I've been waiting for an RPG this good since late '90s. It's really recognizable that developers are from the old Squaresoft. The story is flawless, full of surprises, heartrending moments, stuff that will make you wonder.
The story premises are somewhat strange at the start, but after a bit you will start to understand everything and all the puzzle pieces will get to their spot.

Combat system is really enjoyable. Quests are good, too: the best ones are the story and affinity quests, really fun and enjoyable. The other oens are just collect quest. Forgettable.

    GET IT.
The best RPG since Final Fantasy X.

Ok. So after the first couple of hours, I was going to rate this an 8.5 just because it seems like the first game all over again... which is not necessarily a bad thing. Also, I know it's on the Wii U but the graphics were an eye-sore for me at first. Then, as I played more, I started to realize some of the "pro reviews" were right. It takes some 'digging' to get the most out of this game.Ok. I opened the manual and started to read tips on controls, fight basics, tactics and how to really fight with your teammates. Then the story and gameplay began to really deepen. My brain adjusted to the graphics and the world really opened up for me visually.

This game is EPIC. I can't think of another game out there that has it all like this does. I hope they do an 'enhanced' edition for the upcoming HD Nintendo NX. I can safely say that this game is worth buying a Wii U for.

Best game I played all year. Evolves open world design like no one else has. Explore on land and explore the world vertically. Fully uses 3D space. The game is pretty hardcore and lets you figure it out and no hand holding like older games. Exploring is amazing. Game is overwhelming in a great way. Also just a very beautiful game when you play it. Best game I played all year.

I love this game. As an Anime fan, I think its cool that they picked up Hiroyuki Sawano for the music composition. He's behind the music of Anime like Attack on Titan and Kill La Kill. His tunes in the background set a sort of mood and personality goes along great with the cool Skell mechs fighting dinosaurs and aliens. From a Science fiction fan standpoint, there's some interesting Xeno lore stuff, a huge alien world to explore, friendly and hostile aliens races, and influences from all over the place. It has a Mass Effect vibe sometimes. The game also remembers that it's supposed to be fun, and can have a good sense of humor.

Gameplay has elements from both JRPGs and Western RPGs. The game really rewards tweaking your team to the battle system, and itemization micromanagement, like a JRPG, but quest structure is similar to an open world western RPG. The battle system borrows from the first Xenoblade Chronicles game, where you have the ability to stagger and then topple a target, but it's less boring due to the addition of the Soul Voice system, which encourages chain attacks with squad members. Skells come into the game right when this system starts to get a bit repetitive, and inject another healthy boost of fun.

From a technical standpoint, there are a little rough edges in presentation mostly, but it's overall amazing. There's hardly an actual error or glitch, but the choice to play music loudly in voiced cutscenes was a little dumb. As well as low res character models thrown up close to the camera at times. There's noticeable aliasing a lot, and pop in. On the other side of things, view distance is outstanding, load times are small, the world is seamless (no loading between zone borders), the world is HUGE, the art direction is consistent and immersive, there's some cool looking enemies, and the frame rate is nice and smooth in almost all cases.

As a full package, this is a great achievement of a game. Its amazing that this was possible on the Wii U.

Absolutely fantastic. Beautiful and gigantic hand crafted open world with a sense of scale not seen in any other games. Great characters and story with plenty of drama and bits of comedy to keep it light. Completely absurd amount of content this game will keep you busy forever. Truly Takahashi's ultimate masterpiece.

Also: MECHS FLYABLE IN AN OPEN WORLD. That is all.

This isn't a 10, but I have to balance out the pure, true idiot children who rate games like this zero. You kids ruin user reviews, and if you're adults, shame on you! This is an amazing game, easily a 8/10 so far. The scope, music, and world are great. The story, not so much, but the battle system is fantastic and if you liked the previous one, you will love this!

Absolutely huge game, with a fascinating storyline and so many side quests and things to do it boggles the mind. 10/10 if you don't mind a bit hard work, a lot of gameplay systems to learn and interact with, some of which for me needed a bit of wikia assistance. Also makes excellent use of the Wii U's second screen IMO, for map, fast travel, mining etc. rather than inventory.

After clocking well over 100 hours on Xenoblade Chronicles X, I can assert the following:

    1. This is the biggest video game I have ever played, in terms of scale and the amount of content. At first it was quite overwhelming, but once I got used to its size, all was good. 2. 1. This is the biggest video game I have ever played, in terms of scale and the amount of content. At first it was quite overwhelming, but once I got used to its size, all was good.
    2. The story is highly interesting with its twists and turns. Character development is really great and lends itself greatly to the development of the story.
    3. All missions help with the understanding of each character, irrespective of how small a role they play. In this way, each mission feels like something is being achieved upon completion.
    4. The continents might house the most cliche environments of all time (grass world, forest world, desert world, ice world, fire world), but the level of detail in each really makes each environment feel alive. For example, Oblivia (the desert world) has a huge quantities of debris strewn all over the land. Old parts of machines and spacecrafts can be seen from many miles away.
    5. The atmospheric details are fantastic. Auroras at nighttime, sandstorms, snowstorms, and even meteor showers!
    6. The battle system is interesting to say the least. It took me a long while to adjust to the battle system and get a feel for what's going on. I'd never played the previous game in the series and hadn't experienced a battle system quite like this one. Now that I know how it works, it would say that it's not the best battle system ever, especially for the start of the game. As the game picks up a bit and gets a bit more difficult, you need to strategise effectively. Go in all guns blazing and you could suffer severe consequences.
    7. Skells take too long to acquire. They take even longer to fly with. But the experience is phenomenal once you're finally able to soar through the skies. The soundtrack when you fly is pretty great, too. Which reminds me...
    8. The music in this game is amazing for the most part. I only have two problems with the music as a whole. Firstly, the music for New LA is pretty bad. It's made worse by the fact that you're in that area for a lot of the game. Vocals are seriously unneeded in those two songs (one for day, one for night) and this can really grate on your ears after just a few listens. The second thing is that the music sometimes plays way too loudly when cutscenes are going on, making it hard to hear the characters. Monolith Soft forgot to add in a volume slider, which sucks. But these are only small problems. On the other side of the scale, the music from Oblivia and Sylvalum (the ice world) is the best in the game in my opinion. Maybe I think that because those tracks lack vocals, I'm not sure. But I don't ever really prefer music with vocals in my video games anyhow.
    9. There is always something to do. Apart from missions and exploring, you can also go around collecting items and trying to fulfil the requirements of each of the little segments of the map on your FrontierNav. It's seemingly endless!
    10. For some missions you need to be well affiliated with other characters. This can take some time, but adds another layer of complexity to the game, making every battle you spend with characters important in getting them to like you a bit more. And we all like to be liked, don't we?

Overall, Xenoblade Chronicles X is not a perfect game. But it is more than worthy of a 10 out of 10. It's sheer volume and immersion make it one of the best games I've ever played. And given all of the stuff you can do in it, it will keep you entertained for a very long time to come.

Graphics: PS4 and Xbox One games cannot even compare to the beauty of this game. The anime-like visuals are extremely colorful and detailed that the real world just looks lame now. All the extra details put into the environment is amazing, and I find myself noticing new things every time I look at something.

Sound: Holy crap. The music. Where do I start? First of all, the music is composed by the same person that made music for Attack on Titan, and they did extremely well with this. Most of the game's music even has lyrics, and they don't get old! The battle themes hype you up, the continents themes get your ready to explore; it's all so great.

Gameplay: The only thing taken from the first game is the concept of the battle system. You have arts, and that's about the only thing that's the same. You must position yourself accordingly, manage the moves that use TP, and keep an eye on your secondary cooldowns. What really makes this great, however, is the Soul Voice system. You can change what your player character calls out to the others, and if you request a certain move and they do it, they get a certain boost. This applies to every character; not just you. Successfully performing Soul Voices as they are called out can start a chain of more... and then more. This is especially important because it is your main source of healing, since there is no dedicated healing class.

Other than battle, the focus on exploration is fantastic. I'm 40 hours into the game and most of what I've done is walk around aimlessly, but it's super fun. You don't feel like you're getting nothing accomplished, because discovering everything around you is reward enough.

Story: Obviously I will not reveal spoilers, but what I've seen so far is extremely gripping. The story isn't just in the main story quests, so if you want the most out of it, you'll want to do the affinity missions as well. If you love the game enough though, (Like I do!) you would want to do them anyway. Everything story related is voice acted, and it is done very well (Much like the first game, except less British). In all honesty, I was expecting the cliche "Aliens are invading Earth, oh no!" story, but I got something a lot better. Even with your custom made avatar, the story doesn't fall back.

I cannot stress this enough. If you do NOT have a WiiU, BUY ONE for this game! This is going to be my favorite game for a long, LONG time. Just like the first game, this is one of the best games I have ever played. If you are on the fence, just buy it! If you're already considering it, you're most likely an RPG fan and would love this.

You traverse a huge world, I often find myself spending hours ignoring my missions and just discovering new vistas and landmarks. The combat is incredible, rather than spamming like most RPG's your arts require certain combo's and directional attacks to achieve full potential. With 8 classes to play and no penalty for switching there is no getting bored. The world itself is beautiful and seemingly endless, until you get your skell around 20-30 hours. Suddenly huge enemies become small potatoes as you and your crew roll over them with giant weapons, the world is instantly brought down to size when you get a skell. Without completing the story mode I suppose my review isn't complete but so far this is the best game I have ever played. Expand

first of all, please understand that this is a game with deep mechanics. those of you who loves monster hunter or dark souls might probably love this game, too. while those of you who loves light gameplay that focuses more on storytelling would most probably rant on metacritics and give bad scores :)

the grinding, for instance... with proper builds or infinite overdrive techniques, there's actually no need to grind for level in this game. but what about grinding for items?? well, with proper knowledge of drop rates and part breaks, everybody could get an almost certain drop rate -or just use ticket exchanging mechanics in the first place for items with insanely low drop rate anyway :)

what about the music? well, hiroyuki sawano definitely tried something new here, and i gotta admit that sometimes it just doesn't work at all. but it doesn't mean that the music are bad. most of the songs are pretty awesome when u listen to them on their own. sure, they badly overlaps the character's dialogues at some points, but u could still 100% understand what's going on thanks to subtitles. sure, it's annoying and could be executed way better than this. but saying that the music in this game are bad are just like saying that gordon ramsey's delicious beef wellington tastes bad simply because the waiter served it with the wrong type of wine.

i'm also a huge fan of the silent protagonist. i'm lovin the idea that -I AM- the hero of this game.
u could customize Megaman, u could rename Cloud, u could change Shepard's gender. but they'll always be the hero of their respective games, not you. i like those "become a legend mode" in football and sports games, i play mmorpg, i enjoy being the hero of my game. of course, with that comes the problem of believability, sometimes they had to shift the main dialogue to Elma or other characters to do the speaking for you. but it's as just what i said in the beginning: some people who expected storytelling will be disappointed, but monster hunter fans will have no problem whatsoever -we're used to being a silent protagonist.

    most criticisms that i heard are also came from player's inability to grasp the mechanics;
some say it takes too long to go from point A to point B - hey, there's fast travel.
some say it takes too long to obtain a skell - how long do u think u could obtain airships in FF games?
some say u could get OP and this game is IMBA - well it wasn't easy to make those OP builds. and practically when u went those extra miles to make ur character stronger, u will become somewhat OP. and that goes for any game, if u obtain knights of round in FFVII, reached lv99 in any RPG, or unlocked rocket launcher in classic Resident Evil games, u WILL one hit most of the stuff inside that game.

so yeah, please understand that this is a game with deep mechanics and interesting experimental stuff. for those who gets it, this game is a solid 10. but those of you who loves traditional triple A with light gameplay that focuses more on storytelling should probably pass this one.

thanks for reading my wall of text,
i hope u have fun with this game as much as i do ;)

It does take a lot of patience in order to really enjoy the game, and it will not be everyone's cup of tea, but if you love RPGs, then this game is your ticket to paradise with a thumping soundtrack, huge world to explore. characters who are funny, emotional, and have personalities.

The combat is deep, but accessible. A simple press of the button, and you can switch from a knife to a machine gun. You get to scroll through the selection of actions that range from healing your team mate, to using a big charge attack that will deal big damage. The monsters are plentiful and are they smart. I saw one enemy jump off a cliff from me, he went to get two of his friends, and they all ran away. Another enemy called for help when I was almost ready to defeat it. This shows the developers took a lot of time and care into creating this game.

The submissions can range from really short and easy, to extremely long and difficult. The harder missions of course are more important to the mission, so they will take longer and be harder. The controls are spot-on, the button layout feels right and the movement of the character never felt stiff or weighty. The controls felt natural and easy to master which gives the player a sense of power.

Even if you don't like RPGs, you might want to check out Xenoblade, the music is a good mixture of rock, techno, and symphony. The action is fast, fluid and the bosses are extremely hard, and of course, mechs! How can you not love a game with mechs in it. If you love hard games with a long campaign, (counting the side-quest, it can take over 300 hours to do everything( then this game is a must for you, and if you don't like games like this? The new COD is out, go play it instead, and leave us real gamers to this game.

This is the best JRPG to come out in years. The last JRPG's that came anywhere close to this level of perfection are Star Ocean The Last Hope and Eternal Sonata. Unlike those games thoughThis is the best JRPG to come out in years. The last JRPG's that came anywhere close to this level of perfection are Star Ocean The Last Hope and Eternal Sonata. Just like those two games the graphics in this one are stunning and have their own unique anime-like style, however this brand of anime leans closer to realistic and further away from cartoonish. Unlike those games though Xenoblade Chronicles X focuses more on open world exploration and game play than it does on the story, so it has sort of an Elder Scrolls philosophy behind it. There are a few things you should know before purchasing though:

    1. No level scaling. While exploring the first few areas you will see giant level 89 four armed gorillas and huge dinosaur things that can kill you with one hit. It is important you learn to sneak around stronger enemies and also recognize which ones are hostile. If they have a red eye symbol beside their name that means they are hostile and will attack you if you go near them. If they have a red lightning bold it means they might turn hostile if you bump into them but otherwise will leave you alone.

    2. The combat is turn-based with some real-time elements. Basically everyone has a cooldown on their basic attack ranging from 1 to 2 seconds, so instead of mashing a button to attack you stand there and watch your character auto attack. You have the option to use Arts which have longer cooldowns but deal more damage. You'll be tempted to spam all your arts first thing but strategically it is more ideal to wait until your allies give you the chance to trigger a Soul Voice. This is done when one of them says something like, "I need some cover fire!" or "Move in and do some damage!" After they say something like this either your ranged, melee, or support arts on your hotbar will light up and when you use them you'll get special bonuses and your party will be healed for a small amount. If you are smart you'll always keep an art of each kind ready to use and benefit a lot from Soul Voices, some enemies will be near impossible to beat without them.

    3. Grinding. It is not necessary to grind to enjoy Xenoblade Chronicles X but you will have to in order to get the most out of this game. If you just want to play the story and explore then you can probably get by just doing a few quests and killing whatever enemies you can. However, there are giant monsters and tyrants that you will simply never be able to kill unless you either grind for an Ares90 or grind to make a badass custom Skell OR if you really enjoy grinding you can try to twink your character up to kill those bosses without a Skell. The best build for that is the Ether Blossom Dance, which I'm currently working on. It will let you do millions of damage but the amount of necessary grinding to acquire the gear and augments you need is ridiculous, and some of the monsters you'll have to kill to farm the materials are over level 80 which makes them near impossible to kill. The entire post-game after you complete the story is basically grinding to be more powerful so you can kill bigger monsters in order to grind to be more powerful. If you hate grinding/min-maxing then I caution you about buying this game. If you're a seasoned MMO player who loves creating op builds though this game is just for you.

    4. The music. Okay I'm going to be brutally honest, the music for much of the game is terrible. Now there are some really pretty sounding instrumentals and even some good vocals but those are reserved for exploration, flying in your Skell, boss battles, etc. When you start the game you're in a city/former ship called New Los Angeles and the music changes from day to night. During the day you get some woman wailing to a pretty generic sounding rock beat. For me it is tolerable but I still have to lower the volume. At night though they play this rap beat with this black guy they probably picked up off the street grunting, "Ungh, ungh, ungh. Yeah yeah yeah. Ungh ungh ungh." Needless to say I usually just mute the TV when I go to NLA at night, either that or stop to manage the time and set it to early morning. There's also some vocals in the battle music, and while some of the songs have rap lyrics they are sung to techno/dubstep beats which kind of fit the whole futuristic robot battles on alien planet theme. Now I'm a really cynical **** who pretty much hates 99% of all music so the fact that I can tolerate this music must mean it isn't really all that bad. This wouldn't be a big deal if you wanted to mute the game and listen to your own choice of music but with the soul voices in battle it helps to have an audio cue even though the icons for each art will light up. My eyesight is poor and I'm easily distracted so being able to respond to Elma or Lin's voice helps me a lot, but if you think you can trigger Soul Voices with just the visual cue feel free to mute the game.

Other than some bad music and grinding this is the perfect game for turn-based robot battles

But don't let anyone scare you from getting this game- its freaking amazing! Any Wii U owners would understand how awesome this game is! The BEST RPG on WII U today without any question! So here is how I scored this game in these following categories -

Story - 9 - The story is great! Also, love the customization to pick your character and who you want traveling with you on your team for missions! You get to pick and choose your class at the beginning of the game! The missions are fun and entertaining and provide you with the backdrop as to how you landed in Mira (planet)

Game play - 9.5 - Action RPG but with special Art skills to trigger various attacks, armor, and etc.

Graphics 10 - Most AMAZING game on the WII U by FAR! The best graphics on the WII-U! I would put it close if not better than most PS4 games! It looks very AWESOME - Think AVATAR!

Sound - 9 - I think the sound is great. People have said that the music is terrible. At parts it gets old but its not as terrible as everyone is making it out to be. You can turn down the volume if its annoying but actually hate RAP, and Dubstep but that's only certain parts of the game not the entire.

Controls - 9.5 - You get to utilize the ENTIRE WII U Gamepad! Totally understand how they utilized the Wii U gamepad! Meaning that when you set up your probes and things on the screen you change it via gamepad and fast travel via the gamepad! Its AWESOME! Easy interface and pushing the run does get a little tiresome but otherwise I love using the gamepad with it!

Xenoblade Chronicles X is an outstanding game where you look. Since its announcement, the followers of this title have had a share of hype that has been satisfactorily compensated with a vast and complex, full of challenges and difficulties world. With this Wii-U complements its catalog with great games like Mario Maker, Bayonetta 2 or Splatoon, ranking among the best of the year and defend its position in the current generation of consoles. In true Japanese style, this title dazzles and rubs shoulders with the best of the year as The Witcher 3 or Metal Gear Solid TPP. The gameplay and complex mechanical outset, Xenoblade system CX has a Japanese-style RPG game that does not conform to any type of player. The fight turns in real time, as mentioned by some analysts, may prove to be tedious for some audiences. However, for fans of these titles, the system tends to be a strong point. From my perception, the gameplay is very funny and tends to exploit the game in different aspects, such as hours of play. Whereas Xenoblade CX is basically a huge map full of monsters, cities and environments, the fight for long-term shifts further increase the hours of play and thus can get more out of their "goodness". In this regard, I believe that there is another element that falls within the realm of the gameplay: the wicks. To get out of these machines have to play a good couple of hours to re-open a new world. Upon delve into the world of Mira, at first were dazzled. However, when we finally do with a wick, the world returns to give us another section as if it were a new world. This undoubtedly contributes to extol the image of this powerful title. Graphics Graphically, Xenoblade CX shines. a very good job is denoted by Mololith Soft. The environments are simple and simply stunning. The draw distance has a very good artistic touch that leaves amazed even the most demanding player. But the title also has its flaws; for example, designing the faces and certain enemies not look very nice. Something similar happens with the odd texture. But after all, it met and exceeded. It get to see the perseverance to exploit the benefits of the Nintendo console. Sound With a mix of different styles, I highlight the beautiful orchestra that directs each fight or when we explore the map. Without doubt, the sound tends to also be a plus for Xenoblade CX. It was again a very good job of Monolith since in every moment we have submerged during the fighting. There is a relationship between the concentration akin to maintain when we are in the fight and music. The work is clear and we have delivered a very good maelstrom of issues that may remain in our memories. Innovation As I mentioned in the mechanical, Xenoblade CX innovates and does it with finesse. Called mecha (robots) are one of the instruments that make up this remarkable symphony. When they took a while assimilating Look we find these great robots and when we rode them is time that we begin to fly from heaven and will witness the beauty of the landscape of strange and mysterious look. Frantic struggles we carried out on solid ground, can now be performed in the air. Moreover, another aspect to be considered and also falls into this category, is the diversity of weapons and comrades. You choose who accommodates you on your tour Mira. Recurrently new characters with different characteristics that you can ayudar.Y regarding weapons and equipment appear, there is a word that can summarize all vastness. There are weapons for all tastes and colors, even for wicks. Within the RPG genre, no doubt that this issue strengthens the image of the title. Conclusion Monolith Soft has done. Has taken up his sleeve a real great game that can fall perfectly in two words: perseverance and talent. I think that Xenoblade CX is a work of art which, despite having certain defects, remarkable gameplay tends to the invisible. Also, another term likewise falls within its characteristics, it is systematic. Fights to be long, level up is no easy task. You should seek and take the time to think about all those convenient ways to gain experience. Therefore, to finish at least the game's campaign, you must be consistent and systematic. Manner contrary recommend playing the old type shooter Call of Duty school. For the discerning and not casual gamer, this title should be essential, I recommend it 100%. Greetings to the community 3d Games.

Although the character creator is nowhere near as good as fallout 4's it is still very good. I love the variety of different weapons and armor that reminds me of monster hunter in a good way. Skells are freaking awesome when you get the flight modules it makes the game 1000 times more epic.

    Now for the brief review.

Interesting Sci-fi setting. After war between two alien races Earth is destroid and with project Exodus, humans scape with use of ships to try to find habitable planets. They are track down by one of the Alien races and crashland on an unknown planet. Humanity fid thenselves trying to survive in this new planet, dealing with all sorts of problematic situations. The game instigate the player to think about why the Aliens were in war, why one of these hat humanity and want us dead. Is this all due to a higher cause? was it just a sad accident and they are just destructive beings?

The world is GORGEOUS, best art direction I ever saw in a game. Nothing can match to the beaty and mystery of planet Mira.

Gameplay is sharp. Great improvement of the original Xenoblade chronicles gameplay premises.

Battle is fast-paced and can be very strategic with the player is like the ones who likes to master RPG's battle systems. It has the best of the action battles but without losing the strategy factor of turn based.

Skells work impressively well. They prove how much optimization and programming skills can do wonders even with hardware limitations. See the whole world while flying in the skeel is fantastic. They contribute well to the sci-fi vibe. Give a nice feel of empowerment.

Music is quite original in some instancies. More lyrics than other games usually do. Some fantastic track like Codename Z, Uncontrollable, Noctilum day theme, Sylvalum night theme, and the very original Ma-non airship theme.

Game will not teach you the most complex systems in detail but what the game teachs you is enough for you to work the rest if you are a dedicated RPG player.

Affinity quests and Normal quests are as important and Story quests to build up setting, world and character development.

A great start to what hopefully will yield a trilogy, but this time, different from xenosaga, will be able to convey the full vison of the game director.

I don't really play RPGs let alone JRPGs but this game is excellent. The scale, the amount of content and quests is just staggering. If you don't own a Wii U, this is a game that warrants a purchase. This and Smash bros of course :) 10/10

best rpg of the year and one of the best video game soundtracks i have heard in ages the combat is deep and engaging. the world is one the most interesting and unique world i have ever been in and it truly feels full and alive. although story isn't as involved as in the original it still resonates with me on a primal level like that of fallout 4s best post apocalyptic rpg of 2015 hands down.

Gran juego!

It’s a game that understands the importance of rewarding players for their personal investment, and it makes sure that, no matter how convoluted its design, no matter how lengthy its tangential content, the payoff is always worth the time and effort.

There are moments that make me scratch my head, infuriate me, and even make me cringe, but when I consider the layered mass that is Xenoblade Chronicles X, all I can think of how damn arresting it is. How much of it is there. How much of it is thoroughly enchanting.

Oh, and did I mention the music? Hiroyuki Sawano maker of many Anime related music (like Attack on Titan!) has made truly on hell of a soundtrack YEAH! OH! NLA! Easy GOTY 2015 for me and anybody how loves big JRPGs with 300+ hours of gameplay should buy it ASAP!

There's really something huge about this game. And it's not only the game itself but the amount of work put on it. It sure feels different than the first Xenoblade game, but when you're playing it taking your time you realise why this is one of the best games ever made.

First of all, the content is almost endless. The main story is interesting and there are A LOT of secondary missions.

First of all, the content is almost endless. The main story is interesting and there are A LOT of secondary missions. This was something that I think everyone already knew.

What I try to say is that we have to look further. Xenoblade X provides a giant world to explore. And I mean GIANT. Even the city (New Los Angeles) is enormous. We have no loading screens while we're in open world, where there are SO MANY THINGS on screen. And the framerate keeps stable. Yes. The framerate is freaking damn stable. And that's one of the best things in this game, as the Wii U is not as powerful as other systems, and Monolith have Managed to take all this stuff into a 25GB disc and make it run on the Wii U perfectly. Genius.

On the other hand, you're not just going to kill stuff and leveling up. You will need to help the mankind in order to survive in planet Mira, and that means you can choose what you do in every moment. And there are many ways of helping people, as defending the city from the creatures outside, or being a mediator between some people's relationships, for example.

I can only say this game is, no doubt, one of the best games I've ever play. Totally worth it.

Apart from the opening sequence when the mist is clearing up, after 12h of non-stop gameplay I have yet to experience a single fps drop, even when there is quite a bit of stuff going on the screen, it stays solid. The game play: mash the skills in random patterns and you will be punished against tougher enemies, execute them in a way so that they would compliment each other and you will be rewarded. If you like RPGs I would strongly recommend picking this game up. It will take a long time till we will get a game of this quality again and I mean it.

Also before the release there were a lot of people were saying "well it doesn't matter what's the size of the world if it will be empty", I can tell you, it is FAR from empty.

For the ones who have trouble with game crashing, i must say. its not because of the game, its probably because you're playing in an HDD and using a normal usb cable for the wii u. It does not have enough energy to sustain the HDD, so you have to use a Y cable or else, any game will simply crash(sorry if bad english). Also loved the game.

Im a hardcore nintendo fan. I grew up on rpg classics like dragon warrior and final fantasy for the NES, crono trigger, breath of fire the final fantasys and more for the SNES. Then came the dark ages of rpgs on the nintendo consoles, N64 had next to nothing, and gamecube had a handful, some of those just ports.

I missed the whole wii craze, and i feel like a lot of those who were "hardcore" nintendo fans might have done the same, thats just my opinion. Then i got a wiiu and although its my favorite nintendo system so far, no AAA rpg titles at all for it.

And now we have the biggest rpg to ever grace a nintendo(or is it any?) console.

The world alone is worth the price of admission, i have NEVER seen such beautiful scenery in a videogame. The whole"if you can see it, you can go there" line is actually true in this game, it is HUGE. Ive spent 6 hours traversing primordia, which is one of 5 continents, only to find out ive only discovered 1.7%, 1.7%! Granted ive been picking fights with whatever creature is in my way but still, the game is immense.

The combat is actually a lot of fun once you get a hang of it, something between what you find in an MMO and dragon age.

The UI is fantastic IMO ,equipment screen is great, youll find yourself constantly upgrading the armor and weapons you find, easy and seamlessly.

Classes let you equip diffrent equipment and "arts"(basically your attacks or moves you use in battle) you can also gain permanantly skills from these classes that give you buffs you can then pair to combine them with other classes and their respective arts, which gives you a lot of options to cutomize to your fighting style.

The story is very engaging so far, and the voice acting is top notch, your main character dosent talk, which dosent bother me in the least bit. The music is superb, im finding myself humming to abfew songs already.

Overall, if you like adventure/action/rpg games this is a MUST HAVE whether your a nintendo fan, wii u owner or living person.

The reviews of the game are often may be under 25 year old players who have spent the past few generations playing easy to beat games to the point that anything that requires effort is therefore too much to handle.

The setting of this game is on Mira however regardless of the name the actual setting is a state of confusion and the unknown. The reason why nothing is explained and it is difficult ton explore is just for that reason. Humanity is lost, scared and trapped on a unknown world where no one has any answers and your character must pull humanity up by your sheer will to progress almost alone. Once you understand that, everything begins to make sense.

The music is based on anime scenes. It really come alive during battles where the music matches every fight scene in any anime ever.
Lack of being led around by the hand is because no one knows whats going on.

This game is for any fan of RPG's, all your core elements are there, characters to level up, skills and abilities to acquire, team members to gain, and a story (although much more loose than the original Xenoblade Chronicles (XC)). XCX elevates what I loved about XC, which are sprawling, interactive worlds, with different species (indigens) on an alien world. This brings me to the main draw of this game. A huge, HUGE, sprawling world, that makes you actually feel like a pioneer of Earth as you traverse it. I am already about 15 hours in, and have only scouted about 20% of the first continent (there are 5 in all), and about 4% of another.

Gameplay is complex, requiring the use of the manual (I've not said that in a long time!), and tutorials in game are not much more than a quick combat run through, and then text based pop ups as you move forward through the story. Definitely read the manual. There are a tonne of things to do.

One area of contention with a lot of people is the music. I think this is down to taste. People know what works in an RPG, orchestrated, or even dance type music tends to be the theme, but in this game, it goes to full vocal rock/pop songs to hip hop/R&B type music (New LA seems to be the big bug bear with people), but I really don't mind it, I almost find the NLA music to be catchy in a corny way. But wait until you fight some Tyrants, I love the music in that!

Graphics are impressive for a Wii U, never have I heard my Wii U work as hard as when it's reading the disc to generating the stunning visuals in the game. The game's continents have incredible draw distances, and you only ever really notice the odd texture resolution issue when the disc has to work especially hard (e.g. ending a fight and going straight to a cut scene), but I'm being very picky there. Loading screens can feel long when they happen, but they happen so infrequently that you don't care - they only happen really when starting the game, and when quick travelling. If you run everywhere, you don't get a single cut scene unless you go inside a building!

Combat is good too, you can target specific areas on an indigen (legs, arms, specific weapons they have) and knock them out so they can't use that specific skill anymore. There's not much healing, this is mostly done through 'soul voices' which are commands that your team give to use specific arts and skills that will heal you a little. All characters get a gun, and a melee weapon, and you can switch between these at will.

You can set you 'role' at any time in the game, and swap freely. If you want to focus melee, you can, then switch to a class that favours ranged combat, or support. No worries. Your team mates are kept as the are though (but you can recruit anyone online to your team for periods of time too, to match your style).

This game won't appeal to those who want a fantasy, mystical, story driven game like XC, but for those who like expansive, immersive game worlds, with a vastly improved combat system, then XC2 is definitely for you, and certainly competes for the top spot for an open world game on a console.

This is the new standard in RPGs.

Xenoblade Chronicles X has the most enjoyable world I've had the privilege of exploring. The gameplay is such a step up from the original Xenoblade on Wii(makes the first feel like a beta version), the soundtrack is by Hiroyuki Sawano(Gundam Unicorn, Attack on Titan, Blue Exorcist; need I say more?), and the characters are great if you take the time and energy to invest into uncovering their personalities and backgrounds through the affinity missions. The moment you pilot a skell for the first time is an awakening and keeps the game exciting for many, many more hours.

The art direction is something that deserves a ton of praise. This is by far the most beautiful Wii U game, and a game that would look right at home on any other current gen console. The design of the world is completely alien, yet feels realistic. There are always incredible sights to see and new areas to explore. Even when I got my first skell about 30 hrs in, I had only surveyed about 8% of the entire map, and hadn't even stepped foot into 2 of the 5 continents, Sylvalum and Cauldros.

To sum it all up, if you have a Wii U, why are you reading this review? Go buy this game and play it! And if you DON'T have a Wii U... umm, I guess all I can say is what's wrong with you?

The fun in Xenoblade is seemingly never-ending, thanks to an amazing combat system and lots of things to do.

We got used to developers promising huge worlds to explore, but there’s no other game where the world is so overwhelmingly vast. I honestly don’t know how much time you have to invest in Xenoblade Chronicles X to see everything this game has to offer. [02/2016, p.60]

Xenoblade Chronicles is otherwise great, but the thin main plot and sheer repetition drop the score. [Jan 2016]
