I got this game on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. It is a much tougher kind of first person shooter than others in the genre with its weaponry from the 1800s that requre each shot to really matter vs something like HALO 2 where you got a gun in each hand spittin a 100 bullets a second. Being produced by Activision it has a similar control scheme and feel to Call of Duty, except you I got this game on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. With virtually zero advertising on this game out there it is a gem surely to be overlooked. Expand

This game uses the COD2 engine to simulate 12 battles in the American Civil War. The weapons are historically accurate, and the reload times are in fact accurate as well. This game makes melee take importance over gunplay. You have rifles, repeaters, carbines, pistols, sabres, knives and historically correct gernades (you have to land them flat for them to explode!). You will save your bullets for critical times and it cranks the intensity of the game up dramatically because of this. There are also cannons, gatling guns, and powerkegs to use in this game. The 12 levels are all real Civil War battles, 6 for the North, and 6 for the South. The graphics are above average, since this is using the COD2 engine. The frenzy that was in COD2 is here too, but more intense because you just can't go in blasting. You will learn to respect your sabre and bayonet. A solid, well-produced effort and certainly worth your time if you are a fan of FPS. This game puts a new spin on FPS games and it does not disappoint. Expand

This Game was a total Shock to me. I rented it off gamefly and I must say it is a really good game. This isn't a Run and shoot game that FPS have become known for lately. You have to respect your cover. The weapons are accurate and so are the reloading times. its great to see that when your reloading the enemy is taking just as long so they can't get any cheap shots on you. I originally bought this game because I'm a Civil War buff. I was pleasantly suprised. It looks good, mostly sounds good, and you can bayonet people! What's more fun than that?

I gave it a 10 because the graphics are really good, the sound is awesome and when you bayonet people you just feel plain good.

  1. After playing through the game, we couldn't help but wonder why Civil War: A Nation Divided wasn't released at a lower price point. The game features subpar graphics, no multiplayer mode, poor AI, and a fairly short single-player campaign.
  2. At best, Civil War is a weekend rental for shooter fans, history buffs, or Achievement miners who aren't knee deep in this fall's blockbuster military games. Be prepared to learn a little and reload a lot - while the buckshot flies all around you.

Sure, you've got some historic weapons and rally cries you won't likely hear in another game. Yet, the shooting isn't fun and the gameplay doesn't do anything to bring the feel of the Civil War to life.
