A re-release of the GameCube remake, which remains a masterclass in atmosphere after all these years.
-
Boasting an intense atmosphere, satisfying puzzles and nail-biting combat, it's a game that will linger long in the memory for those who succumb to its dark allure. If you missed out on this the first or even second time around, then now's the time to pick up a true classic - at the right price.
-
If you find yourself wondering why Archives has received a different score than its GCN predecessor despite the fact that the two games are nearly identical, note that what held true seven years ago does not necessarily still hold true today.
-
Still haven’t played Resident Evil after all these years? This is the perfect moment to try it. Don’t expect an easy game, but a wondrously horrid atmosphere in one of the groundbreaking titles of the horror – survival genre. In comparison with the Gamecube version, you won’t get a lot of new things, but this classic doesn’t need many extra’s.
-
One could say RE: Archives it's an easy way to make money on Wii with a 7-year-old game. It may be so, but Capcom's title also represents a great chance for those who never played the first episode in the series.
-
There's no doubting the quality of the game but veterans really won't be getting anything new here, so we can only recommend this to players who have yet to see where it all started. And even they might find the controls long past their sell by date.

Games Master UKIf you missed the Gamecube remake it's worth a look. It's a shame nothing much has been added for the Wii version though. [Aug 2009, p.84]
-
Having multiple control options, not having to change out tiny discs midway through the game, and having better audio are definitely pluses, but I don’t think they are big enough improvements to merit picking up this title if you already own the GameCube version.
-
Nintendo GamerAn old classic, with the emphasis on old. Still scares and enthralls, but the puzzle design is tired and the conversion is shockingly lazy. [Oct 2009, p.60]
-
A true classic survival horror title that still manages to shine brightly in today's market...
-
Resident Evil is still a masterpiece but this remake really doesn't bring any improvement, thinking about the previous version for GameCube (5 years old). It's just commercial but if you missed the last compilation, you can give a chance to Archives.
