GazFlintSep 1, 2009I don't get why so many people like this game, its really repetitive, the crontrols are clunky and at times it's so stupidly hard, I died about five times in a minute once. It was just weird, it didn't know whether it wanted to be an RPG or a shooter, and didn't have the finesse of either. Most over rated game ever.

DylanBAug 24, 2009When I first played Bioshock, I thought "Okay pretty good but I probably won't play it again soon". I did though and I enjoyed it more and more ever time I played it. Big Daddy's needed to be harder at the end of the game but thats alright. I thought the story was pretty cool too... I hope Bioshock 2 isn't just a rip-off of this one with multiplayer.

JohnS.Aug 22, 2009This was the best game i have ever played! the amazing art the great atmosphere, and the best story in videogame history makes this a 20 out of 10!!! but i was limited to 10 out of 10!! You owe it to yourself to buy this game NOW!!!

PaulD.Aug 20, 2009This game was great in all aspects. The story, setting, mood, and characters were all top notch. I hope part 2 can live up to the first's reputation.

-
CitizenWolfAug 18, 2009This game bored the pants off me. I really don't see what all the hype was about. So it was set underwater. So what. The only aspect that amused me were the accents. They reminded me of home. Other than that I thought it was dull.

calmcAug 2, 2009Fun and addictive, despite being somewhat overhyped. It's as if some major reviewers need some sort of spiritual significance or validation in their lives, so they seriously look to friggin video games for deeper experiences. Bioshock has been propped up like that, so consequently gamers are expecting some Godlike experience. It's a great and interesting gaming experience.

AlexanderD.Jul 22, 2009This game was simply an amazing experience to say the least. Everything about it was unique from the weapon upgrades to the underwater utopia that the game takes place in. You can hack turrets, set traps, or go in head on to fight the Big Daddy in order to collect the ADAM from the Little Sister. Watch out for those Splicers as you make your way through the city or Rapture!

KeikoCMar 29, 2009Awesome game, a bit late on the review, but better late than never. So many random down-voters for this game. Especially this one: "Eric B. gave it a0: Me no understand to complicated me want smash in halo no multiplayer to me want kill people for no reason. To many character and plot is hard me cant understand." i mean cmon.

KentLFeb 14, 2009BioShock is a first person shooter that doesn't offer the excitement of other games in the genre. Beyond that, it has uninteresting settings and boring enemies. The only good thing that the game offers is the story, but it is dragged down by the rest of the game.

DomSJan 2, 2009this game is easily one of the best games on the 360. The story line is epic keeping you hooked right to the end aswell as the actuall gameplay and twisted characters. Although the actual horror element of the game wears off after a while it is still a fantastic game to play even if you are a hardcore horror fan who wants the scariest game possible.

-
NicholasH.Dec 12, 2008This game was mediocre, not good and especially not great. Problem is, the hype machine made the game to be much more than it is. If you expect a lot of this game, prepare for disappointment. If you expect little, you will have a "decent" experience.

whizzmNov 3, 2008dont see what all the fuss is about. i mean it is a good game, but there is no way it is one of the best games ever. i played it for about a week and got bored of it. i love fps and have been playing them for nearly 20 years and i can safely say there are better ones out there. its a game worth buying but it is very overhyped

MikeW.Sep 28, 2008It is one of the best games I have ever played. The storyline is great. The variety of weapons and plasmids is amazing. It is different than just a regular shooter. The enemies are unique and you are always looking out for them. The graphics and sound are great. Overall it is one of the best games that has ever came out...on any gaming system.
-
-
SamiL.Sep 25, 2008Great graphics, great sounds, great feeling and in general great game. Only the endings were a bit disappointing.

-
ChrisP.Sep 4, 2008Bioshock is one of a vanishingly small number of games that offers such a well crafted and immersive experience that it's not to be missed by anyone who plays video games (At all, ever :). The story is compelling, the characters are quirky and interesting, and the visuals are eyeball popping impressive. Two thumbs and a genetically modified prehensile tail up!

KyleB.Aug 20, 2008This game screams epic. The Smart AI and the interesting twists and turns just make it so demented and fun! I highly suggest that you get this game. The world down there is fun, and you will be grinding your teeth as you go down dark corridors waiting for something to pop out at you!
-
-
EliF.Aug 17, 2008It's not what K.Levine claimed, but it's beautiful and compelling. If this game resonated with people despite having only minimal emergent qualities, will Ken change his focus next time? (Somehow I doubt it...).

RafaelM.Aug 7, 2008For me this game is much better than Cod4 or Halo because I think its much better an inmersive game than a war game. The people wo think this game sucks, think it again.

AnonymousMCAug 1, 2008This game is the pinnacle of interactive entertainment as we know it. Immersive gameplay, wonderful music, incredible graphics, and quite possibly the best story in a video game EVER. The only two games on the 360 to even RIVAL it are GTA: IV, and The Orange Box. Playing it is an amazing experience, and definitely says something about the future of gaming.

FelixSJul 30, 2008An intelligent, different FPS, that is so much better than Halo, due to its interesting storyline and unique art direction.
-
-
CrunkP.Jul 29, 2008It's difficult for me to find a FPS shooter that holds my interest. Call of Duty 4? Boring. Halo 3? Boring. But Bioshock? AMAZING! It's more than just walk around and shoot monsters/people. You have to figure things out. The storyline is engaging - I loved playing it at night with the surround sound...very creepy! A flawless game, in my opinion. I need more games like this.
-
-
AnonymousMCJul 27, 2008I think that people who love halo and only halo should NOT review a game based on the fact that it takes some thought to understand. In other words, IT IS A GAME FOR GROWN-UPS, YOU WON'T UNDERSTAND (Also, don't give a bad review just b/c you're too stupid to understand, or you got a bad copy of the game)

AnonymousMCJul 10, 2008The game itself was great, with easy controls, haunting music, and graphics that properly displayed the atmosphere. Moving beyond that, the obvious undertones of Ayn Rand boost it above other games. Rapture's president's name, Andrew Ryan, is a partial anagram of Ayn Rand and Atlas is a feferance to Atlas Shrugged. It really is masterpiece.

-
DominicM.Jul 5, 2008I simply cannot believe the amount of praise this game receives. After I read all the reviews, I figured this was an AAA title. I bought it, and completed it in two days. First playthrough was good, the second time I realized just how boring the game was. It was short, the powers were lacking, and ammo runs out so fast you use the wrench most of the time. Story was alright I guess. Overrated.
-

JRMethodJun 11, 2008Easily the greatest FPS game I have played in a loooong time, if not the best I've ever played. Intriguing story, character design, gameplay, and even replayablity, which is impressive for a linear FPS. Simply put, Bioshock is awesome and if you haven't played it from start to finish, you're really missing out.

-
-
Gamertag:UunsterApr 23, 2008It's Good but the whole shooting and health. is weird (probably because halo gears of war a call of duty 4) it doesn't aim and health doesn't regain is just weird. But bad ass!
-
-
BobTheImpalorApr 19, 2008Simply Stunning, er well maybe rather complexly stunning. With an atmosphere that portrays the dystopian 1950's environment so well and a pulse pounding story it was the one game of '07 that truly impressed me, and while it may have its faults it still made me feel like a citizen of rapture.
-
-
SymboliaApr 18, 2008Somehow I think reviewers are blinded by its uniqueness. Of course that is a good thing, especially I love the '50s atmosphere. Shooting itself doesn't match those of Halo and Gears Of War. The main disappointment was that your character learns to do everything in just one play through.
-
-
FeartrainMar 22, 2008The most imaginative, dark and twisted piece of fantasy gaming ever! This post-apocalyptic, dystopian, semi-RPG survival-horror shooter, will trap you miles beneath the surface, giving you the sense of hopelessness and the desperation of no escape.
-
-
ChrisLMar 21, 2008This is a fun game. It wasn't the best game of the year in my opinion but was close. Multiplayer could put Bioshock over the top. In comparison I rated Halo 3 a 9, COD4 an 8, Assassins Creed a 7, Forza2 an 8..... You can pick it up cheap used, do it.
-
-
WrathboneMar 19, 2008Overhyped? Absolutely. While this game sports some of the best graphics capable on the 360 or PC, it's ultimately a very pretty coating over an otherwise mediocre game. It's pretty much everything that's ever been done in a game from Doom to Half Life to Prey. There's really nothing new or fresh here.
-
-
SchimmiSchimmicocoapuffMar 16, 2008Beautiful game, not only visually but immersfully, and the story line is beyond beautiful, it is magnificent!
-
-
SamuelS.Mar 16, 2008As gripping a narrative that any FPS has a right to have. Never mind the airtight controls, total contextual immersion, and creepy sound design, this game will pull you in and keep you there until the end. Then you may scratch your head a bit and get the notion that reading up on Ayn Rand might be in order, but that's all on you.

BopP.Mar 2, 2008This is a very good game, I just don't think it is as good as it is hyped up to be. The constant shooting got very repetitve and boring, at least to me. I also don't think the plasmids were as good as they could of been.

AnonymousMCFeb 3, 2008I'll be honest, when I read most of the reviews, I figured this game would be your average shooter. I was completely wrong...I never expected to get drawn in as tight as I have...this definitely ranks up in my top 5 games of all time. Simply amazing and refreshing.
-
-
DylanL.Feb 1, 2008Great game but the story is just plane unintersting and no multiplayer wtf?
-
-
GabrielR.Jan 31, 2008The most fun I ever had in a first person shooter ...it is beautiful to look at and the story rolls with the play so well you do not even notice the plot turns and twists you will encounter...only grip is as others have said is not being to explore the city better.
-
-
DavidJan 24, 2008Unparallelled in atmosphere, visual and audio design, this is a near-perfect example of using setting and scenery to tell a story. Gameplay-wise it's a reasonably conventional action-RPG with some interesting twists (evoking strong, positive memories of Deus Ex), but it's the superlative style that lifts BioShock well above the norm.

Awards & Rankings
-
In a nutshell, beyond any shadow of doubt, BioShock is an excellent single-player shooter experience. The undeniable quality of this title and its emphasis on true and not pseudo-mature storytelling and character development make it a must-have for every self-respecting gamer.
-
Its weak link is its unsatisfying no-skill-required combat, which might aim this one just over the head of the average Halo fan. But if you want to get a little fancy, there's a lot of fun to be had with some of the game's more indirect fighting methods. It builds an amazing atmosphere by using terrific graphics and sound to set a creepy mood. But BioShock's real strengths are as a compelling work of interactive fiction, and as a unique ride through a warped world with some great payoff built into its mysterious plot. If that description has you even the least bit interested, you won't be disappointed one bit.
-
The first-person shooter's great looking, has an engrossing storyline, a perfect balance of action and exploration and a totally customizable combat system that can be described as nothing less than video game rapture.
