It takes a bit of getting used to, as most puzzlers of this kind are, but before long you’re rocking and rolling with it. And your friends and family might not be able to pry it out of your hands until you drop from exhaustion.
-
A thrillingly-fast paced puzzle game that should appeal to everyone. It provides an enthralling experience, but at a steep price point.
-
There’s definitely room for AAA-level downloadable content on Live, and whether you pay $15 or $30 for Lumines, it remains one of the best games of 2005 and 2006 and a must-play. If you're a puzzle nut, this is manna from heaven.
-
In relation to the other titles on the Live Arcade, it's a high price, but this is a game that you'll be coming back to months down the line, making it an essential download.
-
Sadly, Lumines Live's interesting but misplaced focus on microtransactions hurts its value, and thus, kills the very legitimate shot it had at perfection.
-
The best Arcade game currently [10/19/06] available for download. It’s still good value; even if it’s one of the highest priced Xbox Live arcade out there, and with the additional content planned, it’ll be a while before you drain all the enjoyment out of this one.
-
Lumines is a great puzzler that puts the other old and tired puzzle games on XBL Arcade to shame.
-
Official Xbox MagazineYou might want to resist, and you might mind coughing up the extra change, but you're bound to be hopelessly and happily addicted to what is truly a great puzzler. [Oct. 2006, p.78]
-
Lumines Live is expensive, and isn’t without its problems, but it’s still one of the best things you’ll play on Live Arcade.
-
While the microtransaction and digital distribution models are in their infancy and still need some time for the market to straighten them out, the actions taken by the likes of EA (for charging money for uniforms, stadiums, and cheats in their sports games, all which are usually free) and now the makers of Lumines cannot be tolerated.
-
As long as you go into the game knowing that you’re going to be spending 1800 points ($22.50) to get the entire experience, you won’t be disappointed once you get the entire package.
-
An incarnation of one of the greatest modern puzzle games, Lumines Live offers everything the original had and more, including new modes, new skins and, most importantly, the same great gameplay — that is to say, if you purchase all the add-ons.
-
It pains me to give a Lumines game a score in the 7's. I'm one of the biggest Lumines fans around, yet the cost and method of delivering the game is completely unsatisfactory and I simply can't give it the higher score that I want to.
-
With that said, though, Lumines Live is still a fun game. It has something none of the other versions will have in the expandability. However, the wrong direction has been taken by forcing you to “buy” the extra modes.

SteveS.Feb 10, 2007The criticisms over price are unfounded as its actually cheaper than the PSP versions. A perfect game.
-
MarkH.Jan 10, 2007Just not much fun, feels like it should have been and I can't put my finger on why not, it just isn't.
