What should be a joyful revival is dragged down by low-res textures, repetitive missions, punchless attacks, and an overall lack of excitement.

If you're a fan of the series and want a game that delivers, go watch the show while you wait for a different Voltron game - one where you have more control over the super robot than simply pushing buttons on cue.

To say that Voltron: Defender of the Universe is a disappointment is an understatement. What should be blistering action is yawn-inducing and seems more like a chore used to get to the mech sequences, which only serve to disappoint MORE by the sheer mediocrity of them. I'd rather watch the series on Netflix.

The gameplay itself is simplistic, repetitive and fails to convey the powerful feeling of piloting a team of robot lions that transform into a towering intergalactic badass. It may be Voltron by name, but in this case the five cats have come together to form an absolute dog.

Voltron: Defender of the Universe is a downloadable game just about everyone should skip.

If you're an oldie who remembers Voltron, do yourself a favor and don't soil those memories with this. [Issue #81, p.103]

Voltron: Defender of the Universe is a poorly designed cash-in on a franchise that hasn't been relevant in years. It's particularly telling when the announcer is your absolute best feature, stating "Voltron will return after these messages" when you pause, then "And now back to Voltron" when you resume play. That's right: the best part of the game only appears when you stop playing. I rest my case.

You'd be better off just going back and watching the animé instead.
