Having not played the original I decided to have a punt on this for a laugh, and I'm now 35 hours in to one of the best games I've played since Mass Effect 1&2. In my little gaming world Divinity 2 is sort of a spiritual successor to Summoner 2 on the PS2 - (too many 2's!! lol), even though they have little in common from a business perspective they both value fun, atmosphere, and genuine RPG elements over being 'sellable' to Jo Public. The blend of humour, epicness and grandeur, is perfect, making the rol-playing aspects of the game a joy to get involved with - the local Barnsley accents are particualrly cool. Then the combat, whilst not perfect, is still really fun and gives the players various ways of approaching the game - all down to how you want to build your character. The musical score fits to a tee, very immersive, the challenge is good, and although the graphics certainly aren't great at all, who's complaining? Not me, because this is one of the best games and RPGs I've played in ages. Avoid Dragon Age 2, go for this instead.… Expand

But then again I suppose if a game requires basic reading & mathematic skills the critics just aren't interested. Imbeciles. Anywho, I haven't actually played the original Divinity 2 so I can't comment on how much of an improvement the graphics are, and while it's true it isn't quite as good looking as Oblivion when it comes to things like NPCs they are still excellent. The interface & controls here are exemplary; pressing the right trigger allows you to easily compare your equipped gear when shopping, the stats are simply explained, and the journal is fantastic, in conjunction with the map, providing clear instructions, & quest markers. Not once did I get lost. The character progression here is some of the most flexible I've come across in a while; rather than locking you into a class D2 lets you spend XP across class' on a massive skill tree so you you create a virtually endless number of different characters. If that wasn't enough you can also customise your armor, transorm into a Dragon & build your very own creature from enemy body parts! And (apart from perhaps the Ghost) Larian Studios has done a stellar job balancing the many skills; unlike many RPGs every skill felt useful, and none overpowered. The one thing that impressed me the most though was the insane amount of choice in the gameplay. In a super cool innovation you can spend XP to read NPCs minds opening up new ways to solve quests, and other secrets. There's even a choice of rewards for EVERY quest in the game!… Expand

   Technically the game is clearly not the best looking one, the small Larian Studio can't possibly do as good as Bioware for example, but for a RPG it's not too bad, under the average of 2011 but still acceptable. This edition of the game is also totally free of bugs and glitches which makes a perfectly enjoyable experience. If you want to try this game takes this edition (not the basic one then the expansion).
   
   Concerning the gameplay the fighting system is a bit too simple to be excited about but all the RPG mechanics works really great (character development, loot, management of a minion and of an HQ, possibility to transform into a dragon, multiple endings for the quest, some nice puzzles there's truly everything you could expect from a RPG and the game is diversified enough to never be boring.
   
   The story is classic in its core, but the dialogues are very well written with a lot of good jokes and the voice-overs are actually pretty good for the genre (considering the number of voices and the size of the studio), there's obviously a lot of side quests and almost all of them are interesting and worth playing, not like some game where it's only fetch quest or pure grinding. To finish both the game and its expansion with all the side quest you can expect a good 60-70 hours which is good for the genre but under the 100 hours promised on the cover, once again I don't understand the point of lying as 60 hours is already a nice argument.
   
   So in conclusion the game is a good RPG, a little weak on the graphic side, but that's clearly not what matters in the genre, everything else is nicely done and clearly worth a try for any western RPG lovers.… Expand

Decent graphics, good combat, some freezes and glitches. I think the sound track deserves a mention, though. The music is good for an average video game.… Expand

You have a lot of options to configure your character and the world is so big. Whereas I like this game (I love RPG) I only recommend it if you like RPG (I mean classic RPG). I must say that this game sometimes is confusing (the storyline could be told in a better way). The creators has improve the original game in the DKS and I'm trully especting their next game.… Expand

   If you're looking for a fun RPG to play, dont even give this one a second look. While it may offer exploration, the combat is uninspired, unintuitive, and fails to be fun, the UI is a mangled hodgepodge of first and third person, and the controls were seemingly mapped by someone who has never played a videogame before. I mean, who on earth thought it was a good idea to make the right trigger jump? Or to make the action button the left bumper?
   
   For its time, the graphics are alright, mostly. The cutscenes are beautiful, and the art design is similar to Fable 1. However, seemingly in an attempt to make everything look more detailed, the art can tend to have a bit too much going on, leading it to look like a bit of a mess. The part of it that irks me the most is the laziness in the creation of the main character. The choices you have for the customization are woefully minimal, restricting you to 3 hairstyles, 2 hair colors, and 8 faces that all look roughly the same. If you're a fan of animation, you may also be irked by the fact that the main characters hands were never given proper animation, and simply left in a resting pose. Just something about the fact that I'm not even holding the sword I'm supposed to be swinging is simply glued to the palm of my hand really bothers me. In most games, such a lack of detail would only be allowed on a character so far from sight that they could only be properly seen with cheats.
   
   As for the story? It's a bit cliche, really. You're a dragonslayer who gains the ability to turn into a dragon, making him an enemy of both sides of a big war, and only he can stop the big, bad villain who's causing it from behind the scenes. There is a bit of charm to a few moments in the dialogue, but other parts can feel as cringeworthy as reading a short story written by an edge-obsessed american middle-schooler.
   
   Has it held up after all of these years? Nope. Certainly not. I cant even say it did well for its time. The Bethesda RPGs, which are well-known for not being the prettiest games, blow this one out of the water, despite being a bit hard on the eyes. It may be blasphemy as a gamer, but I honestly even enjoyed Fable 3 more than this game.… Expand
