A brilliant prequel story that retains the high standards of the series to date, Batman: Arkham Origins is a superlative third instalment that perfectly embodies the spirit of DC's darkest and most enduring hero. The Dark Knight rises once again, and he kicks ass.

Arkham Origins is a fantastic game, and one that is worthy of the Arkham legacy, but that being said, one can’t help but feel that WB Games Montreal played this one safe. They relied on the strength of Rocksteady’s rock-solid foundation, and simply applied new coats of paint and some extra decorations that weren’t there before.

It's a case of more of the same, but with such good source material this isn't a bad thing. [Issue#105, p.87]

However, in the midst of solving crimes while exploring Gotham, it's impossible to ignore some annoying issues. Firstly, there are bugs.

Arkham Origins isn't the next great Batman game but rather a competent rehash of Rocksteady's two entries. While it's filled with more flaws and familiarity than I'd like, it's still the third best Batman game the medium's ever seen.

Batman: Arkham Origins doesn’t seem to realize its true potential, and because of it, falls short.

I really can’t figure out why this game exists other than the desire to cash in on the work done by Rocksteady. The combat isn’t as good, the story is weak and meaningless, all tension drained from it because we know that nothing bad happens to anyone as they’re all around in Arkham Asylum, and the gadgets are either exactly the same or have the barest of cosmetic differences to distinguish them from previous games’ gadgets.

There are a few minor glitches, but it doesn't detract from the game (if you use a controller and have Synergy it may behave weirdly, just disable synergy or put the other computer to sleep my mouse only went off the left screen). Still set in Arkham City, plus a bit more across the bridge, and the Batcave is there. Still has the same combat. Thus far, they seem to have done well. It's very fun to play and has very good dialogue and story.

I do find it weird having Batman ask who certain villains are, or anyone being like "who's the Batman? You made him up!" or "you're just seeing things!", since we obviously know who Batman is as well as several of the villains that Batman doesn't know yet...

Very glad I got it. You won't be disappointed. Put your fears to rest, they didn't produce a half-assed game.

I've had many more glitches with FIFA, Madden or COD games. So, why is everyone so upset about having a few glitches with this game? BecauseI've had many more glitches with FIFA, Madden or COD games. So, why is everyone so upset about having a few glitches with this game? Because the previous 2 games put the bar so high it was obvious this game was goint to be the ugly one of the trio.

Even then, the game has its ups and downs: It expands poorly on gameplay, gadgets and exploration departments, with one point (after acquiring certain item) where the fights became insanely easy and boring.

On the other hand, the game is great at expanding the Arkham universe. While I was worried about Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill not returning as Batman and The Joker, the latter being replaced by Troy Baker showed to be an excelent choice. The best part of the game comes in the form of a flashback the clown has while being psychologically questioned.

The multiplayer shows us why Rocksteady wanted the Arkham games to be a single player universe, and after a few matches become repetitive and highly unbalanced. Sometimes, waiting in a lobby takes longer than the match itself. Make this most time.

Even then, the game as a stand-alone is a wonderful game, and patches have made the experience far more enjoyable (I had this glitch on I Am The Night mode when my gadgets kept disappearing, thus making further progress impossible. This was fixed long ago). I repeat: previous titles don't make this game bad as a stand alone title.

Arkham origins is probably the most underrated game in its respective series. Although it is understandable as to why it has the reputationArkham origins is probably the most underrated game in its respective series. Although it is understandable as to why it has the reputation that it does developed by a separate studio then Rocksteady who were hard at work working on Arkham Knight for next gen it was decided to have a prequel game developed using the same engine and assets from Arkham City. As a result the game feels and looks a bit like a very large piece of DLC for City. And visually the game doesn't look amazing at least in the open world which also feels a bit empty and boring at times. And other then some new gadgets there isn't much different from this game play wise from the previous title although the Shock Gloves are very satisfying to use in combat. What the game lacks in visuals though Id say they more then make for in the plot and content of the game. I wont go too far into the plot set two years into Batman crusade you must face against various assassins' hired to kill the Batman. And I must day I like most of the characters they picked for this game Deathstrock, Anarchy, Firefly there's plenty of old and new faces for the series and speaking of these characters this game has probably the best boss battles of the series. The other games aren't really known for there boss battles but this game has some really good ones like the fight with Deathstoke or Bane. So while the game can feel a bit repetitious and visually dull the game play is still solid and the plot is interesting with some pretty good boss battles added in. Expand

TheA good game definitely not the best in the Arkham series. Graphics are bout the same a bit better than Arkham city. Story is top notch. The gameplay... Is the same. The open world feels empty and feels like you already been there. Combat is mostly the same. The only new feature new to the Arkham verse is reconstructing a crime scene these are very fun and cool to watch. In the end this game boils down to being a rehash nowhere near terrible but it just feels to similar to Arkham city and not worth $60 in my opinion. A good game but not great. Expand

WB Games Montréal tries to replicate Rocksteady's approach but fails to do so. However, the foundation by Rocksteady is so solid, that the game works anyway.

    Pros:
+ Game mechanics are directly copied from Rocksteady games and they work quite well.
+ Gotham lore is still well-written.
+ The game is set at Christmas, so playing it during the Holiday season was fun.
+ The outfits of the Black Mask gang are cool: suits, turtlenecks, and golden chains.

    Cons:
    - The main story is cheap. While Rocksteady games introduced a new angle on Batman and Joker characters that worked well specifically for video games, WB Games Montréal just rehashes ideas from Nolan movies. It makes the story predictable and disappointing. Like 4/10 at best.
    - Tutorials miss the mark. In half the places the stuff is over-explained: like you're not even given a second to think about the puzzles, Batman immediately voices the solution. In other places (like the Deathstroke fight), the new mechanics are not introduced/explained at all. It makes the difficulty curve hilariously uneven.
    - Open-world design clashes with the linear gadget tree. And backtracking is not a lot of fun in this one.
    - Bugs, bugs, bugs. The game crashed 10+ times on me. Interrogate actions didn't trigger from time to time. Some scenes were missing voiceover.
