They're two totally different experiences, and they both excel in what they're trying to do on the multiplayer level. The only thing that truly hurts BF3 is the fact that it had to be trimmed for consoles, but it's not BF's fault that consoles simply cannot handle it. It would have been like trying to port Crysis 1 without the CryEngine3. BF3 shows us that the end of this console generation is here, and that this generation is now holding back innovation and the future of games (seriously, wtf is the physics engine on MW? Am I the only one that is dissapointed that grenades dont move wood pallets or outright destroy them? Seriously, Source has better physics implemented in it) They're different animals... that's all- and lets be honest, BF3 does way more for the gaming community than MW, as it stands, will ever be able to do. BF3 will only get better from here as the expansions roll out. Expand

Online play is fluid, realistic, and just fast paced enough to keep your attention without making you have seizures. The graphics are amazing for a console game, on par with some of the best high-end PC graphic card required games. Personas don't look like cartoons anymore. The leveling system is a huge leap forward from the Bad Company 2. Highly recommend this one.

It's really addictive and unlike the cod games which is just run and shoot people, in Battlefield 3, you need to be tactical and be a responsible player in order to succeed. The best one to try on is the "Conquest Mode" coz it's fun and gives u more EXP. The other good thing that I like about this game is that almost 90% of the bugs and glitches on the BETA has been fixed and the remaining 10% is just some minor glitch which can be ignored like some minor running issues and other small stuff.. overall this game deserves a 9.5 but I'm rounding it up to 10. I'll start on campaign, boring if I'm honest, some great levels, some great set pieces, bit too linear, but campaigns usually need to be on shooters, its no ArmA is it! Scenes like thunder run or the first time you walk onto the deck of the aircraft carrier are very "wow this looks awesome" and its moments like that in the campaign that make it look better than its rivals, it plays well and looks good, although nowhere near as good as the pc version, iv installed both the game and texture lack and while impressive its still nowhere near to the pc version, Now the multiplayer, 30fps 720p (just) looks and plays good, its a change of pace to cod adding vehicles etc, but it does little to keep you hooked in and some server issues and lag etc have made some gamers have less than good experiences online, The squad features and clan options are lacking heavilly in a game that is supposed to thrive on team play, the levels although well designed and quite big have little in the way of choke points or areas to hold down with a squad, exept the smaller levels like metro,
Levelling up takes an eternity and can get boring,
The player cap at 24 is a step foreward but surely 32-40 would have been better, mag managed a smooth 256 on mag! Overall the game is let down by slow and boring levelling system, and poor squad and clan settings, a small player count and ea been server hoggers although dedi servers are great, they don't work for xbl! The player count could have been better and they could have done a console based app for battlelog, a great looking and sounding game, but not enough to hook you in unless your already a fan from 2005! Great effort and ill look forward to the updates and map pack,

And the reviews that say this is the best multiplayer game to date are right on. I'd say the only game that is comparable is Left 4 Dead. This game has changed warfare games for good.

After playing this for countless hours I do have some criticisms. The soldier skins. They're good, but extremely repetitive. It's kind of funny seeing three of the same soldiers side by side, twins and triplets everywhere. The unlocks. Some are great. Some don't work properly (dog tags). Some are repetitive. There should have been more unlocks. By the time you get to colonel there is really nothing new, and only very lengthy spans between dog tags are left. Something to be learned from mw2 would be the addictive unlocks.

There's also no way to communicate outside of your squad. And you should be able to communicate with the other team between matches. There is a bit of an issue of repeating maps before completing a full cycle. And with this, teams are switched up or you can be thrown into an entirely random game which all of a sudden has opposing strategy and unfamiliar teammates.

These are very minor flaws however and won't stop me from putting in hundreds of hours.

But what makes this game great is you can camp if you want, you can go guns a blazing, it depends on your ability to work with your teammates. It is very hard to run and gun by yourself, but if you have a couple of solid teammates you can run around the map and pick off the campers. Or work together as a team setting up camp and destroy the competition. I love the team element of the game even though I hardly ever wear a headset. The shooting controls are harder than MW and I like that. Game requires skill and team work. I understand why people like MW and I don't begrudge them, I've played it for many hours, but BF3 is a significant upgrade to BC2 whereas MW3 should be a DLC for MW2. Not to mention the newer maps are even smaller. This game does have some glitchy graphics on XBOX (even with the install) and sometimes matchmaker creates some oddly uneven games but overall I play a little almost every day and LOVE it! Expand

Considering the vastly obsolete hardware that dice had to work with, I write this review very impressed with how good they made the game look, graphics wise i can honestly say its the best on consoles period. Concerning bugs and lag online...well for lag consult your ISP, and for bugs that's just one of the flaws of frostbite 2. If you read the pc version reviews every reviewer mentions the glitches that come along with the engine, but it is forgiven due to the weighing of the pros vs. cons list. For TLDR people:

Not in the least bit a perfect game single player wise....but who wants to play battlefield single player ? Multiplayer has always been the selling point of the franchise.

The graphics and Visuals are incredible, the shear size and ability to explore the various maps is amazing and I am enjoying this game, when I can get online! Now moving on to my various complaints:

    1. The campaign provided nothing new to a the first person shooter warfare genre, however I played it and enjoyed myself for a few hours.
    2. The sever connectivity issues were never resolved in the BETA like they should have been.
    3. There is an enormous slue of glitches and hick ups in campaign and online (freezing, never ending loading screens, holes in maps, cinematic to gameplay triggers not going off (and vice a versa)). A complete lack of two player (split screen) gameplay.
    4. Midnight purchasers were not rewarded in any way what so ever by a greeting in the form of a 1.5 Gb download as soon as they got home.
    5. Next is both EA's and DICE's complete disregard for their fanbase. No updates on their forums at all besides, "we're aware of the issue." or, "maintenance is taking longer than expected." We have heard not one apology, not one condolence. All EA or DICE have publicly stated is that their game is the best and it's a COD killer. Sounds like they have become more concerned with beating CoD and less concerned with a quality product that will impress their fanbase.

Coming from a PC gamer who has bought and played every single BF game since 1943 I have to say that I love this game. I am going to throw one negative out there and say that the campaign isn't that great. It gives a fairly good story and has a lot of action but to be honest, it's a little bit dry, pretty easy, and fairly short . I am going to throw one negative out there and say that the campaign isn't that great. It gives a fairly good story and has a lot of action but to be honest, it's a little bit dry, pretty easy, and fairly short . Also, if you didn't enjoy the BC2 campaign or the MW2 campaign, then you probably wont enjoy this one (it feels like a mixture of both). However, I personally don't care at all about the campaign so I didn't include that in my score. The multiplayer and co-op are where it's at (If I did even take it into account, I would give the game a 9.7 and just round up since I can't give that type of score).

I'll first review the co-op because I wan't to leave the best for last. To simplify my emotions about co-op, I will just say that it's everything the campaign wasn't. Seriously. It's just a very fun set of missions that I've personally enjoyed a lot and they give you a good preparation for the multiplayer. They are a little short, but they are completely worth trying out if you have a friend to play it with.

    Now on to the multiplayer:

I've been a BF fan ever since the beginning and I have to say that the multiplayer for this game is everything I expected from DICE. One thing that I particularly love about the 360 version is the amazing server browser included. This is probably one of the best browser on consoles I have experienced so far. It gives you a very wide arrange of options that I've only so far seen on PC. It's just wonderful. Plus, [DICE] servers have a very helpful line if the server is full so once someone leaves, you will instantly join into a full game. The sizes of the maps also surprised me. From videos I've seen, the maps seemed very small compared to maps in other BF games. But when I played, I was very pleased to say that maps are very large in size. I wouldn't honestly say THE largest maps I've seen like in BF2 and such but they are almost there. If you've played Heavy Metal in BC2, Caspian is about twice to three times as large. The sound is wonderful too. I get goosebumps from listening to rockets fly by my head. Also, here's a tip: go to settings>audio then switch the sound from "hi-def" to "war tapes". The sounds get even better.

There are a few problems with being on a bad team (it's very easy to get on one) but that's more a problem with the players and not the game. If you do find yourself on one, I would suggest quitting the server and finding another one. This is really nothing new though. Uneven teams has been a problem since BF:1942. But I personally have my best moments when the game has even teams.

I won't review the graphics because you people can just see for yourself. I will tell you though that you need to dwnld the high-def texture pack. It does wonders and it barely takes any time at all to install.

To sum up, I would suggest skipping the SP altogether and just going to multiplayer. If you are like me and you have to play the campaign before you play the multiplayer then I would suggest that you go for co-op. It's a much better campaign than the SP.

Visuals: 8, the game does a very good job of showing of the full potential of the xbox360. However in saying that, you can already see signs where the developers had to substitute detail in one area to maximise it in another. Eg: some areas show signs of complete unity of light, shadow and texture, while others skimp out on the above to maximise the frame-rate in high action areas. If you have a HDD, you can install the texture pack which boosts the depth of textures while adding new ones.
Sound: 10, Brilliant Sound, all authentic and the explosions sound insane. If you have a quality surround sound system the game shines.
Gameplay: 7 Ok...here's the tricky part...and il let you guys see it for yourself when you pick up the game. But the game does suffer from some akward game-play moments. Firstly maximising the graphical potential of the game has influenced the framerate. At times the game does feel slow, in others its ok. The single player story, does play well, but is rather short. However the shortness does leave you with a few memorable scenes. Online: 10, the game shines. There is no other title out there that offers such a large expanse to battle against your friends with. The huge amount of vehicles, and the experience of fighting in a true battlefield is everlasting. The sound of jets above you going nuts in dogfights, the sound of tanks in a battle in a field next to you, it all feels like your really in a game where your little self can make a huge influence. Now if only EA fixed there servers............

Now, I understand the hesitation towards this game, not being a fan of EA myself, and what they've done with existing properties. Some frustration aside with getting online Tuesday, I decided not to let this hamper my opinion of the game. The criticisms for this game are valid, its not as epic or nice looking as the PC version, and the single player is even more of a wash now that its on the second disc, but it is still a competent game on the 360.

The lighting, textures, and feel of guns are all very well placed. People want to know why they're getting killed? It's because you're out in the open, treating it like you're on a paintball field in Modern Warfare. The only way we win matches is by going slow, using teamwork, and being practical. I don't want to get into the argument about which game is better, Activision has always done an excellent job of the run and gun shooter, but its really apples and oranges between that and Battlefield. I'm sure both games will do well in the market, and there should be options for shooters.

When its not connecting right, this game be frustrating, but that always gets better with time. Bad Company 2 is what got me back into this franchise, and based off of Tuesday nights game with my group, we're going to get a lot of shelf life out of it, but please, don't be haters because you play this game by yourself. If you play CoD, then by all means go play it and enjoy. This game at its core is well made, the levels are balanced and vary in setting, and make it so you can create great memories for yourself, not just relying on scripted events. Vehicles once again add new tactical perspectives, and the rebalancing of classes make it easy to find your niche. The unlocking system is a bit excessive, breaking down into subcategories of unlocks, but I already have the gun I want for the class I want after one night. I hope this information has been helpful.

Not a bad game just underwhelmed. The graphics are not that great, hard to see enemies sometimes. Alot of spawn killings and collision detection if off some of the time. laggy multiplayer, it is a good time filler untill MW3 comes out.

Completely amazing. Visually stunning. Multiplayer puts me inside the game. Ranking system, un-ockable content, and strategy is just good. Probably one of the best FPS I have played in a long time.

If you're looking for a great single player campaign you're out of luck, rent BF3 or pick it up in the bargain bin. If you're looking for the best online multiplayer action then BF3 is your game hands down.

While Battlefield 3 was aiming to be the biggest name this holiday season, and while it has made strides towards knocking off Modern Warfare 3, it misses the mark. That's not to say it is a bad game, it's a very good one, but the polish and excitement that is found on the Call of Duty series feels missing here. Still, there are much worse games you could end up with this holiday season, and the competition between the two series should heat up significantly in the next few years.

This experience alone sums up what Battlefield 3 is about. It isn't a John Rambo run and gun shooter and it shouldn't really be compared to MW3 in terms of how you play it. For players to truly understand the Battlefield experience you need to embrace the teamwork by joining a squad and calling out your spotted enemies, as after all, sometimes you also need your back covered too.
