  1. At the asking price, Gunblade NY/LA Machineguns is a steal. While Gunblade is showing its age a little now, LA Machineguns is still an excellent shooter with an interesting combo system that should bring players back to hone their skills.

Much like this review this collection is short and sweet. Arcade junkies will appreciate these two niche titles finally being available outside of tracking down the cabinets, and the Wii is the perfect platform to release them on.

For barebones-but-respectably-polised arcade fun (and all those terrible voice clips), the Gunblade and L.A. Machineguns pack isn't a bad pick-up.
  4. Sega's Arcade Hits Pack is like a great piece of gum: it's not exactly fulfilling, but it's fine while it lasts.
  5. Except for running through on two harder difficulties, there is little reason to play beyond the initial 20 minutes.
  6. Fun but criminally short, Gunblade NY: Special Air Assault Force & LA Machineguns: Rage of the Machines Arcade Hits Pack is probably not for most of us.
  7. Sega dredges its archives for two of its more obscure lightgun games. Both work well enough, but your Wii remote still deserves better.

Two ancient arcade machines on one disc, and not much else. [Oct 2010, p.85]
  9. A short, but fun, and visually outdated, but still enjoyable, combination for a reasonable price.

It is LA Machineguns that makes Gunblade NY & LA Machineguns Arcade Hit Pack worthy of a look.
  11. Since the games are fun to play and well preserved, Gunblade NY & L.A. Machineguns Arcade Hits Pack is well-worth a one-night rental, but only devoted fans of the originals or arcade enthusiasts should consider a full-price purchase.
  12. Arcade maniacs may be the only ones getting a kick out of this compilation but I still have a hard time recommending it. Perhaps these two titles would have been a bit more interesting as $5 WiiWare releases.Instead, they had to go retail. Ah SEGA, you used to be cool.

Two of the least memorable lightgun games we're ever played. [Oct 2010, p.61]
  14. It's hard to rate Gunblade NY and LA Machineguns Arcade Hits Pack without looking at it through the eyes of a nostalgic. The pack contains two very old lightgun shooters which have nothing to do with the several nice titles of the same genre released for Wii in the last years, and it's not gonna be sold at a budget price.

Despite transitioning to a system completely unlike the positional-based gun system of the arcade edition, the Wii's IR tracking system is still able to accurately track exactly what you want to do. You won't lose accuracy in the new system. With an adequate sound system, you can reproduce that thumping basso gunblast you recall from the arcade. The only real downside is that you will also accurately reproduce the below-par graphics, particularly in the Gunblade NY edition. Low polygon counts and nonexistent textures create a dull set of visuals, but the gameplay can't be faulted. The smaller triggers found on Wii Zappers and their clones also mean finger cramping can (and will) occur during extended play. Really, though, when you get right down to it, this takes some of the best rail-shooter action out of the arcade and puts it into your living room. Full Review »
