Possibly the biggest disappoint of any game release on the XBOX 360 so far. Viva Pinata shines in comparison. Dragonball Z meets Comedy Central's Drawn Together meets France 3's Code Lyoko and Aladdin. An epic RPG that does not satisfy the ears, eyes, or mind of a creative gamer.

This game is difficult to rate because it was clearly made for small children. This beeing said, imagine this game only getting even easier during progress. So you make your way through the embarrassing storyline, dealing with the embarrassing char design and storytelling, hoping that the game gets better until it is over. Waste of time, about 150 Gamerscore, a negative review at metascore, one more Blue Dragon on ebay and thats about it. 3 out of 10 from me. Expand

This game is just incredibly boring. I don't know how it has got such good reviews, it's as if people are afraid they're insulting the mighty fighting fantasy or something. I thought someone had to give this game a bad review. I would give it an average score for being an average game but in this particular case I think we have to factor in how much of a let down this game This game is just incredibly boring. So I want to say from the bottom of my heart I love anime. Nope i can't do that i want to play a game if i wanted alot of dialog I would watch the show.

Second reason: I hated the story, I know that I bought the game and hey if i bought it its cause i know a little bit about the show, well guess what that was the first time i have ever hear of any of those characters and you know what i hated all of them except that little dancing pikachu guy Marumaro and even he got really annoying. I only bought the game for three bucks, man i can't believe i wasted three bucks on that game. The game had some good parts to tho, the world the characters were in looked like Dragonball, and the art work for all the characters was really good. But a really bad story, and bizarre events that happened for no reason what so ever( the dance after you save pikachu's village) was what killed it. I recommend that you play a good RPG like Final Fantasy and stay clear of this horrible game.

Poor rpg game. Failed on all areas. Childish game, childish characters. Poor cheap and badly designed. No decent storyline and poor upgrade system. Would not recommend this game.

    Grindfest

I've played a lot of JRPGS in my time and seen what works, and what doesn't and Blue Dragon on paper sounds awesome with character design by Akira Toriyama and Nobuo Uematsu on staff? It should have been amazing but unfortunately it isn't, far from it. BD has some interesting ideas such a the monster fight battles which can be exploited for easier EXP but ultimately, most of your time will be spent grinding in the same areas for exp and levels so the next area will be easier or to beat bosses in which most of the time, if this is your first playthrough you'll be struggling, most bosses have gimmicks such as use a particular spell/skill at a weakpoint etc and usually are impossible to beat without figuring out the patterns, often not obvious at all.

Blue Dragon is more of a grindfest, with so many half-baked ideas and simply annoying aspects that entirely ruins what could have been a true classic, even back in 2007 this doesn't work and there were far better JRPGS on the market at the time.

First offending issue is random boss battles without any warning, most of the time they can kill your party pretty easily if you are not careful, especially if 'ding' you haven't grinded your shadow classes or have the wrong set equipped at the time, another huge issue is the fact that spells often take 2 turns to cast unless you play the mini-game of time 'timing' to the sweet spot which is far harder than it sounds, boss difficulty often spikes significantly with some bosses, or even mini-bosses being exceptionally overpowered and especially difficult on the first playthrough, especially if you haven't grinded your classes up enough.

Story is also half-baked which takes far too long to really pan out, with the main character being more annoying than most protags, music isn't too bad but honestly? This isn't Uematsu best work either, its just passable, the boss music doesn't even really fit in well and the voices when a monster flees, or you join etc gets annoying and isn't needed at all.

Graphics for 2007 are passable but once again, honestly? There were far better JRPGS on the market at the time with better graphics. Combat is turn based but feels slow, clunky and boring with the emphasis on grind otherwise you make it far more difficult to beat bosses, and as stated many times you'll run into a boss fight unprepared or a mini-boss that will 'game over' you if not prepped or even ready for it.

Overall, Blue Dragon for me is a hard miss - even back in 2007 I would have rated this pretty low. If you like this game and/or are completely fine with grind for progression, then you'll probably have a much better time playing Blue Dragon, sure its got its fans and if you enjoy - you do you, but this game isn't for everyone which is a shame.

I am blown away by these scores. It is so incredibly boring. I spent a night and a morning on this and that is time I'll never get back and it was a truly unentertaining time.

There is nothing to like, from the battle system, to the graphics, the story, the OST. I did notice a couple of nice touches in the sound but nothing special and a lot of the rest of the sound was disappointing.

I am currently playing FF13 too and it blows this away on all fronts. Yet another one in the trade in pile thanks to endless praise on a pile of junk.

I'm just glad it was super cheap. Still have to spend fuel money to go and trade this in. Bad everything, wasted my time and money. 0/10

I do not understand what is the appeal of this game, nothing in it is very interesting.
The story, the characters and the gameplay are all very lacking.
Its a waste of money, I do not recommend you buy it.

  1. Blue Dragon finds the perfect balance between linearity and excessive freedom - it doesn't embarrass you by holding your hand, and yet it doesn't just leave you alone crying in the supermarket. Hironobu Sakaguchi (the FF creator and Blue Dragon mastermind) is as good a parent as Shigeru Miyamoto.
  2. Where so many RPGs deliver dry experiences that adhere too closely to traditional type, Mistwalker delivers an RPG that pushes the genre in all the right directions. With supreme technical qualities and gameplay to match, it’s little wonder that Blue Dragon has revived the 360 in Japan. [JPN Import]
  3. Blue Dragon's light-hearted charm and role-playing goodness fills a lacking aspect of the Xbox 360's lineup. [JPN Import]
