Not without it faults, but this is one awesomely fun game that feels like strategy really pays off. Now it just needs patching-but still my game of the year.

Why do so many people hate on this game for the single player campaign? First off if you buy shooters for their single player only then this is not the game for you. Well let me first say that this game is a real big step up from Battlefield 2. The graphics, sound, and multiplayer are its strong suits. The only element of this game that feels out of place is the single player story. It feels like the single player and multiplayer are two different games with the same engine. Overall though this game will keep you coming back for more

Battlefield 3 is without a doubt the Shooter of the Year. There is not a better multiplayer experience than this game right here. The realism that was put into this game is astonishing... from the lighting, sound effects, jumping over ledges/fences, flashlights, laser sights... this game has it all. There are a few minor cons, but it should not be hard to look past them and focus on the great things it does. For example, jets are extremely challenging to level up at first seeing as how all you have is a machine gun. However, once you can finally unlock the flares and then the missiles, you will be a force. The dog fights are intense! The maps are great in this game as well. They remind me of the old CoD4's maps only much larger. Rush Mode is the best game mode. It requires squads to coordinate attacks in order to win. You must plant bombs to blow up M-COM stations if you are attacking, and you defend them if you are defending. Conquest is another great game mode. In this mode you have to control certain areas in order to win. It's similar to a Domination type game. Team Deathmatch is also in this game as well. The Single Player is not the best, but its bearable. The graphics and set pieces are great in this game. The live action events are annoying, but they make sense for the plot. If you are a veteran of CoD and are looking for another war game to play on the side or to take over your love of CoD, this game is a much more suitable substitution than games such as Homefront or Mag.e Expand

I loved Battlefield Bad Company 2's multiplayer mode, it was fun, innovative, and time-consuming, to me this was the best multiplayer game out there. After playing it for over 20 hours I can safely say that it has lived up it's predecessor's standards. The new guns, vehicles, and the new Frostbite 2 engine run perfectly. Although there are some hitches in the gameplay in the middle of a match. I noticed that sometimes some of the gadgets glitch and end up not doing anything, for example one time one of my squad mates got killed right next to me and so I took out my defibrillator to revive him, but no matter how hard I tried i couldn't revive him. There are just small hitches in the game, most of the time they aren't noticeable but on rare occasions they can hinder your gameplay. Now I will move to the Campaign, it is not very good, at all, compared to the multiplayer experience single player suffers greatly. The campaign consists of 1 minute of gunplay and then a quick time event, also the AI is far to easy at some points, and then at other points, the AI is so difficult I die after 2 seconds. The campaign is not good at all, but the multiplayer is where it is at. I would give this game a perfect ten for an innovative multiplayer but unfortunately a single player campaign was added and it dragged the game down. If you're going to buy this game, buy it for the multiplayer, not the campaign. Expand

The multiplayer is outstanding and there is a lot of content. The single player is ok. Honestly, I didn't buy this game for that reason. It's limiting, but it shows off the impressive frostbite 2 engine. The length of the campaign is about 6 hours, which is about 2 hours longer than call of duties new game. Still, multiplayer is where it's at. Conquest is my favorite mode and in my opinion the most balanced. Battlefield 3's multiplayer alone is worth the price of admission. I highly recommend it. Expand

With BF 3 things changed. The multiplayer is fantastic. It is a great change of pace from the run and gun approach from Halo, Cod and Gears. playing with friends is brings a tactical advantage Like have on guy use a laser painter for everyone to lock on and all the things you can unlock are surprising. You can spend entire games flying helicopters or jets, or driving a tank. the sniping is the most realistic out of any game none of the so called "quickscoping" with a .50 cal rifle which would dislocate your shoulder. I could play an entire game just rolling around as an EOD robot. Even with all the annoying little things like mortaring from your spawn where no one can kill you and a game where everyone on the other team snipes or everyone on your team is in your spawn waiting for Jets, i think this game deserves a 9.0 and if the campaign was better, probably the only place COD beat BF, it would get a 10 from me. it is a weird feeling when you stop to admire the sun reflecting off the dust in the air, ending shortly by some sort of weapon killing you. There is also a satisfaction from getting someone else's dog tag from sneaking behind them. BF gives an experience no other Modern FPS can give you where you can shoot a hole in a building above some one and having the destruction killing them, rain hell from above in a aircraft or just blow **** up in a tank the mechanics of all of which are just difficult enough that you can't be invincible in any of them. BC2 was a decent game, but it had fundamental flaws and felt like the second half had been rushed in time for release, but it had the whole destructible cover going for it which added to the realistic experience - something that I hoped would be added and improved upon in BF3. Thankfully EA and it's Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment division delivered, and ultimately gets my vote over it's rival MW3 - albeit only just, simply because of the more realistic element it employs during the campaign. From both a graphical and gameplay stance.

Saying that though BF3 certainly isn't flawless. Screen tearing shows it's ugly face, along with a number of occasions where the frame rate suffers, but for the most part it is a pretty solid effort. Presentation wise as you'd expect with anything EA related it certainly delivers, along with an atmospheric soundtrack which keeps you gripped from beginning to end. On a personal note I enjoyed the campaign, although it was a little short and too dark to see what was going on at times, but I don't really see why it has been widely criticized so much. As first person shooters go it has to be one of the best of this generation, and would be almost perfect if they could just iron out a few niggles here and there.

I only played the single player campaign, so my comments are restricted to that aspect of the game. The storyline is pretty weak. Now on the the multiplayer... Which should have been the reason you played any Battlefield games to begin with. Its outstanding. It sets the new standard for what military style multiplayer should be. Some of the maps are just a bit smaller than Battlefield Bad Company 2, but its hardly anything to complain about. The maps are still the biggest in the genre. There is something for everybody. If you like run and gun style much like call of duty play death match, but careful that wall your hiding behind probably wont be there very long unlike other games. If you want team based play conquest and take full advantage of the epic maps, vehicles and destruction as you see fit. The realism here is topped only by games like America's Army. The game looks great for an adaptation from PC to Console (which won't be at its best til the next gen of consoles come out). Campaign mode is the only place I felt it lack on. Now I don't mean I didn't like the single player just that it felt like it missed something. Overall the graphics, story, game play were great. Multiplayer is what I really got this game for, a change from MW. What's great about it is the fact that this is a team game. Of course you can run and gun as a loner but the fun is working in your squad. If you can join or make a squad and if you work together you can destroy anything in your path. Also the vehicles are great no more kill streaks to get a helo that you don't fly. There's nothing better than to bring a tank to a gun fight or to blow up a building with the enemy in it. I like Battlefield 3, but it is a more strategic experience, which is great. The maps are gigantic, so there isn't constant shooting. Not to say that there isn't intense moments - there is plenty. Compared to MW3 (or any other Call of Duty since 4) there is almost zero customization. You don't know how badly I want a rocket launcher in my Assault Rifle loadout, but it isn't allowed and that's part of the strategy. This latest Battlefield has also added many new character animations, and some are pretty cool. The ones that interfere with gameplay are so not cool. When going prone (new ability), there is a fairly lengthly animation during which time you are unable to fire your weapon. Getting up from the prone position is even worse. I get whacked about 50% of the time that I use the "prone" function. The uber-touchy right stick (360) activates the function, sometimes whether you want it to or not. It makes me so mad I could swallow my tongue. Battlefield 3 does many, many things right and it's a great looking game. The brand new Frostbite 2 engine makes the game seem almost like you're in a war, with the lighting and destructible environment and the massive scale of the environment around you. The multi-player makes up for the campaign as it offers hours worth of unlocking, instead of simply restarting the player 15 times. I have been playing as the engineer class the entire time and it took about 20 hours of playing time to unlock all weapons and gadgets. And after that 20 hours and receiving approximately 212 score per minute i have unlocked that, so it does take a long time to unlock. There is also many unlocks for many different things. About 12-18 weapon accessories(number of accessories depend on the weapon) for 53 different types of weapons, 10-16 unlocks(also depending on the vehicle) for 24 different vehicles. Also the battles seem more like wars, especially conquest. The player can be in one area of the massive maps and not even know the battles going on around them. While the infantry fights on the ground the jets are in massive dogfights above. For example, when playing conquest on Caspian Border, one fireteam(squad) may be holding a position and get dozens of kills for each player while the rest of the platoon is fighting for control of the other positions. Teamwork is also a major factor for Battlefield. It doesn't matter if your team is just a four man squad or if the entire 32 player team(for conquest on PC only) are working together you will succeed. Battlefield also offers players more things, just two months into the games release they are already offering a DLC with four maps ten weapons and three vehicles. Overall i would give battlefield 9/10 only because the campaign wasn't the best it could have been but all other aspects of the game are fantastic. i hope this helps anyone thinking about buying this game Expand

The spawn system in the online game is a huge problem as you either appear too far away from your opponents or too close. Another problem is that they really downsized the maps which is a great shame! The whole fun of Battlefield Bad Company 2 ws that you were always on edge, not knowing where your opponent might be, and always had great fun exploring, thus eliminating "camping". There isn't that much of it in Battlefield 3 but it's becoming more frequent within the game as compared to its predecessor where it's virtually non-existant. Going on to positives tho, the graphic updates they have added to the game really is immense. Also a major plus for the game is the upgrade of vehecles available to you and your teammates and that they have all upgraded health so it's no longer possible to simply shoot 1 rocket or detonate 2 C4's and expect easy points. Overall I Give this game a very fair 9/10 and hope DICE keep up the good work! Expand

For this being the first time for me buying into a Battlefield game, it was a good investment. Being jets, tanks and helicopters. Much the same as CoD, but that comes with a game like this.

I did however find campaign very...... cliche and typical. I found it however a more "realistic" experience to an "actual" war experience unlike CoD's multiple rail shooter sequences and constant slow mo explosion actions. It just lacked the story needed to make it a good campaign. I did however enjoy the character development they managed with the multiple characters they jumped to. Unlike the many characters which die in other games, i somewhat felt sad by the soldier who was executed, this may have been because of the circumstance.
Overall, its a great game with an awesome multiplayer experience.

To be honest, I told myself I'd never buy anything from EA again - they're just... terrible. That changed when I went to a friend's house and saw this game being played. That changed when I went to a friend's house and saw this game being played. If you played the beta, then let me say the actual game is completely different. The beta was probably a poor marketing decision in my opinion. Anyhow, after playing other games online, my confidence in the direction that game development in general is taking had started to waver. In general rather than getting bigger and better, they were being dumbed down, to smaller and lamer. No one was ever pushing the envelope. Year after year the same games were being released that completely lacked innovation - from new installments of COD to Halo. Don't get me wrong the first Halo game was great, but then I guess they decided to rest on their laurels, something that the COD franchise has decided is a career move. While PC gamers may scoff, there is no doubt that even they see the effects of the dumbing down of games - as developers reach for a broader audience and develop their games for console and then port that to PC. To me, however, BF3 is that breath of fresh air that I've been waiting for. The maps are enormous. The weapons are fairly realistic and have selector switches. If you had asked me in 2003 when I was playing Ghost Recon I'd say that's pretty much standard, and now that it's 2011 even more so, but sadly it is not. The gameplay options are also pretty vast. There are a ton of different vehicles in which you can play around, as well as four different main classes that can be customized in different ways. You can have 12v12 which again, if you had told me 10 years ago that 24 players on a server would be as far as we would come by 2012, I may have cried... speaking on the development of games in general it's kinda sad. However, compared to other console games out right now, it's obviously very nice. BF3 does have some flaws which are generally overshadowed by the immense fun you'll be having while playing it. For one, the engineer class is clearly the superior class, at least on open vehicle maps. On smaller and indoor maps, the class system that forces teamwork shines a bit better, but on open maps your squad will often consist of four engineers. I have heard some complaints that the larger maps a bit too large, which does have some merit. Although you generally can spawn pretty close to the action, that doesn't detract from the point that, as mainly a conquest player, there can be up to 5 territories, with only 12 players on each team. A bit of math puts between 2 and 3 players at each territory, but since players generally roll in squads of four that kind of divide doesn't generally happen. You can obviously just station a squad at 3/5 of the territories, although things never work out so pretty. Basically what I'm getting at it that I like the map size, but feel that often there are not enough players to fill it - I will quite often move from territory to territory and neutralize/capture two or three in a row without finding any opposition. A lot of people have also complained about joining servers on a squad. The thing is, that since there are dedicated servers as compared to a matchmaking p2p system, there are usually only about four slots free on any server, which is usually two on each team. So when you first join you may be separated from your squad. After one or sometimes two games you can then switch teams as people leave and new people join. It's a minor thing to complain about, as I don't mind killing my friends just a little bit, and after one game we are usually all on the same team in the same squad, ready to have a blast. Anyhow this is getting to be a bit long winded, but I will finish by saying BF3 has really raised the bar for console FPS games. My faith in games has been momentarily restored, and I will never play a lesser FPS. If you haven't tried it, then give it a whirl, I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Expand

Easily the best FPS since Halo 1,2,3. balanced except for the USAS-12, Absolutely Gorgeous. Lacking Modes but more support is coming. A true "team work" game... my only real issue is that most of the people on the game suck. i constantly find myself at the top of the leaderboards while my teammates do little. but that is probably cuz the game is only 2 months old. tight controls, realisticEasily the best FPS since Halo 1,2,3. balanced except for the USAS-12, Absolutely Gorgeous. If you're looking for a great single player campaign you're out of luck, rent BF3 or pick it up in the bargain bin. If you're looking for the best online multiplayer action then BF3 is your game hands down.

While Battlefield 3 was aiming to be the biggest name this holiday season, and while it has made strides towards knocking off Modern Warfare 3, it misses the mark. That's not to say it is a bad game, it's a very good one, but the polish and excitement that is found on the Call of Duty series feels missing here. Still, there are much worse games you could end up with this holiday season, and the competition between the two series should heat up significantly in the next few years.

This experience alone sums up what Battlefield 3 is about. It isn't a John Rambo run and gun shooter and it shouldn't really be compared to MW3 in terms of how you play it. For players to truly understand the Battlefield experience you need to embrace the teamwork by joining a squad and calling out your spotted enemies, as after all, sometimes you also need your back covered too.
