I think this game should rate 10 or at least 9 because you have so much freedom to do what you want and the fighting is just fantastic! and very realistic.

Very interesting 3rd person adventure game. It's very refreshing to see one of the big studios make something new for a change. Assassin's Creed has high art quality, and some of the best animation blending i have seen in a game. I like being able to climb on almost ever surface, plus things such as mounted combat and the crowd AI really adds to the gameplay. Worth the buy!

The game does some unique things, but doesn't live up to its promise. Some of the contextual controls are clumsy, the missions are repetitive and the stealth aspects are disappointing. Still, the premise is novel enough and parts of it are fun to play if you're willing to wade through the dross.

Assasin's Creed is a great game, especialy those who are in to action games. The enviorment and characters all look stunning, the gameplay is fun and will keep you entertained even by just jumping across buildings. The only downside is that it does become a little repetitve near the end of the game. Overall, Assassin's Creed is a great game that will not to dispoint.

Great game that keeps rolling on. I am so tired of buying games for $60 buck that last under ten hours. This game even if you do not do every mission or find every view point will take you 20 plus hours of game play. This game gives you the best bang for your buck. The only other game I have played in the last 6 months that was better was Bioshock.

Graphics alone this is one of the best looking games I've ever seen on the 360. You really can't give this game enough praise in that department. Story is very take it or leave it. I personally could not appreciate the story that much, I really feel like the developers made the most obscure plot so that the fans could obsess about AC2 (yes, the sequel setup is already in place, Graphics alone this is one of the best looking games I've ever seen on the 360. You really can't give this game enough praise in that department. Story is very take it or leave it. I personally could not appreciate the story that much, I really feel like the developers made the most obscure plot so that the fans could obsess about AC2 (yes, the sequel setup is already in place, preorder now!) which is a huge letdown and doesn't command my respect, but it will sell games I guess... Gameplay wise, this is sandbox game. Sandbox games are different from many single player games, you have objectives, but largely you will spend your time doing things unrelated to the single player story. Think of games like GTA, Superman (360), or Saints Row and you have an idea of what AC is, but the styling of the game is so well done, you may not realize it until you're about an hour into the game. One of these things is rescuing citizens from corrupt guards, which means mastering the combat system which is engaging and well designed, but probably too tedious for the amount of combat they have put in the game to get your 100% completion satisfaction. This is not your God of War combat system, it's not so satisfying that you will want to spend gads of time fighting, however if you get creative you can stage fights on rooftops, fling soldiers to their death, and generally have fun with it, it's just too bad the primary obligatory combat in the game means you're always fighting in some street hall or corner. Another common activity is climbing around rooftops and towers, and yes, this is an absolute part of the game you must complete, or at least makes the game much easier when performed. This is probably the most fun activity in the game, it's tons of fun and fills in the gaps between the obligatory elements of pickpocketing, evesdropping, and of course, assassinating. Speaking of which you won't do much assassinating in this game, exactly 9 times to be exact, and a few side quests (and not too many really). And most of all that I found disappointing, most of the time your targets appear on your trusty minimap and have floating arrows above their heads. Yes, we all know your average gamer is clincally stupid, but this huge KILL ME sign wasn't really necessary and the gamer would have more fun if they had to pick out their targets. Imagine with me taking down a slave trader by skillfully eliminating his gang members one at a time, until the perfect moment to strike nears. That won't happen in AC, it's paint by numbers the whole way through. Expand

Assassin's Creed flourishes for it's main story; the moment of a kill is everything it has to offer. However, in order to get this Kill the generic sidequests must be completed (often a chore). even with this hindering it the overall gameplay and excellent graphics allow for an amazing expirience.

Any every "contrived" element (for example, scholars walking only once you join them or 12th century people from Damascus speaking modern english) are explained and make since within the context of the story. And the virtual lack of load times is, in my opinion, one of the greatest achievements. While a critically adored game like Mass Effect has a minute-long load-time for practically every single room, Assassin's Creed loads an entire city of thousands of people in half the time. There are times when youll forget your in the Animus; and there are times when youll forget your playing a game, which is scary but awsome at the same time. Sorry guys. But this is an absolute blast of a game.

The combat system is great, the game unlocks it slowly for you, so you don't get BORED. Each assassination unlocks new moves, weapons and street skills.

The historical depiction of the kingdom is fantastic. I visited the Church of the Holy Sepulchure, the Dome of Rock and other holy sites. The cities are brilliant, I found a real distinction between them. The church in Damascus is awesome.

The story has been slammed by so many people. WHY? It is a great story and the extra plot device works so well. The ending is like an episode of Lost. Just awesome.

Finally, yes it has its own set of faults and issues. Like many 'games', it is not like real life. What a shame.... Yes, some things are annoying and yes, the repetitive nature of the game is sometimes grating.... However, it was just so worth it. I finished it, and came away with an intense dislike for IGN's Hillary Goldstein. Funny that.

I am waiting in immense anticipation for the next chapter. Whilst doing so, I intend to play this game again.

I think a lot of the negative comments about this game stem from people who were expecting something that Ubisoft never had any intention of delivering. To them, no multiplayer, no true stealth, no constant action, simplified controls and a lot of cutscene "downtime" instantly triggers the "boring, there's nothing new here", hence the scattering of very negative comments.

The other side of the story is for people who have a bit more patience. Is there multiplayer? No, but the game doesn't lend itself to that gamplay style. Instead you're treated to a really immersing single player game, which are few and far between these days. The dual storyline is very engaging providing people have some patience and actually listen to what is being said. If you know what's going on, the plot raises motive questions and also gives a sense of purpose to your missions. The complainers also take issue with the simplified controls, but this game is NOT about 1 vs 1 combat or frantically tapping out a sequence of buttons to save your ass in a swordfight. Instead, the simplified and innovative combat scheme gives the game a certain grace and pace to fighting. It really shines when you're outnumbered and surrounded by a contingent of guards. There's nothing quite like systematically and gracefully taking them out one by one in quick succession. There's a huge "I'll do what I want when I want - just try to stop me" aspect of the game...and with a bit of skill you can pull it off and really put yourself in Altair's role.

And that's truly what the game has going for it.

I can wait out of site for hours (e.g. atop a tower or behind a wall)... but they'll still be 'looking' until I hide in a specific hiding spot like a random bale of hay. Logical. Also people will become suspicious of you for no apparent reason. Sometimes just for walking. This is hugely annoying when you might have a time limit of 2 or 3 mins to get somewhere without alerting anyone. Basically I'd say it's a very graphically impressive game, but the gameplay itself needs a hell of a lot of thought before they come up with a sequel. The free running needs a polish to make it more fluid, and the whole stealth aspect has been done better in games like the Hitman series. I'm now nearly through it all (final mission), and once it's done I'll be trading it in since in all honesty I don't know why I'd want to go back to it for a few hundred identical side missions. Beware of the hype. Expand

Time it just right and you unleash an animation sequence that is impressive and different a majority of times it is activated. I love Assassin's Creed. The environment is so dynamic and you really can put it to use wherever you are. The graphics are great(compared to those on my Wii) and the control system, while being slighty strange at first, is very intuitive and easy to use. Even if assination does get repetitive, climbing buildings is always fun and can last for ages given the size of the environments.

Frankly, I feel the dual storylines has been very engaging, and if you don't rush the game, you can get really immersed in the plot. THE BAD THINGS: Details: Really, Ubisoft only failed in the details of this game. First and foremost is that there isn't much variety in dialogue out of the main quest lines, especially in regards to civilians and guards around the city. You'll hear a lot of comments over and over again. Repetition: This is the 2nd big issue reviewers seemed to have, and while it definitely could have used a bit more variety, isn't close to as bad as some might have you believe. I guess it's point of view. But I fail to see how this game gets the stigma of being repetitious, when FPS's (as in shoot-run-hide-repeat every 10 seconds) rarely seem to be branded as such. Overall, this is a 9.5 game, and just misses the perfect mark because of some details that could have used tweaking. Expand

Great visuals and climbing mechanic. I enjoyed the intensity of some of the story elements (when the crazy doctor breaks the guy's legs). I do have to agree though, the game was sooo repeditive. Also, one of the game's tips was that if you start a fist fight the guards won't attack, but when I started punching the bullies, they drew swords so what the hell am I supposed to do? Saving civilians should have been cut. I feel like there was a lot of ideas that just didn't get fleshed out enough. The whole blending in with the crowd idea was useless except for getting past the guards at the gates of the city. The constant yellow alert that made the annoying sound until you hid in haystack was freaking annoying. I thought the controls were adequte, but while running I noticed that I was holding down A and the right trigger. It shouldn't be that hard. Some game designer was probably tasked with coming up with "innovative controls" and so they made this system for the sake of innovation. I mainly gave the game a 5 because of the huge bug that was preventing me from finishing the game. I would ride to kill your arch nemesis and then all of a sudden I would fall through the level. When I respawned, there were two Altair's and both moved corresponding to my controls. When this happened, none of the scripted events would fire so I couldn't progress. I read on a forum that the solution was to unplug my player 2 controller. What the F? Expand

Sometimes when interrogating someone Altair wont kill them after listening to them talk this leads to the game to be playing but you cant move at all and its just focused on the guy waiting to be killed. Now i am little past half way through the game and i am loving it. Once you earn more abilities and weapons and get your characters movements and fighting down the game is awesome. You look past the small flaws and take in how huge the city is as you're just sprinting, diving, and climbing along the rooftops. Just the act of getting from one end of the city to the other becomes fun as you take it to the rooftops. I don't get sick of that. It seems some small details were cut in able to make room for the vastness of area and size, which is fine by me. I tend to stand my ground in fights and take out the surrounding guards with ease. I also love waiting for an archer a couple buildings over to turn around and then run across rooftops and dive into him with a secret blade to the throat. I BARELY made my self finish this repetitive nightmare. After the 4th assassination it really goes down hill and there are 9 or 10 or maybe 11 more. I am not sure of the specific value, because you don't count. You just want to get to the next assassination to be done with it, but no, you have to do side missions. There are 3 side missions, eavesdropping, informant, and interrogation. Eavesdropping is sitting on a bench and listening to 2 guys talk in which they say generally the same thing every time. Informant either makes you kill people, or makes you go and capture flags. Wait, capture flags? Are you serious? You are capturing flags in an assassination game? The A.I. is horrendous. The villagers mindlessly roam around the city. The guards attack you one at a time, and can do exactly the same acrobatic jumps across buildings as you can. You can't swim, an elite assassin, that is a master of the Olympics. Don't worry, the guards can't swim either. No one can swim. Did I mention the pick pocketing mission? You listen to do guys talk for 5 minutes, than you wait 2 seconds for the future pick pocket victim to look left and then right, than you press a button to pick pocket him. But in order to even find these missions, you will spend HOURS climbing the same looking tower, pressing Y on the amazingly convenient wooden planks on EVERY single Birds Eye View Location. When you fail on the Informant missions, which you will a lot because the timed ones are extremely hard, and the flag ones are just ridiculous. If you decide to re-do the mission, you will have to listen to the SAME cut scene, because if you didn't already know, you cannot skip ANY cuts scenes. There are some cut scenes in the game, that are 10 minutes long, and they are completely boring and unexciting. I would never replay this game for that reason alone much less all of the other reasons. Did I even mention it is buggy to the point to where some players can't even play it? This game tries NOTHING new, sure great graphics, but I can name lots of games that blow this game out of the water. Don't reward this under class game by buying it. I was so excited for this game. All the videos and the build up to this game got me psyched up for this. That being said, it led up to most of my expectations. Very boring game after a while. Not enough variety, missions all the same. I cant understand how Ubisoft could make some many mistakes in this title it could have been a massive hit.

Great, Really fun, but the investigation gets overly-repetitive. Also, an option to 'fast-forward' to the cities would be nice. I hate riding to the cities.

Loving this game so far. Interesting storyline, excellent controls, and it is of course simply gorgeous. It can be repetative at times, but overall not enough to distract from the experience.

This game is the breakout of a new era. It is amazing, the movement of the characters, and how they interact. The best thing is how much you can interact with the environment. The only thing that stopped me from giving it a 10, was the set up of the story, they should have just stuck with the era of the crusades, rather than a futuristic view trying to go back in time. Some of the negative reviews complain the game is too long and repetative. Most videogames are repetative so that's a mute point. As for the game being long, some reviewers complain when a game is too short. Assassin's Creed is great game and should not be missed. I wouldn't say it's terrible, but it's not good. Seemed like it was slopped together and got old very quickly. My opinion is that this is what happens when you try to make a game for more than one platform. Stick to the exclusives devs out there! I don't care what system. Just do it. You're obviously too spread thin or not talented enough to do more than one console.

Listen folks, this is a great game, it looks fantastic and you get that atmospheric feel, that sucks you in + the narrative is great and thought provoking. But it is too repetitive and to be honest the controls are at times a little annoying in two contradictory ways. First at times when climbing etc it seems a little simple, like you

Beautiful game, wonderful concepts and it's dependant on how you play the game. Where one man says repetition, I say change what you're doing. An awful story and only decent gameplay take what could have been a truly historic game and make it utterly average, aside from graphics (though even they have a ton of glitches).

  1. Its stunning visual style, high concept story, and wildly open level design are like nothing else, even if too much repetition begins to frustrate in the later hours. It’s a game people will still be talking about five years from now.

It's hard to put the sheer size and brilliance of Assassin's Creed into words. It is an epic game that you have to experience for yourself. I will caution that the game is not for the impatient or the faint of heart. While you can plow through the main storyline in under 20 hours, to truly get every single last shred of gaming goodness, you will probably have to put in twice that number.
  3. With its riveting story, beautiful visuals and surprisingly lifelike world, Assassin's Creed is an incredibly deep, enjoyable game that kept us addicted from beginning to bizarre end.
