The reviews of the game are often may be under 25 year old players who have spent the past few generations playing easy to beat games to the point that anything that requires effort is therefore too much to handle.

The setting of this game is on Mira however regardless of the name the actual setting is a state of confusion and the unknown. The reason why nothing is explained and it is difficult ton explore is just for that reason. Humanity is lost, scared and trapped on a unknown world where no one has any answers and your character must pull humanity up by your sheer will to progress almost alone. Once you understand that, everything begins to make sense.

The music is based on anime scenes. It really come alive during battles where the music matches every fight scene in any anime ever.
Lack of being led around by the hand is because no one knows whats going on.
Grinding is a complete pleasure. Gone are the days where you'd level farm in a tiny area. Now with the social connection option and the vast world when you grind you're advancing everything around you and getting to explore the world.

This game was everything I hoped for and as a gamer for decades I can finally say the game I always wanted to play in my dreams has finally arrived and it is outstanding.

Absolutely fantastic. Beautiful and gigantic hand crafted open world with a sense of scale not seen in any other games. Great characters and story with plenty of drama and bits of comedy to keep it light. Completely absurd amount of content this game will keep you busy forever. Truly Takahashi's ultimate masterpiece.

Also: MECHS FLYABLE IN AN OPEN WORLD. That is all.

It must be said nevertheless that the graphics are not up to date compared with current PS4 titles e.g. But that is nothing that reduces the overall experience imho.

I would buy this title again for sure.

I love this game. As an Anime fan, I think its cool that they picked up Hiroyuki Sawano for the music composition. He's behind the music of Anime like Attack on Titan and Kill La Kill. His tunes in the background set a sort of mood and personality goes along great with the cool Skell mechs fighting dinosaurs and aliens. From a Science fiction fan standpoint, there's some interesting Xeno lore stuff, a huge alien world to explore, friendly and hostile aliens races, and influences from all over the place. It has a Mass Effect vibe sometimes. The game also remembers that it's supposed to be fun, and can have a good sense of humor.

Gameplay has elements from both JRPGs and Western RPGs. The game really rewards tweaking your team to the battle system, and itemization micromanagement, like a JRPG, but quest structure is similar to an open world western RPG. The battle system borrows from the first Xenoblade Chronicles game, where you have the ability to stagger and then topple a target, but it's less boring due to the addition of the Soul Voice system, which encourages chain attacks with squad members. Skells come into the game right when this system starts to get a bit repetitive, and inject another healthy boost of fun.

From a technical standpoint, there are a little rough edges in presentation mostly, but it's overall amazing. There's hardly an actual error or glitch, but the choice to play music loudly in voiced cutscenes was a little dumb. As well as low res character models thrown up close to the camera at times. There's noticeable aliasing a lot, and pop in. On the other side of things, view distance is outstanding, load times are small, the world is seamless (no loading between zone borders), the world is HUGE, the art direction is consistent and immersive, there's some cool looking enemies, and the frame rate is nice and smooth in almost all cases.

As a full package, this is a great achievement of a game. Its amazing that this was possible on the Wii U.

Compared to the original, I would say that the story is significantly less compelling, but the game is otherwise improved (combat, environments). I'm 80 hours in and less than 50% complete with exploration and side quests.

This should be JRPG of the year. The content; the questing; the EVERYTHING. I have to admit I am nowhere near finishing this game, and that's a good thing since I usually speed-run games on weekends, but something about this game just made me want to slow down. The progress gates are there to protect you from dying horribly. Though I wish there was something that could be done about where all of your party members are (they're listed on the map for where they are most of the time, but you have to add them all one by one). Probably the best thing I can say about this game is that it's the best of both worlds, the Combat system of Xenoblade Chronicles, and the mechs (under the name Skell) of Xenogears. A wonderful combination. I would also like to mention that the story seems fairly solid, some might find it contrived, but well.... it is kinda like a realistic anime type game... so there's not much of a surprise there. But this game doesn't need that story to be good, it has plenty of exploration and customization while having a decent enough story to keep you playing for hours on end!

Only real downside are the progress gates, which while protective, can also be annoying when you just want to get on with the story (chapter 4 requires you to have 15% explored on the main starting continent... it can take awhile just to do on its own).

Monolith Soft has done an extraordinary job of making such a diverse and rich gaming world with an immense amount of things, like the extreme number of alien creature species that all fit the different environments they're in, or all of the breathtaking views of waterfalls falling from strange alien rock formations, and just so much more! The music is absolutely incredible when you're out in the wilderness exploring, but the New LA music during daytime is pretty awful. They could've done better with New LA's soundtrack personally overall, but that's really only where the music falls short. Trying to progress through the story I'm finding pretty difficult because of the requirments needed in order to do them are confusing a lot of the time.

So really, the little problems here and there aren't focused on much because of the amazing content this game delivers, with the deep combat system full of different arts and tactics to use, all the regions and landmarks to explore, all of the diverse creatures to battle, and much more. Xenoblade Chronicles X is one hell of a game that every RPG loving Wii U owner should not miss out on.

If you are looking for a game that baby's you and holds your hand like so many RPG's of this generation have done, then this game is NOT for you.
This game is designed for truly hard-core RPG players, who love to dig deep into the mechanics of a game to pull out new levels of strength that the average player will be baffled over, and want to aspire to.

Xenoblade X is probably one of the first games to come out this gen that goes almost entirely hands-off in terms of hand-holding; from the very start of the game, you're free to wander the world as you please and take whatever path you can find to your goals, even if said paths often end up with you being eaten alive by something you didn't expect.

The most that the game will do, is give you access to a VERY extensive manual, and a few Splash pages to explain general functions at the relevant times.
Other than that, the game leaves the player to their own devices.

Some might find this to be off-putting compared to the level of hand-holding they're used to in other RPG's that have become popular this gen, like Fallout and Witcher, while others will remember this just as fondly as they did the classic RPG's of the old days, when exploration was key to self-improvement and the games were not afraid of being hard on their players if they took steps into areas their builds and stats just weren't ready for.
The difference here is, you can actually circumvent many of those would-be choke points, IF you are clever enough to discover the path around them.
And once you get a flying Skell, this game suddenly takes the term "See that mountain? You can go there." quite literally, allowing you to basically explore every last nook and cranny of every land mass in the game.

For exploration nuts, this is literally one of the best games they can buy on the market; each and every continent is filled to bursting with secrets and challenges to find and overcome, and despite the hardware not being at the same level as other consoles, the visuals are gorgeous and the music is atmospheric in every sense of the word. [outside of the rap, possibly]

The mechanics are deep, and those who love micro-managing and min-maxing their stats and gear will find an experience that rewards their tenacity with God-like levels of power.
But even for those that do not, simply keeping their gear, classes, and levels up to date will allow them to progress and enjoy what the game has to offer.

Despite all of these things, the game is not perfect.
The following points are subject to opinion, but the music is hit and miss, and the lack of volume sliders and Japanese dubs with English subs may be a turn-off to certain gamers.
If there's anything truly wrong with the game, objectively, it's that you have to go out into the city to find party members that aren't currently with you, and that there is no way of tracking the locations of Collectipedia items. [But then again, that's what the internet and guides are for.]

But in the end, these small flaws do not do enough to mar the experience to any significant extent, and that's why my final rating for this game is a full 10.

If you don't own a Wii U and you've been looking for a game that takes exploration to new heights [literally], then you owe it to yourself to get the system and this game.

-There are actually ways to lock yourself into missions that prevent you from progressing. This type of thing feels like an old PS2 game and is in direct contrast to the "freedom" that the game champions and sells to you throughout.

-The game hours are padded. It is very long... about 130 hours to see about a third of the total game and complete the main story. Incredible feat in it's own right. The rest of the time is spent running around for (at times) hours in attempts to gather something for a mission. There is exactly nothing fun about it.

-The main storyline is really bad. Not quite terrible but the antagonist is atrocious. One of the worst game end bosses I have ever played. That is no exaggeration.

Play it. You will love it. And some parts of it you will outright hate. Mainly, farming or pointlessly running around to pick up a drop that may or may not be there but is mandatory to continue having fun. And the moment a game stops you from having fun it becomes a chore and not a game. This game, on rare occasion, excels at that. The rest of the time you are having a ball.

Ok. So after the first couple of hours, I was going to rate this an 8.5 just because it seems like the first game all over again... which is not necessarily a bad thing. I opened the manual and started to read tips on controls, fight basics, tactics and how to really fight with your teammates. Then the story and gameplay began to really deepen. My brain adjusted to the graphics and the world really opened up for me visually.

This game is EPIC. I can't think of another game out there that has it all like this does. I hope they do an 'enhanced' edition for the upcoming HD Nintendo NX. I can safely say that this game is worth buying a Wii U for.

I played the game for around 40 hours now and it is breathtaking !
It's giant, fully open world and immersive.
The gameplay is awesome, the soundtrack georgeous and the graphics spectacular.
Oh yeah, the game also runs totally smooth and apparently has no bugs.
The loading times are also extremly short.
For me it is definitely game of the year.

Tiene fallos como todos, su profundidad lo hace complejo, los manuales son insuficientes y el guion no brilla especialmente, pero sus virtudes los compensan con creces.

This game is fun, regardless of how cliche the story is I really love exploring Mira's many hidden secrets. Although the character creator is nowhere near as good as fallout 4's it is still very good. I love the variety of different weapons and armor that reminds me of monster hunter in a good way. Skells are freaking awesome when you get the flight modules it makes the game 1000 times more epic.

This game is for any fan of RPG's, all your core elements are there, characters to level up, skills and abilities to acquire, team members to gain, and a story (although much more loose than the original Xenoblade Chronicles (XC)). XCX elevates what I loved about XC, which are sprawling, interactive worlds, with different species (indigens) on an alien world. This brings me to the main draw of this game. A huge, HUGE, sprawling world, that makes you actually feel like a pioneer of Earth as you traverse it. I am already about 15 hours in, and have only scouted about 20% of the first continent (there are 5 in all), and about 4% of another.

Gameplay is complex, requiring the use of the manual (I've not said that in a long time!), and tutorials in game are not much more than a quick combat run through, and then text based pop ups as you move forward through the story. Definitely read the manual. There are a tonne of things to do.

One area of contention with a lot of people is the music. I think this is down to taste. People know what works in an RPG, orchestrated, or even dance type music tends to be the theme, but in this game, it goes to full vocal rock/pop songs to hip hop/R&B type music (New LA seems to be the big bug bear with people), but I really don't mind it, I almost find the NLA music to be catchy in a corny way. But wait until you fight some Tyrants, I love the music in that!

Graphics are impressive for a Wii U, never have I heard my Wii U work as hard as when it's reading the disc to generating the stunning visuals in the game. The game's continents have incredible draw distances, and you only ever really notice the odd texture resolution issue when the disc has to work especially hard (e.g. ending a fight and going straight to a cut scene), but I'm being very picky there. Loading screens can feel long when they happen, but they happen so infrequently that you don't care - they only happen really when starting the game, and when quick travelling. If you run everywhere, you don't get a single cut scene unless you go inside a building!

Combat is good too, you can target specific areas on an indigen (legs, arms, specific weapons they have) and knock them out so they can't use that specific skill anymore. There's not much healing, this is mostly done through 'soul voices' which are commands that your team give to use specific arts and skills that will heal you a little. All characters get a gun, and a melee weapon, and you can switch between these at will.

You can set you 'role' at any time in the game, and swap freely. If you want to focus melee, you can, then switch to a class that favours ranged combat, or support. No worries. Your team mates are kept as the are though (but you can recruit anyone online to your team for periods of time too, to match your style).

This game won't appeal to those who want a fantasy, mystical, story driven game like XC, but for those who like expansive, immersive game worlds, with a vastly improved combat system, then XC2 is definitely for you, and certainly competes for the top spot for an open world game on a console.

Im a hardcore nintendo fan. I grew up on rpg classics like dragon warrior and final fantasy for the NES, crono trigger, breath of fire the final fantasys and more for the SNES. Then came the dark ages of rpgs on the nintendo consoles, N64 had next to nothing, and gamecube had a handful, some of those just ports.

I missed the whole wii craze, and i feel like a lot of those who were "hardcore" nintendo fans might have done the same, thats just my opinion. Then i got a wiiu and although its my favorite nintendo system so far, no AAA rpg titles at all for it.

And now we have the biggest rpg to ever grace a nintendo(or is it any?) console.

The world alone is worth the price of admission, i have NEVER seen such beautiful scenery in a videogame. The whole"if you can see it, you can go there" line is actually true in this game, it is HUGE. Ive spent 6 hours traversing primordia, which is one of 5 continents, only to find out ive only discovered 1.7%, 1.7%! Granted ive been picking fights with whatever creature is in my way but still, the game is immense.

The combat is actually a lot of fun once you get a hang of it, something between what you find in an MMO and dragon age.

The UI is fantastic IMO ,equipment screen is great, youll find yourself constantly upgrading the armor and weapons you find, easy and seamlessly.

Classes let you equip diffrent equipment and "arts"(basically your attacks or moves you use in battle) you can also gain permanantly skills from these classes that give you buffs you can then pair to combine them with other classes and their respective arts, which gives you a lot of options to cutomize to your fighting style.

The story is very engaging so far, and the voice acting is top notch, your main character dosent talk, which dosent bother me in the least bit. The music is superb, im finding myself humming to abfew songs already.

Overall, if you like adventure/action/rpg games this is a MUST HAVE whether your a nintendo fan, wii u owner or living person.

For the ones who have trouble with game crashing, i must say. its not because of the game, its probably because you're playing in an HDD and using a normal usb cable for the wii u. When I purchased the game, I was a little apprehensive and although it looked really cool I was worried that it would be too complicated and that I would get bored with it and quit. I had tried the first Xenoblade and it failed to hook me in and just felt too overwhelming in the beginning. Despite X being 5 times the size of the original, that has not been the case with this game. The main premise for the story is fantastic and really all it took for me to get invested int he game. I don't really focus on the story so much as exploring and experiencing the huge world of Mira, and I think if you go into the game with that mindset you will have a good time This is the kind of game that makes me want to take a day off work and just indulge. I considered giving a 7 or 8 because of some of the annoyances like lack of music/sfx volume control and cluttered menus, but I feel that the good points of this game far outweigh the bad. If that changes I will update this review, but I don't forsee that happening.

There is so much to learn, picking up this title truly feels like drifting into a whole new world. I recommend giving the in-game manual a good read!

Some minor complaints about the game: The voice acting is professional, but slow---I would like to see a mass effect style sentence-skipper. The dubbing is obvious, i hope for a japanese voice pack DLC. I wish there were a more integrated questing system with friends, but the current online play is satisfactory. This is largely a single player game, with a few multiplayer missions or world bosses now and then.

But don't let anyone scare you from getting this game- its freaking amazing! Any Wii U owners would understand how awesome this game is! The BEST RPG on WII U today without any question! So here is how I scored this game in these following categories -

Story - 9 - The story is great! Also, love the customization to pick your character and who you want traveling with you on your team for missions! You get to pick and choose your class at the beginning of the game! The missions are fun and entertaining and provide you with the backdrop as to how you landed in Mira (planet)

Game play - 9.5 - Action RPG but with special Art skills to trigger various attacks, armor, and etc.

Graphics 10 - Most AMAZING game on the WII U by FAR! The best graphics on the WII-U! I would put it close if not better than most PS4 games! It looks very AWESOME - Think AVATAR!

Sound - 9 - I think the sound is great. People have said that the music is terrible. At parts it gets old but its not as terrible as everyone is making it out to be. You can turn down the volume if its annoying but actually hate RAP, and Dubstep but that's only certain parts of the game not the entire.

Controls - 9.5 - You get to utilize the ENTIRE WII U Gamepad! Totally understand how they utilized the Wii U gamepad! Meaning that when you set up your probes and things on the screen you change it via gamepad and fast travel via the gamepad! Its AWESOME! Easy interface and pushing the run does get a little tiresome but otherwise I love using the gamepad with it!

    Overall - I am giving this is a 9.5/10

    Now for the brief review.

Interesting Sci-fi setting. After war between two alien races Earth is destroid and with project Exodus, humans scape with use of ships to try to find habitable planets. They are track down by one of the Alien races and crashland on an unknown planet. Humanity fid thenselves trying to survive in this new planet, dealing with all sorts of problematic situations. The game instigate the player to think about why the Aliens were in war, why one of these hat humanity and want us dead. Is this all due to a higher cause? was it just a sad accident and they are just destructive beings?

The world is GORGEOUS, best art direction I ever saw in a game. Nothing can match to the beaty and mystery of planet Mira.

Gameplay is sharp. Great improvement of the original Xenoblade chronicles gameplay premises.

Battle is fast-paced and can be very strategic with the player is like the ones who likes to master RPG's battle systems. It has the best of the action battles but without losing the strategy factor of turn based.

Skells work impressively well. They prove how much optimization and programming skills can do wonders even with hardware limitations. See the whole world while flying in the skeel is fantastic. They contribute well to the sci-fi vibe. Give a nice feel of empowerment.

Music is quite original in some instancies. More lyrics than other games usually do. Some fantastic track like Codename Z, Uncontrollable, Noctilum day theme, Sylvalum night theme, and the very original Ma-non airship theme.

Game will not teach you the most complex systems in detail but what the game teachs you is enough for you to work the rest if you are a dedicated RPG player.

Affinity quests and Normal quests are as important and Story quests to build up setting, world and character development.

A great start to what hopefully will yield a trilogy, but this time, different from xenosaga, will be able to convey the full vison of the game director.

This game has absolutly amazing graphical style. I found myself just staring on the enviroment and creatures on countless occasions. Gameplaywise it might be quite a bit of serious grinding necessary but if you combine it with exploration which you would have to do anyway you dont realize it that much.
On the other hand it never feels like "you HAVE TO do...." because due to the already mentioned awesome style I am always wondering what could be above this waterfall or on top of those mountains anyway on my own.

The beginning feels a little bit slow at first and it's wiertd that I found 3 missions each spotlighting and tutorializing the sensor point system but NO real explanation of how the combat system works. So this game sure expects quite alot of you to figure out on your own. Which isn't a bad thing at all but you can feel a little bit overwhelmed by the game once the difficulty goes up after the first few hours.

My few negative criticism about the game is...

Sometimes it is annoying that there are enemies that attack you if you run past them. It becomes a problem because even the Level2 Moth stops you in your tracks with a level 40 character and that slows the getting somewhere down considerably.
The second letdown i feel sometimes is as amazing the creatures look and move, they sadly dont interact with each other. So you wont see a predator dinosaur hunting his lunch. It's a really small problem but would make the world feel even more alive.

If you read or watched other reviews you hear alot of bashing because of horrible music... I dont feel like that's true on the whole. There are some really good tracks but sure the rest is pretty generic filler music Not bad just not special enough for such an amazing game in my opinion. The music placement on the other hand is sometimes questionable ... Fighting a giant boss like creature that doesnt even fit on the screen in my transforming robot suit and the music is something jazz like...

In the end I really really enjoy this game and if you have a WiiU there is no excuse not to buy it. If you consider buying a WiiU just for this game i hope i could help making up your mind about what to expect. and then buy it ;)

    Oh and for disclaimer reasons

I'm not a fanboy, that is I never played Xenoblade Chronicles for the Wii. The last Xeno anything game I played was Xenosaga and I got lost in the first tutorial area somehow... Anyway, I'm only saying this so you'll know I'm pretty unbiased in terms of the series in general. However, for this game it helps if you have an affinity for JRPGs since there's a lot of common tropes used here.

With that out of the way, the game itself has so many layers to it that it feels overwhelming at first. It can make you feel a little dumb honestly, with it's textbook digital manual and lengthy tutorial pages. At first I thought maybe it wasn't for me and I wasted my money. But I decided to press on and just wander aimlessly for a while and figure things out on the fly, which worked out surprisingly well! It's so much fun to master your favorite combat style (dual blades and guns for me!), explore the wondrous expanse that is Mira and take it all in. This game is offering a real experience, like a great movie or an engrossing novel.

But that doesn't mean you should expect a compelling story or characters from what I've seen so far. I'm fine with it because I bought the game for the gameplay, but some might be turned off by some snooze worthy dialogue here and there. Luckily the cutscenes and character interactions seem to be short for the most part! The music is great though, I absolutely love it! Definitely not your typical JRPG fare and helps establish the tone of the game. It makes up for the lack of a great story in this reviewer's humble opinion :)

What you'll keep coming back for is the very deep combat system and exploration aspects of the game. It's impossible to describe the satisfaction you get from learning the ins and outs of combat, stacking your arts correctly and killing crazy alien monsters. This is why I play video games. I mean sure, we all love a great story a la Metal Gear or Mass Effect or something like that but sometimes you just wanna GAME right?

Anyway, that's about all I got. Give this game a shot! If you already have a Wii U, this will justify your purchase much like Smash Bros, Mario Kart etc but as a great single player game. Now there's a reason to keep the thing hooked up even when I don't have any friends around to Brawl it out with! Game of the Year contender? Probably not, but that's more because it's been an awesome year for games (Bloodborne) and less because of anything wrong with XBX itself.

There are only two major downsides. First, there is the ludicrous and financially crippling penalty every time your skel (essentially: a fighting robot) gets destroyed. A complete wipe of your party (usually four characters/skels) costs so much in-game currency to repair that closing the app via the Wii system menu (there is no "load" command and no auto-save in the game, so save early, and save often!) and going through the main menu is the only viable option. Second, you gain money automatically just by standing around idle. So, what most players do is leaving their Wii U console switched on while going to work/school. The Wii U does not consume much power (compared to other consoles of the current generation), but still this is an absolutely insane mechanic. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Xenoblade Chronicles X is an incredibly in-depth game with hours of exploration, hundreds of items (seems more like thousands), beautifully realized environments, and once you get used to the gameplay, a rich combat system unlike any I've seen for a console. It did have a few minor flaws that wound up taking a point off from my perspective, but if I could give it a 9.75, I would. One thing that took away from a "perfect 10", in my opinion, was the lack of a full game soundtrack on the USB for the Special Edition pack, which isn't going to be everyone's idea of a problem.

While the main campaign is somewhat linear, there are literally hours upon hours worth of free-roaming exploration available both before and after you receive your Skell.

Don't expect to just dive into the game and gain full mastery right away, it definitely requires patience and a love of RPGs, but if the first few hours - bogged down with almost endless cut-scenes - don't scare you away, you'll be very well rewarded for your perseverance. Later stages of the game offer a vastly expanded world of exploration and conquest, with new areas reachable after you complete your Skell Licensing Exam.

That's about as far as I want to go with minor spoilers, the rest needs to be seen to be appreciated.

You traverse a huge world, I often find myself spending hours ignoring my missions and just discovering new vistas and landmarks. The combat is incredible, rather than spamming like most RPG's your arts require certain combo's and directional attacks to achieve full potential. With 8 classes to play and no penalty for switching there is no getting bored. The world itself is beautiful and seemingly endless, until you get your skell around 20-30 hours. Suddenly huge enemies become small potatoes as you and your crew roll over them with giant weapons, the world is instantly brought down to size when you get a skell. Story/Music - The story is fairly generic, bad guys vs good guys but the way its done is fairly unique due to the scale and creativity of the world around you, it really stands out from the crowd, the music is actually fairly odd but the good kind of odd! it's different and it works!

Gameplay - If you play Xenoblade on the Wii then you will feel right at home with the combat and the added class system gives you lots of choice to build your character to your style, though you shouldn't worry too much as you can change your class whenever you like, so experiment and enjoy!

Exploration is good fun, you could turn a corner and run into an enormous level 99 monster or jump in the lake and collect some of the items that become fairly addictive to chase down, you're given freedom fairly early and this is nothing but a strength.

Negatives - This game had one huge negative for me, the mechs, the problem with the mechs is the second you get one with a decent weapon there is very little reason to ever leave your mech and this makes the class system completely pointless for the most part, i felt this hurt the game so much that i have to knock off 2 points just due to all my character customisation being made completely pointless and exploration became so easy and free that it lost that exciting factor.

This is really a 6/10 for my personal enjoyment but if levelling, exploring and open world are your thing, then it doesn't get much better than this. I am still in two minds as to whether I want to trade this in yet but I am now at the last boss on Xenoblade and X doesn't compare for me as I love Xenoblades story. X doesn't really have much story.

Fantastic game and the battle system has a horrible learning curve but is fun once it clicks.

I want to start with the cons since I have two major issues with this game:

    1) Story is rushed and very bare: the actual story and is good, with characters that are kinda simplified but likable and enjoyable: Elma is a very strong leader - and made me question why not make her the main protagonist, instead of me when I'm silent - and Lin is funny but has also a dramatic background. Most character development is done via affinity quests, which are totally separated from the main story but they're pretty good and well written - for the most part.
Problem is, the main story itself feels really poor because one chapter ends too quickly and as soon stuff happens, the game will stop and ask you to go to the next chapter. Add also a huge cliffhanger ending that implies a sequel that may or may never come - because Xenoblade 2 bimbo anime style is more lovely than mature ones - this might turn off people a bit.
Overall, it's good, just too fast and not slow enough to take it in.

2)Fetch-a-thon quests. Almost every single quest in the entire game has a fetching element into it, from collecting animal to poop to whatever, and this could be avoided if there was a codex where it shows you where you can collect them! The areas are huge and each area can or not have the same items and since most quests won't tell you where to find them - besides telling you which region it may be - you can spend HOURS wandering from each side of the area until you find it.
Did I forget that every quest has fetching? Yeah, no joke: even the smallest and simplest of quests will ask you - literally out of nowhere - to fetch items for something and it is such a nuisance that my quest log was filled with these, because I had to search for them or doing the most boring thing ever - search on the internet.
A shame because quests are well done besides the fetching and there is other stuff, like info collecting or mediating or even fighting...but then it will randomly ask you to find some dog poo (I think not?) and said poo might take you hours to find, because you need a specific kind of poo from a specific area!
Bottom line, questing is ruined by constant fetching and it can grow tiresome within seconds from not finding what you need.

But besides those two flaws, I had a massive blast of fun: combat is fast, tactical, fun, and there are so much variation and so many skills and arts to unlock on your character - who's the only one who can change class. There are many characters to recruit (19, with one leaving after reaching a certain point in the game) and the skells alone give you a sensation of power and freedom that only old ps1 games could manage: it was so fun to fly around in the skell the first time I had the module and the world has no loading during flight, so it's all seamless - the enemies might take a while though.
In fact, the game itself is packed with content, so much that it felt like an MMORPG to a point...and that's a bad thing because we all know what happens when an RPG has partial online elements.
There is a reason why White Knight Chronicles failed back then.

Overall it's a very solid game, I have no regrets playing it years later and even if the story is weak the gameplay trumps it over and makes it super fun - even jrpgs need fun gameplay before the story, or else just go watch a visual novel. It doesn't surpass the first Xenoblade BUT it's a very welcoming addition and if you own a Wii U, go grab it.

We might never have a port on the switch so who knows?

The fun in Xenoblade is seemingly never-ending, thanks to an amazing combat system and lots of things to do.

We got used to developers promising huge worlds to explore, but there’s no other game where the world is so overwhelmingly vast. I honestly don’t know how much time you have to invest in Xenoblade Chronicles X to see everything this game has to offer. [02/2016, p.60]

Xenoblade Chronicles is otherwise great, but the thin main plot and sheer repetition drop the score. [Jan 2016]
