt this way about Red Dead Redemption 2, where i saw minor details in the graphics start to fail. The PC version on ultra settings is incredible, graphics wise.

Now onto the game its self. The story is not compelling as you find a lack of a convincing villain. There is no build-up for the backstory when the Dominion are introduced. Remember Saren in Mass Effect? He was the villain we could all understand right off the bat. He was the best of the SPECTRE, he betrayed his cause, he was given a character that felt, spoke, and reasoned, and he was a lead/foreshadow to the Reaper threat, the ultimate bad guys. All we know about Dr. Harkin is that he led the dominion before the Heart of Rage, looked like a creepy clown out of costume, and probably died. Up front, that is my main gripe about Anthem's story line. This is the first way it is like the first Destiny game. The second way is the lore. The Anthem (similar to the Traveler) is a fulcrum of creation technology that factions fight to control. The Freelancers (Guardians) are essentially mercenary loyalists living in what appears to be the last stronghold for the good guys, running around with limited organization or control. They tend to ally with the Sentinels, which aren't explained well off the bat. You quickly realize, like in Destiny, you aren't really a faction but a group of people that have common goals. Furthermore, we don't know who is in charge, but because we accept contracts to get things done, one can only conclude its rich people. This doesn't add up to a good plot because the protagonist has conflicting motivators and the means of saving the world must rely on people paying him to do so. Destiny had a much better foundation with this. Guardians were intrinsically motivated because if the Traveler died, they died, if the Traveler died, humanity died. They existed and fought to protect the people, that was their motivation. Freelancers fight for money with a competing motivator to save people. This is a GREAT concept in an RPG shooter because you can choose your path and write your own story. Unfortunately, those choices are severely limited here and Anthem leaves us feeling like Bioware refused to commit fully to RPG shooter.

Gameplay. The gameplay felt a little off. First, the flight mechanics were suppose to set this game apart. However, they really just become your sparrow from Destiny. Oh, and they overheat, which makes no sense at all. The people can make a high tech robot suit but can't figureout how to cool off a flying object a fraction of the size of airplanes, something we have mastered in real life. This leaves me having to dive to cool while flying and do a kind of up-down path to maintain temperature. Annoying. In the beginning, you can't fly and shoot or attack at the same time, you can only hover and shoot, which is bad because you have no cover. It's essentially useless and after the first few minutes leaves you feeling disappointed. The shooter mechanics have a very Mass Effect feel and there is a problem with that. This game is trying to achieve a "Destiny" like effect. Low story content, addicting loot structure. It fails the same way The Division failed, in my opinion. Without being close up in first person, you cannot see your gun very well. This makes it difficult to feel like one gun is different from the next. Destiny made us feel like every gun was special, like a new puppy. I always felt like Mass Effect shooter mechanics were simplified but i didn't mind because of the RPG factor. Now I mind. Next, there is the way bad guys move. They don't seem to have any real grace or complexity. They feel stiff. Furthermore, its hard to tell if I am fighting bad guys, or wild animals at the beginning.

Ok, the good things. The game's graphics are breathtaking on PC. The gameplay feels fluid with keyboard and mouse. It almost makes up for the rest of the game being mediocre. This makes me wonder how much Bioware spent testing on consoles. The Javelin (mechsuits) are pretty cool and the customization factor makes you feel like a mech warrior without the clunkiness of a Mech Warrior.

I went full speed ahead and purchased the Legion Of Dawn edition of the game in expectations that I would get exclusive in game content; a banner, some armor, shaders and a weapon. I was overly disappointed in the lack of use for the banner, the lack-luster of the LOD shader and how quickly (1 hour) I tossed the Legendary weapon aside for a common one (grey).

Overall the graphics are great, minus the many many cuts, removals and drawbacks from the many game play reveals on the hype-train. The story is more or less, not needed; UNLESS you are a lore hunter and want to delve into the side stories, monologue and "interactive" conversations with NPCs throughout this 1st part of the game.

That's right I said 1st part of the game, I'm looking forward to the rest.

The replay-ability of the game is based on the many numerous fighting styles you can learn and master throughout each mission rewarding randomly generated equipment, sometimes closely related to your Javelin. Javelin's are very different which is appreciated. I often see game comparisons online, in chat and in reviews; however how can you really compare a game based on its structure? The story is drastically different and refreshing, however the bad part is the fever pitch in how you begin and how "to be continued" happens.

I remain skeptical on the "Free content" that is going to tie up loose ends and continually be offered. I've been told this promise before. However because of the reply-ability however monotonous it is, although still fun, I will more than likely drop whatever price they list later in the Xbox Store for the future DLCs and content, purely so I can have a sense of completeness from my experience, versus being left on a cliff hanger as many gamers like me are.

and before you push aside this review like many others as "another no-lifer playing the game too hard" I am clearly not.

Hard truth - Do not buy, rent.

    Cons:
server disconnections, long boring loading screens, careless matchmaking algorithm, clumsy in game interfacing and interactions with objects, RNG lootbased system, lack of economic system (coins are useless), walk speed in fort tarsis, LOD edition items (fail)

Pros: Graphics, Story, Challenges, Teamplay potential.

If possible I will update this review later on.

I was willing to accept that you have to play the same one or two missions over and over to collect enough endgame loot in order to try and survive the highest difficulty; but when I finally got a decent run, defeated the final boss and picked up 5 exciting new pieces, the stupid game crashed loading the victory screen and kicked me to the main menu because there had been some connection error. When I got back in, it acted like I hadn't even played that mission. Poof. No loot for you.

It looks really good, I guess. It's fun to zip around like Iron Man and launch missiles at monsters, sure. Of course, you have to stop flying every 30s or you'll crash when your thrusters overheat. I guess they wanted you to have to stop and look around or something? Sometimes you can fly under a waterfall or into a lake and get another 30s without having to land a wait awhile though. Get ready to live for those moments.

Also, can we agree that there's a difference between challenging gameplay and wildly lopsided numerical contests? Turn the difficulty up to "maybe you'll get one or two nice drops" and watch your previously effective war machine suddenly rendered almost instantly kill-able by virtually every badguy on the map, while even the lightest of enemies can soak up 3 magazines from your favorite assault rifle with a smile. You're supposed to use your suits other abilities to create damage multipliers called "combos", but good luck with that when you've got two or three aggros. Once you've suffered through enough of that for your buddies to hate you for all the time they spent reviving your busted ass, be ready to have your precious winnings utterly forgotten about by the duct-taped hackery holding the whole damn thing together.

Easily the thing I hate the most is that it's simply inexcusable to have ruined what could have been such a great thing with technical problems. It's like taking delivery of your new Porsche only to find the leather is attached with Elmer's glue and they lubed the transmission with peanut butter.

I gave this game a chance because it seemed like a really neat concept and a way to fill the loot-shooter shaped hole in my life left by the Borderlands drought. Do yourself a favor and don't be like me. Wait for the real thing.

A year ago, I bought Hbox One S and installed Anthem with a gamepass.
There were long downloads of the game network, crashes, bugs. I uninstalled the game. A year passed, I thought the game had been improved, and I bought today the disc at a sale store.

A picture with music on the TV screen, and the inscription "connect to network services" for an hour!
For what I give the money ? To enjoy the game, or to infinitely look at "connecting to online services"?
Anthem is the worst game not even worth the buying for 80% sale.

Why on earth did Bioware not include a 1080p60 or 1440p60 performance mode on X1X and pro?
This game feels like an outdated last gen title. When do devs understand that 25-30fps is unplayable garbage?
What's the point of having a pristine 4K image running like trash and blur it with ugly motion blur...

Nice Iron Man simulator. But the game is so 'not there' it is unreal. Characters lack any real depth, and considering this is a Bioware game I expected more. I wanted Mass Effect Andromeda to be a misstep, a bad day at the office ... but I think that is the sort of standard we can now expect from them. And there are so many annoying things in the game. Do not buy this game. Honestly.

The game is a boring mess. You'll waste 4 or 5 hours before you realize the story isn't going anywhere, your loot consists of lame guns that you have to leave missions to use, you'll watch more loading screens than actually playing (no, seriously) and the enemies..... Wow, the same enimies over and over and over.....

Please do not support this kind of garbage.

In comparison with even the base Destiny 2 – let alone that game expanded by all its excellent DLC – Anthem feels not so much unfinished as barely started. It contains some good ideas which it fails to develop, and some of its basic pillars, such as the insistence on fourplayer co-op, somehow convey the impression of being tacked on rather than fundamental. And even with the huge early patch, it’s still glitchy – we had to play three quarters of a 45-minute Stronghold without sound, for example, which was disconcerting.

As a multiplayer game, the combat here is fun, but heading back to Fort Tarsis to grab the next quest becomes a chore; I found myself fast-forwarding as much dialogue as possible so I could get back into battle. There are likable characters in Anthem if you pay attention, and Bioware’s depth of story does shine if you’re interested. You won’t always be interested, though.

A game with a lot of potential that was released before it was ready.
