The quintessential Halo experience, somehow without Master Chief. Honestly, I beat Halo 3 on Heroic, played the multi-player for a couple of weeks and forgot about it. With Reach, I love the characters and the story (a first for the Halo series, I don't even remember what happened in 2 or 3), the graphics and controls are top notch and the enemy AI and combat design has been perfected to what makes Halo...well, Halo. The rock paper scissors of Weapon vs. Melee vs. Grenade makes the multi-player combat infinitely fun, and of course the awesome vehicles are just icing on the cake.

The only complaint I have is, there aren't enough Invasion maps! I didn't care for this mode at all during the beta, but after getting into BF:BC2 heavily earlier this year, it's now become my new favorite MP mode. Fortunately the Noble Map Pack (coming out soon!) has at least one new invasion level, though hopefully two of them can be played as such.

Great job Bungie! It's nice to see them leave the series at it's peak, I don't really know how 343 Industries can top Reach, but I hope they can at least come up with something as compelling.

I love this game. It's the Halo ive been waiting for. I liked the plot, especially the set pieces, and the multiplayer is awesome. Forge and Firefight are pro and the entire system has been changed for the better.

The final Halo game from Bungie is a marked improved over their previous efforts. With an engaging campaign and an incredibly polished suite of multiplayer game modes, Bungie has created the most polished Halo title to date. Any fan of the FPS genre who owns a 360 should give this game a shot.

To say Halo: Reach lives up to expectations would be a dramatic understatement. It exceeds them. I thought Halo 3 was a relatively packed and deep game, but Reach has the kind of customization options and variables that change the game going for it, that it's almost like playing a PC game with access to mods. You can do anything, you can change anything, you can build anything. Seeing that one of the developers made Pinnacle/Ascension from Halo 2 with the Forge World tools is impressive, but seeing the active community make The Pit, Hang 'Em High, Beaver Creek, other remade maps, and some mind-blowing original maps...it's astounding. Forge in Halo 3 was good, but there needed to be an excessive amount of time and a certain level of creative thinking to do something with it. Forge World on the other hand, is a brilliant canvas that can bring any of your ideas for a map to life without having to try too hard.

Bungie makes Halo games to be played for years on end. That is literally the design goal for them. That goal has been achieved with every main series entry of Halo, and people will be playing Reach a long time from now. On the first day alone, 9 million games were played online. The changes to the ranking system allows players to enjoy the game and keep playing no matter what playlist or mode they are active in. The Commendations give those extra little goals to strive for, and the Challenges, weekly and daily, give players a reason to check in on the game whenever they can and always have something new to do. It's all the little things that count in making the online experience much deeper. Things like the Active Roster, things like being able to take three friends online with me for the ride, and things like sending out a Hologram that someone shoots at for three seconds before he realizes he's made an oops, and then I come behind him with my shotgun and deliver my fantastic chiropractic abilities at the end of the barrel.

The campaign is great. Personally, I expected a bit more based around the events of the Fall of Reach, but what we got was good. Reach tells a story of war, and the sacrifice that comes with it. It starts out feeling very cookie cutter to be honest, but as it progresses, the overlying feeling of intensity increases. The set pieces aren't as epic as people who played the original trilogy may be used to. I remember so many moments from the campaigns in Combat Evolved, Halo 2, and Halo 3, and the only real lasting memories of Reach's campaign are the space battle (which was like another game in itself) and the ending. The last half of that campaign is gripping. The way it closes out is touching.

But as always, what makes Halo above and beyond many other games and the king of it's genre, is the gameplay. The foundation Bungie struck gold with, a fusion of traditional shooter elements fighting over map control and fixed weapon spawns, combined with the unique weapons, physics, vehicles, map design, and new armor abilities. All the fixes the game needed from the beta have been made. Reach is every bit as accessible as the past Halo games. Bungie loads this game up with so much content. There is something for everyone if you are willing to take the time to find it, and everything for someone open-minded enough to appreciate quality game design. All of the new modes are fun. Team Stockpile and Team Headhunter is surprisingly intense and enjoyable. The new Arena playlist is groundbreaking and a genius idea. They have taken Halo, taken a few little qualities from other series and fused them without compromising the core of the game and the roots it was built upon. Halo: Reach is a fantastic example of how to keep something going. It isn't a franchise, it's a phenomenon.

Multiplayer, well it has been revamped completely with the addition of the new armour abilities that make an impact on the battlefield, the game modes however have stayed relatively the same with the exception of the new playlist arena which is Reach's take on MLG. Overall the credit system and ranking up will keep you entertained with the multiplayer for hours on end, the credit system is Reach's currency you use it ti buy things uch as new armour or armour effects and with the challenges which are updated daily and weekly will keep you playing more and more of the game it will even get you playing modes that you don't normally play.

Forge, a welcome return back to the Halo universe with the community already teaming with spectacular inventions that are available to view and download via the file share community. The tools are a lot more professional allowing you to do a lot of crazy things and build some really good maps and with the addition of Forge World you can go in with friends build and have a laugh with this massive map 9/10.

Graphics have changed drastically showing off a more realistic and retro styled Halo which fits seeing as it is a prequel, the sound is good and the face cap is brilliant along with the environment graphics, Reach is the one of the few games I have seen where they have captured dropping rain so perfectly 10/10

This is why I have chosen to give this game a 6, The multiplayer is terrible if not broken. Armor abilities were a good Idea on paper however Armor lock just slows down gameplay, and gives unfair advantage to the person using it (as long as their teammates are somewhat competent). And bloom, a mechanic I thought would benefit the series, has instead shamed it. Rarely do I win a medium range fight when I am pacing my shots, and the other person is firing fast with the DMR. this change in what I've come to know as Halo multiplayer (I played Halo 2 and 3 online) is not good, and in the end just demolishes the competitive side of the game.

The campaign in really good, with lots of diversity in missions. Firefight is back, and Forge has been overhauled so you can make some very imaginative maps in the Forge World. Also you can get ranks and XP offline as well. There's massive character customisation too. If you can imagine changing your spartan or elite, you can do it, and you have to buy these things with XP.

The graphics didn't come across as spectacular, but I was playing on a 46" HDTV so any visual flaws were probably heightened. Also I felt we could have done with some more MP maps, there aren't very many at the moment, and they are all bits from the campaign. Not as interesting as Halo 3's maps. Hope DLCs are on the way.

For this same reason Six's armour is fully customisable, as is his or her gender. One of the best things about the original Halo games was assumming the guise of the Master Chief - the invincible super soldier who always says the most badass things possible at the most oppurtune moments. In Reach, the only person you assume the guise of is yourself - a basically unremarkable gamer with no particularly interesting qualities one way or the other. In fact even if you do have interesting qualities, the time at which they are least on display is when you're sat in front of your games console pretending to be someone more interesting. This basic element in the structure of the game is what killed the campaign for me - the last levels were still pretty good, mostly for nostalgia value, but overall I found the whole ordeal quite underwhelming. I gave Reach an 8 because of everything but its campaign, which is where the -2 comes from. Everything but the campaign is gold. Pure gold. Expand

In my personal opinion it it a solid 10 but I gave it an eight because Bungie made the game less forgiving for new players. I am a huge Call of Duty fan but I must say Halo takes more skill to play. For instance there are no iron sights, you can't pistol head shot someone across the map (If you think you can't in call of duty, youtube it), you must take down shields before you can affect players health, all guns have bloom (ridicule gets larger as shots are fired in rapid succession) whether scoped or not, as well as other differences. This makes halo have a slight steeper learning curve than other brand name shooters on the market. This helps with strategy though. More experienced halo players have more strategies beyond the usual camping, shotgun rushing, etc. One i use is the four shot with the DMR weapon. It takes four shots to the body and one to the head to kill a person. Training yourself to aim for the body for the first three shots then to move to the head for the kill will give you a much higher K/D ratio versus the spamming of the trigger I see inexperienced players doing. The larger element of strategy coupled with the player's unfamiliarity with the halo series puts a lot of new gamers at a disadvantage and inevitably leads to bad reviews. Call of Duty has strategy too, but it comes in the form of customization. Having the counters to the other person's guns, killstreaks, perks, etc. Halo puts everyone on the same playing field and forces them to become better with same the guns the the enemy is using. In conclusion, if you a serious first person shooter gamer looking for a game that has a bit more strategy in the actual gun play rather than the in game customization then Halo Reach is a good buy. Halo Reach Rocks...as good as any FPS on the market, but the lore is what makes the game so special. I think Bungie ended their Halo days on their best note, and deliver one of the best game on the 360.

Halo Reach takes place prior to the events of Halo 1 and although many speculate that this is based off the Novel "Fall of Reach" by Eric Nylund, it is not. In Halo Reach you play as Noble 6, a replacement for a member of Noble team who has died. In the beginning you and the rest of Noble team are dispatched to a relay outpost that has gone dark, under the assumption that insurrectionists are responsible. You soon discover that the covenant are on Reach, and begin a campaign to defend the planet. This review will be done in sections that will cover the entirety of the game modes and content.

First off is the story, as mentioned earlier Halo Reach is a prequel to the series. The games in which you played as the infamous Master Chief sent you on an intergalactic opera slowly cutting down the covenant and always coming out on top. In Halo Reach the story takes place solely on the Planet Reach, a human military stronghold that was home to the Spartan II project. As the Master Chief was in the Spartan II class, Noble 6 is not. Noble team is comprised entirely of Spartan IIIâ

First off: Whoever gave this review under a 7 or over a 9.75 is crazy. They're just fanboys and should not live. I would like to start off saying that I am not basing this review on the originality of the game, I am basing it on how polished it is. However, I will take in account how similar it is to past Halo games.
And similar, it is not...at least not that much. There are still much of the same weapons, but each redone, and a few newbies. The winning gameplay formula is still present, but with a huge addition: armor abilities. I cannot express how much it improves the gameplay; maybe not so much in the campaign, but a lot in the multiplayer. It adds copious amounts of gameplay variation to come into play, and also improves the addiction factor.

As far as campaign goes (clocking in at about 10 hours), it is Bungie's best attempt yet; capturing the feeling of being on a team and enveloping you in a story that is at some moments touching, and at others action-packed and just plain fun. In fact, at some moments, I was so sad, that I cried...inside...not outside cause that would be weird. With a beginning that sucks you in, and a perfectly crafted climax, this campaign is, by far, the best of the Halos.

Unlike past Halo titles, this title does not suffer from the recycling of gameplay sequences; all are different. There is not one place that is identical to another. In fact, in one level, you come across a dance club that has been overrun by 9 or 10 hunters. It was probably the best, if not funniest, gaming atmosphere I have ever been in. Nevertheless, Halo Reach's campaign does have its shortcomings. For instance, there are some frame-rate issues that can diminish some parts of the game. It almost seems that the new graphics (and they are great) and what is happening can't keep up with the game's engine. However, this does not really fade the overall experience.

Apart from the campaign, there are numerous other game modes and and extras. Some of them include Theater, Forge, Character Customization, Firefight, and On and Offline Multiplayer. Theater is not unlike other Halo's, however it is easier to interact with.

Forge is almost completely redone, featuring an expansive user-friendly interface, and a massive world made entirely for forge.

Character customization is, again, completely redone. You can customize any and every part of your spartan through the purchase of parts by credits, which you earn by doing anything at all, be it forge or campaign or multiplayer. Also, your character model is present in both single and multi-player.

Firefight has finally met its potential in Reach, featuring numerous options and modes. Furthermore, there is a matchmaking option to firefight, which was absent in ODST.

Finally, there is multiplayer which is the without-a-doubt the best in the series. There is a lot more replayablity and strategy in this game than previous games. The armor abilities really add that extra feature that was seemingly absent from Halo 3. Furthermore, there is also a feature-filled stat tracker system that tracks any stat you could possibly imagine, be it from the campaign or the multiplayer. It even shows your service record from previous games.

Overall, this feature-rich, almost perfectly polished is a must-buy for Halo and multiplayer fans alike. Besides the minor foul-ups, this game is well deserving of every bit of praise it has received and will be played for years to come.

Graphics: 9.5 Once again, Bungie is at the apex of the Xbox graphics.
Gameplay: 10 A winning gameplay formula is furthermore improved by armor abilities, among other things.
Replayabilty: 9 As with all multiplayer games, it is infinately replayable. However, the campaign is always better the first time.
Story: 9.5 Involving, fun, well-paced, well-told, and a decent length.
Presentation: 10 An innovative menu system further improves an otherwise, almost flawless presentation.

And there it is, a Halo Reach review as told by a 16 year old.

Halo: Reach was like beating a dead horse, but then the horse reared up and turned into Optimus Prime, then fell apart into a heap of metal. Disappointing beginning, strong middle and an ending which didn't seem worthy of the incredible things that the SPARTAN soldiers accomplish during the series. Rent.

Firefight is pretty fun though it got old relatively fast for me. Back to the competitive multiplayer, I have a few problems with it. For one, the maps are just horrible, there's no other way to twist it, they even managed to turn Blood Gulch into an often unbalanced map. The spawns are atrocious on most maps, contending with Modern Warfare 2 with some of the worst I've encountered, spawning on grenades, taking two steps and getting assassinated, the list goes on. The weapons, love some hate some. I never knew I liked the BR from past games until I picked up the DMR, not that it's much of a problem because they brought back the original pistol, which more than often outdoes the DMR. Sniping seems almost too easy, like the hit boxes are bigger than the should be, i really don't know. Most other weapons won't wow you, but you probably won't hate them either, I won't going into talking about all of them. Now, armor abilities, these can be super annoying or just... there. It seems like people on forums have called every armor ability from sprint, to drop shield, jet pack, and armorlock noobish. I won't delve far into my own opinion on the matter but will say this is the main deal breaker for me. Not to mention the mere fact that people have called every ability but roll, noobish, shows that it was just a bad idea to implement them. I wouldn't call them noobish, but each does give you a cheap way to kill or avoid death. All the joys of splattering and sticking are gone with the chance someone could have armorlock, sprinting with the sword is viewed as a cheap tactic, dealing with cloakers is plain annoying. It really does just cause problems, but I feel for people looking for a more casual multiplayer it could be enjoyable, but I've gone back to Halo 3 already. In all honestly I call it a renter, you can blow through campaign in not too long, but if you end up liking the multiplayer, buy it. Expand

Before you read anything, you should know that I've played all of the Halo games (with the exception of ODST [who the hell wants to be an ODST over a SPARTAN?]), and quickly lost interest in Halo 3.

That being said, while no game is perfect, Halo: Reach is as close as it gets. All of the negative reviews that say the campaign is horrible, I ask "why?" Yes, it's a little short, but it tells a great story with some of the most memorable moments out of any Halo game - and since when have we bought Halo games for the campaign alone. The multiplayer is the real treat and that is where Reach delivers most. To all of the negative reviewers saying the gameplay feels dated, what did you expect? Call of Duty-style gameplay? And that's not to say that the gameplay is dated - it's Halo - the same Halo gameplay we've come to love over the years, with the addition of guns actually having accuracy, among a few other things. To call Reach's gameplay dated would be like saying MW2's gameplay feels dated in relation to MW - it's practically the same game (with a few additions), so of course the gameplay will be practically the same. And yes, all of the unlocks are for looks only, but I like that opposed to games like MW2 where people are at a great advantage over you just for being higher level than you, since they have more (if not all) of the guns, perks, and attachments unlocked. OMG ONE MAN ARMY, DANGER CLOSE, NINJA FTW! (not!). It gives people a much more level playing field. Some people want super-realism in their shooters (COD) and others want strategy and teamwork (Halo). I've gotten so burnt out on MW2 over the last year because of all of the hackers, modders, tenth prestige lobby spammers, not to mention the noob-tubers who kill you across the map without even trying. Yet in less than a month after this game came out, Bungie already banned 15k people for using a credit exploit. Compare that to the year that MW2 has been out and neither Infinity Ward nor Activision has done a damn thing about the hackers and modders that plague that game. At least Bungie cares about their community and the people who buy their games - Activision just wants your money, plain and simple.

This game, as all Halo games, is also colorful - a welcomed break from the brown and green of your super-realistic shooters. Even some of the positive reviews say Reach's graphics are lacking, but I'd have to disagree with that as well. Anyone who says Reach's graphics look old are probably playing split-screen (which greatly hinders the graphics) and not full screen, in all its glory. This game supports something like four times the amount of polygons that Halo 3 did and twice as many particle effects that Halo 3 did. Or maybe people who say Reach's graphics are dated aren't playing on an HDTV, who knows.

All I know is that if you've been a fan of Halo in the past, Reach is a must buy. If you haven't been a fan of Halo in the past, Reach probably won't impress you. But that's always how Halo has been - you either love it or you hate it.

One last thing, to anyone saying that you're trading in Reach for Black Ops: Please do. Go enjoy your hacked/modded/noob-tube game with zero support from the developers. You won't be missed. Black Ops is also made by Treyarch, the geniuses who made the completely imbalanced, poor excuse for a COD game, World at War. Enjoy.

Examples- If you melee someone in the back they usually won't die. Now you must assassinate them by holding down the melee button, but you will be a sitting duck while you finish the enemy off. The rocket launcher locks on again and there are now many ways to take out those pesky wraiths/scorpions. Forge is now a place where you can actually build maps with ease. Firefight has expanded and now has many ways to customize how the weapons and rules of the fight. weapons have been slightly changed to balance out the game. The good ol' magnum from halo 1 is back. The DMR(long range rifle) has replaced the old black rifle. The game adds the revenant, a cross between a ghost and a wraith(replaced the chopper). The game adds the falcon, a giant helicopter that can carry your team(replaced the hornet). New power-ups are now chosen just before the match starts and can be used any time in the match.

Well, that's enough to give you the idea of the change. I could go on, but it would be pointless. The halo haters new "thing" with reach is to say it's the same ol' halo. Well, let me just say this is the biggest change in a halo game ever. It is so much more than halo 3 that it's amazing they didn't mess the game up. Don't get me wrong though. Halo fans will like the changes. WHY I GAVE IT A 9....
There are two reasons I give halo a nine and not a ten.
    1. The single player didn't impress me. It reminded me of ODST's single player, which I didn't like.

In fact i felt it went backwards in many ways. Starting out with the first Halo I remember all the good and fun times i actually had playing on legendary difficult with my friends.None of that here cuz Nearly every single attack is an instant death in this game from heroic-Legendary difficulty. ''Oh Look a drop ship!'' it shoots me and bam dead in one hit. As i said NEARLY Everything in the campaign is a one hit kill on you.I can not tell you how many times i died, Just from random explosions that were not even near me. I guess their idea of fun is to have players die 500 times in one level. The AI is horrible. Your fellow noble 6 spartan teammates can't even make a descent meat shield with their invincibility. I actually think they made the human/spartan AI dumber, While the covenant AI is actually smarter as they always know to dodge my grenades. OH let me talk about the weapons. They took away some of the weapons i love and replaced them with garbage versions. Nearly every single weapon has been Nerfed in some way (downgraded). The plasma grenade for instance will not kill the stronger elites even if you stick it to them, They will be left with a lot of shield power still left. Only weapon that actually seems stronger is the sniper rifle as it kills all vehicles in two hits. The rocket launcher is almost useless at medium to long range against vehicles because they took away the lock-on for all ground vehicles. Now for multiplayer, Every time i set my game options to find the game with the ''Best Connection''. What does it do? It brings me to the laggiest game It could find. On top of that the community is just as bad as ever...All they do is curse and use strong/hateful insults towards other players. Really? Where is the teamwork... The fact that I can not pick what map i want in firefight if i do matchmaking just makes it worse. Your team has to vote on either Regular firefight, Gen Defense, Or Sniper/Rocket launcher game. And it KEEPS MAKING ME PLAY THE EXACT SAME MAPS OVER AND OVER AGAIN. I know there are others but it will only let me play them by myself. So really when i wanna play a free for all slayer, I am not allowed to choose that. It will either throw me into an infection game, Which i hate every much, or a skull collection game. I can't even play juggernaut! I mean really this game is incredibly boring. It forces you to play something you don't want to. Only Reason I gave it a 1 was because i have been playing Halo since 2001. Jeez the game has just gone downhill after Halo 1 which is a masterpiece in my opinion. The best game in the entire series. This is a great installment to the Halo games. Anyone who disagrees probably just doesn't appreciate the formula, which can be just as intense as COD with next to no frustration factor. I really don't understand the low user reviews here, I guess this is what happens when you let idiots who aren't experienced reviewers rate games!

Never been a big fan of Halo to be honest - to me it's one of those franchises that everyone seems to love but I can't for the life of me understand why. However - even I must admit that this one is pretty good. Yes the campaign story is bloated and up it's own *** as usual - but there is absolutely no faulting the multiplayer - which is great fun I must say.

Terrible AI. No squad control, AI teammates do not fire their guns, and teammates step in front of live fire. Terrible story. Cut scenes are slow and dumb. Mission successes are devalued by cutscenes, if you rescue a group under attack they die in the cutscene. No matter how you succeed in gameplay, your victory is revoked by cutscene.

But now, as a sterling star to guide through the night, Halo Reach has delivered. I'm not a big fan of the Halo series, or the CoD series, but I will say this is one of this years best FPS's. Reach delivers a tale of Noble squad, a group of Spartans ordered with protecting the planet Reach from the Covenant invasion. Of course, if you know your Halo lore you know how this story will end, but as a good person once told me, "Sometimes it's about the journey to the end that matters most, not the ending itself." And boy, what a journey. By the end of the game, you will feel like you've actually connected with the other Spartans of Noble, but then again character development still isn't that good. The ending is great, showcasing a feat of valor and sacrifice that tops off the Reach story greatly. An amazing feature is the ability to customize the look of your Spartan, for both single-player and multi-player. And multi-player now has armor abilities instead of powerups, like a jetpack or sprint ability, though the bubble-shield makes a cool appearance. If you like FPS's or any of the Halo games, this is for you. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'll start off by saying i'm far from a Halo fan boy, far from it. But i do enjoy the games. They didn't need to change much of the core mechanic as they got it pretty much right from the off, and i bet to those complainers about it feeling to like the first or second, if they changed it radically, you'd all complain. Anyway, the changes they have made are mainly to the weapons, they feel a lot better than Halo 3/3:ODST, although i don't see the point in the DMR, its a glorified pistol, it doesn't sit in between the Assault Rifle and the pistol, but swinging more to the pistol. In my opinion, they should have kept the burst fire. The single player was fun and frustrating on Legendary but you'd expect it to be. And possibly one of the greatest mechanics in any game, if you die many times after a dodgy checkpoint, it reverts you back to the previous checkpoint. The story though is pretty flat. Its basically another invasion story, the Planet Reach is under attack by the Covenant, and you part of a group of spartans called Noble Team, realise the inevitability of the conflict. Because of this and the lack of lone wolf element to 1-3 (bar ODST), you do grow close to your squad mates as they perish one by one. Multiplayer is standard Halo. I'm not good at it, but it can be fun at times, more playing the right way, than your way, unless your way is the right way, but then that might not be as fun. Firefight is expanded further from ODST and is a lot of fun, with, or without teammates and allows me to level up online, without getting exceeding frustrated by playing *with* people who are better than me, rather than against. Finally the matchmaking system is still by far better than any other first person shooter has. They haven't seemed to change it on the surface since Halo 2 and theres a reason why. Expand

This game is a treat to play its a totally polished version of the halo brand and this is its downfall, for non hardcore halo gamers this is just halo 3 polished which in turn was halo 2 polished, the campaign has got worse and worse since halo 2 and that wasn't amazing either. Although I'm saying its not an amazing campaign its not a bad one and here lies Reaches major problem, for me its good, even great but its not amazing and its not a big enough step forward and this has been my feeling of all the halo games since 2.

    Multi-Player.
This again is the same its great it does what halo does best online multiplayer but there is a flaw all the maps that people were shouting for in halo 3 and were told they didn't want to re do them, well guess what they've turned up in either a full map or a forge variant. Now this is good but some of the best halo 3 maps are missing!?

They should of picked the best maps from halo 1 - 3 but I'm sure the majority are well aware it likely to be in DLC not sure how but I'm sure its going to happen.

Overall a good game but only buy if you truly love halo if your not a huge lover I'd look elsewhere

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Okay, let me be the one to set things straight in this dumpster of a user review section. This game is very good in almost every way, save for a very few points. The graphics, while not being completely cutting edge, are still acceptable (somewhere around a COD MW2 level), and truly only come out in the background scenery, which at many times can be simply gorgeous and striking. The Orchestral Score is by far one of the best I have ever heard in any game, only realizing halfway through a level that, "Hey! This music really suits this level, and sounds good!" The plot is somewhat predictable, since you know that every member of Noble Team will die at one point or another, but the storytelling is rather good, and presents it in an only sometimes clear fashion (I'm still not exactly clear how Jun dies). Each mission of the unbearably short campaign is extremely varied and very fun to play, and the additions of the Sabre, MAC Cannon, and the entire level based around flying a falcon all add to the general feel of the game. The emotion of only being a small part of a large battle is ever prevalent, and only breaks at the very end of the game. This game, unlike every other Halo game, surprisingly does not suffer from the one horrible level syndrome (ex. Halo 3 - Cortana). The enemy AI is surprisingly, and almost frustratingly smart; uncannily knowing exactly when they're in your crosshairs. The multiplayer is also varied. The new armor abilities DO change the game significantly, and the new game modes and surprisingly large maps all are very exciting to play on, providing a completely different take on the entire battle the next game, forcing you to change your style of play entirely. The Theater function returns, stronger than ever, along with a newly revamped Firefight mode (now with matchmaking!). The Forge tool is very user-friendly when doing the simple effects, but completely changing a map or creating your own requires a significant input of time and effort, but can be immensely rewarding. My complaints of this game are few, but significant if playing on a harder difficulty. I first played through on Normal, and am currently on "The Package" level on Legendary difficulty, and my frustrations are obvious if you've ever played the game. Through all of the Halo games, Bungie has failed to get one thing right: checkpoints. Forcing me to respawn at a point where I have little ammo, no health, and surrounded by enemy vehicles over and over again until it finally hops me back to the previous checkpoint which I received a half hour gameplay time before the other is simply aggravating. If you are a a mediocre Halo player (like I am), you will find yourself taking 2+ hours to complete one level on Legendary difficulty, which, if I may add, has to be done Solo in order to earn the 150-point achievement. My one other complaint is the friendly AI. While I despise player-controlled AI teammates, I would have been fine with it if it had cut down the number of my deaths caused by being run over by my own Warthog or being driven into a swarm of enemies. That being said, the ability to have AI on your "fireteam" is a nice addition, even if they are extremely weak and die within 15 seconds of joining you. This is certainly Bungie's best Halo game, and I am satisfied and happy that they are moving on to do bigger, and hopefully better things. For anyone who actually bothered to read this entire review, I thank you. Finally, to all of the reviewers that gave this game a 0-5 rating: 1. Get the game and play it for yourself. 2. Judge it as its own game, and don't complain about not having features that the other games did, such as dual-wielding. Only master chief and the Elites are that adept at firearms, and is not a relevant point for this game. This is certainly my favorite game currently, and I will be playing for many weeks straight most likely. After my love-hate relationship with the campaign, I will fully enjoy the multiplayer for all it's worth. I hope everyone has fun with this game, and that they will actually get it. Expand

Halo Reach is an odd game. As almost anyone will tell you, people either go nuts for it or they will go to any lengths to tarnish its name, regardless of how good the game may or may not be. I for one have never been a Halo 'fan-boy' and after playing and completing the game, still am not. But that's not to say it's not a good, if at times, great game.

Let's start with the campaign. Against my usually better judgement and gaming preference, I actually bought Halo Reach almost entirely for the multi-player element. I did not expect much from the campaign and knew it would be all too short - which usually irks me; I like an engrossing game which I can get my money's worth from. I am pleased to say however that the campaign undertaken alone is not a let-down and unlike some un-mentionables (Resident Evil 5), is not infuriating to play with AI companions alone. It is frantic, difficult in the extreme, epic and most importantly meaningful. I never found myself thinking, "Iâ

Gameplay is THE SAME of Halo Combact Evolved, this could be a good aspect for someone, but not for me. The introduction of Armor Abilities is only a minor addition (most of them are useless).
Physics engine feels very very old, very little as changed from Halo CE.
Vehicles seem weightless and without friction with the ground.
Squad members AI is very bad (bots are unable to drive, they do not search for protection and shoot a bit to an enemy and a bit to another one, killing only 2-3 enemies out of 10).
Noble team members are not deep characters, they have no secrets, hidden weaknesses, a background story ... so we do not become attached to them.
Even the soundtrack is not so good as in the other Halos.
Campaign is very boring on the first half, then it has an improvement from mission 5.
    Multiplayer is excellent as usual.
Concluding, I can say that Halo reach is a sort of Halo 3 with minor addition and better graphics (but not so impressive), there are no important innovations, short and boring half campaign, banal characters, bad squad members AI, old physics engine, unchanged gameplay.

I would have given 7.5 to Halo Reach, but since as many people have given wrongly 10, I am forced to compensate giving 5.

The ally AI is better at combat, but not that great at driving. The Covenant AI is so much better, especially bringing the Elites back as the main enemy was the perfect idea that makes the Covenant terrifying aliens again. Now the story, which I find to be the strongest Halo story to date, it's also the easiest to follow since the original. You play as Noble Six, the newest member of an elite team of Spartans named Noble Team who are sent to investigate a disturbance at a relay outpost where local Insurrectionists are suspected. Noble Team then discovers that the Covenant are on Reach. The games begins as a few small skirmishes to full out war. I loved the sense of desperation and hope, and tragedy, no matter what happens, you know the plant will fall. The characters are outstanding and the dialogue is spot on. Now the rest of the game is just as good. Firefight, which was introduced back in Halo 3: ODST which you and 4 other players would fight against waves of Covenant. Now in Halo: Reach, Firefight has Matchmaking and custom options, which allows you make Firefight in your own way. Now Multiplayer, is the best Halo multiplayer to date. The custom games have so many more options than Halo 3. Now Forge, which was introduced in Halo 3 allowed you to make your own maps, now in Halo: Reach Forge is so much better than Halo 3's Forge. The best map to use Forge if Forge World, which is a massive map where you can make any map you want. Halo: Reach is not only a prequel to the 1st Halo, Bungie takes the best of all the past Halo games, and puts them in Halo: Reach. Overall this game has not let me at all. This is the perfect way for Bungie to say goodbye to the Halo franchise. Expand

The missions are fun and mix it up enough so you dont get bored in the games 8-10 hour long story. This is the most difficult Halo game yet, with smarter A.I and the health pack system from Halo:ODST. Then there is firefight mode. The upgrade here is huge, you can now change the settings to optimize your experience as you see fit. Do you want to fight nothing but grunts with rocket launchers an gravity hammers? Go right ahead! The options are endless, and you can take on the challenges of both the story an firefight with 4 player co-op. Multiplayer is still really fun, and more skill based then ever. The multiplayer experience has only gotten better over time, even if some of the company you might meet are still the biggest 'tards you'd ever have the misfortune to be forced to play with. I just feel the campaign side of things has taken a backseat in the last couple of games to the series' stronger points.
Halo Reach surprised me. This is quite possibly the most solid shooter in the series I've played, perhaps, ever. I generally had fun doing stuff other then watching the cutscenes. The story is engaging, the gameplay challenging and the pacing is just right. The campaign is short, but there is so much to the halo experience these days, you won't mind. Overall, I was happy. Calculating one average User Score is hard when a game has so much hype (like Halo Reach), you get lots of fanboys, haters, and more than average "it must be better than I thought" reviewers, so I applied some math to level the playing field. Firstly, Halo Reach doesn't deserve less than 2/10 from anybody (it works, has reasonable content, and is not overly expensive), so I removed those scores to eliminate obvious hate reviews. Secondly, a lot of reviewers are biased toward hype (whether they realise it or admit it or not). So for a game like Halo Reach some fanboys just think "Yeah! 10/10", some reviewers think "The critics say it's awesome, so I think I should score it 9/10", and then some think "I thought it was pretty good but lots of people say it is fantastic so maybe I missed the fine details, so instead of a 7 I'll give it an 8". I adjusted each user score proportionately to eliminate hype at the "top end" of the scale. What is left are scores that give a more objective indication of the user score. In mathematical jargon each user score is weighted inversely proportional to the matching critic score. My view: Halo Reach is a good solid game but not innovative nor cutting edge. I score it 8/10. This game is simply the worst Halo game ever made. Even ODST was better then this trash. Without comparing this game to previous installments, its a pretty solid game. But the story is horribly bad, and everything else is a straight up rip-off of Halo 3. If you are thinking about buying this game, you should only borrow it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Funny that we live in a world of Halo now. The original Halo formula of carrying only two weapons, a dedicated grenade throwing and melee button, and shields instead of health packs lives on in every first person shooter. Think Call of Duty doesn't have recharging shields, just hide behind a dumpster for a few seconds while you magically heal yourself. All these games are just Halo without the colorful environments and aliens. Halo Reach is a little bit of a step back. The shields are not as strong and health packs are placed sparingly. I liked the grace period offered by Halo 2 and 3 better. Also missing are dual wielding weapons. Dual wielding also took a back seat to using the Battle Rifle, but this had more to do hiding behind cover at a distance than the fun factor of laying down a torrent of fire. Another oddity, a Scarab - the giant walking armored battle bug - returns but you don't fight it. I feel like the game misses out on a few hero moments like fighting the Scarab or singlehandedly storming an alien bunker.

Halo: Reach trades those hero moments for teamwork. You don't lead you term so much as shoot in close vicinity to them. It is definitely a trade off. You need to work with them but you can't really work with them. I was never a fan of having to set way points for my team as if they were bots - and lets be clear here, they are bots - but a little direction would be nice. Just a simple "stop" so I can trade weapons with them would do the trick.

All the criticism is moot, this is Bungie's last Halo game. Moreover, the game is great. I was taken back to the fun of "Assault on the Control Room" many times. The pacing and weapons are great. The space portion was so good I could play a whole game that way, and in fact did in the old X-Wing and Tie Fighter days. The last level is epic not in scope but in emotional impact. Stranded on a planet overcome by the Covenant, all you have left to do is fight to your death. After 4 Halo games here the protagonists live, this game shows you how perilous the fight is, how finishing the fight required a sacrifice of life.

I just couldn't get into it but it is so much better now that it's almost all I play. Forge has had a major update which makes it so much easier to use. But that's the problem; multiplayer. It's hard to describe but it's just not as fun as Halo 3. They killed all of my favourite custom games like Sacrifice as you can't splatter enemies when damage is turned off. They removed VIP for some reason which means no more Rocket Race. And finally, the maps. The majority of them are just plain bad. But even still, the multiplayer is awesome in it's own way and I'm gonna have a lot of fun with it. Perfect campaign, firefight is a huge step-up from ODST and multiplayer is still pretty fun. I have yet to play through the campaign of this newest release by Bungie, however the multiplayer is exceptional, nearly every aspect of the game has been polished to a fine shine (even gravity changes as you move through different maps!).

i highly recommend you buy this game, or at least rent it. you wont be disappointed, however this is NOT a COD game, the game dynamics, and play style

Reach's' story ties up some lose ends in the beginning of the series, and had an enjoyable and memorable cast of characters and experiences. All in all Bungie out did themselves on Reach

Reach has a few problems though, as all high content games do. Sacrifices are made of course and some things cant be fixed. Reach's' new forge controls are a little disappointing due to less free movement of the object and camera during placement. Reach had a few quirks in its friendly AIs, and also, due to high frame-rates, many gamers are experiencing 'simulator sickness' or motion blur. Reach's' graphics are a bit dated but have a very high particle and detail level. Id like to address some ignorance within reviews. Many people criticized Reach as being a money cow and nothing more. People don't understand that the game's developers make very little money on projects, no matter how well they sell. Microsoft gets the profit because its a publisher and is responsible for Reach's sale. Reach is Bungie's creation, not Microsoft's. Just thought Id point that out, because it seems people fail to understand the industry and market when it comes to games. In the end it breaks down to great reviews or hater reviews, and that's all I'm seeing. And the hater reviews make poor arguments, as well as pointing out moot points that it would seem no one cares about. Lets let the reviews be real and heart felt. Not full of stupidity and hate. Everything is well done from the story to the multiplayer. Add in a new ranking system and unlockables and a revamped Forge mode and BLAM! you have the deepest and most rich offering of Halo ever conceived. So why isn't this game a perfect 10? Because the formula hasn't changed enough to give long-time fans something fresh enough, and while this may be Bungie's last entry into the FPS universe, at least as far as Halo in concerned, this likely isn't the last we've seen of Halo (the franchise is too big to just end right now, expect something in 2012 from Microsoft Game Studios, who own Halo).

In a mix where games like Mordern Warfare 2, Medal of Honor, Gears of War, Crysis and others are setting high bars and delivering more blistering action through robust campaigns and multiplayer, Halo simply isn't the sole king of the multiplayer universe. While Halo: Reach is fun and offers moments of fresh content and new takes on multiplayer (Invasion and Arena are nice touches), what you will notice after you've dropped your first 30 hours into the game is that it just doesn't hold your attention like it once did. Gamers new to the Halo scene will find this game absolutely mind-blowing, but you can bet 90% of the gamer population have ridden this bike before, and they can feel the need for change.

So if you were hoping for a complete reboot of the series... you may or may not find it here. I was definitely hoping for a super epic story & campaign run-through with a fully-fleshed out online experience that would borrow from the ideas of games like Modern Warfare or Battlefield 2. While you can definitely tell Bungie took a couple pages from opposing playbooks, they certainly didn't rewrite them to the point that Reach could bust out of the era of exceptional online games and stand as its own king like it did back in 2000. 10 years has made Halo fully realized, but one might think that while there is plenty to love here, there isn't plenty to keep you coming back for more and more like it once did. Halo 2 was likely the high point of online matchmaking. It was a first for the series and broke the doors open for Xbox Live. Reach, however, won't find a high sustained population of Xbox Live players like the series once did.

The competition has nearly caught up, and what remains to be seen is whether Halo will ultimately be remembered as the game that once changed gaming history, or whether it will continue to reshape the game industry of tomorrow and be the cornerstone of which other developers build upon as our technology advances and the possibilities truly become limitless.

Call of Duty gave us iron sights, Crysis gave us innovative armor abilities, and so on. Halo Reach's main innovation is the ability to sprint. For a game being released in 2010 this is unacceptable. Reach really offers nothing new beyond slightly more polished graphics. The storytelling is still a mess, the team-mate AI is pathetic, and the game really offers nothing new or innovative. At best Reach is a mediocre to decent fps that has gained such success from its name and from the millions of dollars spent on marketing and hyping the product. If you bought the hype, beleived the hype, and eventually had the hype convince you its the greatest game ever then good for you. All of this however, has now been fixed. Gameplay is incredible smooth (i finnaly have the feeling im controlling the character instead of trying to push a floating object around, this game feels more direct and faster than any halo). Also, because of the new options for jetpacks, stealth, armor lock, etc. Much more tactics are possible, because of the jetpack, close combat weapons are less overpowered, and rockets kan finnaly be evaded by skilled players, however it has been balanced as such that when flying, you take more damage, so skillful players who can actually aim can kill you in no time, and when you become invisble because of stealth, you become deaf, so you can be backstabbed easily yourself, and cant hear were the fighting is. Singleplayer is more of the same, but just with smoother gameplay, and the jetpack allows some new memorable sections. The story is much more human and intelligent, like in ODST. So just small improvements here, nothing spectacular.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I bought this game thinking i'd give halo a final shot after playing halo 3 and feeling disapointed mainly by a bad ending. I didn't preorder it and i really just spent money for the sake of it.I'm doing this review after completing the campaign on legendary by myself and a few missions in co-op and around 7 hours multiplayer. But anyway......
I'll start off with the good points. Its halo so how bad it can it be? You can't really be cheap on this game and theres not many glitches so for multiplayer you'll never feel cheated or think the games flawed unlike other games like COD or GOW which have many flaws but i still prefer them to halo.
Now the bad points. **** HELL where do i begin.
The storyline was terrible partly do to piss poor voice acting and a group of characters that had as much charisma and emotion as a wooden plank i didn't care if any of them died because they weren't interesting characters. In a scene when a marine is being shot at by wraiths he sounds like he spilt his morning coffee over him rather than hes gonna die. And the storyline itself isn't interesting with once again a bad ending way to tie off a series bungie.
Then theres the gameplay. They've gone back on themselves taken out a number of good features making it have the least in game features since halo one, a game thats Nearly 10 years old. Dual-wielding has been taken out (who SERIOUSLY thought that was a good idea, Fire the dumbass), multiple weapons have been taken out and some replaced by cheap copies. A gun called the concussion rifle is really just a brute shot instead it fires plasma instead of grenades why go to the effort?????? The ai in this game also isn't up to scratch. Sometimes elites stand about why your blasting them in the face with a DMR and then sometimes there **** psychic. Case in point ,at one point in the game two wraiths are shooting at you and a group of spartans when your at the top of a hill (Mission three) these wraiths know where you are even when behind rocks or when you leave there sights its really frustrating!!!!!(this is also the part where i quoted the bad voice acting "i've got enemy tangos on my six" go see for yourself) The AI in this game is bad but for your allies OH MY GOD there **** they don't help you you'll be lucky if they fire a bullet to help you out and there idiots when given regular marines as you can recruit them they die in an instant so would your spartan allies too if it wasn't impossible for them to die. Another thing i found a crap addition was the Power-ups. Some are good Holograph, evade, sprint and active camo were good and were extremely useful. But the others were terrible the computer never falls for armore lock up the bubble shield (sorry drop shield) is easily destroyed since it lasts depending on damage unlike in halo 3 where it was based on time. And the worst of all........ jet packs?????? IS THIS FROM RUSSIA WITH **** LOVE, JESUS CHRIST!!!!!!! They are crap there is never a good time to use them in battle as cover is much more important then flying around, they also fuel the case of the AI being bad because the computer can't shoot and fly at the same time. Thats right the computer can't multi-task in 2010. A slightly annoying point is that they let you use active camo in multiplayer which is a bit annoying but not that bad.
    Multiplayer
The multiplayer in this one is the worst i've played yet in the halo franchise.
Theres a few good points though. The servers are very good hardly any lag really well organised and games are quick to find. The forge worlds the best yet and could be like little little big planet (though not as good, but still pretty good)depending on how far the players are willing to go and if bungie uses user created maps. This could mean free dlc map packs. All the game modes are here and some have been revised such as firefight in multiple ways pretty damn good on those fronts. However.... this is the last game in the series so they should have gone ballistic throwing classic maps, map layouts, weapons etc straight at you BUT THEY DON'T. Instead the make cheap copies, the best halo map off all time Coagulation (called hemorrage in this) is a terrible copy. I also noticed a map called reflection on this which is once again a copy of a halo 2 map ivory tower.. As well as a re-imaganing off sanctuary from halo 2, all really cheap copies worse than the ones off previous games even with todays technology. The armor abilites ruin multiplayer so i often just play SWAT, and there using the vote system why not have regular good old fashioned team slayer instead of elite slayer or **** like that. Make what people want to play more specific instead of making them have a flip of a coin chance of playing a game mode they like or one they loathe.

Obviously there is significant amount of those who post reviews just to hate on a game, you'd be wise to ignore them. I find very little merit to most of their arguments, none that even bear repeating.

The only thing missing is all my friends who grew up and don't play video games any more...we would have had a lot of fun LAN partying this game. As it is online is great. Too bad the online community of games is so ruthless in their language. I simply have mute set as the default and only use party chat with friends. While this hurts teamwork...if you are a person of normal maturity level, you'd be wise to do the same. The other annoying thing online is players who are not there to play the game, just there to be "tools" and/or quit in the middle of a game. I can't really blame the game makers for this, its just something to be aware of that could negatively impact your online experience.

Let's get one thing clear - Halo has never been a world class FPS when compared to the likes of Valve-made shooters, but as a console gaming series they've managed to offer plenty of solid enjoyment for millions of people. Unfortunately, Reach has arrived at saturation point; new additions to the game are not enough, and things that really grated for past multiplayer elements still exist (quitters keep qutting, and are not replaced, for example) and the lack of any real customisation and progression makes it lose-out compared to other games (you can spend experience on armour parts, but overall they add so very little to the game).

The campaign manages to entertain, but the story, characters, and setting are a massive let-down. Uwe Boll could probably muster something better than what Bungie have done here, with not even one character offering the heart or soul equal to the likes of Cortana, Sergeant Johnson or even the Arbiter. If this were Bungie's first game then the campaign based on gameplay alone would be enough, but with Halo 3 and ODST already available and better, it's hard to fully recommend Reach.

As an overall package the game will do enough to keep fans happy, but don't be expecting a massively impressive swan-song here.

Halo: Reach is not a breakthrough, yet it's a clear showcase of Bungie's creative growth. The game is hardly a "must buy" – its single-player campaign is way too short and uneven in quality, while multiplayer has very little room for expansion besides map packs and useless character decorations. But with that said, Reach is worthy of your attention for a couple of evenings.
