    A very good game, but with far too many bugs, some of which are progression-blocking. Most insultingly, WB Montréal has announced they won't patch the game

    It's alright, it has great moments but sub-par ones as well. I wont spoil but some story elements feel rushed because theyre just stupid. Some "emotional moments" are just mega cringe and make little sense. However graphics are great and some cutscenes are epic af. This is arkham city again though, but arkham city was great anyways

    The worst Batman Arkham game is still surprisingly playable. WB Games Montréal tries to replicate Rocksteady's approach but fails to do so. However, the foundation by Rocksteady is so solid, that the game works anyway.

    Pros: + Game mechanics are directly copied from Rocksteady games and they work quite well. + Gotham lore is still well-written. + The game is set at Christmas, so    The worst Batman Arkham game is still surprisingly playable. WB Games Montréal tries to replicate Rocksteady's approach but fails to do so. However, the foundation by Rocksteady is so solid, that the game works anyway.

    Pros:
    + Game mechanics are directly copied from Rocksteady games and they work quite well.
    + Gotham lore is still well-written.
    + The game is set at Christmas, so playing it during the Holiday season was fun.
    + The outfits of the Black Mask gang are cool: suits, turtlenecks, and golden chains.

    Cons:
    - The main story is cheap. While Rocksteady games introduced a new angle on Batman and Joker characters that worked well specifically for video games, WB Games Montréal just rehashes ideas from Nolan movies. It makes the story predictable and disappointing. Like 4/10 at best.
    - Tutorials miss the mark. In half the places the stuff is over-explained: like you're not even given a second to think about the puzzles, Batman immediately voices the solution. In other places (like the Deathstroke fight), the new mechanics are not introduced/explained at all. It makes the difficulty curve hilariously uneven.
    - Open-world design clashes with the linear gadget tree. And backtracking is not a lot of fun in this one.
    - Bugs, bugs, bugs. The game crashed 10+ times on me. Interrogate actions didn't trigger from time to time. Some scenes were missing voiceover.    … Expand

    Basicamente um copiar e colar do AC, é bom, porque é o AC com história e vilões diferentes, mas nada
    de novo além da história. Mas mesmo assim é divertido de se jogar e continua sendo um ótimo jogo

    Probably the best story of all the Arkham games. It just didn't get the credit it deserved. The world isn't as good as Arkham City or Knight, but it's good nonetheless. If u like the Arkham games u will like this prequel. Amazing story and fighting DeathStroke & Bane is just the bomb. It requires some skills. Long live the Bat!

    On tombe en outre sur une tonne de remplissage avec des merdes à trouver, activer, décrypter, ramasser, détruire dans la ville entière… ça déborde ! toutes les conneries de Nigma sont là par exemple, encore puisque c’était déjà le cas dans Arkham City. Sauf qu’ici, c’est pire… ou du moins, c’est l’impression que ça donne.

    La jouabilité est donc toujours aussi casse-couilles avec en prime des boss qui le sont encore plus, dont l’un, Deathmachin de mon cul (il est chié lui, putain !), est à vous rendre fou puisque tout le combat n’est qu’un gros paquet de QTE à peine déguisés !

    De toute façon, comme dit plus avant, le jeu reste lourd, d’une lourdeur inexpugnable qui rend les affrontements fastidieux (lesquels sont quasiment des suites de QTE improbables, les obligations du ‘contre’ obligatoire…) alors que les possibilités d’infiltration s’avèrent compliquées et stériles, quand elles ne sont pas tout simplement… caduques !

    On veut bien être patient mais ce Batman-là, on n’en veut pas : c’est un jeu démoulé par des baltringues qui ont tellement chargé la barque qu’elle coule à pic jusqu’au fond, un jeu emporté par les affres de son propre poids : pas étonnant qu’il sombre aussi vite… finalement !    … Expand

    Arkham origins is probably the most underrated game in its respective series. Although it is understandable as to why it has the reputation that it does developed by a separate studio then Rocksteady who were hard at work working on Arkham Knight for next gen it was decided to have a prequel game developed using the same engine and assets from Arkham City. As a result the game feels and looks a bit like a very large piece of DLC for City. And visually the game doesn't look amazing at least in the open world which also feels a bit empty and boring at times. And other then some new gadgets there isn't much different from this game play wise from the previous title although the Shock Gloves are very satisfying to use in combat. What the game lacks in visuals though Id say they more then make for in the plot and content of the game. I wont go too far into the plot set two years into Batman crusade you must face against various assassins' hired to kill the Batman. And I must day I like most of the characters they picked for this game Deathstrock, Anarchy, Firefly there's plenty of old and new faces for the series and speaking of these characters this game has probably the best boss battles of the series. The other games aren't really known for there boss battles but this game has some really good ones like the fight with Deathstoke or Bane. So while the game can feel a bit repetitious and visually dull the game play is still solid and the plot is interesting with some pretty good boss battles added in.… Expand

    Fine game. Despite the 6/10, I genuinely believe this game is slightly underrated by the masses. But I also kind of understand why. This is where the formula got tired. And it was rough because this game came out two years after Arkham City, yet in almost every aspect Origins is worse than Arkham City.

    My favorite Arkham game. Bruce goes through such a great arc, and the game introduces a lot of characters that were left out of the prior games.

The main reason the game is seen as a lesser title to the previous Arkham games, is due to the choice to recreate the style of the rocksteady Arkham games. However, I found the story to hold very strong and the experience held up very well with the other Arkham games. Still well done, good Origins story and, although Mark Hamill (The Joker), and Kevin Conroy (Batman), did not do the voice acting in this game, Troy Baker and Roger Craig Smith, who voiced The Joker and Batman respectively, did a great job in this one.… Expand

Origins по сути это усовершенствованный вариант Arkham City с более мощным и интересным сюжетом, повествующем о разборках Бэтса с кучей плохих боссов преступного мира таких как Крок, Бэйн, Дэзстроук, Медноголовка, Блэк маск, Шива, Энигма, Файрфлай и прочие. Также Origins нам расскажет о важнейшем событии готемских приключений - первой встрече с Джокером и завязке весьма необычной психологической связи мыша с главнейшим ультраобаятельным антагонистом. К боевочке привычной и арсеналу мыша добавились шоковые перчатки - вполне себе необходимое дополнение, учитывая тот факт что в некоторых местах концентрация бандосов зашкаливает. Весьма интересен режим детективного расследования. По общей игровой составляющей появились более интересные загадки по сравнению с сити, башни, любопытные допмиссии и ну конечно же захватывающая основная ветка. Не забудем напомнить конечно же о Готэме, как всегда прекрасном в своём мрачном готическом великолепии ещё и в метель... красота!!! Можно сказать, что всё почти идеально. La serie de Batman Arkham es una de las franquicias de videojuego más populares en los últimos años, sin embargo, muchos de los jugadores no tienen a esta entrega como una de la saga solo por no tener el sello de Rocksteady, Batman Arkham Origins es nuevamente un sandbox que se centra en los primeros años de Batman en donde apenas muchos de los ciudadanos creían que era un mito, la historia comienza en una navidad en donde Mascara negra pone precio a la cabeza del murciélago y 8 matones son contratados para realizar dicha acción, en términos generales la historia está bien a secas, debido a que en algunas ocasiones lo sentí tedioso y aunque tiene algunas partes muy buenas, en otras veces no le agarras interés, la sentí tardada debido a que en varias ocasiones me vi dando vueltas por la ciudad debido a que los objetivos no están nada cercanos uno del otro de lo cual hablare más adelante, si bien la historia de los asesinos es interesante, algunos los tienes que buscar vía misiones secundarías, los combates contra jefes son repetitivos, sin embargo quiero destacar el combate contra Deathstroke porque siento que es el mejor combate de la franquicia, lo termine en difícil en todos sus modos y créanme que es un reto y la primera pelea contra Bane la cual también logro sacarme canas verdes en sus modos más difíciles, el sistema combate y el planeo es una calca de Arkham City, lo cual no es malo debido a que ese sistema de combate era excelente, sin embargo, varias veces me encontré con bugs en mi partida, en combos donde no funcionaba como debería o algunos matones simplemente ya estaban noqueados pero seguían parados lo cual se me hace mal en pleno 2020, en el planeo siento que fue un pequeño retroceso de Arkham City debido a que lo siento más rígido sin embargo no necesariamente es malo porque el juego se sitúa en época navideña y con tormenta de nieve, pero como ya lo mencione anteriormente los objetivos son muy lejanos y créanme que es aburrido planear una y otra vez, con los demás nunca he tenido problema y sí, hay viaje rápido, pero personalmente lo use únicamente cuando ya iba a terminar la partida al 100% para no afectar la experiencia, las misiones son largas y en algunas te quedas un rato sin saber a dónde ir debido a que no te lo dicen, si bien en los otros juegos de Arkham tampoco te lo dicen en su totalidad pero son muy intuitivos, en coleccionables son muchísimos y no siento que afecten como tal a la experiencia honestamente me tomo 9 meses coleccionar todo y no fue porque no los hallara debido a que le puedes sacar las ubicaciones a los secuaces del acertijo, sino porque el juego en si se me torno aburrido debido a su sistema de planeo, en resumen, Batman Arkham Origins no es un mal juego, su historia si bien tiene una buena primicia, la ejecución no termina de convencer, la interpretación de voces es muy buena tanto en inglés como en español destacando las voces de Batman y el Joker las voces en general cuentan con raros problemas en la sincronización, sigue teniendo bugs en pleno 2020 o cual me hace preguntarme como estuvo el día de lanzamiento, los combates llegan a ser tediosos así como las secciones de sigilo, el apartado grafico para la época es muy bueno, sin embargo en ocasiones tuve bajones de framerate y en otras corría muy fluido, la banda sonora no está mal pero no es tan buena como la de City, por parte de los coleccionables son demasiados y no te recompensan de una manera grata, realmente los haces solo para completar el juego, el juego realmente para mi merece ser jugado un poco por su historia y los datos interesantes como el origen del Joker haciendo referencia al comic y algunos combates como el de Bane y el de Deathstroke, si te gustan los juegos de Arkham dale una oportunidad aunque diré que si se siente la diferencia a los otros juegos de la serie.… Expand

    Huge disappointment. Was really hoping for more but got something that's a shell of the other Arkham games. Story is original and fun for a bit, but game is a port of Arkham City. Not bad, just disappointing.

    I only finished about 10% of this game because I couldn't beat one of the bosses. Difficulty level really off the charts. Looked online and it appears I'm not the only on with this problem.     I am not the most experienced action video game player but I played Asylum and City and made it through those games fine on Normal difficulty. They were a healthy challenge for me but with Origins I feel there is this punishing boss fight that is totally unnecessary. I made it through Asylum and City to enjoy the story lines but here - nah, I'm done now. I'm not sure what the developers are thinking with this one - aside from the insane difficulty, the environment is not as believable as the other games; not as immersive.    … Expand

    Why review a game on dead console? I always started this and stopping playing it and then forgot about why I did. Playing first and second game I suppose it has made trash mob way to easy to deal with in the prequel. The game almost looks as good as the other and the game almost plays as good as the others, but the game crashes and locks up from time to time. Warner Bros Montreal did a good job at making AO feel similar to the previous games thanks to the familiar gameplay and settings, although I do agree that I wish they did a but more with them to put their own spin on it. The story was good, the voice acting is really good also, the boss fights are great too. There is a lot to like in AO. I do thinkThis game gets a bad rep in my opinion. Warner Bros Montreal did a good job at making AO feel similar to the previous games thanks to the familiar gameplay and settings, although I do agree that I wish they did a but more with them to put their own spin on it. The story was good, the voice acting is really good also, the boss fights are great too. There is a lot to like in AO. I do think that the map is bigger just for the sake of being bigger as not all of it is utilized in the game. And the "secrets" and collectibles aren't as hard to find and obtain as AC.     Warner Bros Montreal attempts to take the fantastic Rocksteady series and continue it whilst telling the story from a viewpoint of a young Bruce Wayne within his first year of being the Bat. The combat system is as fluent as other games, no need whatsoever to alter with it too much, although new combos and gadgets added to Batman's armoury are very nice additions to combat and other aspects of the game. Multiplayer is also a nice addition, and a few extra hours of fun can be had with a nicely balanced multiplayer mode. The story within the game is solid enough and, though it may not be particularly memorable, it is a very standard story for an origin tale and provides a good dynamic between a inexperienced Batman and Alfred who is trying to do his absolute best for Bruce.

    The villains in this game are not any where near as strong as previous entries in the series, and the absence of Mark Hamill as the Joker is glaring throughout the game. Troy Baker does provide a decent performance, but it does not quite fill the gap left by Hamill. AI within the game can sometimes be idiotic, as I have often seen the most threatening enemy with armour and a gun walking directly into a wall, making it easy pickings for Batman.

    Arkham Origins is a decent game, as I said earlier, but if it is to be measured by the bar previous Arkham games have set then it must be said, it is disappointing.    … Expand

    While not as good as city or asylum, this batman prequel tells a satisfying story about how batman encountered the joker. This really is not a orgin story, but its still good. The multiplayer is terrible, so disappointed. The gameplay still remains solid, and exploring gotham city is still a great time.

    I must say that this game is underrated . Sure it has a lot of mechanics that carried over from previous installements such as gadgets and the combat system but it also has a lot of new ones as well .The combat system is still as enjoyable as ever and this game also introduces new gadgets such as the deathstrokke line gadget . This game has a nice plot and I enjouyed the storlyine a lot .I must say that this game is underrated . Sure it has a lot of mechanics that carried over from previous installements such as gadgets and the combat system but it also has a lot of new ones as well .The combat system is still as enjoyable as ever and this game also introduces new gadgets such as the deathstrokke line gadget . This game has a nice plot and I enjouyed the storlyine a lot . The mulitplayer is pointless but by ignoring it , I don't even see it .     Although this game can be considered disappointing and a disappointment compared to the other Arkham games but I can't deny the fact that story is very well written and could be the best out of the Arkham series and although the voice cast from asylum and city didn't appear in this game they do a pretty good job replacing them. Overall Arkham origins had the potential to be great but just ended up being good and if you're a batman fan you should defiantly play it but if you're a action adventure fan buy it if you have some spare cash.… Expand

    I am a huge fan of the Batman games - Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. This game fell short. I have never played a video game that had as many glitches as this game. After finishing the main story, I encountered a corrupt save issue. This was annoying given that I wanted to finish a few of the side quests. Now I am forced to put the game on the shelf (unless I want to play through theI am a huge fan of the Batman games - Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. This game fell short. While reading a few of the forums, it sounds like the corrupt save is a common problem. WB released this game far too soon. Enemies would get stuck in walls. Save points didn't always bring you back to the most recent save. Other times it would bring you back but not allow you to activate a switch that you needed to activate to progress. I like the plot and gameplay along with the music and most other things about it, but it just doesn't truly live up to what I expected after Arkham Asylum and Arkham City (which are two of the greatest games in existence).     Out of the 3 games already released, this, asylum and city. this is certainly the worst of the bunch. It feels different but not in the right way, the combat is far too easy, the dialogue is no where near as good, the storyline is pretty pants and my biggest complaint was how long it went on for!!! Come the end of the story is become a drag which is never good in a game.

    Great game. A solid prequel to Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. Does have a few annoying technical issues but they weren't game breaking (for me at least).

Elements of the world that made up the previous games that take place later on down the timeline are just starting to come to fruition. It's a pretty satisfying prequel story.

    From a gameplay standpoint not much is new. The same great combat and traversal are present. It's not much new, but the excellent main and side content means that it's still a lot of fun. There are some new items in Batman's arsenal. Shock gloves beef up combat making you feel like an even more unstoppable crime fighting machine. Detective vision now allows Batman to recreate crime scenes in order to tell what happened. They are both really cool new additions, but it seems odd that Batman wouldn't be using these tools later on in his career. I get that this is a sequel and that new tools are to be expected, but it is kind of odd that this prequel story uses tech that isn't seen later on. Oh well, I'm not complaining too much. They just make the game more fun.

    Another new addition is that this is the first Arkham game with multiplayer. It's basically just two groups of villains going head to head while Batman and Robin stalk from the shadows. Playing as a superhero is exactly like the campaign and playing a goon is your standard 3rd person shooter. It never really hooked me, but the only real issue I have with it is that it seems a bit unbalanced. Playing as one of the very mortal heroes against other players with guns isn't quite fair. Still there are ways to win as a hero by using stealth and quick thinking, but you are going to have your work cut out for you. I personally don't think the multiplayer mode is worth much.

    The single-player content more than makes up for that though. It's a welcome return to the "Arkham" universe. While the developers don't do much to expand on Rocksteady's work they make another rfine game in the series. There's plenty of content to keep you coming back to the story mode thanks to a lot of side-content and the new game + and "I Am the Night" modes. There are plenty of reasons to step back into Batman's cowl.

    On the other hand, the game is great at expanding the Arkham universe. While I was worried about Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill not returning as Batman and The Joker, the latter being replaced by Troy Baker showed to be an excelent choice. The best part of the game comes in the form of a flashback the clown has while being psychologically questioned.

    The multiplayer shows us why Rocksteady wanted the Arkham games to be a single player universe, and after a few matches become repetitive and highly unbalanced. Sometimes, waiting in a lobby takes longer than the match itself. Make this most time.

    Even then, the game as a stand-alone is a wonderful game, and patches have made the experience far more enjoyable (I had this glitch on I Am The Night mode when my gadgets kept disappearing, thus making further progress impossible. This was fixed long ago). I repeat: previous titles don't make this game bad as a stand alone title.    … Expand

    If you're new to the "arkham" saga, you're in for a treat. If not, then it's the same game you love. Gotham's representation is stunning, with each game area being unique and beautiful while realistic. Immersion in the game is great, with goons randomly talking about the history sequences so far, or discussing whether "the batman" is real.

    While it's true that it's the same old formula from the Arkham Asylum and Arkham City games, i believe that it works. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" as the saying goes.
    Some boss fights are extremely fun and difficult, while a few ones are quite weak and unoriginal. Still, overall, it's a game that keeps you on your toes, scaling up it's difficulty on each stage. And while it's true that most battles of the game are just "button-smasher" on the first run, on the higher difficulty levels they become quite an ordeal.
    Good story, awesome mid-game plot-twist. Also, it's the goddamn batman: go play it.    … Expand

    Arkham Origins was not made by the same studio behind the amazing Asylum and City and it kin dof shows. This time the voice of Batman is Roger Craig Smith and he does a good job, not as good as Kevin Conroy but still good. The Joker this time is voiced by my favourite voice actor Troy Baker and he does a great job, he sounds quite a lot like Mark Hamill which is a very good thing.     First of all Warner Bro's handling of this game was mediocre. the story was ok and so was the side quests. However some of these glitches and bugs are inexcusable especially considering WB won't fix them.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Good game overall. The story is a bit odd. I wanted variety from the main villain being The Joker, so I thought Black Mask would be good. But it threw me under the bus. Anyway, the combat is good, pretty much the same style as Asylum and City, but with a few more moves and take downs. The Fast Travel Feature is really nice, although in my opinion you basically don't need to take down all of Enigma's jammers, because one is unlocked in Arkham City, and one is unlocked in New Gotham (unless of course you want to complete the Most Wanted mission of Enigma). The graphics are also pretty sharp.… Expand

    Full Review: So I got this game a while back on my 360. I was already a fan of the previous two games and was delighted when I've heard of another one coming out. That being said, I was kinda disappointed when I played it. The epic plot line, engaging combat system, and intriguing environment were all seemingly downsized in this would-be sequel (and I use that term loosely). I'll explain.

    So, point number one: Story. I could probably spoil the ending here because of how predictable it was, but I won't. There are absolutely zero plot twists and surprises to keep you on your toes. Even when there are, they make no logical sense whatsoever. WHY was that one guy posing as the other one? (If you played the game, you should know what I mean) How did that one guy even get there in the first place? And etc. The story isn't very compelling, either. It's just Batman fighting some "assassins" who appear to be just shoehorned in competing for a bounty on his head. All in all, the story's just uninspired and dull.

    Second point: Gameplay. The combat system, for one, is almost a carbon copy of Arkham City's with no real additions, save for a few new enemies (who rarely show up) and, like, two new gadgets. The second thing I noticed about it is that it's much clunkier than its predecessor. Timing feels off, not as fluid or accurate, etc. It's still a good system to begin with, but it feels like it's trying too hard to be Arkham City when it isn't, really. Moving on to the predator segments of the game, I think Splash Damage did a good job on this part, actually. There are many more ways to take down enemies without even knowing the Bat is watching them, and at the same time the player is unable to clear the room just by firing a few gadgets and sitting on that vantage point. The rooms are also a whole lot more interesting and challenging, as their specific designs might sometimes prevent a "silent-takedown everyone" approach, especially in New Game Plus. This forces the player to come up with new strategies, which I applaud. I might even go so far as to say it's BETTER than Arkham City's predator levels. Moving on to bosses now. Yes, bosses are a very big part of this game, and thankfully, they're (kinda) varied and some are even for side missions only. The first boss (who I won't mention), though, can be pretty annoying as most of xir's attacks involve countering at very random times and, if you press counter just once at the wrong time, you fail the counter altogether and you get damaged. The worst part is: the game doesn't tell you what you're doing wrong. This is especially frustrating in New Game Plus where you can't see counter symbols at all, and can ruin the game for some. Aside from That One Boss who is fairly early in the game, almost all the other bosses are defeated by repetitive maneuvers. They are still challenging, if a little repetitive. Lastly, open-world exploration. It's virtually the same as Arkham City. You've got those relays to destroy (which are the same as the cameras), extortion data packs to collect (Riddler Trophies), random bad guys to beat up, side quests to do, and a pretty much lifeless city. Wait, isn't this supposed to be Gotham and not Arkham City...? Well, it is Christmas Eve. Almost nothing has changed, save for two exceptions. Now you can fly around the city to certain areas in the Batwing, provided you unlock the drop points first. Second, random crimes happen and they involve beating up both thugs and police (for some reason) who just love to Kick the Dog. I'd also like to mention the mystery-solving feature, but I'll just say it's just...meh. Nothing more I can say here.

    Conclusion: Since I need to wrap this thing up, it's time to write the conclusion. All in all, I think that this game is uninspired and plain for an Arkham entry. Still, it does have some redeeming qualities that potentially make this game enjoyable at times. But I feel like this game was trying too hard to be Arkham City when it really should've added in its own distinct flavor, like Arkham City did to Arkham Asylum. If you can get this game at less than full price, it's not a bad option.

    Batman: Arkham Origins gets a 6 out of 10.

    I don't know that I've played a better game than arkham city on the xbox. so to me making a game like arkham origins makes sense somewhat because many series have gone off track by trying to change what isn't broke. i only give it a 9 and not a 10 because every game should be judged at least a little on what ground it breaks in comparison to it's predecessors, also the bridge is too long, though fast travel makes it mainly a moot point.
    And about these so called win buttons....especially the inclusion of the shock gloves, that particular addition to the series i LOVE and i really hope they don't take them out (it's not like im bad at combat either, i'm at least average to above average)
    lastly, the deathstroke boss fight is right up there with best all time imho.    … Expand

I believe that the reason this game is underrated is that the previous games were masterpieces, so Warner bros Montreal had to fill everyone's over the top expectations. So the game has a pretty great and original story it feels like a real batman adventure, but my only criticism is: Why did you have to bring back the joker god damn it? You just managed to take the attention by killing one of the most iconic characters of all time and than all of sudden you bring him back to your next game? I feel like you are much dependent on him, you would be nothing without him, but in realty no, batman has a pretty interesting and complex villain roster for example mister freeze but you forgot all of them and you focused on only the joker?(again........).

    The gameplay is a bit disappointing because it is a copy paste from arkham city, except one new annoying feature......... sigh.......... the shock gloves. This is a not welcomed edition to the arkham franchise because when you activate it it removes all the diversity from the villains and just lets you button-mash.

    The graphics are bigger and better.................................. that's all folks.

    But however my biggest disappointment has to be: The city is lifeless, where are my riddles that let's me find tons of secrets and easter eggs, Where are my **** ton of gotham city stories or mentioned villains here and there(By the way that was my favorite part in the arkham series) they are all gone, so far i have scouted the entire city and i only founded 3 or 4 of those(For comparison in arkham city there were over 30 of them). I loved a joke by a user here on metacritic: ( his/her name is xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx)

    but it's just bad alright first the controls are stiff and way too confusing
    and the game is just soooo hard, i mean like batman is a very weak vigilante and the enemies got so much health and way too powerful and sometimes there are things that you can't get, like you have to beat the game and get the useless secrets ahh this game pisses    Now hear this, this game is not actually so bad

    I thought this was a GREAT game. The campaign was really good, I really enjoyed the campaign. The online was CRAPPY though, that is why my score is low. The online sucked beyond belief, if batman and robin was unplayable, then the game would be okay to play, but no, no the online stinks.     I am playing single player story mode on normal difficulty and there is a part where i need to get past a door but there is a jamming signal. i go to my inventory to pull my disruptor out, but it is not there.

    Good multiplayer. So-so story. They missed a lot of potential especially with Deathstroke (I mean come on you see him once, beat him up and then never see him again.) Not as great as City but a decent time filler until Knight comes out.

    Batman: Arkham Origins is a great game on the Xbox 360. The story is good, but the gameplay feels too similar to prior experiences. This is it's biggest problem: it does not live up to the hype of the previous two games.

I played and finished both games in less than a week nonstop. So, first things first... m. That's what the games is. Meh, A very large meh that tastes like cold breakfast burritos in your mouth. The story was not as it was marketed as, it was not focused on black mask as promised. Heck, the story wasnt even that great. The first mission or two feels soooo awesome but after the plot twist is revealed everything goes downhill form there. There are alot of bugs, i fell quite alot through walls, highways, entire buildings, etc and gliding ocasionally turns into weird jerking butterfly stroke animations. Also, combat is quite iffy, and the grappling isnt as sensitive as it ought to be. Character models are not that great to look at and on PC should the vsync or anti-aliasing be lowered or turned off, game items will start turning into weird colored glitches. However, they did get some things right. The Batsuit looks alot better (though in my opinion still fails to deliver the comic batman vibe) and the progressive damage looks alot cooler as well. The new voice actors are awesome at portraying a young angsty crew of Gothams misfits and loners. The graphics as well are great at the cost of alot of lag. The new grading system is great while the upgrading system is annoying.

    This ends my unbiased review of Origins.

    Here begins my full on rage at it compared to Arkham City

    WARNING SPOILERS WARNING

    This game, being my first Arkham game, really let me down. It did not live up to the hype at all. I mean, you beat on COPS. COPS. Yes, COPS. The pathetic reasoning that they are corrupt and want to cash in on the bounty on the Bat's head just doesnt cut it. I mean more often than not they are doing theyre job right and honestly, until batman shows up knocking heads and plowing up walls. Batman would never do that. Also, how could they possibly have so many SWAT members anyway? In fact, all the enemies are like that. Most criminals are not doing anything illegal asides from wanting to beat up a vigilante who wants to beat up them. Why would batman even give a crap? And where did they get all the military grade guns? The combat compared to City was HORRIBLE instead of stringing together attacks in a badass rythmic way, you either attacked nonstop in the hopes of a quick fight or only countered to play it safe. Enemies will attack you off screen, and when doing a beatdown instead of standing down like in City, they charge on and stuff their fists down your throat. The new enemies make this even worse, basically you roll all over the place in the boss battles. All the alternative suits are either ripoffs, boring, or both. I will praise however The other characters, pretty much just the villains. Deathstroke looks badass, Firefly looks... not lame, Bane is cool, Black Mask is more modern, and Copperhead is (Suprise!) a girl, and not silly looking, but Shiva doesnt make sense at all. Now we move to the more annoying aspect of the game that is that it copied EVERYTHING from City. From the ninja blood tracking to the Penguin arena battles, its just sad really. Also, while i praised the angsty voice acting, i think that the game is WAAAYYYY too angsty. Hell, even Gordon is angsty.

    All in all. the game isnt that bad, but you definitely cant call it great. Again, meh.    … Expand

    The story is decent if a little Joker-oriented although with the regularity it puts key characters in danger you'll wonder if it remember it's supposed to be a prequel and therefore there is no tension.

    In terms of the combat, it's essentially like Arkham City's but clunkier and less responsive. You will have dropped inputs, batarangs flying off to nowheresville (or occasionally attacking the wall that murdered its parents) and enemies who can interrupt your attacks without warning. A lot of that changes when you get the Shock Gloves powerup as you become a powerhouse of unstoppable attacks and suddenly you no longer need to worry about which enemies are shielded or tactics in general. Gone are the Freeze Grenades and instead replaced with the functionally-identical Glue Grenades.

    The combat upgrade system is also broken as you can't get any of the stronger upgrades without wasting levels on your armour, and is in itself bugged if you attempt to get any of the upgrades attached to the Shock Gloves without first getting all of the upgrades before that. The tech tree for stealth upgrades is a little better but still frustrating and unintuitive.

    The stealth gameplay is closer to City's offering but the difficulty is "upped" by chucking in more goons rather than actually making it tougher. Combining the Remote Claw with the Sonic Shock Batarang and the Smoke pellet works every time and you can clear most rooms in under a minute without difficulty. The simple AI means that some areas can be beaten by making a loud noise and camping a ladder, ready to Batarang anyone fool enough to climb up (which is everyone)

    The other "addition" to the gameplay is the Crime Scene reconstruction, basically taking the evidence scanner from Asylum and City to the next level by having Batman play holograms of crimes as he gathers clues. Unfortunately, this just amounts to scanning a load of fixed points while Batman monologues to himself. Given that the devs expected you to complete this game three times (regular, NG+, I Am the Night mode) it's a shame that while it's neat the first time, by the third you'll be hammering the B Button desperately trying to skip it. Speaking of which, the cinematics really aren't good enough to force you to watch the same stupid animation of the Batwing flying (which you don't actually get to fly. At all) without allowing you to skip it. Or most of the other cut-scenes that we no longer want to watch.

    WBM have attempted to artificially lengthen gameplay by adding I Am The Night mode which resets your game (just the IATN game, not the rest of it, although we will get on to that) if you die. That's it. It's identical to the rest of the gameplay, nothing has changed, which is a shame as it promises "the ultimate challenge" but isn't any more difficult than, you know, playing the game without dying. With all of your powerups already activated.

    The boss battles, while they aren't bad as such, but again a lot of them just feel like replicas or slight adaptions of Asylum and City bosses (Deathstroke, CopperHead and Shiva being elements of City's fight with Ra's Al Ghul, Deadshot as Two-Face, Firefly as Poison Ivy, Bane as Bane / Freeze)

    The bugs with the game vary from the ridiculous Thug-walking-endlessly-into-a-wall to the game breaking "sorry, forgot to load the floor, you will now fall forever and your game save is corrupted". The silly bugs are entertaining at first, like a clown doing an unexpected pratfall into a bucket of paint. But after that clown keeps falling into the same bucket over and over there comes a point where you wonder if the clown has swallowed some of the paint and we should remove the bucket and get him into the hospital. WBM, to continue the metaphor, insisted that the clown was fine and anyway they already closed all the hospitals so you should reset your game and hopefully this time the paint-drinking clown won't be there (it kinda breaks down at that point).

    The point is that the game crashes, freezes, occasionally refuses to interrogate characters that you have to in order to continue and this happens EVERY TIME. Half of the walls in the game aren't even solid - for example in The Final Offer (Penguin's boat) when you first enter and climb up past the steam vents you can literally crouch and walk through the wall there. I really cannot comprehend the lack of care and attention that was put into a "Triple-A" game. The multiplayer shows this in spades with matchmaking problems abound, randomly spawning your character without eyes and a lack of care which gives it away as a cheap Gears of War rip-off.    … Expand

The ai will somehow spot you out of the blue im talking you will be crouched behind a man and he will spontaneously turn around. Bat!an will fly into walls and things when you are doing air attacks.     Wouldn't be a bad game if it weren't for the corrupt save file whe I'm a quarter through the game forcing me to start over. Also the exact same game as the last two but with more a lot more glitches.

    Why make a great game intntionally frustrating and difficult. I can't get past teh Deathstroke battle. I get incirmentally better at it on my later attempts, but it's not been fun in any way. The same moves over and over and over and over and over again... it's just really long, and if you make any mistakes you take so much damage you have to start all over. All the Saint's Row games are fun, Dragon Age, MASS Effect, Red Dead Redemption, Borderlands, all great games that are PLAYABLE without multiple attempts and dont' force you in to trial and error on the same spots. Arkham Asylum was so great, and had none of these ridiculous battles. Someone is just too much a fan of Deathstroke so made the call to make this stupid battle try to seem "epic" by making it take way longer and more effort than it should.… Expand

However I was still excited to see what Warner Bros Interactive did with gameplay that I loved and the did a pretty good job. Sure, the story cannot rely on shocking plot twists that end up in deaths and major comic arcs, as it is constrained in a definite period of time in a set period of Bruce Wayne's life (one year after he becomes Batman), but it still does a damn fine job of surprising you at every turn with what is as its disposal, turning the tide every now and then to keep you on the edge of your couch. The storytelling is one on par with Rocksteady's hors-d'oeuvres that should be remembered as a beacon for games to come.

    As for the gameplay, Arkham Origins does not innovate, in the sense that Arkham City did over Arkham Asylum, but it has its own share of novelties that are brought to polish what Rocksteady laid down as a more than solid Batman experience. I think this is perfectly normal, as the game is branded as a prequel, and not as THE third chapter of the saga, a title now held by the upcoming Arkham Knight, which means it still leaves room to overwhelming novelty in the future. Instead, the game relies on the same gems that made the Arkham franchise the renowned saga it is today and makes it bigger and better, most of the time. The combat system is mostly left untouched, with minor additions like new enemy types such as the martial artists) and, in pure Batman fashion, a couple of enw gadgets to be incorporated in your fighting techniques. It is not necessiraly better than before, but not worse in any way.

    The boss battles, for their part, are one of the very strong points in Arkham Origins. The Bane (Royal Hotel) and Deathstroke bouts come to mind for example. The fight with Slade Wilson, as much by its camera play than the calm but deadly tone it has, lets you feel the power of both the super-powered mercenary and the Dark Knight, with the latter of course coming out on top. QTEs are also part of the fight, but not in a bothering way, only in one that lets you live much more engaging scenes that will be engraved in your memory. The Bane fight is just as memorable, with you being thrown from wall to wall, your attacks ineffective against the powerhouse that is Bane. These fights make me think, I recommend playing Arkham Origins, and all Arkham games for that matter, on Hard difficulty. Not because it is too easy otherwise, but because it removes tips during boss fights and gameplay in general, leaving you to figure out, as Batman would, how to use your surroundings to complete your mission. Finally, collectibles retain their place and number from the previous games as an extra challenge for completionists, one that will require more than patience to be overwhelmed.

    A brand new feature for Arkham is the inclusion of Multiplayer. The idea is no doubt innovative, pitting three teams against one another: three of Bane's mercenaries v.s. three of Joker's gang v.s. Batman and Robin. Both criminal factions look to control domination points and eliminate every member of the other gang, while Batman and Robin take down the thugs to fill out an ''Intimidation Meter'' that will deplete quite quickly when the heroes are instead taken down. If one team wipes out the other, or if the Heroes fill out their meter, it is game over. While the execution is still to be refined, maybe in another WB Games entry in the Arkham franchise (as Arkham Knight was confirmed to be solo only), as the controls can be a little buggy and the gameplay slightly unbalanced. Also, the fact that there is only ONE mode (two counting post-launch updates), makes it look poor in comparison to most modern multiplayer games, including other innovative multiplayers like AC. There is room for improvement, but it is nonetheless a very determined attempt to bring a long-demanded aspect of gameplay to a beloved franchise.

    In conclusion, Arkham Orgins is maybe not the staple of modern gaming that most gamers associated with the Arkham franchise, but I can safely say that is stands tall alongside Rocksteady's masterpiece, and I would be very glad to see WB Games Montreal try their luck with another game in the same era, maybe based on the fan-favorite Suicide Squad, who knows.    … Expand

    The challenge system adds nothing to the game other than making you play the way the devs wanted which removes any real freedom you might want if you want to get 100% achievement. Even worse is that combat is horribly broken in this game. The counter technique which has been a mainstay in previous games is all but useless now unless you play the long, boring game of: hit once, counter, hit again. There is no freeflowing or anything anymore. I didn't bother attacking most gangs because it simply wasn't worth the effort. Combat is just plain broken and dull. This is amplified by yet more enemies that can somehow fight as well as Batman and yet are still minions to a big boss.

    Arkham boss battles have never been anything more than multi-part QTE events. Origins takes this even further. None of the boss battles are any good and they all take a while. A complete and utter waste of time. I personally got tire of the game before I got halfway through the main quest. I just wanted it to end.

    AA was a good game. The series has fallen from there until we heard a thud with this one. I'm glad the next game in the series won't be coming to current gen consoles because then I won't be tempted to give it one more chance. I just know I'll be disappointed. It's a very fun game, and I enjoyed the sense of urgency and the progression it had. The only thing that could be better was it's length and a few of the boss fights.     Personally, i think this is the best of all the Arkham games. it had the best storyline, the best graphics, and some pretty awesome new gadgets. I don't see why it was only a Mixed or Average among the critics.

    + Shocking Gloves and Remote Batclaw. Both of them added a new fun factor to the gameplay.

    + Batman's detective side. This section got improved compared to the other Arkham games...

    Contra section:

    - ...but it's still too simple, it should be more challenging.

    - the sandbox gameplay somehow doesn't fit Batman games, (I didn't like it in Arkham City either) it ruins the feeling, and that's the main reason why I can't rate this game higher.

    I wish I could say the same about this game that it's as big an improvement from Arkham City as Arkham City was compared to Asylum but it's not. It's pretty much exactly the same. A stand-still in terms of evolution more or less.

    A couple of new enemies added and the bossfights are way better both in terms of challenge, diversity and intensity and the story will still draw you in this time as well. But all in all I was expecting more in terms of gameplay improvements, diversity and depth.

    The cityscape is much larger than in Arkham City but this is actually a weakness seeing as how it holds few surprises and feel somewhat void. It's pretty much just something you have to endure in between missions something to navigate and fight yourself through as you travel between the various phases of the storyline. It feels empty and generic and there's nothing there to distract you from your main quest

    It's something of a waste in all honesty considering how much work has been put into designing it. When designing such a large cityscape you'd think they'd put some effort into making it come alive but they haven't.

    It's pretty much the same as in Arkham City only bigger. You may be free to roam all of Gotham this time around but due to it's lack of new challenges and a larger diversity of content you'll feel like you're still imprisoned within Arkham City. It still plays out pretty much exactly the same.

    All in all if you enjoyed Arkham City as much as I did and you're a fan to this franchise you'll enjoy this game as well. I know I did despite the disappointments mentioned above. You're still Batman there are still new plots to unfold and foes to defeat. The fact that this game could have been perhaps even should have benn so much more doesn't make it any less than what it actually is. And it is definitely as good a game as Arkham City even with slight improvements here and there and some new challenges also even if none of them are as revolutionary as one could have hoped for.

    This leaves my verdict at a solid 8/10 though I'm still hoping the next game in the series will be worthy of a 10/10 because this series definitely have the potential to reach high heavens if the developers choose to reach for it and it would be a real shame if they didn't.    … Expand

The freeflow everyone loved in Arkham Asylum and Arkham City has become no more than a painful itch between your buttcheeks. And do I even have to mention the Electrocutioner?
    This game held so many great possibilities, but it's rather poorly made, and I kinda regret having paid 45€ for it. Anyways, playing it was great fun, the side-missions are fantastic and there's a lot about it fans of the franchise will love.    … Expand

However it is plagued with bugs and glitches (the online side is almost unplayable), and only few of them have been actually fixed. They released several DLCs without fixing many of the game breaking issues.

Beating Deathstroke actually wasn't challenging after I figured out his attacks are generally the exact same every time. That pretty much sets the tone for the bosses.

    Overall: This never should have been compared to Arkham Asylum or City. Origins isn't even close to good on its own. Waste of money and time.    … Expand

Gotta say every change they've made negatively impacted the gameplay. Big battles are now very frustrating. The new gadgets don't really help too much in a throwdown either. Level design is at times confusing. Such a shame considering the caliber of the last Arkham game near perfect. They were given an awesome template and brought it down with pointless changes.     Having loved Arkham City, was ever so disappointed after spending hours traipsing over a dull city, especially the damn bridge, only to come upon building after building of repetitive action. Any originality that existed in City has been aped and boringly reproduced it really does feel that it's continually the same room again and again, just with a different skin. Gave up bored.

    why does deathstroke have to have so much freaking life he is by far the most irritating aggravating complicated villain ever... fighting him makes me want to take my controller and throw straight through my tv in hopes of killing him!!!!!!!!!!!

In Arkham Asylum, I was drawn into another world through an incredible plot, textures, music, and hidden Easter eggs. Here, the plot is very basic, the textures are non-existent, the music is forgettable.     I wanted to love this game more than I can tell you. It was even the first game I've preordered in years. However, the glitches are simply unforgivable. There are challenges that you have to complete (seems cool at first but then you are faced with so many times that they aren't even completable. One challenge is to get an explosive gel takedown. I've tried picking it up over and over again but every time I do, I quickly realize why I gave up on it in the first place. You are better off playing the other two over and over again.     It is a really good game and as a fan of batman and the comics that's saying a lot. but i feel like wbm just got lazy and just copy pasted arkham city in there and added VERY few. even the set pieces or the events are extremely identical to those of arkham city. wait a few months for a price drop then buy it

    Terrific game, I don't understand the poor ratings the game is getting. All it does is improve on arkham city. It does have some bad bugs but a lot have been fixed and the development team are working hard to fix the rest.

    Besides of not being as good as the other two first ones games of the batman arkham series,this videogame is absolutely great,just the screenplay had some problems.

The game had refined original controls and gameplay perfectly and crafted an experience that surpassed any in the genre. Arkham Origins takes all of what works and applies it to Arkham Origins. The story is much stronger and clearer than previously in batman games. The gameplay works just as it should, with new enemy types. There is several distinct differences between City and Origins. 1 Origins features boss battles that are challenging and feel like how batman would actually fight his enemies. 2 A new crime scene mechanic adds new depth to Batmans detective skills. Other than that the graphics look great, voice actors are new but good. The modes(not multiplayer) are great. Gotham is the main flaw with its streets only populated with enemies. Overall amazing game that started with perfection and did their best to distinguish themselves from Asylum and City. The game is better than Asylum and worse than City… Expand

    It's not finished. This game had the potential to be great like the previous two title's but unfortunately it has been rushed out to generate Money before the launch of Xbox One and PS4, I would have much rather waited another year, It's basically Theft and would request my name removed from the credit's if they were on them. Its an insult to the fan's.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Basically this game is split in two, a single player and... oddly enough a multiplayer mode. The single player focuses on how Batman met all of the characters, both allies and enemies, that he interacts with in the other two games in the series.

    So the main villain isn't Black Mask. If you've played the last two games, I'll give you one guess as to who the actual main villain might be. Yes, it is indeed the Joker. The whole situation basically amounts to a bait and switch involving the Joker. Needless to say, about a third of the way through the plot Joker takes over and you focus on him for the rest of the campaign. Is it really a good thing in my mind? Well, while I think that an Arkham story without the Joker would be sort of pointless, I do think this series really has seen enough of him. I mean he is a great character (one of my favorite of all time), but too much of a great thing make it turn sour. This isn't really a problem with the Joker in my mind, but with the whole idea of a prequel in general (I'll get to that in my final thoughts).

    So the plot is a cop out, but the combat and general gameplay is pretty good. Granted, it is basically the same engine as the last game with a few tweaks and an aesthetic facelift, but it never really stands out as anything other than Arkham City 2.0. Now I will say, Arkham City had some tough shoes to fill. But this was a different studio, and in that case, its a bad thing because they really didn't come up with many new ideas... just copy and paste the old game and change the setting... kind of. That brings me to "Gotham City"... if you can even call it that. The map from the last game makes up about half of the total city you can explore, with a new south section added in. Now the old map has alot of changes (apart from just the lack of walls), but its obvious the map from the last game was simply copied over and revamped a little. Most of the tall skyscrapers and lit up metropolis are still unreachable in this distance, and that is really disappointing. When this game was hyped up, I was expecting all of Gotham to be open for exploration. Instead, its kind of like a better looking Arkham City without civilians. Yeah, civilians are nonexistant. This is explained in the story but it still doesn't really help. All you find are criminals openly carrying guns on rooftops and hordes of enemies sitting in the middle of the road ready to fight. It doesn't feel like an actual city at all, just like another open prison.

    On top of that, the game has massive bugs. As of Mid November 2013 many seem to be fixed thanks to a much needed patch, but for anyone who played through the game before the update, it took away from the already somewhat passable campaign.

    The multiplayer is a bit of a mixed bag. You can play as one of three factions, three of jokers gang, three of banes gang, or batman and robin. Bane and Jokers gang basically play a game of third person shooter domination, while batman and robin hunt down and eliminate members from both sides. The gang gameplay feels alot like Ghost Recon, and thats not necessarily a bad thing, but it pales in comparison to being the dynamic duo. Playing as one of the two heros is alot of fun. Thats the only game mode so far, and it looks like more may be added in the future but when that will be is out in the open. There are also only four maps... and they get boring pretty quickly. The matchmaking is atrocious. If there are not eight people in a lobby the game will not start until there are. It takes forever.

    Overall, this game was a disappointment, though its not as awful as I made it sound earlier. The big issue is, this was a prequel, and had big shoes it needed to fill. Alot of the story issues and general gameplay probably would have been fixable if this premise hadn't been in the position it was. Batman doesn't feel like a brand new, inexperienced vigilante. Occasionally there are little hints that suggest he needs more training, but otherwise this feels like the hardened, tough fighter we saw in the last two games.

    That being said, the story (though flawed) is immersive and the combat is still fun to play with. The boss fights and scenery is varied well enough you don't feel like your retreading old areas. The multiplayer (when it works) can be quite fun and playing as both the gangs and the heros is fun and really keeps you interested. The voice acting and character development are suburb, the plot doesn't slow down or drag, and the challenge mode is still fun to tinker with.

    If you like Batman, or either of the last two games, you won't hate this game. But still, after the monumental achievements that were Arkham Asylum and Arkham City this game just doesn't do enough to really reach those levels, and it has a lot of technical issues that still need to be fixed.    … Expand

    This game is fantastic! Batman is a real badass in this game. If you loved the other two Arkham games, you will love this one as well. Maybe even more! Get it asap!!!

    Arkham Origins is very fun to play and very easy to forget as soon as you're done. Kicking butt as Batman is still a joy and the Invisible Predator scenes are as excellent as ever, but the game's almost complete lack of surprises weighs the experience severely down. [Nov 2013]
