I've been waiting for an RPG this good since late '90s. It's really recognizable that developers are from the old Squaresoft. The story is flawless, full of surprises, heartrending moments, stuff that will make you wonder.
The story premises are somewhat strange at the start, but after a bit you will start to understand everything and all the puzzle pieces will get to their spot.

Combat system is really enjoyable. Quests are good, too: the best ones are the story and affinity quests, really fun and enjoyable. The other oens are just collect quest. Forgettable.

    GET IT.
The best RPG since Final Fantasy X.

Ok. So after the first couple of hours, I was going to rate this an 8.5 just because it seems like the first game all over again... which is not necessarily a bad thing. Also, I know it's on the Wii U but the graphics were an eye-sore for me at first. Then, as I played more, I started to realize some of the "pro reviews" were right. It takes some 'digging' to get the most out of this game.Ok. I opened the manual and started to read tips on controls, fight basics, tactics and how to really fight with your teammates. Then the story and gameplay began to really deepen. My brain adjusted to the graphics and the world really opened up for me visually.

This game is EPIC. I can't think of another game out there that has it all like this does. I hope they do an 'enhanced' edition for the upcoming HD Nintendo NX. I can safely say that this game is worth buying a Wii U for.

Best game I played all year. Evolves open world design like no one else has. Explore on land and explore the world vertically. Fully uses 3D space. The game is pretty hardcore and lets you figure it out and no hand holding like older games. Exploring is amazing. Game is overwhelming in a great way. Also just a very beautiful game when you play it. Best game I played all year.

I love this game. As an Anime fan, I think its cool that they picked up Hiroyuki Sawano for the music composition. He's behind the music of Anime like Attack on Titan and Kill La Kill. His tunes in the background set a sort of mood and personality goes along great with the cool Skell mechs fighting dinosaurs and aliens. From a Science fiction fan standpoint, there's some interesting Xeno lore stuff, a huge alien world to explore, friendly and hostile aliens races, and influences from all over the place. It has a Mass Effect vibe sometimes. The game also remembers that it's supposed to be fun, and can have a good sense of humor.

Gameplay has elements from both JRPGs and Western RPGs. The game really rewards tweaking your team to the battle system, and itemization micromanagement, like a JRPG, but quest structure is similar to an open world western RPG. The battle system borrows from the first Xenoblade Chronicles game, where you have the ability to stagger and then topple a target, but it's less boring due to the addition of the Soul Voice system, which encourages chain attacks with squad members. Skells come into the game right when this system starts to get a bit repetitive, and inject another healthy boost of fun.

From a technical standpoint, there are a little rough edges in presentation mostly, but it's overall amazing. There's hardly an actual error or glitch, but the choice to play music loudly in voiced cutscenes was a little dumb. As well as low res character models thrown up close to the camera at times. There's noticeable aliasing a lot, and pop in. On the other side of things, view distance is outstanding, load times are small, the world is seamless (no loading between zone borders), the world is HUGE, the art direction is consistent and immersive, there's some cool looking enemies, and the frame rate is nice and smooth in almost all cases.

As a full package, this is a great achievement of a game. Its amazing that this was possible on the Wii U.

Absolutely fantastic. Beautiful and gigantic hand crafted open world with a sense of scale not seen in any other games. Great characters and story with plenty of drama and bits of comedy to keep it light. Completely absurd amount of content this game will keep you busy forever. Truly Takahashi's ultimate masterpiece.

Also: MECHS FLYABLE IN AN OPEN WORLD. That is all.

This isn't a 10, but I have to balance out the pure, true idiot children who rate games like this zero. You kids ruin user reviews, and if you're adults, shame on you! This is an amazing game, easily a 8/10 so far. The scope, music, and world are great. The story, not so much, but the battle system is fantastic and if you liked the previous one, you will love this!

Absolutely huge game, with a fascinating storyline and so many side quests and things to do it boggles the mind. 10/10 if you don't mind a bit hard work, a lot of gameplay systems to learn and interact with, some of which for me needed a bit of wikia assistance. Also makes excellent use of the Wii U's second screen IMO, for map, fast travel, mining etc. rather than inventory.

After clocking well over 100 hours on Xenoblade Chronicles X, I can assert the following:

    1. This is the biggest video game I have ever played, in terms of scale and the amount of content. At first it was quite overwhelming, but once I got used to its size, all was good. 2. 1. This is the biggest video game I have ever played, in terms of scale and the amount of content. At first it was quite overwhelming, but once I got used to its size, all was good.
    2. The story is highly interesting with its twists and turns. Character development is really great and lends itself greatly to the development of the story.
    3. All missions help with the understanding of each character, irrespective of how small a role they play. In this way, each mission feels like something is being achieved upon completion.
    4. The continents might house the most cliche environments of all time (grass world, forest world, desert world, ice world, fire world), but the level of detail in each really makes each environment feel alive. For example, Oblivia (the desert world) has a huge quantities of debris strewn all over the land. Old parts of machines and spacecrafts can be seen from many miles away.
    5. The atmospheric details are fantastic. Auroras at nighttime, sandstorms, snowstorms, and even meteor showers!
    6. The battle system is interesting to say the least. It took me a long while to adjust to the battle system and get a feel for what's going on. I'd never played the previous game in the series and hadn't experienced a battle system quite like this one. Now that I know how it works, it would say that it's not the best battle system ever, especially for the start of the game. As the game picks up a bit and gets a bit more difficult, you need to strategise effectively. Go in all guns blazing and you could suffer severe consequences.
    7. Skells take too long to acquire. They take even longer to fly with. But the experience is phenomenal once you're finally able to soar through the skies. The soundtrack when you fly is pretty great, too. Which reminds me...
    8. The music in this game is amazing for the most part. I only have two problems with the music as a whole. Firstly, the music for New LA is pretty bad. It's made worse by the fact that you're in that area for a lot of the game. Vocals are seriously unneeded in those two songs (one for day, one for night) and this can really grate on your ears after just a few listens. The second thing is that the music sometimes plays way too loudly when cutscenes are going on, making it hard to hear the characters. Monolith Soft forgot to add in a volume slider, which sucks. But these are only small problems. On the other side of the scale, the music from Oblivia and Sylvalum (the ice world) is the best in the game in my opinion. Maybe I think that because those tracks lack vocals, I'm not sure. But I don't ever really prefer music with vocals in my video games anyhow.
    9. There is always something to do. Apart from missions and exploring, you can also go around collecting items and trying to fulfil the requirements of each of the little segments of the map on your FrontierNav. It's seemingly endless!
    10. For some missions you need to be well affiliated with other characters. This can take some time, but adds another layer of complexity to the game, making every battle you spend with characters important in getting them to like you a bit more. And we all like to be liked, don't we?

Overall, Xenoblade Chronicles X is not a perfect game. But it is more than worthy of a 10 out of 10. It's sheer volume and immersion make it one of the best games I've ever played. And given all of the stuff you can do in it, it will keep you entertained for a very long time to come.

Graphics: PS4 and Xbox One games cannot even compare to the beauty of this game. The anime-like visuals are extremely colorful and detailed that the real world just looks lame now. All the extra details put into the environment is amazing, and I find myself noticing new things every time I look at something.

Sound: Holy crap. The music. Where do I start? First of all, the music is composed by the same person that made music for Attack on Titan, and they did extremely well with this. Most of the game's music even has lyrics, and they don't get old! The battle themes hype you up, the continents themes get your ready to explore; it's all so great.

Gameplay: The only thing taken from the first game is the concept of the battle system. You have arts, and that's about the only thing that's the same. You must position yourself accordingly, manage the moves that use TP, and keep an eye on your secondary cooldowns. What really makes this great, however, is the Soul Voice system. You can change what your player character calls out to the others, and if you request a certain move and they do it, they get a certain boost. This applies to every character; not just you. Successfully performing Soul Voices as they are called out can start a chain of more... and then more. This is especially important because it is your main source of healing, since there is no dedicated healing class.

Other than battle, the focus on exploration is fantastic. I'm 40 hours into the game and most of what I've done is walk around aimlessly, but it's super fun. You don't feel like you're getting nothing accomplished, because discovering everything around you is reward enough.

Story: Obviously I will not reveal spoilers, but what I've seen so far is extremely gripping. The story isn't just in the main story quests, so if you want the most out of it, you'll want to do the affinity missions as well. If you love the game enough though, (Like I do!) you would want to do them anyway. Everything story related is voice acted, and it is done very well (Much like the first game, except less British). In all honesty, I was expecting the cliche "Aliens are invading Earth, oh no!" story, but I got something a lot better. Even with your custom made avatar, the story doesn't fall back.

I cannot stress this enough. If you do NOT have a WiiU, BUY ONE for this game! This is going to be my favorite game for a long, LONG time. Just like the first game, this is one of the best games I have ever played. If you are on the fence, just buy it! If you're already considering it, you're most likely an RPG fan and would love this.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After 45 hours into the game I've found it an incredibly rewarding and entertaining experience. You traverse a huge world, I often find myself spending hours ignoring my missions and just discovering new vistas and landmarks. The combat is incredible, rather than spamming like most RPG's your arts require certain combo's and directional attacks to achieve full potential. With 8 classes to play and no penalty for switching there is no getting bored. The world itself is beautiful and seemingly endless, until you get your skell around 20-30 hours. Suddenly huge enemies become small potatoes as you and your crew roll over them with giant weapons, the world is instantly brought down to size when you get a skell. Without completing the story mode I suppose my review isn't complete but so far this is the best game I have ever played. Expand

first of all, please understand that this is a game with deep mechanics. those of you who loves monster hunter or dark souls might probably love this game, too. while those of you who loves light gameplay that focuses more on storytelling would most probably rant on metacritics and give bad scores :)

the grinding, for instance... with proper builds or infinite overdrive techniques, there's actually no need to grind for level in this game. but what about grinding for items?? well, with proper knowledge of drop rates and part breaks, everybody could get an almost certain drop rate -or just use ticket exchanging mechanics in the first place for items with insanely low drop rate anyway :)

what about the music? well, hiroyuki sawano definitely tried something new here, and i gotta admit that sometimes it just doesn't work at all. but it doesn't mean that the music are bad. most of the songs are pretty awesome when u listen to them on their own. sure, they badly overlaps the character's dialogues at some points, but u could still 100% understand what's going on thanks to subtitles. sure, it's annoying and could be executed way better than this. but saying that the music in this game are bad are just like saying that gordon ramsey's delicious beef wellington tastes bad simply because the waiter served it with the wrong type of wine.

i'm also a huge fan of the silent protagonist. i'm lovin the idea that -I AM- the hero of this game.
u could customize Megaman, u could rename Cloud, u could change Shepard's gender. but they'll always be the hero of their respective games, not you. i like those "become a legend mode" in football and sports games, i play mmorpg, i enjoy being the hero of my game. of course, with that comes the problem of believability, sometimes they had to shift the main dialogue to Elma or other characters to do the speaking for you. but it's as just what i said in the beginning: some people who expected storytelling will be disappointed, but monster hunter fans will have no problem whatsoever -we're used to being a silent protagonist.

    most criticisms that i heard are also came from player's inability to grasp the mechanics;
some say it takes too long to go from point A to point B - hey, there's fast travel.
some say it takes too long to obtain a skell - how long do u think u could obtain airships in FF games?
some say u could get OP and this game is IMBA - well it wasn't easy to make those OP builds. and practically when u went those extra miles to make ur character stronger, u will become somewhat OP. and that goes for any game, if u obtain knights of round in FFVII, reached lv99 in any RPG, or unlocked rocket launcher in classic Resident Evil games, u WILL one hit most of the stuff inside that game.

so yeah, please understand that this is a game with deep mechanics and interesting experimental stuff. for those who gets it, this game is a solid 10. but those of you who loves traditional triple A with light gameplay that focuses more on storytelling should probably pass this one.

thanks for reading my wall of text,
i hope u have fun with this game as much as i do ;)
