First, I want to say I was previously a die- hard cod fan; would buy NO other game. But this, this is just frustrating. The one point I gave is only for the campaign. The multiplayer is trash. And if you thought the spawns in MW2 were bad, you are going to be downright infuriated with this game. You can literally watch a person spawn in front of you, and one second you are facing the enemy spawn and the next they are quiet literally ten feet behind you. Call of Duty was the only game I ever played. I loved Modern Warfare 2. However for this game, I'm getting pretty close to saying I hate it.

Besides maps and spawns, this game is more Like a Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 1.8, not even two. If you hadnt ever played number 2 or 3 before, you would have thought mw2 was newer. They were too lazy to even keep Black Ops' changes. They didn't even keep the fact that the amount of points you get off assists depends on the damage you inflict. Its back to a set 20 points again!!! And as for last stand, If you put a person in last stand, and then a teammate kills them from there, that teammate gets the kill! The were soooo dependent on the mw2 format that the didn't even bother going back to make the changes that black ops made for the better.

I always thought Treyarch made the trash call of duties, but Activision, I want them back. Badly.
...At least they tried, and I appreciate that... I just feel betrayed on this game...

It's using the same engine as the previous titles. Pumping COD games out every year is not the way to go. It may as well be called Modern Warfare 2k11.

I'm very disappointed with this game. It seems more like an addon to MW2 than a brand new game. This is a game that's probably better rented than bought. They brought in new guns and perks, gun levels, and gun perks. Those are all very good. But, some of the new guns are extremely over-powered. The game has been sped up to make it better for people who like to rush in. There is very little strategy involved, especially in the modes of Team Deathmatch and Kill Confirmed. The only strategy there is "look here, look there, try not to get shot, and kill enemies as fast as possible". This game is really built for the types of players who want to race to see who can get the best score, the fastest. The last part is what I have a problem with. It also seems like the maps have been made more compact, with shorter ranges of sight requiring faster reactions and higher sensitivities. In addition with the fact that players move more quickly, this makes the game frustratingly fast-paced. It's so sped up, in fact, that the fire-rate on most of the automatic weapons makes it seem like someone hit you once and killed you. This is a step down from the level of Black Ops. It's probably even worse than MW2. I suggest to anyone considering getting this game to take little stock in the "critics" who gave this game high scores, and instead listen to the actual players. Instead of this game, get Skyrim, Saints the Third, Battlefield 3, or something else that you find interesting, because this game is not worth a $60 investment. Expand

There isn't a line of sight long enough to make a sniper rifle useful. And the connection problems are ridiculous. All the weapons feel like they have been nerfed. And from a financial stand-point, this is wise for the designers, because it will be harder to get a kill, thus harder to level up, and so you play longer. Well played Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer, whatever you are now. Did they even hire military consultants? Or did they just watch a marathon of Rambo and Delta Force? How much more military cliches can you cram into one game?! This isn't one of those games you can't put down; this is one of those games you find yourself thinking of something to do so you can put it down even quicker.

COD is all about mutiplayer, after all of 3 hours you've beat the campaign. It's been a few weeks now and 30 hours of online play but time hasn't improved my opinion of the game. Camping and getting shot in the back is what MW3 is all about. Colors are washed out and the guns are unspectacular and all will one/two shot kill you from any range. The maps are a chaotic nightmare, prepare to streak (3 deaths, 4 kills, 4 deaths, 5 kills). You'll have a bunch of players run right out in front of you only to streak into the abundance of campers (lay in a sewer pipe with heartbeat sensor anyone) and your turn at bad luck by players coming out behind you. Low levels are a PITA, you get welcomed to the game by being absolutely punished by vets with all the attachments. If you make it through that tough spell there's a good chance you are ready to reap the rewards by turning off the game due to the fact you've already done it all. That's not to say the game doesn't have some fun opportunities. Mic up with 4-5 friends and you will run amuck through the maps. However if you're on the wrong side of that team you'll just find yourself grabbing your ankles. In the end MW3 is a good starting point for a game but misses all the small (see development time consuming) things that make a game great. We have been shown what game designers are capable of when they care, the depth and innovation that they can do when they want to (they make it painfully obvious they didn't care for MW3). Infinity Ward has had really four games starting with MW1 to really see what works and doesn't and tune and perfect the product, MW3 feels like a developer's first dive into the fps just throwing out what is already out there and not using any player feedback for development.

Did they bother to develop new one? No. Since that time nothing changed. Same animations of characters, weapons and look of maps. They are trying to blind us through doing stuff like replacing zombies with 2 player co-op, new game mode and few new weapons model, but that's all. If you are going to get that game prepare for disappointment. Activision managed to sink all the way to the bottom of the sea one of the best FPS series in history of video games - Well done! From the king to the street beggar. I think it's time for CoD to retire for couple of years and come up with something new. Single player - stopping WW3 sounds great, you have the same characters (that didn't die) from previous version of MW. Map design is simple - get from point A to point B. Don't worry you won't get lost on the way. Guess why... CoD1 offered several different paths to reach objective and that's what should be restored! I don't care about fancy explosions!

Multiplayer - its just map pack for MW2.

Honestly when people bring up things like FIFA and games of a like, mainly yearly updates as a reason as to why COD should be defended to the bitter end, it just irritates me that little bit more.

If you measure a game year on year then the amount of changes in the likes of FIFA, GOW, Assassins Creed and Uncharted etc, then you would struggle a little bit in naming them. But if you say, look at the changes in the games over the last 5 years (since MW) then you will see the differences in these games over COD are more prominent.

The list can go on

Look at Uncharted from 1-3. Each one has a fantastic narrative, challenges, puzzles and characters that you can see in real depth and enjoy. They have online Multiplayer which has improved from UC2 to UC3 and the graphical changes from 1-3 are excellent. List can go on

Assassins creed from 1 through to Brotherhood- Again each story is well thought out although at times a little confusing. Different challenges and side missions/collectables along the way. The also now have multiplayer, which for the best part is getting better and better. New animations and weapons for taking down enemies, different clothing and much improved graphics. List can go on

You compare these to the likes of COD from COD4(MW) to MW3 and really over the past 5 years there isn't much to shout about in terms of changes made. The SP and the story are forgettable in each game, no real characters, Graphics haven't improved that much, neither has the sound quality or player/CPU animations (getting from standing down to prone is abit of a chore). The explosions are pathetic, as are the breaching of buildings (once you've seen one you've seen them all) and the knifing is still the same, just a swipe and then your done. It would be nice to see them actually grappling with the opposition before using the knife, because a swipe across the back won't really do it.

Online, I haven't really played that much but from what someone told me THERE ARE A FEW BUILDINGS ETC THAT HAVE BEEN RECYCLED AND USED BEFORE IN EARLIER INSTALLMENTS. The only thing they've really done to balance the game out is using the killstreaks and perks and no real gameplay changes and even that isn't great. You can still use your overpowered Sniper rifle to "no scope" or "quickscope". Then there is the small and overpriced maps that have little to no real detail in and look more like cardboard cut outs.

Is it because Activision are too insistent on keeping the game at 60fps (they seem to be using this as there main selling point) that they are unwilling to add anything new? or are they just milking it because a lot of people out there will buy it regardless because of the series' reputation from earlier installments?

Either way i'm just glad i've rented, rather than fork out £35-40 for a game that has changed littler over the past 5 years. Its a lazy representation of a franchise that should be going from strength to strength instead, it's stuttering along and milking everything they can out of people. Disgrace.

You have the same infinitely spawning enemies that try to kill you before you and your team reaches the objective which just leads to a somewhat dull story telling experience. But in the end 98% of people don't buy the game for the story they buy it for the countless hours of multilayer enjoyment that we all come to love with modern games. Sadly I just don't feel they delivered what we all were expecting when this game was being hyped up. Its the same graphics same sound and unfortunately the same feel as the past two games just with a new name and a brand new game price tag slapped on a box. But it is a structurally solid game and I haven't encountered may bugs that cant be attributed to release day bugs but I just cant get past it having the EXACT same feel as the past two games had. The infinty ward you speak of is a new team of devs under the same name all they did was take The orginal infinty ward formula and cashed in on it thats why I dont like them, Treyarch also cashed in on their formula too. So BF3 is winning cuz they are more innovative......Winning go copy your homework Bam!

At the end of the day, if the game favors an unfair advantage just by having the fastest connection, the quality of the game suffers. I can deal with the asthetics and sounds, but the overall immersion of the game promotes lone wolf gameplay. Even on the team based objectives. Sometimes its not good to change what's not broke, but in this case, this is the same game made in 2007, only with different maps, a few boring new game modes. A big gripe I have on MW3 is the MP maps. It's impossible to go 30 seconds without taking a grenade, getting shot in the back or anything of that nature. I was optimistic when I bought this game thinking they'd be innovative and introduce new features. However, the features they introduced were even more user friendly, every game theres a UAV every minute, helicopter killing you when you walk outside it really dampens the multiplayer experience. There's just so much familiarity even dating back to Call of Duty 4, it gets old so fast. It's a basic expansion pack that shouldnt be charged 60$, its insane to me. Only one mission of the lot caught my full attention and makes up for the entire story in my opinion. It took me the worst part of 7 hours to complete this game on veteran (a new personal best on any games highest difficulty). Was very disappointing.
Multiplayer mode is where CoD games shine or die for me and sadly, this one died as soon as I saw my video of multiplayer. It looks like an exact clone of its predecessor MW2. With a few new game modes and weapon tweaks, it does not change the game style at all. The tactics and abilities of almost every CoD player are the same on some very badly designed maps. With the range of maps given on this game, you would think that a half decent one would have made its way onto the game but sadly, it has not. A very poor Multiplayer experience to veterans and newbies alike.
Spec Ops is only the real decent part of this game and is where 2/3 of my points come from. A complete recreation of the MW2 co-op missions and some new and "creative" (risky word) challenges which tests the players tactics, reactions and teamwork even on the easiest setting.

Although this game will surely be up for the biggest (not best) game of the year, it has still left me with nothing but negative thoughts about the CoD franchise. A very poorly designed game.

I thought to myself, "So far, nothing out of the ordinary for the series." I'm not surprised at the lack of change from MW2. I am, however, surprised at the lack of effort from IW. Take a hint from BF3 and update your graphics. Take another hint from BF3 and make sure your game incorporates quality sound. I'm stunned at how bad the game looks and sounds. The guns sound identical, which wouldn't be a problem if they didn't sound like the audio department recorded a B-17 dropping 2-tons on a microphone. I believe a friend mentioned something along the lines of "a tank with diarrhea" when referring to the sound of the UMP. Let's move on the the handling of the game. One of the series' most important characteristics is the gameplay. Players expect fast-paced, smooth gameplay. After all, it is an arcade-style FPS that has followed the same basic formula for seven games. Unfortunately, with the movement feeling clunky and the added recoil, I'm not feeling the traditional gunplay from previous versions. People play the series because the unrealistic recoil, smooth gameplay, and easy kills make it fun. I'm not getting this feeling from MW3 and it's very disappointing. Other people complain that after two years of development, MW3 should at the very least look better. Sadly, I have to agree that the latest addition to the Call of Duty series feels like a lackluster attempt and is a disappointment to the players. I would be upset that I spent $60 and already strongly dislike the game after a few hours of multiplayer if I didn't plan on trading the game in at Amazon.com.

Note: This is my honest, unbiased opinion. It's not because I have ill feelings towards IW or Treyarch. They gave us CoD2, 4, and Black Ops, and nothing can replace the fun I had while playing those games. Also, it's not because I'm "bad". Add me (AFTERHOURS 90) on XBL and you'll already know from experience, or see that I have had 3.00+ K/D ratios since CoD4.

It is pitiful, not because little has changed, but because little has been improved upon. Modern Warfare 2 was shaken down by the general public for its lack of inspiration and connection to the gamer, and Modern Warfare 3 is the same old song and dance. Never have I felt more distanced from a developer whilst playing a game, EVER. The developers simply have no interest in making games for those who enjoy playing games. If some semblance of effort was noticeable in this silly-putty mold-your-own game was present, I would be more in favor of it. but it simply isn't. The gunplay is just as lacking as previous, and the campaign is a pitiful excuse to move you around as many "unique" settings as possible. At no point in this game was I engaged: I just sat down, mind rotting, mouth agape.

I had big expectations for this fall: Battlefield 3 and MW3 would be a real clash of the titans, an end-all showdown to the slew of modern war games we have endured in the past decade. I was excited: this was the culmination of millions and millions of dollars' worth of effort, a decade of experience clashing to deliver the ultimate benchmark for the Modern War game. It never came round, though; it turns out that in a combat situation, MW3 croaks on the Battlefield.

I love MW3's campaign and Special Ops stuff, but the multiplayer is seriously, SERIOUSLY broken. One of the main reasons for this is the insistence on using latency compensation. Just by adding this feature, you are absolutely DESTROYING your hit detection system. In addition, the spawn system present is currently absolutely atrocious. Every game I have played in I have spawned directly in front of an enemy half of the time. This is ridiculous. Let's not forget the gun balance issues. If you are trying to take the series in a more realistic direction, then PLEASE explain to me why a SHOTGUN does not one shot someone at point blank range. Another thing, the map design is horrid. There's entirely too many corners to hide behind, and far too few "open" areas. I could go on, and on, and on about how bad the multiplayer is, but, frankly, I don't feel like wasting any more of my time with this game. Fix the issues present in it, and MAYBE I would rate it above a 4. If you don't care about your gamers, then we don't care about your ratings. Some of these problems were in Black Ops (latency compensation, terrible spawn system), and were vocally complained about. This is the last time I buy a CoD game since there is obviously no care for the consumer. Expand

Spawn system spawns people directly behind enemies without a friendly being close by. Constantly dying from behind when you just checked that spot a half a second ago. In Black Ops I could turn around and kill the guy half the time, not here, instant death. Three bars is impossible to play with(I have a 25/3.5 connection), bullets have at least a 500 ms delay; one shot deaths, dying before the enemy is even around the corner, pre-fire people just to die instantly, hit detection is horrid (watch theater mode and see your crosshair smack in the middle of his chest without any damage being done). Watch kill cams and half the time your bullets didn't even leave your weapon on their screen. Knifing thin air grants a kill, knifing from 10 feet away grants a kill, knife going to their skull does not grant a kill. Sniping is too easy, way too easy; snipers can shoot as fast as mk14 with zero recoil and 1 hit kills, scoping is instant and has zero sway. Throwing knife takes forever and doesn't register 99% of the time. Did I mention hit detection is horrible? Can't shoot through 99% of objects; chain link fence with a plastic cover is bullet proof, sheet metal as thin as paper is bullet proof. A perk is immune to CUAV, thermal scope, Advanced UAV. Juggernaut dies from one grenade. Killstreaks die too fast; pavelow ("heavily armored") gets shot down before it can shoot one bullet. Last stand is still in the game; deathstreaks are in the game. Elite fails at launch; trying to cut costs with minimal servers was a bad idea. Leaderboards full of boosters and hackers (more played time than the game has even been out). Too casual and noob friendly. I feel like I'm wearing paper instead of kevlar with the 1 to 2 bullet deaths. Players blend into the environment too well. The spawn system is broken; players spawning out of the blue not next to a friendly player, but behind enemies. Campers and noobs are rewarded too much. The SMGs all suck, no bullet penetration making double kills near impossible with them unless pulling host / 4 bars.

Major problem with "head peaking"; On your screen all you see is the tippy top of their hair sticking out, where as they see their entire gun peaking over.

Maps are OK, a few of them too cluttered with unwallable objects. All the rifles look the same. The sound is horrible; m60 sounds like it's shooting plastic, footsteps are barely distinguishable from ambient noise (I'm wearing headphones that hurt my ears from being too loud sometimes).
Oh yes, match making takes forever; lobbies take longer to fill up than the game takes to end; not to mention the 45 second intermission between rounds causes people to leave simply from taking too long. Did I also already mention that bullets don't register half the time?
Last few months of Black Ops was a FAR superior product. Perhaps MW3 simply needs time to patch problems. I still wonder why they request the help of an inexperienced (Sledgehammer) team instead of asking Treyarch who have plenty of experience. Graphics do not bother me, if I wanted good graphics I'd play PC; also 60 FPS with OK graphics is still superior to 30 FPS with great graphics when it comes to shooters. I would consider BF3 at this point but I do not like large maps and vehicles. So I am stuck playing this or nothing at all.

Now that another C.O.D has said to becoming out next year (surprise) I hope whom ever makes it leaves the comfort of the C.O.D bubble and changes the series completely. Take a step outside of the box and change the formula, use a new graphics engine, and let's not make it about Russians. Seeing as Nazis have been over killed in the games, it seems the whole terrorists working with Russians or visa versa will get old as well if it already hasn't. And yes that goes for Battlefield. I've heard that the game feels like a $60 dollar add-on and that's what it does feel like. Did I pay for the name or the game? Probably the name. If anyone from Activision reads this, take some pointers from EA and DICE, and expand and change and try new things with your game. So far your a one trick pony and after awhile your oohs and ahhhs will become boos and blahs. I'd be bad if you ran the C.O.D franchise in the ground like you did Guitar Hero. All of this was very foreseeable and has simply made me happy that I got this game for free from a friend who can't play it anymore after his PS3 broke (little sister poured milk on it :P).

The main problem with Call of Duty is the constant use of the same exact gameplay with close to no changes in each sequel. Now, you might be saying, "Well if Call of Duty made a huge innovation many people wouldn't be happy!" and you would be right. However, there is a solution to this. Stop. Making. New. CODS. The series is already on its eight title, and has failed to make large changes since the fourth one. Even worse, the only good change since the first one is the graphics. The major change in call of duty 4 was the addition of class customization. However, it's safe to say this wasn't a good change. I'm not saying that Russians shouldn't be using M4A1s, and that Americans shouldn't use an AK-47, like how it is in Battlefield 3. Call of Duty isn't meant to be realistic. If it was realistic, no one should be running around with a 30 pound sniper rifle faster than with a 10 pound light machine gun. However, the problem with all of this customization is that due to the serious lack of limits, players are free to exploit a single imbalance with the correct customization kits, forcing everyone to use the exact same class if they want to play a fair game. In battlefield 3, with the exception of a certain scope (which is being fixed soon anyway), the limitations on our customizations balance the game quite a bit.

The kill animations were still rag doll, the same sounds, the same non-destructable environments with the same measly amount of environmental bullet damage. How cool could it have been to pull out your light machine gun and totally shred the environment? Instead we have same same superficial bullet holes that guns made back in COD4. How cool would it have been to have dynamic environments? You air strike a building and then have 3 different types of rubbled building that would appear in its place for the remainder of the game. How cool would it have been to shoot somebody and have them fall off a ledge and come crashing down with a THUMP in a cloud of dust or nail them with a shotgun and have them fly backwards crashing into a table or wall? But no, we're stuck with the same old 1997 animations.

The maps were probably the biggest disappointment. There wasn't one pure sniper map in the game (nothing even close to wasteland, afghan, or derail). The maps didn't seem to cater to team games (having your team pinned down in a firefight with the other team); they were all just run around solo and get shot in the back. In cod4 especially, it seemed like there was a sense of friendly and enemy territory and I found myself respawning with my team who were engaged in battle a lot. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that everyone got UAV so there was a better sense of where the enemy was. IDK, i'm starting to ramble...

In short, I just thought they needed to innovate more instead of relying on the same old engine.

This year, even more so than last I have been extremely let down by COD. The maps are so poorly constructed that at you are open to attack from several angles AT ALL TIMEs due to the abundance of tight corners and back passages. This forces you to roll in a pack and or get gunned down as soon as you let off a round exposing your position. I realsie they did this to stop camping but its merely does this at the cost of playablity. You basically find yourself FORCED to roll with a pack of noobish amauters mindlesy avenging the death of d guy next to you while your enemy does the same. IT JUST ONE BIG CLUSTER **** like me you play alone this is doubly anoying as you want to go your own way but realsie this means at best getting one kill before being shot in the back. Infinity Ward have apparently suufered the loss of several key members of their team causing them to bring in Sledgehammer Games to compensate. They Failed! Expand

You would think that after six years they would at least have made a new graphics engine. The game is almost the same as Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2, except for some maps, perks and a new killstreak system. How about some real originality, huh? Seriously, if you want a good shooter, buy Battlefield 3.

Same old game. Its sad that they made another bajillion dollars on what essentially is an expansion pack. The story plays ilke a best of Michael Bay movie. The multiplayer is the biggest disappointment... Absolutely nothing new. Spawning system is garbage as you spawn into enemy fire. CoD is on its way to destroying the FPS.

This game really feels like a expansion map, the old graphics are back, the same gameplay is back, almost everything is back.
What you can do now is save all your stats and so you can show it to your friends. Really? This call of dutys are getting worse for every year that is going, not wonder, they keep releasing a new call of duty every year. REMEMBER GUITAR HERO? this is

If you can not afford MW3 DONT WORRY you actually might of owned an early copy of it! its called MW2!!! What a huge failure! The huge problems that were in the MW2 were not changed at all and with the graphics not even being any better DONT waste your money. This Game sucked! The single player, multi player, and anything else is the same. They couldn't even change the split screen mode.If you can not afford MW3 DONT WORRY you actually might of owned an early copy of it! its called MW2!!! What a huge failure! Right now when you play survivor mode the split screen does not cover up the screen but a portion of it in order to display the maps .... dumb
4 player split screen (One of the most fun features) was still dumbed down and nothing added to it. People want to be able to play with there friends on the couch and what better way to do that then 4 player split screen. Well MW3 has that but nothing that keeps us playing. Survivor mode was stupid, only 2 player split-screen? really? IF YOU ARE GOING TO CONTINUE TO SH!T OUT GAMES THEN ATLEAST MAKE THEM FUN!

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
