The characters are compelling, the story engrossing, and the gameplay addictive. On top of that, the campaign is deep, replay value well-stocked, and graphics/sound are 1st rate. The only reason you may not love this game is that platforming can sometimes be frustratingly inaccurate, but just a little patience goes a LONG way with enjoying the game overall.

Simply put... The Greatest Video Game of All Time. The 'critics' either do not have a clue what they are talking about or they need to find some imagination and wonder from somewhere. I honestly feel sorry for them if they cannot see the endless beauty in this magnificent 'game.' Astonishing.

Blows the previous entry out of the water in every single way. Mainly the problem I had with the first game was the repetitiveness... AC2 if anything is not repetitive and it completely and totally blew me away.

It is in every way a step up from the original, the missions are more engaging and varied, and the combat is richer and over the top (in a good way). In fact, if there weren't so many other great games that have come out this year I would give this game of the year hands down. Get this game.

Whereas ACI was a short, repetitive experience with only slight scrapings at any kind of tangible story, ACII is lengthy (20hrs for main story), varied, your character is heavily customisable and the number of ways in which you can play the game are multiplied vastly, and the story gets kicked up about ten notches, to the point where IA step up from the original in every possible way. The art style is unique and beautiful, with every city having its own lively flare and a vastly greater size than your average open-worlder. The soundtrack is freaking amazing to the point where i found myself ceasing gameplay for minutes on end just to listen to the music, beautiful, inspiring and a real treat to listen to. The side missions are fun and the collectible items have been reduced to a sensible 100 (feathers), as opposed to the multitude of flags to collect in the original, however, you can only tell how many feather are left in each city, which means that if i've found 19/20 feathers in Florence (idk the actual amount of feathers, i'm just stating an example), there's nothing I can do but to scour the entire huge **** city to find that one **** feather, but the beauty of the cities easily detract from this, and I guarantee that searching for all 100 feathers isn't a task you'll tire of easily. The ending leaves a lot of questions answered and a lot more unanswered, leaving you waiting in anticipation for the next game (Brotherhood, which you'll find i've reviewed also). This game is amazing. The level of detail is unbelievable. Great story, graphics and game play.

However I did not think that at first - I am not alone in having trouble very early on during a level called Sibling Rivalry - there is a race - but in fact all you have to do is run forwards and straight up the side of a building. Very easy when you know how.

The cities are beautiful and the game's gimmick (climbing high places) is tons of fun in this game because of the unique spots and the crazy high places you can reach. Assassinations are more fun because the targets have back stories that make them more intriguing to chase.

The quests are fun and revealing them from high points is a great way to do things. Enemies are more fun to fight because they wield different weapons, armor, and fighting styles.

Upgrading gear and having a room to strut your weapons off is fun. The side mission platforming is a great distraction from the main quest line and bears a great reward at its end,

Being Desmond no longer sucks and his part in all of this is more interesting.

The lame video searches and puzzles are really lame but you don't have to do them, and from what I understand, Having all that video reveals almost nothing anyway.

Ezio is a really great character and following him from 17 years old to his early 40's is a real treat. He matures mentally as well as in his skills.

The journey Ezio Auditore goes on to becoming an Assassin is a great example of how to develop a character. Throughout playing the game, you connect with Ezio in his situations, like when his father and brothers are murdered. You begin to care for him and his quest, as with all the other characters. As for Desmond... I never really liked Desmond's side of the story, but this game probably has the best story involving him, mainly because the growth between Desmond and Lucy, and his growth with the other characters, Shaun and Rebecca. The gameplay, like I mentioned, adds tremendously onto the last game, but it doesn't to the extent that it's too overwhelming, like Assassin's Creed III. Each area is big, but not too big, which adds the sense that makes each area confined. And thanks to elements such as buying armor and weapons, the combat system has improved a great amount. The control for the game is much better this time around. Ezio maneuvers much faster than Altair, and it makes the control faster and fluent. The soundtrack is great for this game. every track is beautifully composed, and fits perfectly with each area and scene. Overall, Assassin's Creed II steals the spot for my all-time favorite video game. The video game is much better than the previous title. It's because with more budget they used another graphic engine. The gameplay is almost the same with improvements; you can already swim in the water or in the rivers of Italy. The Renaissance period is fine, facing the Medicis, Sabonarola, and Rodrigo Borgia. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When it comes to a story, no other game that i have ever played can even come close to how incredible this game is. Ezio has to be one of the best protagonists in video game history, and he is at his most raw, cheeky and likeable. While also being at his most emotional, rash and naive. You experience Ezio's story from the moment he was born, then his teenage years, and then the telling moment of his families death, when you experience him develop into a man. A man driven solely by revenge and intent to find every single person responsible for his families murder and take them out one by one, and you follow his journey every step of the way aswell as his other journey, which is to find the Apple of eden, an ancient artifact the assassins have been hunting for centuries. On the journey you meet some of the best side characters in the series, arguably the best being Leonardo Da Vinci, who's partnership really does feel special. Then at the end of it all, after all ezio has gone through, killing every middle man and conspirator to the murder of his loved ones, he finally meets the man behind it all, Rodrigo borgia, the current Pope. But instead of killing him, spares his life, showing how much Ezio has truly developed from a boy to a man in his long journey.
Now, when it comes to game mechanics, this game is superb. The free running, climbing and movement mechanics are smooth and rarely faulter. Also the combat is superb, for some people, the fact that you cant chain attacks leading to an easy wipe of a large group of enemies may be tedius. However i find it to balance out perfectly as it doesn't make the combat mindless and easy but actually forces you to think about your attacks and wait for the right time to counter, the only possible flaw of the combat is the limitations on different ways to kill enemies as it is usually only a few ways to kill certain guards.
Overall, this game is as close to a perfect single player game that i have experienced.
Unrivalled story-line, engaging characters, fun missions, emotional moments, funny moments, Fantastic environment, great modern world story integration with the animus story of Ezio. And finally an intriguing cliffhanger that leads perfectly, and directly onto its sequel, which is very close to this level of greatness.
In short, it really is the greatest game i have ever played, and by quite some distance, and even after the possibly hundreds of times i have completed the story of this game, my opinion stays the same, and the games legacy will never be tarnished. 10/10 100/100 Perfection.

It has WONDERFUL atmosphere and music. which shows an Italy of Renaissance great. Also, the plot and the characters are awesome. I think, that it is a game from which everyone should start their experience of Assassin's creed franchise.

Best game of all AC Games even in 2020. The main character is likeable and relateable. The story makes fun and kept me interesting from beginning to end

With all its ups and downs the assassin's creed series is a must-play. All games are enjoyable even though generic some times. A great inspiration for a history lover.

  1. The first Assassin's Creed's charm was in the sumptuous graphics and straightforward action - that incredible climbing and free-running, and the visceral thrill of stapling evil people to the dirt with a wristblade. With AC2 the rest of the game has caught up with the brilliance of those central ideas to create a complete and coherent experience. We can think of plenty of words that could describe Assassin's Creed 2 - involving, exciting, cinematic - but there's only one word that sums it up beautifully. Killer. [Dec 2009, p.74]
  2. Assassin's Creed 2 is miles away form the first chapter. It's a whole new game, different in many aspects. The main quest is involving and nice to play, and the number of side mission and extra activities is impressive (and all of them are fun to play). The setting is peculiar and unique, and the panoramic views are sharp and, somehow, magic.
  3. Assassin's Creed II delivers a great story driven experience. Solving most of the problems of its predecessor, this accomplished sequel offers compelling action, beautiful environments and a great plethora of well written characters. A must have for every action-adventure fan with a taste for history, and one of the best games of this fall.
