    +Great, creative level design
+Nice change to the Mario formula
-Controls take a while to get use to
-Camera certainly does not help you out during gravity sections

The best three dimensional platformer in years, with stunning visuals and score, and classic Mario gmaeplay (Meaning fun as Hell.) If you own a Wii or Wii U, you owe it to yourself to pick this game up!

I've never been a fan of the galaxy games. I don't think this is the best Mario game ever, I don't like the starbit mechanic, and I don't think the orchestrated soundtrack. When I'm in the right mood, this is one of the best Mario games I've played. The music is probably my favorite part about it, but the game itself is still a blast, even years later. Some levels make me want to use regular controls at times, but overall, it's a fun game.

This game is fun. It introduces gravity for some interesting new mechanics and sports a beautiful orchestral soundtrack and gorgeous graphics. This is definitely is a must own

Excellent platforming with fresh 3D gravity ideas.

Flawless except for the repetitive "Marioooooooo" storyline and the meaningless Rosalina cutscenes.
2 points deduction therefore from an otherwise mechanically great platformer.

A fun, over the top Mario game. What else could you ask for? I guess Yoshi, but he comes in part 2!

I think this game is good but it tried to hard to introduce the new and leave the old But it is still great. The time I saw this and played it I was hooked and trying it again was just as fun. And in mario 64 you had open levels but this time you got smaller ones which are even more fun than 64's. However the motion controls fall flat. For example the surf levels THEY REALLY SUCK even with wii motion plus it was bad. But it is a rare thing. But the *snicker Ball sections are even worse Because again motion controls. But that is more common but then you have the bubble sections which don't suck. And sometimes they got real lazy with the levels. Like the first level in the engine room is just honey hive galaxy in reverse. Woo real effort 101! But if you look past all of that this game is really solid and for that it gets. 8.5/10 Expand

Super Mario Galaxy's wild mechanics and aesthetics give the challenges a unique flare, while the exceptional level design lets you enjoy them to their fullest.

I really enjoyed this game. While there are quite a few bad levels in this game, the good ones are amazing. It’s creative and it has some fantastic music. The controls are ok. I hate the motion control and the underwater controls, but other than that the are ok. I really didn’t mind that in order to 100% the game, you have to replay it with Luigi. Gripping and fun. A very nice refresh of the main Mario franchise which inevitably starts to feel like it is stagnating. But exceeding expectation Nintendo really managed to outdo themselves with this, and that is not an easy thing to do

Loved it as a kid still love it as an adult. It's like how much creativity can you put in a game? Almost no limit when it comes to Mario games. Only bad thing is the Boss fight machanics are very similar in each fight, the Boss Fights can't keep up with the creativity of the rest of the game.

Everything is great, and it is good to see older power ups in this game, but I prefer 64 and sunshine because of the level stucture.

    beautiful music and art design
cool enemies, unique areas to explore (very varied)
gameplay is decent but the controls aren’t great
a game that you don’t put a huge chunk of time into at once, but split it up into smaller amounts over time

Just like the first few Super Mario Galaxy games, the gameplay centers around going to seperate galaxies with missions in each galaxy, some mostly based on planets, some basic 3D missions and some basic 2D levels. With Launch Stars transporting the player from one planet to another in the planet based levels. However there's a new gameplay mechanic, the Reality Shift.

I get why people love Mario Galaxy, and to be honest it really is a lot of fun. That is, until it isn't. Many levels are just boring or have aged awfully. I had always wanted to play Mario Galaxy and after completing the game, I must say, I am really disappointed. Whilst being a decent game, playing it after odyssey or even 3d World feels off.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A great game that sadly offers little challenging side/post-game content. The trial galaxies are fun but are over quickly and the purple coins are painstakingly annoying to get. The atmosphere and soundtrack are incredible but there are many instances of stars that just do not feel gratifying to collect because of how easy they are. I understand the team needed to do this to appeal to the casual audience of the Wii but for me the difficulty of the sequel was much better done. Expand

Nintendo has crafted a platform game that, while not as technologically pioneering as its grandfather, is, level for level, more fun to play than "Mario 64." [Dec 2007, p.128]

Galaxy proves that Mario matters just as much today as he did 25 years ago, and that makes him one of a kind in this medium. But don't play Galaxy simply because Mario is the timeless godfather of gaming. No, play Galaxy because it's fantastic.
