    Even though I prefer Sonic Colors, I can't deny this game is incredible, the gameplay is as great as sonic colors, though noticeably glitchier, not to the level of Sonic 06, but it's still noticeable. Though the story and writing is really, REALLY, weak compared to Sonic Colors, and the soundtrack, while it's still great.     Sonic Colors was the game that brought me back to the series. when I played this game, I knew Sonic's reign of bad games had come to an end. Modern stages are just as fun. the game takes the unleashed formula once again, and feels smoother thanks to the better frame rate. The graphics for the game are among the most beautiful I've ever seen in a game. each zone does their reincarnations very well with graphics. along with that, each stage has good level design. The soundtrack, like most Sonic games, is awesome. both original and remixed tunes are catchy, and it becomes even better when you find out you can switch the song in a stage to one of the ones unlocked. This game falls flat in 2 areas, however: boss battles and missions. the boss battles are short, both in length and numbers. I would have liked more of a variety of bosses in the game. the final boss, which I won't spoil, is the worst part of the game. you have no idea what is going on the whole time, and the controls constantly fight you here. and it doesn't help that Sonic's friends are constantly babbling. the side missions in the game add to the replay value, but are bland in the end. each one is either too easy or too difficult, and shouldn't be bothered with, except for the times when it's required in order to progress. Overall, Sonic Generations is a great game. the gameplay has twice the fun with both gameplay styles, the graphics are beautiful, and the soundtrack is the biggest one in years.… Expand

    The game allows you to play with 2 Sonics. One from the good old genesis days and one from the modern Sonic days. Sounds confusing? Well, time travel is always confusing so don't point at me. The two Sonics are on their    Sonic Generations marks the 20th anniversary of the Blue blur, and with celebrations of our beloved gaming icon, a game also joins the club. And what kind of game is it?

    The game allows you to play with 2 Sonics. One from the good old genesis days and one from the modern Sonic days. Sounds confusing? Well, time travel is always confusing so don't point at me. The two Sonics are on their way to save their friends, speeding through stages of the past and fix the timeline.

    The gameplay is fun for everyone, either an old skool Sonic fan or a new one, or even someone who has never been part of this franchise. Like playing old platformers with speed added, classic Sonic is your friend! More of a 3d speed section fan, modern Sonic is the guy you want! You'll have to play with both of them to complete the game but don't worry, you'll enjoy it.

    The music consists mainly of older Sonic themes being remixed. For example, when you go through a stage you will hear two versions, a classic version and a modern version of the original stage theme. And they are absolutely a joy to listen to.

    Other things also make a return or are brand new. There are mission gates which allows you to go through stages with an other goal than reach the finish, and there's a skill shop in which you can adjust Sonic's gameplay style to your own. Want more speed? Buy the blast off skill. Want more grip? The acceleration skill is something you want.

    There are only two negative points that I have to mention with this game, which are the length and the story. The length of this game is only 4 hours long, not counting the missions and collecting red rings or achievements, so that's a bit of a let down. The story is pretty awkward. There are barely any cutscenes, and making a story including time travel tends to fail easy if done wrong.

    I would advice this game to any fan, whether old skool, modern lover or not a fan of Sonic overall.    … Expand

This game has a short and bland story, but theSonic finally returned with what is possibly the best sonic game since the old genesis titles. This game has a short and bland story, but the game-play MORE than makes up for it, The game has 9 different stages each from older sonic games, separated into 3 era's that represent the older games. You have the classic era (green hill, chemical plant and sky sanctuary), the dreamcast era (speed highway, city escape and seaside hill) and the modern era (crisis city, rooftop run and planet wisp). Along with a huge set of missions, rival battles and boss fights from the older games, revamped for the new game-play mechanics. Every stage has their older music remixed and remastered, and it does not disappoint, filled with godly level design with branching paths, they also have red-star rings scattered throughout the stage that give you special bonus features, like music and artwork. Modern Sonic's 2.5D/3D game-play is a perfect mix of platforming and speed, while classic sonic's game-play is the same as the classics.     Sonic Generations is pretty much the old Sonic games all rolled into one with much more modern graphics noticing fine points in the game may help you later in the hidden levels.

    With the best elements of both Unleashed and Colors Sonic Generations is easily one of the best 3D sonic games since the days of the dream cast. Sonic Generations has truly fantastic level design for both classic and modern sonic with a kick ass soundtrack to boot. The only area where this game falls short is with the final boss it is very confusing and hitting the time eater feels almostWith the best elements of both Unleashed and Colors Sonic Generations is easily one of the best 3D sonic games since the days of the dream cast.     A great Sonic game and one of the best Sonic games in a while. Stunning visuals, high-octane platforming, great soundtrack and just a ton of fun to play. While the story is rather-lacking, this game is my 2nd favorite Sonic game.

    This game was released on 3DS, but also has an X360 version! This version features better, though non-3D graphics, decent control (especially on the classic stages), and a really awesome area where you can play your favourite Sonic music again and again.     Easily one of the best 3D Sonics ever made. The story was good ole Sonic Fun. And it also had a lot of good nostalgia with the levels. My only complaint is that it all felt too short.

    Finally the Sonic game i have waited for it is outstanding combing everything that makes the character and games great. the gameplay is throughly enjoyable no matter which sonic you play as and revisiting these levels is great nostalgia highly recommended to any Sonic fan and heres hoping future games will adopt this style of gameplay

Сюжет банальний але красива та кольорова графіка, крутий саундтрек та добре керування персонажем роблять цю гру чудовою.     Sonic Generations is my second favourite Modern Sonic game due to its high speed action; fans of the classic titles will enjoy the game as much as I do.

    Everything about this game is amazing with the only letdown being the easy difficulty and not many other stages from other Sonic games to play; I rate this game a 8.5 out of 10. A must play for long time Sonic fans.

Or, you may play as Modern Sonic in 3D levels that have him home attack and boost, with the boost returning from the previous Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors.    This game is a love letter to the whole Sonic franchise, and I love it.

    The game has two different styles of gameplay. You can play as Classic Sonic in his 2D levels that bring back the memories of his days in the early 90's. Or, you may play as Modern Sonic in 3D levels that have him home attack and boost, with the boost returning from the previous Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors.

    Also, classic levels are here to play in and explore too.

    Representing the classic or Genesis era, we have Green Hill (obviously) from the very first Sonic game, Chemical Plant from Sonic 2, and Sky Sanctuary from Sonic & Knuckles.

    Representing the Dreamcast era is Speed Highway from Sonic Adventure (one of the first 3D Sonic games), City Escape from Sonic Adventure 2, and Seaside Hill from Sonic Heroes (even though Heroes was never even on the Dreamcast. This era should be called something else like the Drummond era, after Sonic's voice actor, Ryan Drummond, in all these three games. Or maybe, sixth generation era, because the Dreamcast was a sixth gen console, and Heroes was on all the other sixth gen consoles. I don't know why, but the name Dreamcast era just kinda bothers me).

    And finally, the modern era, with Crisis City from Sonic '06 (why), Rooftop Run from Sonic Unleashed, and Planet Wisp from Sonic Colors (honestly, Planet Wisp is the one level I hate in Generations).

    The music is fantastic. It is just remixes, but they're actually great.

    This was a perfect way to celebrate 20 years of Sonic. Five years later and the game is still awesome and amazing and fun. It's by no means original, but who cares. As long as the gameplay has been perfected (which it has), there's tons of fun and replayability here. I forgot to mention the plot, but it's alright. It's just Sonic meets with his younger self and they stop a new foe called the Time Eater. Again, it's alright. Not the best, but not the worst. But who cares about story when tons of classic stages are available to explore in 2D and 3D perspectives. This is one of the best Sonic games in a while.    … Expand

    I played this game on Pc and play this game on X360 . On X360 graphics not worse than On PC and control on X360 better than ON PC . And game very very good on each platform .

    This is one of the best Sonic games ever made, it's not perfect, because some of the challenges where stupid, and it's short. But the game play and graphics cancel both of those flaws out

    The story sucks, the games short, the final boss sucks, could have used more, but what we got is still an awesome game, 2nd favourite sonic game for me.

    This is a great game, this is what a sonic game should be like, fast but easy to control, I found the final boss to be kinda difficult but that's not necessarily a bad thing, the 2D levels are my favourite levels in this game by far, the 3D levels were good but felt lacking to me, this is a great sonic game that anyone can enjoy.

    Sonic Generations is my second favourite Sonic game for a reason. Combining classic 2D gameplay with that of modern 3D gameplay creates the most suitable game for Sonic's 20th anniversary. In my opinion it is also the second best looking Sonic game to date. Although not particularly special, the story is simple and straight forward and the controls are great having fixed the AirSonic Generations is my second favourite Sonic game for a reason. Combining classic 2D gameplay with that of modern 3D gameplay creates the most suitable game for Sonic's 20th anniversary. In my opinion it is also the second best looking Sonic game to date. Although not particularly special, the story is simple and straight forward and the controls are great having fixed the Air Boost/Homing Attack problem from Unleashed. The levels themselves are great fun with both classic and modern Sonic, being not too short nor too long. The Bosses are fun to play but for me, are really easy to beat. The boss battles could be improved if there were more of them and they were harder. The unlockables are great and make collecting red star rings and completing challenges even more essential. As for the music, well, lets just say there aren't many games with better soundtracks. I truly hope that I will get the Sonic Generations Blue Blur Official Soundtrack soon and I recommend this and the game to anyone interested. A brilliant game for a brilliant video game icon. Sonic Generations is my second favourite Sonic game in history (that title goes to Sonic Adventure 2/Battle) and I highly recommend this game to Sonic fans and maybe even fans of platforming. This is all my opinion but you're going to have to play the game to judge it. :-)… Expand

    Excelent game, a little short in story but there's a lot of challenges and side missions you can do to make it a bit longer. Very fun, nice remixes, really good graphics

    I would recommend this game to all Sonic fans, and platform fans. It is the best platform game for the Xbox 360! Enjoyable music, zones, great graphics, great storyline and more ( there are secrets in the game ).

    The story in this game depicts Sonic celebrating his birthday. When all of a sudden the time eater comes out of nowhere and destroys the world leaving it colorless and empty. Which leaves Sonic to go and rescue his friends and restore them back to there filled forms in both classic and modern Sonic (which ties into the game play really well). While the story isn't too remarkable, there's some really cool details they leave in the story for past fans to enjoy. I also really like the symbolic meaning of Sonic celebrating his birthday as this game is supposed to represent the history of sonic coming together to create the ultimate game. Overall the story does it's job very well to motivate the player to finish the game but it's completely optional as you can skip all the cut scenes if you desire.

    Gameplay
    The gameplay in this game is extremely weird sometimes. First, the controls. The controls can be inconsistent and I found it to be very frustrating when they never worked when I wanted them to work. The main problem is how sluggish it can be to control sonic in certain sections. For example, which is easily the worst stage in the game. It was so annoying not being able to be precise with the platforming that stage. If the controls were to be improved, I would make them a lot more responsive and tactile. The hit boxes in this game is another lacking area. There would be times where I wanted to pick up some rings but I would barely miss them even though it would've looked like I got them. Either way these weren't deal breakers but I would've liked the game a lot more. However for the times they did worked it was great. Just be aware that certain sections can be frustrating for this reason. The boost felt great and so did the drifting.

    Presentation
    The Graphics in this game look incredible mostly with how the rocks look and the texture work. Some parts look a little rough, but overall they did a great job remaking these stages to a crisp HD look. Also the music is amazing and leaves me listening to it even after I end the game.

    In conclusion Sonic generations is a great celebration of all things Sonic and I'm really happy to have this be my first time playing a real Sonic game like this. I would highly recommend this game when it goes on sale.    … Expand

    Sonic Generations is easily the best modern Sonic game you can buy today. Which is disappointing, considering how this was released way back in 2011. While the story is barebones, it's a simple enough excuse to justify a glorified retrospective trip throughout Sonic's history. Each level is a reimagining of a famous one from an older title, starting with the original Genesis game andSonic Generations is easily the best modern Sonic game you can buy today. Which is disappointing, considering how this was released way back in 2011. While the story is barebones, it's a simple enough excuse to justify a glorified retrospective trip throughout Sonic's history. Each level is a reimagining of a famous one from an older title, starting with the original Genesis game and ending with Colors. Both Classic and Modern Sonic play well, controls were tight and responsive. Each level is also highly replayable due to great design choices. Modern Sonic's levels truly shine the most, as it feels more like a reworked, balanced version of Unleashed. Ironically, the game falls apart in the last 3 acts (with levels based on games like Sonic '06). I don't know who decided to make each of those levels 10 minutes long, but it was a terrible mistake. I swore at least a third of the game revolved around Sonic '06, Unleashed, and Colors. Instead of redeeming the negatives from those titles, it just makes it ever so painfully clear why they weren't good, making you want to replay the Dreamcast levels more than anything else. Padding involves tedious mini-levels featuring other characters as support (a level involving Tails were he has to fly you over big gaps you couldn't jump, etc). Of course, you need to complete at least one of those 3 times per act as to get the Boss Key. At least the mini-boss levels were interesting, like recreating the famous final battle against Shadow. Music is always great, it's a Sonic game. Most music included are remixed cuts of songs you will probably sing along to, if you grew up playing the franchise. I truly hope SEGA can allow Sonic Team the time and resources to create a better follow-up to Forces. The engine is already available, so enough with the gimmicks already. A next-gen (Modern only) Sonic game that's truly great is within reach. I played this version of Sonic Generations on an Xbox One S, via backward compatible features. Benefits included better textures and a framerate that never dropped once. An Xbox One X 4K/60fps patch is also available. (I have also completed this game on PS3 a year ago, so my comparison to last gen hardware is to that version, which had minor framerate drops roughly twice a level). I truly believe this game could have been a 10 if delayed, or a 9 if the last few levels were reworked. As it stands, I will argue that it's a solid 8/10 game worth playing for everyone.     Sonic Generations is a really enjoyable game, with a creative story, albeit with some weak gameplay (mainly because of Modern Sonic's acts), but the game looks amazing for a game from 2011, probably my favorite video game from 2011, barely edging out Super Mario 3D Land. Kind of funny how they came out 2 days in between each other.

    I really love this game, and for those who have played it, you travel though time as sonic and his Genesis self and blast through the past to defeat a mysterious figure that has captured his friends.

    As an unapologetic fan of both Sonic Adventure games who found Sonic Unleashed frustrating and not worth finishing, I was happily surprised by Sonic Generations. Despite its short length, this was probably the first time I went back and replayed levels in a Sonic game just to try and get the best time possible. And as someone who has no regard for reaching the top of a leaderboard, I findAs an unapologetic fan of both Sonic Adventure games who found Sonic Unleashed frustrating and not worth finishing, I was happily surprised by Sonic Generations. Despite its short length, this was probably the first time I went back and replayed levels in a Sonic game just to try and get the best time possible. And as someone who has no regard for reaching the top of a leaderboard, I find this an incredible achievement.

    Though it absolutely rides on the coattails of Sonic's prior exploits, this game (especially the Modern Sonic sections, I've found) is engaging as hell. The designs of the reimagined levels are quite well-conceived, and both Classic and Modern Sonic control remarkably well (Classic Sonic especially, who feels almost the same as he did in the Genesis games). Furthermore, the return of Super Sonic is a welcome addition for longtime fans of this series, who were stuck playing as him only in the final boss battle of the game.

    I would recommend this game to anyone looking for a solid fast-paced action game. And when it comes to longtime Sonic fans, this is an easy recommendation - you will be reminded of the best Sonic had to offer, because it is in full force in this game.    … Expand

    many of sonic fans liked classic sonic gameplay but ı think its kinda boring.2d gameplay was good in mania but in this one its boring a lot and that key finding is boring too modern levels AWSOME btw.

    This is the best 3D sonic, no doubt.
    The 2D sections with classic sonic are fun.
    But, this game is really short, like really short, you can beat it in 1 Hour.
    Not a must-play, but if you enjoyed the modern sonic levels in sonic unleashed, you will enjoy this one.

Although it is easy and very short, lasting less than 3 hours, it is very good, it could be better, having more levels, more challenges, being more long-lived and having a third Sonic being the one from the Adventure era, "pre-boost" in this case, and also a much better story and setting.

    It is simply one of the more refined Sonic games ever made, and have levels of almost all of Sonic history, if you are a Sonic fan you should try it.

    this game has some of the best boost level design of any 3d sonic.
    im not the biggest fan of classic sonic, i would rather have adventure sonic.
    but il be lying if i say that these stages aren't wel designed. i love how fast the spin dash is. and this game has some great music. seaside hill is the most open boost level ever there are like a million pathways some i still never knew    this game has some of the best boost level design of any 3d sonic.

    I definitely love this game and I appreciate it for what it did for the franchise, Classic sonic in this game despite it being a little rough around the edges, is still pretty fun. And Modern Sonic was just a thrill to play, the music, the graphics, the level design all had so much thought put into it.

    This Game has Amazing levels,Classic Sonic actually is fun in this game imo,Ost is a Banger like every Sonic Game and Has Very good unlockable music which you get by collecting Red Rings.The only problems i have with this game is the story and Planet Wisp.

    Best sonic game I've played so far. Gameplay and controls are very comfortable, beautiful graphics, no cringe jokes, two sonics and they remastered music from older titles, so you could listen to almost every single track while playing the game.

    The game is split into Classic Sonic segments and Modern Sonic segments.

    The Modern Sonic sections is some of the best that the boost gameplay has to offer. Some of the levels get really open. It really tests your reflexes and has decent platforming. Classic Sonic attempts to emulate how the original Classic Sonic trilogy and CD controlled. While the controls and physics aren’t perfect, they are definitely serviceable and the level design accommodates the game’s technical shortcomings. Level design is rock solid throughout. The game’s story is very low-key. I think that’s a good thing. I don’t even want to see how the writers would massacre this story if they went all in with time travel elements.    … Expand

    This is my favorite Sonic game of all time. Both the Modern and Classic Sonic gameplay are PHENOMENAL. The game is a perfect length, as it doesn’t take more than a few days to complete (if you’re not doing it all in 1 sitting).

    You literally can't go wrong with this game, it's sooooooooo goood. The level design is perfect, though I do wish the levels were longer. There are a few levels that can be difficult at times, like Crisis city act 1, but the majority of the levels are easy, but it doesn't matter because it's so fun. The only critique I can really give is this game should have been longer. There should have been a level from sonic cd (like palm tree panic_), sonic rush, sonic and the secret rings and sonic and the black knight. I also think they should have given us a classic zone from the first half of sonic 3, like Hydrocity or icecap zone. Classic Sonic was awesome. Modern Sonic is awesome. There isn't a single bad level in this game at all. It's a shame that, for the next decade after, the series was gonna plummet severely. But hay, that doesn't matter anymore because Sonic frontiers brought sonic back to life. This is really a love letter to the franchise.… Expand

    A good, short and sweet Sonic game that improves everything from colors and unleashed (except for story and identity). The level design is fast and fluid for both sonics (mostly for modern), the music is some of the best remixes in the series and seeing my favorite stages in HD brings a tear to my eye.     It's crazy how much Colors fans will hate this game and Sonic Unleashed on Twitter and even pretend Forces is much worse just to make their mediocre game look better, but we Generations and Unleashed fans will not allow this revisionist history to prevail

    Sonic Generations lets you play as two different Sonics, one from the present and one from the past. The first levels are fantastic, but the level design soon gets dull. The time trials and the music is good though.

    It's somewhat short and the boss battles are truly awful, but otherwise Sonic Generations is a solid platformer. Revisiting old levels is nostalgic and having two Sonics to control is a nice touch. [Dec 2011]
