As a puzzle game, it's just original enough to be engaging and offer a new challenge. But it's the artwork, the zany characters, and the "so bad it's good" voice acting that keep me playing.
-
Nintendo GamerA cute, straightforward, funny and demanding puzzle title. [Oct 2009, p.67]
-
Ultimately, Octomania comes off as a shining example of what a puzzle title can do despite being burdened with cultural barriers a mile wide and irritating characters.
-
Octomania is a cute puzzle game, but that won't keep you coming back for more.
-
Octomania is fun but there isn't enough to it. Align some Octopi, form combos, repeat.
-
Once I had more training at Octo-puzzle, I was able to advance to another difficulty level which was much more of a challenge. It also made the game more fun, even though I was just repeating my journey.
-
The most frustrating thing about Octomania isn't the awfully voiced rapping tree with a rainbow 'fro or having to play through the same few short story mode battles over and over in order to unlock new characters -- it's that winning not only takes a bit of patience and strategy (as you wait for enough colors to be available for large combos), but it also takes a heaping help of luck.
