Although definitly targeted towards kids, PokePark 2 delivered what the original couldn't. Now with 4 different playable characters, better forms of upgrading, a better story and better controls. While there aren't nearly as many Minigames as there was in the original, which makes the making friends part seem a lot less important, it makes up for it in the pretty areas. As you guys may remember from my review, I actually enjoyed "Poképark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure." Sure, it has its drawbacks, but it's a fun little adventure for the short time it lasts. Sure, it has its drawbacks, but it's a fun little adventure for the short time it lasts. So, when I heard that a new "Poképark" game was being released, known as "Poképark 2: Wonders Beyond," I was reasonably excited. Even though the reviews were less than stellar for this one, so too were the reviews of the first game, and I still walked away from that one quite happy. And ultimately, I walked away from this game even happier.
"Poképark 2: Wonders Beyond" retains many of the great things about the original game: the vibrant and colorful visuals, the simple but fun and accessible gameplay, and the appearance of a lot of different types of Pokémon. However, along with these things, this new adventure brought about some nice changes as well: the visuals have been polished up compared to the first game, as shown through the more detailed and smoother animations on the characters, the combat is a bit better in that the Pokémon have brand new, more varied sets of attacks in the game, the controls have been refined a bit to feel a lot less frustrating, and the story is quite different from the last entry. Don't let the colorful, vibrant artwork on the front cover fool you, this game's story is actually far more developed, and a bit darker, than "Poképark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure," and all the better for it, as it makes things a bit more interesting. And, while the music in the first game was good and enjoyable, I actually found quite a few of the tracks in this game to be even better. It's clear this entry was far more polished than the last, and it's all the better for it.
There are a few minor flaws with this game: once again, it does get a bit repetitive, and the ending of the game once again feels like it was built around the idea of padding. The game also isn't all that long, and you may not find much reason to go back to it after one play, and finally, the fact that there are fewer minigames this time around does hurt a little bit.
Even so, these are just minor flaws in a game that, surprisingly enough, actually feels like an improvement on its predecessor. "Poképark 2: Wonders Beyond" is a really enjoyable game and I definitely suggest giving it a play. It isn't the longest game in the world, but while it lasts, you should enjoy yourself with it. I sure did.

Spent roughly 10 hours on this the other day with my godson. While the controls are pretty horrific, there's plenty of gaming to be had and the level of difficulty isn't too bad so kids can get into it and enjoy it. Unlocking the multiplayer mini-games is a must. Surprisingly fun title if you can get past the crappy controls.

Wonders Beyond is a great sequel to a great game. Its the last PokePark game but the game is still great and whoever hates it I don't know why you hate it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. ...About this game...yeah, it kinda sucks. I mean...you run around and help out Pokemon and befriend them. But...what's the point in that...Pokemon used to be about battles and being the very best..not befriend Pokemon and battling for the greater good...this game even made Reshiram and Zekrom look bad. I wouldn't let any of my family members play this game...the only good thing about this game is how they put Serperior in it...so I am happy, because I love Grass-types. But...nonetheless...this game kinda sucks...not a good game GameFreak... Expand

It's certainly nothing compared to what we have nowadays on the Switch, but Pokepark 2: Wonders Beyond is such a step up from the previous game. Though you lose the option to play with other Pokemon in attractions, you gaon the ability to traverse different kinds of terrain with the 3 Unova starters. There is a sense of danger and a real motivation to save Pokepark, as opposed to the previous game's easygoing nature. The game is obviously geared for children, and my only complaint is that playing for a long time will hurt your thumbs, though that's to be expected of a Wiimote-only game. All in all, it's a wondrous experience and one I definitely think is worth checking out. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Removing my nostalgia glasses and looking at this game from a critiquing standpoint, I still have a great amount of respect for this game's design and gameplay. It has many desirable features, but the game is also subject to some poor design decisions.
The graphics are pleasing to look at for the most part, which can't be said for all Wii games.
Concerning the story, as simplistic as it may seem, it quickly becomes more entertaining than one would expect. The cutscenes that divide gameplay are exciting and attention-grabbing, usually. Sadly, there aren't many of these cutscenes in the game, which is a bummer because they could've supplemented all of the "2" button pressing that you'll be doing when talking to the hundreds of Pokemon that are spread throughout the whole game. Despite this, if you're willing to get invested, the story is uplifting and satisfying.
The gameplay, however, leaves a bit to be desired. The controls involve the use of a Wii remote placed horizontally in the hands, which means that by the end of a play session, you're bound to have sore thumbs, on account of the tiny directional pad and buttons. Despite this, playing the game is quite entertaining. You control Pikachu at the start, and by the end you'll have accumulated three other playable companions; Oshawott, Snivy, and Tepig. Each have design quirks that simultaneously make the game more fun and easy, while also making the game feel longer and more gimmicky. For example, Snivy has what can basically be called a double jump. While this makes it easier to explore the world, there are areas or minigames that require its use, which feels forced in a way. All of the characters have abilities that you could describe as being exactly the same, such as a ground-pound that in fun to use but is required to push a button, or a lightning bolt that looks cool but is used to power a motor that moves something blocking your path. These design choices were obviously intended as a puzzle element, but it ends up feeling like they're making you play more of the game for no good reason.
Concerning the gameplay, I should mention that a key part of the game involves making friends with other Pokemon that roam the PokePark. Throughout the players whole playthrough, they'll be making friends with Pokemon and playing one of four exciting games with each, including quizzes, tag, hide-and-seek, and often the most exciting, battles. These minigames, especially quiz, can tend to get stale after having played them over and over.
Once you make it to what the game calls "Wish Park," which are basically the boss levels, of which there are four, you'll be greeted with a minigame and multistage boss battle for each, except one of them. These, I believe, are the highlights of the game. The minigames have much more depth than any of the games you'd play with a Pokemon in the overworld. The caveat, however, is that all of these minigames, in some way, involve the motion-control or pointer feature of the Wii remote (the curse of Wii games; some sort of integration of cursed and backwards control methods involving swinging your arms around like a madman). I am, however, making these out to be more horrible than they actually are. They mostly involve simple movements, such as shooting at targets with the pointer or tilting the remote to move yourself around a course to collect items. There is, however, a rather heinous one that does require, in a word, "embarrassing" movements (*cough* dancing *cough*).

The biggest limiting factor was the lack of attractions, with only 4 in the game and only one of them being one I actively chose to keep replaying. This game shines the most in its main gameplay- making friends. There are so many Pokémon to befriend, around 200. They all have really nice models and unique animations. I noticed that there were so many nice animations, from unique loading screens to every single skill/attack level up having a cute cutscene of the characters training that skill with their mentor. There is also a massive post game with new areas and a new story to complete, and a ton of friends that you can make. All around, it is a very cute game that offers a ton of fun. Expand

PokéPark 2 suffers from clunky controls and a lack of challenge. Only the young Pokémon fans will overlook that for an overall happy and cuddly game.

PokePark 2 is, more or less, on the same footing as the Dead or Alive Extreme Beach Volleyball games. It's much more kid friendly, of course. But like DOA Extreme Beach Volleyball and Xtreme 2, PokePark 2 is all about playing nice and doing favours (or maybe even "battling") in hopes of acquiring more friends in this world devoid of humans trying to stuff unwitting creatures into Pokeballs.

PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond could have been something great for the fans of Pikachu & friends, but the game disappoints with bad controls, the missing rpg-elements and a poor presentation.
