I'm going to start with saying that, Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor is a very FUN game. The gameplay is solid; you're either cutting through ranks of Uruks, or brainwashing them, and making them do your bidding. The story is gripping and you feel a true attachment to some of the characters. The most common problem with this game is the fact that it was intended as a Next-Gen release, and they ported it down to sell more copies. This becomes relevant in the atrocious load times and the hundreds of texture loading errors. Every time you enter a menu, you have to wait through a 30 second (at least) load time. When you switch menus, another 30 secs. Exiting. 30 seconds. The most tragic thing about this is the fact that you're constantly entering and exiting menus. If you're going to be buying this game, I recommend getting it on a next-gen console, or the PC. Expand

I played this game for 50 hours on 360. Had a blast. If you can get this game cheap and have no intention of getting a next gen console you will have a lot of fun despite the menu and graphics and other glitches which MAY get patched. To my own surprise I picked up a XBO in the recent Sales and got a copy of this on XBO for just 19.99 new (I also traded my 360 copy in for 3/4 of the priceI played this game for 50 hours on 360. The raw gameplay mechanics and so on are just rock solid and I personally really enjoyed them. The nemesis system does seem a little shallow, but is still a lot of fun. (I am only 15 hours into the next gen nemesis system however). The building blocks for this game are solid, really good license to. Just needs polish, more rewards for completing side missions (either discount to upgrade costs or unlocking skins etc) and I am looking forward to DLC / sequel. I will do a XBO review but think an 8 is a shoe in. 7 is a little overly generous for the 360 version but on the assumption you pay 25-20 or less I think most would agree with the logic. Expand

The story is interesting but not gripping. The combat is the same as a Batman: Arkham game (Build up a kill streak, and perform a finisher). The graphics is bad, there is massive lag in the refresh rate, you are often climbing up a solid colour, no bricks and wood panels in sight.

I think this game deserves a better score than the current one... Yeah, it's slow, but I am having a great time completing the secondary missions, getting all the collectibles and following the main plot. I have one complaint, though, it is not original, it's basically a Prototype meets Assassin's Creed in Mordor. I love those video games anyway so it isn't bad for me, I would label that as lazy.

MESM is defiantly meant for next gen load times are unbearable worse than skyrim or oblivion and when you load the map textures dont always load right away completely so you have blurry enemys and blurry pieces of land everywhere and the voice acting is great but not the the mouth movement when the enemy is talking when you encounter a warcheif or captain there mouth stands still for the most part while there voice still continues. THe game can be laggy at times but for putting a next gen game on last gen its not all to bad its still a better port then BO3, but the combat in MESM is a great batman style beat em up combat but it lags and becomes excruciating and you just want the fight to end. Over okay port pretty decent story Amazing combat fun gameplay not very fun though on xbox 360 this is Defiantly a title enjoyed on xbox one not last gen sadly Expand

Notwithstanding the many technical issues my 360 release had, I simply just wasn't interested or invested in the game or story. I do think having a more powerful console/hardware could've helped the technical issues but I thought the game was a stale and uninspired world with a few interesting concepts but was banking too hard on the good name of Lord of the Rings.

I thought the combat mechanics were definitely intriguing and the world building happening was quite fascinating at times but the world in which the characters inhabit feel bland and uninteresting. The open-world format also lends itself overwhelming paralysis where the player doesn't quite have enough information to know really where to go or what to do. What's worse, it feels so open that you really don't know why you're doing anything in the first place and by the time you do grasp what's going, it's too late to make an informed decision.

Open-world games can absolutely be done well by the beginning of Skyrim for instance, doesn't overwhelm the player with "options" too soon but the more you explore, the more places you can go. It remains focused in the beginning while you're understanding the game and gradually opens the game up to you once you're confident and knowledgeable enough.

This game could've benefited from a more focused approach near the beginning and had a gradual opening as you became more oriented and progressed.

While I had my fair share of gripes, the story isn't bad. It's got great moments and a compelling premise but due to its lack of focus, the power of the story sometimes feels lost.
