This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is amazing. I love the story so much. I actually got sorta sad when soap died. and survival was really fun. I like survival way better than zombies! Multi-player is really fun too. I wish they included the money system from black ops. But kill confirmed made up for the wager matches though. Expand

The only good thing about this game so far is that because I got it at Wal-mart, I was allowed to return it. Played this game before so many times. It only has a couple of changes, but they suck. Can't even pick my own killstreaks, and they did away with the money system in Blackops. If you like to pay for things twice, this game is for you.

So this score is also reflected mainly on the single player experience. Ahem....That was incredibly short even for a Modern Warfare game. The final game to what turned out to be an over-the-top storyline trilogy was over before it even began. It didn't even take me four hours. I still run around like a chicken with my head cut off getting barked at for going the wrong way, or taking my time taking out a tank, or whatever,...and its still a fun first person shooter. Lots of increadible destruction graphics, struggling to get out of debris or from falling from dizzying heights. Again, the story line is over the top and doesn't make much sense or have any realism to it, but it is interesting as any Darkhorse comic out there that ask us to suspend disbelief. Fun game and worth it for twenty dollars, no more, but still could have fleshed out the storyline and should have made it a bit longer than 3 and a half hours. Expand

Refinements in the multiplayer have allowed more balance, allowing for less killstreak spam and being locked down by campers. This is probably the best game in the series that doesn't offer much new, just a more polished version of what you already like.

This is essentially CoD Black Ops with a different storyline. It plays smooth and the single player experience goes from one "over the top" moment to another. People say it's the same thing every year but if that's true, isn't every sequel? Ignore them and play it for yourself, if you don't like it fair enough.

Anyone who is a fan of the franchise will be getting exactly what they expect for their money. The campaign is as action packed as ever but even at just four hours long it became a bit of a chore to play through as it offers little that hasn’t already been seen in previous entries in the series. Other criticisms that could be levelled at any Call of Duty game, such as an over reliance on scripted events and sections with infinitely respawning enemies, also still apply here. On occasions it is easy to get wrapped up in everything that is going on but for me these instances were the exception rather than the rule.

Online multiplayer has also changed very little aside from a few new perks. The maps themselves are however rather disappointing this time around, none of them are downright poor but none could really be considered a true classic in the same way as Crash or Overgrown from previous games. In fact there is a distinct lack of variety in the maps with none really offering the opportunity for sniping or long range combat (although some may see this as a good thing I suppose). The Special Ops missions from Modern Warfare 2 also return and provide a good selection of challenging co-op game. In the end, despite the fact that the formula is now starting to wear a little thin, it seems as though the majority of people aren’t disappointed with Modern Warfare 3 as sales yet again reached record numbers.

The Singleplayer, was the biggest disappointment. I prefer Battlefield 3's, solely because Battlefield 3 ripped of COD4, which was a decent story to unravel. MW3, you just kill Makarov, and for some reason, the developers wanted to kill off all the main characters on the way, which is lazy story telling IMO. But nobody plays this for the Singleplayer, and if you did/were going to get this for that (like I did); trust me, it's crap. The weapon proficiencies and pointstreak stuff make for better customization, but you can go back to MW1 to get the same shooting experience. Graphics, well, still the same system as MW1. Good, but we've seen it before. One of the complaints I've always had with the series is that the scenery rarely wows me. I guess it's partly because reality is boring (compared to stuff like halo reach, which makes amazing setpieces). Everything just seems to blend into one big "blah". Regardless, it's still a fun game. May not be worth your $60 if you are satisfied with the previous Modern Warfares, but it does use a fast and furious system that is fun, even if it's exactly like previous iterations. Expand

It picks up exactly where MW2 left off with Russia attacking the United States and Captain Price and Captain Mactavish escaping Afghanistan after "murdering" General Shepherd. The story take you on a roller coaster ride around the world including places such as New York, Siberia and Somalia. You play as multiple characters that are a part of the infamous 'Task Force 141', a US Army Delta Force operative, A member of the Special Air Service (SAS), and as a presidential bodyguard. The single player is heavily scripted, but it is extremely entertaining throughout. One moment in particular puts you in an AC-130 gunship as one moment, and then fly's you down to the ground to play in your traditional FPS perspective. If you're not really interested in the single play campaign, MW3 and a huge multiplayer and cooperative suite bursting at the seams with content. You and a friend can team up and the the traditional 'Specs Ops' missions that were featured in Modern Warfare 2, or you can play the new 'Specs Ops Survival' mode. Survival mode puts you a multiplayer map of your choosing against wave after waved of heavily armed combatants. You can weapons to use (which you can also upgrade), close air support (airstrikes, A.I controlled Delta Force Squad), and explosives (C4 packs, claymores).

But what you're probably here for is the multiplayer.

The multiplayer features your traditional 'Call of Duty' staples including create a class, kill streak rewards and perks. Create and class allows you to customize your own load out to take into battle. You can choose what weapons to take in to battle, and also allows you to choose perks, which are special abilities that you can unlock and use on your multiplayer character. The kill streak rewards are now known as 'Strike Packages'. There are three types of 'Strike Package', assault, support, and specialist. The assault package includes the traditional kill streak rewards such as predator missile and AC-130 gunships, and they reset upon your death. The support package includes defensive rewards such as UAV's and recon drones. The most interest 'Strike Package' is the specialist package. The specialist package allows you to trade in your traditional rewards in for perks. A decent player can earn every perk in the game, and dominate with them.

Now for the final part of my review, the balancing. Modern Warfare 3 was promised to be the most balanced 'Call of Duty' game to date, and I have to disagree. Weapons do way to much damage and the map still cater too much to camping. The maps have bad flow which causes things to not go as you would want them to go. People can still spawn right behind you and stick a knife in your back, not something you want to happen in a multiplayer game.

The Modern Warfare series has truly evolved into a game series of its own and Modern Warfare 3 is proof of this. The stages are larger and more detailed than they ever have been in a Call of Duty game and the multiplayer experience is far more polished and balanced than MW2's online offerings. This is a game worth picking up.

The single player campaign is the first stop I make for every Modern Warfare game. The game is a visual and aural delight; at times I found myself taking a break from the battle around me just to appreciate the finer details the developers worked in. The sound design has improved immensely since the last installment, too. Guns pop with satisfying force, the voice actors put on a convincing show, and explosions distort sound more realistically than ever.

However, I will admit that this is not the strongest single player experience in the Modern Warfare franchise. It is everything I expected it to be, but nothing more. Joining the cast are several forgettable new characters, which is a shame considering the legacy of memorable (and occasionally infamous) characters in the previous MW games. Rarely did I find myself invested in the story, which suffers from pacing issues and fatigued plot devices. I did find some parts of the game pleasantly tense, but the campaign is predictable and shallow otherwise. MW3 definitely feels like the third in a trilogy in this regard, rather than a narrative that can stand on its own two feet.

Thankfully MW3 finds its footing elsewhere. Spec Ops has been rethought and restructured and it plays great. The addition of online play is a welcome feature and the loose tie-ins with the campaign mean that even those playing solo have something to enjoy.

Of course, the real meat and potatoes of any CoD game is its multiplayer offering. MW3's multiplayer is the most polished and feature-packed entry to date, outclassing last year's Black Ops in nearly every way imaginable. The developers worked to make the online mode a more balanced game and their effort paid off. Weapons are better adjusted, maps seem more focused, and the new strike packages provide players a whole slew of new battle tactics. Gone are the days when campers owned the game, which is refreshing considering this has been an issue for almost half a decade now. New game modes and a larger variety of weapons ensure that the newest installation in the CoD franchise feels fresh.

Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer have crafted the best CoD package yet. Pick this game up and give it a go. You might be surprised at not only the volume of the content, but its depth as well.

On November 8th 2011 a game released and it changed the world. The game I'm talking aboutt is Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3. The series is known primarily for its competitive multiplayer and its lackluster single-player. Many of us are hoping for a change in the formula but lets see if we got one.

I will start first with the single player. This campaign is similar in its approach as mw2, lots of crazy action moments and shallow characters. The campaign is short and takes about 4-5 hours to beat and subpar story and character development. The campain has you taking over many different characters from different military organizations and you are battling in many different fields of war such as NYC and France. The story takes place directly after the events of mw2 so it is reccomended to play mw2 first if possible. I dont want to go too much into detail with the single-player as I dont want to reveal too much. So basically if you buy this game it will do you no harm to go through the single-player just exspect to see lots of explotions and action scenes with a forgetfull COD story.

The newest addition to the COD series is a new spec-ops survival mode which has you taking on infinate waves of increasingly difficult enemies. The mode allows you to purchase weapons with custom attachments, equipment such as c4 and frags, and also riot shield teams and perks all bought with in-game currency you earn for getting kills and completing wave challenges. What is good about spec ops is there is now online matchmaking so you will always have someone to play with. There is also a new spec-ops rank completly seperate from your competitive rank that allows you to have the oppertunity to buy better gear in-game. The mission mode has returned in mw3 letting you and one friend take on a number of different missions where you also gain xp for you spec-ops rank. Together both the mission and survival spec-op modes add days of exciting content to a game that already has alot of content.

Now to disscuss the thing that many of you will be spending days, maybe weeks playing, the competitive mulitplayer. There are 80 levels per prestige level and there are 10 presitge levels giving us tons of hours of replay value. There are alot of new additions to the competitive and they all make the core experience of online vary depending on how you like to play. Instead of just selecting killstreaks like in mw2, in mw3 you have to choose your strike package whice lets includes assault which is for gamers who like offensive killstreaks. There is the support package that is for the gamers who want to support their team with UAV's and other items. One thing that makes the support package different is the kills you get stay even if you die making it ideal for inexperienced players. Completing an objective also adds to your killstreak. The final strike package is the specialist package ideal lone wolves and kills are rewarded with additional perks. You may choose a seperate strike package per custom class. When you presitge you gain a prestige token which you can use to purchase additional custom classes, or unlock gear straight from the start. This makes each time you prestige more unique. There is also alot more gear you can take with you instead of flashbangs, now you can take trophy systems and other gear. A new major addition is weapon levels which is how you unlock new attachments for you guns. It is a seperate level for each gun that levels up by getting kills with it, and at each new level you unlock attachments, camo, or weapon proficiency like less recoil or faster melee. Please note that this is a COD game and in most occasions suffers from extreme balancing issues and a very large hit box. The shooting mechanics are good and the graphics are on the lower end of the spectrum compared to its major competetors. The game also feels too noob friendly and extremly easy to excell in. The game is also filled with many people who like to camp and cheat. There is also an attachment for the m14 assault rifle that is semi attomatic but makes it have less recoil when using a rapid-fire mod. The game is fun online and it had alot of value but if you were expecting a change in the formula, its not here. The game is unblanced in its core and the series needs an overhaul. Activision needs to change the series because it is killing itself. It may be good enough for the casuals but the hardcore are losing interest. You need to change the series like you did with COD4 or else it will be too late. The world is waiting for change, please Activision, dont make us wait any longer. With Black Ops 2 blow us away because this game just didnt.

If Spec Ops wasn't to your liking, well you're a **** moron. And if it's single player, well grow up and buy a real game. This was a multiplayer purchase first and foremost. If you didn't realize that when you bought it, I really do feel bad for you.
    b) The little tweeks that make CoD come out year after year, the reason they keep making as much money as they do is because the fanbase is there. Hell for a radically different example, look at Halo. Halo has not **** changed at all over the 10 years it's been out. Shield, healthbar, death. And hell, they're upgrading the pistol to its original form here soon! They're reverting back to the old ways and that particular fanbase is PAYING to play that!? Seriously though, CoD comes out with a different game every year. If you're expecting big, radical changes, you're into the wrong game series.
    c) As someone who took a year off after MW2 came out because I hate **** Treyarch and because 3 months after MW2 came out the Tac Nuke was being overused in my typical gametype, Hardcore TD, I **** love this game. This game took what was good from MW2, mashed it with what originally worked in MW1, and put it in a nice little bow where they improved upon the hit boxes online as well as the 60FPS frame rate.

To all you who are mass producing the 0 grade, you're review should be thrown out because it serves no purpose but to bastardize a great game. Wanna make a statement next time a CoD game comes out? DON'T **** BUY IT AND STAY OFF THE **** SERVERS.

I am a fan of CODI honestly don't see how anyone can say that this is the same game as MW2. They are both great games but I am tired of all the hardcore BF fans coming here just to hate on this game. EVERY negative review mentions BF in some way. It is obvious that all the negativity is coming from supporters of BF which is a very biased and unfair way to judge a game. The fact is, this game sold 6.5 million copies in the first 24 hours and id bet most of those people love this game and are probubly playing it right now. This game is a great addition to the series and will always be loved weather some people want to hate on it or not. Maybe if BF3 was more fun, some of you would be playing it instead of coming here to hate on MW3.... Expand

This is what I expected it to be. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 with some much needed tweeks. This is a very solid game. After all, why change the things that weren't broken in the first place. However, it is probably not worth getting at the full retail price. Buy it on sale and it will be money well spent.

If it's not broken, don't fix it........excellent game so far. I have only played through about half so far but it is cod all the way. There are people that love run and gun games and this series is the best there is for that.

This game is nearly EXACTLY like MW2, in every aspect. The online game play has only been slightly tweaked since the previous game and the overall game feels rushed and un-finished. The single player game play is once again, exactly like MW2, it feels rushed and boring. It's a lot of the same and there is not much to say. I cannot finish the single player because the levels are not fun, and they feel like a task that I NEED to complete just for the achievements. Same exact thing with spec ops mode, I feel like I need to beat all the levels just for that achievement score. Nothing more. Also, I am aware most of the people working on the game got laid off, and I feel sorry for those people, but, to put it simply, there are crews of 10 or less people who make much better games, in a shorter amount of time. It can't be that hard to put a new skin on MW2, because that's what this game is. Expand

They've promised a lot and gave us nothing. Call Of Duty series was over when Black Ops released, and now they do this? Same graphics of a Super Nintendo, poor physics, 2h30 of singleplayer, the plot involves russians trying to bomb somewhere, as always, and the multiplayer has a lot of lifeless people, lag and poor maps. HAHAHA, honestly people? This game is definitely better than a 0. I am a fan of the three major online games: Halo, Modern Warfare and battlefield...all three of these games engines have changed VERY little except improved graphics and maybe some new weapons, so stop writing reviews saying that this game is crap. This game is great, just like battlefield. If you are giving it a 5 or lower,HAHAHA, honestly people? This game is definitely better than a 0. If you are giving it a 5 or lower, then you have something personal against the game as in being a battlefield fanboy and it is not a true review...yes, this game has flaws with the spawning system and i wish they had improved the graphics and gameplay quite a bit more, but nonetheless it is a good game and worth it. I recommend getting this game because the campaign continues the great storyline, spec ops is still awesome and online gameplay and leveling system is good...not great, but good....this game is especially good considering what has happened with infinity ward. This game deserves between a 75 and a low 90. Expand

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
