May 15, 2012I would love to say that Game of Thrones is a great introduction to George R. R. Martin's world, but that simply isn't the truth. There are quite a few references to A Song of Ice and Fire and only those who are already fans of the series will get a significant amount of joy out of this title. Solid combat and interesting gameplay systems prevent it from being a licensed throwaway, but don't expect a gaming masterpiece if you're not already rooting for one of the lords of the Seven Kingdoms.
-
May 16, 2012Game of Thrones pushes its story to the forefront, creating a flawed though memorable addition to the Song of Ice and Fire universe.
-
May 15, 2012Game of Thrones lacks the absorbing gameplay and polished presentation that'd help set it among the 360's finer RPGs. But those already committed to the realm won't regret the couple dozen hours they'll spend under its narrative spell.
-
Jun 21, 2012Playing Game of Thrones is just like sitting on the Iron Throne itself - there's a lot there to find fulfilling, but you'll cut yourself on the sharp edges if you're not ready for them.
-
May 21, 2012Hardly the debut the fiction deserves, Game of Thrones is a pretty rough cut of George R. R. Martin's fantastic fantasy series on the polish front, but the game makes up for it with a solid, authentic storyline and a subtly rewarding combat system that will help fans look past the game's dated visuals.

Games Master UKJun 25, 2012Not a must for fans of the source material, but equally not a 'must avoid'. [Aug 2012, p.80]
-
Jul 2, 2012Game of Thrones is definitely worth a look if you have the patience to make it past the dull opening hours. If you're a fan of the books or the show, you'll enjoy the references to the wider lore, but you might enjoy the stilted combat, poor visuals and abhorrent voice acting a lot less. Hardened Game of Thrones fans need only apply.
-
Jun 21, 2012The game achieves to be faithful to the books, but it has quite a lot of flaws. Its gameplay is unbalanced and the story isn't told quite well. It only becomes enjoyable after some hours of play.
-
Jun 18, 2012Fans of George R.R. Martin's novels could appreciate the atmosphere of Game of Thrones, since the game delivers a solid story, especially in the final chapters. Unfortunately the merits end here, as the experience is plagued by awful graphics, pointless fights and uninspired exploration.
-
Jun 18, 2012A decent game that has been horrifically let down by one sub-standard element.
-
Jun 6, 2012If you remain nostalgic about this strange era, love the books, and don't mind turn-based combat, this is surprisingly compelling stuff. Everyone else should approach with caution: don't expect an awesome dwarf to give you the cash back if you hate it.
-
May 17, 2012For those wanting to explore the wilds of Westeros, climb to the top of The Wall or engage in a thrilling battle with a direwolf, this Game of Thrones falls completely flat. However, if you don't mind suffering through the combat, the visuals, and the lackluster environments, there's actually a decent interactive story to experience. Of course, that's a very big "if."
-
May 16, 2012Game of Thrones is satisfactory at best, and dreadfully slow and ugly at worst. But there is fun to be had here. Despite all the shortcomings, I had fun, and with video games that's the most important element for my enjoyment. It's not for everyone.
-
May 15, 2012At its worst, Game of Thrones is difficult to tolerate, but the burden of its many problems isn't enough to render the experience worthless. For those already familiar with the franchise, the story of Mors and Alester is consistent with the world and provides insight into events beyond the reach of the regular series cast. However, you must be a forgiving and devoted fan to enjoy the best that this game can offer.
-
May 21, 2012I still enjoyed my time with the game though, and appreciate what it brings to the table story-wise. Whether any of the events featured here will make their way into the canon proper I'm not sure, but as a side story it's certainly an interesting tale. And once you spend a little more time with the combat you'll find a better experience than the first few hours let on. So yeah, if you're a big fan or even just a fan from the T.V. show with little interest in the books, I'd say you should eventually give this one a look.
-
Sep 4, 2012Game of Thrones revels in the source material, wraps its narrative around it, and plays along with the vast universe that George Martin has crafted. It's too bad, and deeply disappointing, that the game celebrates little else.
-
Jun 20, 2012So Game of Thrones features an engrossing story underneath all its decidedly average layers and it's the mechanics and gameplay that hold back the overall experience from being one worth recommending outside of the series' most stalwart fans.
-
May 17, 2012In the end I think fans will find enough to love, but those looking for a solid RPG experience will come away sorely disappointed.
-
Jul 16, 2012It contains some interesting ideas and a good story, but it's dragged down by an awful voice acting, bad combat system and a subpar technical production. A game of such a scale and ambition deserves way better production values.
-
Jul 6, 2012For all its flaws, it did genuinely surprise me in areas and had twists and turns that were unexpected. It's a pleasantly mediocre game that could have used tons more polish to create a better experience.
-
Jun 22, 2012That it largely fails to deliver does not quite snuff out its allure – not, at least, for devotees of the fiction. For those yet to be tempted by Martin's work, however, the blunderous combat, mangled dialoguing and profoundly unlovely looks will make it seem, as a Westerosi idiom goes, a mummer's farce.
-
May 31, 2012If you're able to relish all the subtle nods and cameos from established characters, you may, may be able to find the energy to push yourself through the rest of Game of Thrones' blandness. And even then, it's a little like licking a ceiling clean of mayonnaise to reveal the trompe l'oeil underneath.
-
May 18, 2012There's quite a bit of awesome story within Game of Thrones, but the real question is if you can take whatever else is provided to get to it.
-
May 17, 2012It's far from the top of its class, and it has a lot of rough edges, but Game of Thrones is perfectly competent in most of what it sets out to do. It tells a good story that's worth experiencing, but if you don't care about the series or care more about the gameplay wrapper around a plot, there are a few better choices out there.
-
May 15, 2012Cyanide's vision for Game of Thrones is ambitious, but the studio's end product has buckled under the weight of its intricate design document. Despite some ideas I've fallen in love with, it's a buggy and ugly mess of a video game. Even for its story and brushes with the franchise's fiction, it's difficult to recommend to either series vets or role-playing fans.
-
May 23, 2012Game of Thrones is not the game Westeros deserved. It's a bad game in every possible aspect, it's not fun and it's not interesting. It's best to forget about it and spend our time with much better RPGs that have been released lately.
-
Jul 13, 2012Just read the books or watch the TV series. Game of Thrones could've been so good but in the end it's just a huge cheap letdown.
-
Jun 14, 2012There's a decent a story to be salvaged here, and one that could happily be adapted for the show, but as a video game this fails miserably.
-
Jun 9, 2012By journey's end, it's only a passing interest in the increasingly intriguing story that holds attention. Indeed, this is a deeply flawed and overly ambitious attempt for a developer unable to grasp the genre basics. Its only real triumph is that it doesn't completely tarnish the licence's sterling reputation.
-
May 23, 2012That's pretty much the whole of Game of Thrones. Sad dialogue, combat, sad dialogue, combat, sad dialogue, more sad dialogue, something outright horrifying happening, sad combat, and so on repeated in varying orders for a bit more than 20 hours.
-
May 15, 2012It's a shame that most will not have the wherewithal to endure the 20 or so hours of bad game to get to the really juicy story moments. The twists that are thrown are guaranteed to surprise. Unfortunately you'll need to wade through an often ugly, buggy, and poorly delivered mess to get to them.
-
May 14, 2012If there has ever been a grimmer, more depressing story in a game, we don't want to play it. Our heroes can find their way to four different endings, and they range in tone from "bleak and uncertain" to "horrific and hateful." Leading up to those endings, every awful thing that can possibly happen does.
-
May 16, 2012Boring. Everything about the game seems to be crafted in such a way to make the experience as un-engaging as possible. The graphics: poor. The voice acting: dry. The combat: repetitive. The story: uninteresting. In fact, the only thing this game has going for it is the Game of Thrones IP it is attached to, which is par for the course for licensed games.
-
X-ONE Magazine UKJul 26, 2012Even if you're a fan of the TV series, the dullness just isn't worth it. [Issue#87, p.86]
-
Jul 20, 2012Ultimately, Cyanide seems to have released a poor excuse for a TV show to Videogame port with Game of Thrones. It's aimed at fans of the show, and you'll soon realise that Cyanide have used little imagination when creating this title, no doubt knowing that fans will lap this tripe up simply for having the title 'Game of Thrones' on the front cover.
