Namely, that this game is incredibly underwhelming, in pretty much every way imaginable. Combat is uninspired, the crafting mechanics feel tacked on, the AI is easily exploited especially when objects are in the way, and the story is.... well... laughably bad. The game features repetitive puzzles and embarrassing use of reskinned enemies. The framerate issues and objects in the distance popping in and out is horrible to experience. This game is simply not worth your time in any sense of the word. It is, in essence, an Assassin's Creed type game. It is promoting itself on this promise of delivering a game with a really cool idea, but the reality of the experience is more than simply lackluster. It is downright pathetic..

My personal experience with the game has been amazing. I haven't wanted to put it down and it just keeps getting better and better. I have no idea why there are so many negative reviews on this game. Many from people who either never played it or are leaving 0's because they are mad about the amazing critic reviews it got. Do yourself a favor: If you like Nintendo or like Zelda or are at all open minded about the game, give it a chance. You will be so happy that you did.

I would say it is the best open world game Nintendo has ever made and it is great to be able to traverse the world easily, though the mount system could have been a lot better. You will find that the horses limited motion and the inability to call them from long distances makes it more of a novelty than for practical use. It would have also been nice if Link could actually dive under water. But being able to climb most anything in the game and paraglide off of stuff is a great feeling that should be in more games of this type. I had to cut off a point for the WiiU’s technical problems with the game. First, Almost every time you are in a town you will experience slowdown - it is not bad but is notable. What is the most frustrating is the lack of options for the WiiU controller like in previous Zelda games on the system. It is frustrating to see you ask to put a name in for your horse but can’t use the huge tablet to write it with. Why cant I manage my items from the controller? Why is there no world map on the controller? Why can’t I write down food recipes that I make? The only thing you can do is play the game from the controller like a glorified Gameboy. I also wish there was more variation within what you do in the world. There are many different regions to explore, but you tend to do the same tasks in all of them. Find the large tower to expose the region on the map, look for shines, take out some bandit camps, rinse and repeat. It is all very fun but when you step back you do notice a lack of depth in variation. There are 100 shrines with puzzles and each are quite different and rewarding to solve. However, there is so little in the way of tutorials or guides in the game you will inevitably have go online to learn game mechanics to solves some puzzles. A small school or dojo for you to learn advance mechanics in the game would have been invaluable. Rather than dungeons, they have you solve larger puzzles with a boss at the end. Honestly, this felt weak and there should have been more difference between the shines and the dungeon replacements. However, all the complaints I have listed are pretty small. I do think they add up and take away from the experience a bit, but it is not much. I am not going to call this game perfect like most other reviewers as there are many places they can improve, but what is there is great. If you own a WiiU and enjoy Zleda and/or open-world games, do yourself a favor and pick this up, it really is a fun despite its few flaws and shortcomings. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is great. THE Best Zelda game-play and mechanic wise.

    BUT...

I don't understand how everybody gives this game a 10 right of the bat when the STORY is a series of flashback, a non existent/present villain and gives you no sense of urgency to save Zelda. ( I understand that the open world and liberty to complete this game in any order you want makes it difficult story wise )

I recommend this game to anyone, even non-Zelda fans cause this one changes almost every aspects of what I've grown to know as a Zelda fan. It even made me think of Dark souls a bit in a sense that the environment can be your friend and your enemy,

With this said, I'm a bit disappointed because I was actually hoping for a lot of dungeons (No, I don't think Shrines count haha), and a bit more Zelda Lore ( Triforce, goddesses, a more human-like omnipotent Ganon )

Still, a great game and THE Best WiiU game available ( Come on, the Switch is not a great deal ATM. )

Let me break it down for you. The story and soundtrack are good, but not amazing by any means when compared to the other parts of this game. The combat is fluid and exciting, but can get difficult at times which is truly a change for the Zelda series. Weapon degradation adds to this difficulty. It may be annoying at first, but is barely a problem later on. I can compare the combat mostly to games like The Witcher 3, but it is still in a class of it's own. The game doesn't hold your hand either, so you have to figure out the combat mechanics for yourself, which is another really nice change for the Zelda series, as for Nintendo games in general. When I started the game up, I expected a long, boring tutorial that would lessen my first impression of the game as in other game, but was very releaved that I got a Dark Souls-esque tutorial instead which is how more games should be in my opinion. Another really nice change to this game is how you can go about the game in any order you want, rather than being forced on a linear path like all the other Zelda games. With this freedom comes a large amount of exploration to be done which is completely optional, but also beneficial to you. Anyway, this is very open-ended game with advanced mechanics, and even though I didn't cover everything in this review, I still thoroughly suggest you get this game. Expand

Why the low score? Several reasons. The first are completely hotfix-able if Nintendo wishes to resolve them.

The Yiga Clan Hideout. You will be forced to play stealthy or die to one-hit enemies. Okay, fine. Spend 20 minutes or so learning how to get to the final boss the first time. Then spend 5-10 minutes doing it again. And that is only if you were lucky enough to save once manually

And that is only if you were lucky enough to save once manually as I did. Why? Oh, yeah. Master Kohga has a tendency to despawn if he is hit at the right moment with an arrow. The Yiga Clan Hideout is ridiculous to begin with and we are forced to suffer this insult to injury. Forced stealth with one-hit capable enemies who somehow prevent Fairy or Zora revival is just ridiculous in-and-of itself. Add this mess with the boss to the mix and we have this intolerable circumstance.

Tip for Nintendo: Please fix the boss. And fix the entire encounter while you are at it please. It is beyond maddening.

Weapon durability is horrendous. Weapons rarely last a single fight. Yet somehow your armor is completely unbreakable. I guess we should just swing our armor at the enemies in the game. And if only we could craft weapons from the same materials our amazing unbreakable armor is made from to make weapons.

Tip for Nintendo: Increase weapon durability. Give us a durability status bar. And, give us more options for later weapons what are unbreakable made from the material of our armor which is apparently immune to breaking.

Your horse. Somehow in a land of magic and miracles, your horse must strictly obey the laws of in-game physics. You cannot summon your horse. If your horse is not in range when you whistle it will not come when called. Okay, so, get back to your horse or get to a stable and board and then take your horse. Fine. The annoyance? The annoyance comes with how often you must leave your horse behind. And then, either getting back to the poor beast becomes a chore or starting back, once again, from the nearest stable.

Tip for Nintendo: How about, you just whistle and the horse enters stage left; or behind? It would work just fine.

Dungeons? Trials. Okay 120 trials. 4 divine beast encounters. Sadly all lack the proper dungeon look and feel. I am fine with them. I just wish they had included a handful of solid dungeon content worthy of previous Zelda titles.

Tip for Nintendo: Please do not forget the dungeon content.

Music is atmospheric but overall lacking.

Tip for Nintendo: Bring back more sections with catchy Zelda-themed music.

Finally, the story. Yes, I know, it is Zelda. The excuse is harder to make in 2017 than it would have been in 2002 or 1995 or even 1985. The story is okay. Not bad. Not great. Just okay. This last one has no easy fix so I will simply accept that this is Zelda and that Nintendo is stuck on that front.

Tip for Nintendo: While I am not expecting the Witcher 3 in terms of content or subject matter, try taking the Zelda approach for a more expansive story and not just an expansive game world.

In short, if they fix these issues I will reconsider. Until that point, too many bugs or just plain poorly chosen game design sections to recommend.

Right out of the gate, Breath of the Wild wows you with its graphical fidelity and lack of knowing what the heck is going on. After some trial by fire and figuring out the basic idea of what's happened in the land of Hyrule, you get a sense of "Where do I start...?" from the world. Vast landscapes, and the ability to go literally ANYWHERE you can possibly see, are quite daunting at first. However, the thrills of adventure, discovery and the chance to test your mettle loom FAR above that overwhelming feeling of "just how big is this world?"

From combat to exploration, Breath of the Wild has given me all kinds of fuzzies. Sure, the brittle as hell weapons are a nuisance... at first. Once you figure out where to find some decent goodies, you find yourself hoarding rusty weapons to feed to Octoroks, hunting down overworld mini-bosses and making note of enemies that drop some NICE pieces of equipment (shields, weapons, bows, arrows). Thankfully, the use of a "blood moon" respawn mechanic allows you to make good use of these. Another thing that let's you keep track of them all is the "tablet map PIN" mechanic. You can put pins to depict all kinds of things on the map! I have locations of mini-bosses pinned ALL over the place! And I still have yet to unlock the whole map!

Once you've found yourself a direction to head in, some useful equipment and a general thirst for adventure, you find that hunting down the shrines (of which there are 120), finding all of the landmarks for your memories, conquering all of the dungeons and defeating all of the bosses rather attractive. Every conquest is more enjoyable than the last. Figuring out something's weakness and then exploiting it is a blast. Hell, even finding new ways to approach a situation are just as fun! There are MANY ways to play through the massive world. Stealth tactics and assassination of most enemies, melee (sword n board, 2-handed heavies, mid-ranged spears), ranged (many kinds of bows, tons of different types of arrows, magic rods), dodge-triggered counter-attacks, special weapon abilities, etc. You can tune your playstyle to the game's massive open world. Some things work better than others in certain situations, but for the most part you can play the way you want!

From wrangling horses to mountain climbing to paragliding, you have MANY options for exploration. Don't wanna do the dungeons right away? No problem! Explore the WHOLE world first! Your inner completionist is twitching? BotW has you covered! Find and snapshot EVERY single creature, weapon, item in the game to add them to your compendium for more detailed information! Don't want to lose the cool new weapon you picked up? Make note of where you found it (if it wasn't from a chest) and come back to get more when everything respawns! Found some new fashion that you REALLY want but is kind of expensive? Go farm precious gems from the big stone mini-bosses and sell em to get precious rupees! You do you, when you want!

The one thing I WILL say is that the unique weapons you get from each race can be replaced... for a rather expensive venture. I will refrain from using these weapons until I get to Hyrule Castle, so that I can use them on the way to the final boss! They have good durability and excellent attack power, but having to replace them when I'm a metric ton of hours away from the end of the game just feels silly. Them, plus the Master Sword... they only take up 5 slots total, and I currently only have 3 (MS, Zora and Goron weapons). The rest are taken up by various weapons for various situations.

One of these days I will get to finish this game, and every step Link takes will be more exciting than the last.

My hat goes off to you, Nintendo. You've outdone yourselves this time. I wish that the earlier weapons in the game weren't as fragile as crystal wine glasses, but whatever. That is my only gripe. As such, 9/10! Bravo!

I have given this game a number of chances. I think this is the third time I have stopped playing and I can't see any hope for it. First time I came upon some of the surface flaws. Weapons breaking. This is the number 1 flaw in this game. I really don't care what their theory was for why this was a good idea, it plainly was not. It discouraged me from going anywhere or doing anything. every time I saw a monster or a tree or anything that required a weapon, I avoided it. what is the point in using your weapons when the trade-off is just not worth it. it's not a sensible risk. you would have to be an idiot to attack a group of enemies in this game, because you come out worse than you went in. for the most part when playing this first time, I avoided most encounters, I avoided exploring and I only ever used the worst weapon I had in my inventory at any time. because why would i want to break the best weapon I have? I might need it later. The whole system is just ridiculous. If I could repair them , then it might have made it better, but as it happens, it just discourages you from actually playing the game. I played this until I had defeated the first beast, in zora domain. at this point I felt like the story, the quests, everything was too disjointed to make it worthwhile playing with this weapon breaking dynamic. I was in Akkala and I realised the only way to get any fun out of the game was to be free to explore. so I quit.

Second time I played it, was after getting latest CEMU and the unbreakable weapon mod. This made a big difference. I finally felt free to actually play the game. I knew there was a carpenter in Akkala somewhere do I decided to explore with that as my basis. it felt like the only interesting thing that I had in my mind from my previous playthrough. So I spent a long time exploring that place. found some korok seeds, completed some shrines, smashed some rocks, picked up some plants, etc. I was just enjoying the game for 'what it is'. I played this way for about a week. I found the carpenter, and found the workshop. Carpenter just gave me some fetch quests, and the workshop was a tiny bit of story but nothing really major. It was at this point I realised that there wasn't really much in this game other than collecting things. the shrines are boring and dull. just a bunch of mini puzzles. I can get that from any indie game on steam. I don't do that because I don't like dull repetitive puzzles. I don't see any point in just collecting stuff. I certainly don't feel any kind of reward from the damn koroks. So it was here that I realised I was wasting my time. I was going to quit, but I noticed there was DLC available.

Third chance I gave this game. the DLC. I learnt I could get a thing for my horse so that I could teleport and actually bring my horse with me. that makes a big difference. so I went on that quest to do that. not a great quest to be honest. it involved looking for a bunch of places with very vague and obscure clues. for something that is supposed to help you to actually explore, the designers thought it made sense for you to have already explored everywhere. so it's an actual pointless item, that is only really available to the players who no longer need it. I heard about other things in this game that do the same thing. oh well, I went on the quest. what was it. a couple of treasure chests stuck in the ground. not flair at all. so that was disappointing. There is so much more wrong at this point I started to get angry. if it's raining, you can't see, so you have to wait, but you can't 'wait' because you can't make a fire in the rain. even under a shelter. There is so much more bad stuff, and no good stuff. no reward, no story development. The game is just terrible. This is like skyrim without the quest lines or interesting stories.

This is a Zelda game but it has got its flaws. They should be mentioned and the eternal Nintendo nostalgia should be put aside because it has metaphorically become a source of sickness.

Starting with the hardware and the frame drop is a source of frustration. A company the size and economic power of Nintendo should be doing better than this. It should be avoiding the eternal excuse it is the game experience that matters. Lower quality graphics can be ok but frame drop is unacceptable, anti-game experience and repeat frustrating.

Continuing with the gameplay, the one-shot game overs and the constant breaking of the weapons is another source of frustration. It even goes beyond frustration and generates anger in the player. Travelling long distances for exploring and suddenly getting one-shot is not nice. This is a first open world for Zelda and the flaws are more than visible. The balance in the open-world playing experience is not there.

Moving on to cinematics and voice-acting. Once again the experience lacks completeness. There is voice acting in some scenes but once the cinematic is over it goes back to the text boxes. Compared to a game like AC where there is voice acting even during gameplay e.g. when following an ally, Nintendo is lagging far behind in this sector.

Lastly, there is a robotic style of developing a game from the side of Nintendo. What models have we got in our inventory? this and that ok how to combine them together? ok then now use them. First make the models, then robotically dress it up with some reused storyline. Does it fit? Who cares? After creating a story timeline in Hyrule Historia probably for selling a few copies of a book, now it is scrapped just like that. The story is meshed up again.

And my final thoughts: It does not mean that a pioneer in the pixel-era of gaming should continue getting praise even for underperforming open-world modern games, just because they pioneered back in the 80s. If a game like Far Cry gets 8 points on average, when it is much more advanced in gameplay balance and cinematics and overall feeling, then Breath of the Wild is half that and can only get a 4 from my side.

Well it's not good. It's stellar. It's undoubtedly the best open world to date. The game gives a degree of freedom that no game, retro, modern, AAA or indie has ever given yet. You can do anything, in any order. Most signature possibilities of the serie (legendary items, important characters) live alongside more modern ARPG features (equipments and armor, choice when levelling up, "respec) but they're not given out to you in an easy to access menu or displayed obviously on the map and available in every city. No you get to explore a huge world that's living and get these features as you discover the world. The weapons you get are gradually better through probably a pretty smart system that's nearly invisible (honestly, it's mostly just you taking on more dangerous enemies with better drops.

And it all works logically. Cooking is logical and often yields the results you expect once you understand how it works, enemies ALWAYS drop their equipment, it's not random, the physic system is absolutely wonderful.

The story, while not overly present, is more than decent, decent enough for a Zelda game. And let's face it, it had to be quite absent and in the background. That's the only way so much freedom could work. You wouldn't be wandering the world for tens of hours without accomplishing a single quest line if you had any primary quest to follow with a single target to go to. Most completionists end up still doing the main quests before anything else in ARPGs. Doing this prevents this. You are greeted soon enough by the very main quest, but the game openly tells you "go in this place OR this place OR this place OR this place". And even if you don't plan on doing any wandering first, you will most probably end up doing some anyway.

So yes, yes the game deserves a 10. For giving the biggest freedom a game ever has, one of the most actually lively world, and one that will not be equaled before probably the next mainline Zelda (I still hope "secondary" Zelda will keep the standard pattern with maybe some inspiration from BotW, and mainline go the BotW with enhancements, if that's even possible).

Yeah the game is not the future super realistic PBR game, but seriously, if you play video games for the fun of it, who cares ? To be honest, realistic graphics are getting really dull by now. When I play games like this Zelda I almost have a hard time going back to realistic or pseudo realistic looking games because of how awfully bland that looks.

This game may not be the Link to the Past or Ocarina of Time that some people want it to be, but this game is no doubt a masterpiece on it's own. It reminds me of when Ocarina of Time came out and then every adventure/puzzle game afterwards tried to take from those great ideas for their own use. I believe that the same is going to be said for Breath of the Wild, many open world games are going to take from this because it's just that damn good!! Expand

As of April 15 2017 and over 10,000 user votes on both platforms, an analysis of the number of people who rated the game positively (rather than mixed/negative) relative to other Zeldas showed some interesting findings Nintendo should take on board. 1 in 3 people, globally, didn’t rate it positively compared to 1 in 10 for major 3D Zelda games of the past (OoT, MM, WW, TP). Older titles like Link to the Past and its modern sequel, Link Between Worlds, are both also ranked at only 1 in 14 and 1 in 10, respectively, not rating it positively. This clearly shows that age or format of a Zelda game is less important than whether it employs a winning formula—a formula for enjoyment, satisfaction, and fun. Breath of the Wild along with Skyward Sword are the LEAST-LIKED major 3D Zelda games Nintendo have ever released by a substantial margin according to these figures, despite what the North American-centric internet media headlines claim, or what the numerically insignificant ‘critic’ reviews suggest. Good gaming formulas work; trying something new for the sake of it using the Zelda IP, just because a few loud mouths claim the ‘Zelda formula’ is ‘getting tired’, is a recipe for losing respect. After two poor major 3D Zeldas in a row now, I personally can’t buy another one until I’m convinced that it’s good from other sources. It’s a good job the astoundingly enjoyable Link Between Worlds was released recently, otherwise I’d have lost all hope for the series. LttP is an utterly marvellous experience; take note of why and please use that in future Zelda experiences. The game was legendary because of the stunning quality of the musical composition and scoring, the gameplay pace, and the rate at which fun things happened during uninterrupted gameplay. It was tight, original, had a very high ‘fun-density’, and oozed character—all completely absent in SS and BoTW…

Really didn’t enjoy this game despite being very open-minded about it in the run up. It was a mediocre game in itself, and a very, very poor Zelda, relative to the best of past games, new and old. The Metacritic user data also shows this to be the case.

    My biggest complaints are:
    • No sense of designed adventure; felt more like a large complex technical demo than a well-crafted adventure experience. Like Skyward Sword and unlike any 3D Zelda game before it, I established no emotional attachment. This was principally due to the lack of a high quality, emotive, lyrical musical composition written by a master composer who understands the emotional language of music. I can’t stress this enough. Kondo was clearly inspired by the work of geniuses Goldsmith and Williams in the mid 70s-mid 80s in the movie world, and is himself a genius, with strengths in lyricism. This game was emotionally dead and I didn’t bond with it at all.

    • Didn’t feel like I accomplished anything meaningful while playing. Felt like a repetitive grind-fest or a slow, arduous, boring trudge through a mostly baron world. Climbing in particular was absolutely not fun; it was slow and often frustrating. Wandering around collecting stuff for the sake of it, to later grind blindly into materials for things which wear out in 2 minutes. Many gamers around the world don’t like farming—certainly not in a Zelda game! Of the 140 hours sank into this game to achieve 99% completion, about 120 were grinding and walking around/climbing in the empty world, not enjoying myself. I forced myself to get through it because I’d paid so much for it.

    • Cut scenes added very little and voice narration was disruptive to any emotional attachment. Due to the do-anything-without-restriction approach, I also saw them out of order; I saw key characters before I’d met them and lost any sense of story linearity—much like reading a book random chapter at a time.

    • Being one hit-killed, even when experienced, was deeply frustrating. Making a game challenging doesn’t mean the fun has to be taken out of it. This was just bad design.

    • The Wii U features being dropped (causing a delay in release) so they wouldn’t outshine the retrograde Switch console version was offensive and the game suffers for it—particularly when you contrast to how the beautifully done Wind Waker HD remake utilised the second screen.

    • The tedious weapon breaking every few hits made the combat a completely unsatisfying chore. There was no incentive to work for a nice weapon because it breaks in the same few hits as a plain old tree stick.

I could go on and list several other major points… Many others have said similar things in the non-polarised mixed reviews. I just don’t understand why so many people thought this game was outstanding. Less would have been much, much more.

Unfortunately the gameplay options and variety isn't there to carry you all the way.

Its Minecraft survival without crafting, world building, world destruction, or a random world and fresh world every time you play. And I don't even like Minecraft, i'm just sayin this Hyrule is going to get old fast because the world itself is the only thing that got a lot of attention in development. There are re-used assets everywhere, from multiple recolored/reskinned variations of enemies to even there functionally being 6 or 7 different kinds of weapons in the game that were negligently forced into strict attack sets of shortsword, longsword or spear. Reused animations, reused monsters, reused assets everywhere. Even the mastersword explodes into blue dust like every other destructable weapon despite its plot mechanic of "running out of energy" to be returned to your inventory rendered useless for 20 minutes.

The game is as wide as an ocean and deep as a puddle.

This sort of gaming, not based on OCD, list-checking performance goals and gambling theory, has become a relic, a blimp of what gaming was between the Arcade era and the now online era. This game reinvents gaming, by simply, being a well crafted GAME.

What makes BoTW such a GAME? It's breath of course, is considerably more than we've seen before. Not only is it a boggling game world, but the density and detail is by far and above any contemporaries. The amount of brush-stroke-to-canvas, hands-on detail found in this game rivals any triple A and any indie title to date.
From physics, to incorporating existing Zelda combat-mechanics, unto the shear scope and newtonian reactions of the animations, this game is quality. It is not just another stretched and swathed over landscape with icons, narrativeless procedural game-scripts, and little interaction, but it is exactly what we thought last gen was going to promise.

The best analogy is the wonderment we collectively felt for RDR, but even that game was shallow and thin, where Zelda is constantly surprising you with depth and consistency. For instance, I spent a considerable period trying to tame horses, when others were doing it in minutes at the stable near Hetano , I spent 7 collective hrs on a plateau above the region. I used stealth, endurance, and stamina potions and an extra bar of stamina, from horse to horse and the same horse over and over, but constantly met the fate of bucks to the ground. I came back the next day to the area, spent 10 min, and was able to tame that same very heard, some of whom looked identical to the ones the night before. Perhaps it was a glitch, or my tactics although unaltered the second time, were incorrectly applied, but the fact is, for all the tedium, I wanted those horses, and the game remembered the time and effort.

Those horses all had great stats and one of them turned out to be one of the monster horses in the game, so the work was worth the reward. What I was doing, the tedium, was rewarded with better horses and actually never felt like tedium. It wasn't reminiscent of those procedural quest in DAI. It was a fluid mechanic and I felt compelled to do it because of desire for a horse and transportation, not to fill time on my game playing schedule. That's a microcosim of what and how this game operates, and a rather poor one, because much of the game is so memorable and novel so consistently. It's hard to hark back to ex, because of how organic and fantastical the elements of the game world fluently interact.

In regards to review artist complaints, they are unfounded and should be ignored by the consumer. Sterling gave a less than precise indictment of BoTW. His review is a perfect example, like some users, that what is being critiqued isn't this game, but it is being made an example of for the industry as a whole. Due to the content of Sterling's critique, this leaning is toward a continual industry status quo.

The procedural aspects of BoTW, the food cooking, resource collection, weapon deterioration, horse catching and retrieval, stamina during climbs and swims, all are inter-dependent of the other, and work in such an organic, streamlined fashion, the action is rather all ways organic, contextual, and engrossing. Figuring out how to rpg climb up mtn ranges, with the stamina bar acting as a diminishing ticker minigame (and actual mechnics to climb), makes for some highly satisfying traversal, sky-boxes, and topographical depth to exploration. Rather than slip slides, glitches between walls, and falls, you are in control of your able-bodied vehicle, Link, and not glitching your way to exploration. As well the amount of weapons and their incorporated styles, means for action packed survival escapade, where weapons are always in supply, but availability and usefulness, all readily based on the user's skill in the heat of action.

Addressing Wiiu performance issues, the most I have seen is late pop-ins of npcs, never second long frame-rate or controller lags. The game is consistently beautiful throughout all environmental interactions and looks like the WiiU's swansong, just like it feels. In essence, scores demeaning this game based on performance are false critiques, and do not judge this game and it's ability but the anit-wiiu thesis. If these problems aren't consistent on my WiiU, then they are not consistent malfunctions in the actual software. My 60+ hours in, glitches and crashes are not apparent.

Resource collection is useful, rewarding, and easy, and the combination mechanic is entertaining and deep. The smallest mechanics, are fun, glitch free, and rewarding, but mostly they are all conducive to gaming and being in a game, even though they readily interact like fluid nature. This is a GAME, not an imitation

Coming from someone who bought the first Zelda game in 1988, I was looking forward to this new "10/10 Zelda". Promising but...

The low frame rate actually gives me a headache, especially when accompanied by the watercolor style graphics which are more difficult for both me and my wife to focus on. It has a sort of hazy look to it to me. I am literally unable to play it as is.

The divine beasts were also too short, and were all the same. The bosses inside the divine beasts were also the same, and so was Calamity Ganon. I did enjoy the side quests, however, I felt as though the game relied too heavily on the open world, shrines and side quests to make it longer. Yes, Majora's Mask did the same thing, however, it was done so that the side quest all helped with the main quest. In Breath of the Wild, the side quests were just for the sake of it. I also missed all of the regular items.
To conclude, while I enjoyed Breath of the Wild, I hope that Nintendo revert back to the more traditional style of games later on, as I believe that they are way better.

    1. The characters are fun and wacky, exactly what I expect from a good Zelda game.
    2. The stamina system is a really good mechanic and balances with health as a choice when 'levelling up'.
    3. The difficulty is appropriate and creates a good challenge.

I played through so much just because I know there is hidden stuff in the game that I would love to go through and enjoy. It's just a horrible slog through bad game mechanics and dull atmosphere to get to anywhere and you're constantly getting impeded by mini-puzzles that consistently feel like a chore than a valuable part of the game. All this as well as the fact that the game mechanics seem to be designed to discourage you to do things like fight or progress at all. Now, let me go over the cons:

    1. There are no dungeons and shrines are awful. Most of them have unbalanced fights or horribly gimmicky 'puzzles' where the puzzle is bad controls making it hard for you. Where are the long themed dungeons with awesome boss fights that is literally most of the reason most people play Zelda? There aren't.
    2. Crafting, camping, hunting. Survival stuff detracts from the fun of the game, it's not necessary, but you are playing at a disadvantage by not engaging with it, so I either make the game hard for myself or not fun for myself. Bad set of choices, there.
    3. The music is boring and doesn't inspire anything of either fun exploration or the stand-out songs of a Zelda franchise.
    4. The weapon system is awful. They consistently break, meaning due to the lack of EXP or anything, there is literally no value in engaging with enemies unless it is absolutely necessary.
    5. You get all usable skills at the beginning of the game. So where is my sense of progression and fun classic Zelda items like the Hookshot to keep adding new mechanics to the game to aid progressions and keep it exciting alongside the story? Shh, that would have been a good idea (and they're avoiding those).
    6. The map is huge. Great if you're into a massive time-sink. But most of the world is empty and everything is just really far away, so it takes insanely boring runs to get anywhere - when you do get to a shrine you can fast-travel, but you have to get there first. And. It. Isn't. Fun.
    7. The WiiU version has frame-rate drops and some long loading times. A minor gripe, but worth noting.
    8. Most of the game looks the same. It feels like a grind. Shrines look the same, most of the areas have similar areas with slightly different looking trees. Given how big the world is. It really loses the desire to explore very quickly.

Overall, I cannot recommend this game at all. The most it does is vaguely remind me of other Zelda games I would rather be playing. Very disappointing title, I am very upset that I couldn't find it in me to have any fun with this.

Gameplay; this is supposed to be a videogame i.e. it's meant to be fun and entertaining. It instead turns out to be the most boring and repetitive game I have ever played. I had heard of Zelda's reputation for recycling dugeons; wow how many times do I have to redo the same things again? It's as if I have no life besides playing videogames or what? It's just a walking, climbing simulator with annoying mechanics such as temperature and wearing down of weapons and tools. Ok, clearly wearing down is not a bad thing but in Zelda it's a painstaking process. If this was Minecraft at least you could repair just about anything but now this? I quit about 3 hours in.

Graphics: Let's start with the positive: very nice artstyle and physics. The negative? Everything else. This looks like a game from 2012 at best. The original Wii U's Zelda tech demo was soooo much nicer than this. It's a tragedy that Ubisoft and others get crucified over minor graphical downgrades and this piece of crap gets a free pass... and GOTY? What ?

Verdict: 2/10. Even a 5/10 I could think of reasons to return to. This? Nope. This game does not deserve GOTY in fact it would not have attracted my attention if it hadn't and my life would be better for it.

Recommendation; buy the console and game at a place like Costco this way you can return no questions asked if you are as disappointed as I was.

It's tempting to rate this game lower because it was overhyped. It's a very good game, and worth playing. I had heard it described like dark souls meets zelda. The major problem is the fighting mechanics in this game aren't nearly as precise as Dark Souls. It feels like button mashing most of the time. Climbing the Sheika towers gets old immediately.

You should still play it though.

Just recently started playing when all the fuss went away. And truth is the experience has been outstanding. I can easily say I've never had an experience like this. This game truly is a wonder today. Nintendo's approach on gaming experience rather than 4K or else definitely paid out. Must play if one considers oneself as a gamer.

Those caveats are that the world is mostly empty, enemies are mostly identical, the shrines are high in number and visually identical, stamina and weapon durability are problematic and the towers are out of place, as is Link's tablet and it's limited functionality although offering some unique gameplay opportunities. Gone is the epic and intriguing story line from previous Zeldas, the colourful cast of characters and the sprawling and ingenious dungeons with their clever and distinctive bosses, the plethora of deep side quests, the excitement as you open a chest, as well as Link's ever-expanding armoury of tools, gadgets and items that bring with them a feeling of progression as you become more able and powerful. Breath of the Wild is a great game, but it fails to meet the standard of being a great Zelda game. The starting area offers a good hour of fun - a microcosm if you will of what the game is at large, and the extent of the gameplay, which in and of itself is serviceable - as you get to grips with the combat, crafting, climbing and varied abilities of the tablet (magnet, bomb, freeze, and stop time) after which it's probably time to put down and move on. After a while you realize that there is just no point in attacking most enemies because all you do is wear down and break weapons and in return you might get some random worse weapon. With such a big world at least the settlements should be fun right? No. They have minimal NPC and side quest and you form no attachment to them. Compared to previous games - Skyward Sword and Wind Waker , Breath of the wild seems devoid of life.

I've bought the game full price and never finished it. I've played some bad games with good story but here the story is so non-existent that I have no desire to see to its conclusion.

It seems that after development hell the game was still rushed to playable state. It is ok, bo certainly not game of the year. I look at the scores and ponder how so many people can so in love with it. It all feels like a chore, a menial job. Perhaps it is a way to escape stress like soap operas or smoking.

I do not know how Nintendo did it but they just nailed everything. Want to complete quest lines? Go for it. Want to just wander around collecting and crafting, you can just do that too. Even the combat can be stealthy or direct with whiffs of Dark Souls! There are as many ways as you can think of to accomplish something.
The cooking animation alone, IMO, is worth the price of the game.
This is a review not an article so I will wrap it up by saying that if you like open world exploration games like I do, this game nails every aspect with near perfect design.

The only problem I really have is that the X/Y, A/B buttons are reversed from the Xbox controller which is in my muscle memory and I frequently am hitting the wrong ones. I am sure after another 40 or 50 hrs that will not be a problem (although it will become one on the Xbox).

I never thought Ocarina of Time could actually be rivaled, but this game is doing just that. This game's world is massive, yet every bit of it is built with an unprecedented level of care and intention. The world is so beautifully crafted that you just have to stop and stare sometimes. This place is so believable, and it is so easy to get hopelessly immersed inside of it. Exploring never feels tedious or repetitive, and there's always something to do or discover. Also, this game contains one of the most incredible physics engines ever created. Things move around and react to stimuli so realistically and it is so fun to play around with. For example, wind dynamically moves around grass, and if you cut down a tree, it falls in the direction you hit it. The game also has a very dynamic and satisfying combat system, which is simple at face value, but has a lot of interesting and complex possibilities in practice. This game's soundtrack while exploring is largely quiet piano cues from time to time, and while its very subtle, its beautiful and captures the experience perfectly. Town themes are very relaxing and well suited to the location and combat makes use of dynamic music, which perfectly compliment the actions inside battles. Some standout tracks outside of those include the exciting and tense Guardian encounter theme, the catchy accordion melody of Kass's theme, and the game's phenomenal new main theme. Another thing is the visuals. While its not extremely realistic, it doesn't need to be nor is it supposed to be. It has a uniquely stylized look with a vibrant and rich color palette, topped off with stellar lighting and shadow engines. One of my favorite features in the game are the 100+ shrines, which are like mini-dungeons, scattered across the map. Finding them is a blast and inside are some of the most deviously clever puzzles in Zelda history. I don't want to give away anything, but the story, while not a huge focus this time around, is pretty darn good too. And lastly, this game just induces some of the most indescribable feelings I've felt playing a video game. Just walking through the massive landscapes as the sun is setting, and the wind blows through the grass, I just feel happy and at peace. I know that sounded really pretentious but that's the only way I know how to communicate that. At times, it almost feels like a disservice to call this a video game. Breath of the Wild is truly an experience. It has been so long since I've felt so strongly about any piece of media. This is something you really just need to play to believe, and I give it the highest of recommendations. Expand

It was rumoured about a few years ago about an open world zelda game, and when it was finally announced, you can bet that I was one of the many people rejoicing.

This game definitely lives up to its expectation and hype. You see, I'm the kind of person that gets distracted and bored easily. Half-finished games or shows are always left by me, even if I do consider it interesting. So when a game managed to keep me playing for hours, days, weeks, its definitely a 10 for me.

Breathe of the Wild did just that. The puzzles, bosses, enemies were fun and entertaining. It's definitely not dark souls difficulty in term of enemies, nor is the world as big as that of Skyrim, but I felt it was just right.

Many people complain about the easiness of the bosses but i felt the difficulty was just right. People tend to forget Nintendo make family games, not scare-the-kids-and-make-them-rage games. Many people also don't have time nor patience to sit down trying what seems to be more than 10 times on an extremely difficult boss like in Dark Souls.

Next point, the graphics. The graphics are definitely can't compare to that of the Witcher 3, but the texture and graphics in Botw seems to fit those of the Zelda franchise more, giving it more of a fantasy-adventure feel, then a mEdieval feel from the Witcher and Skyrim.

The storyline is also engaging and fun to watch. (My shipper heart bro)

The only few problems I have with it, was that there were moments where the frame-rate drop, usually when it is raining in the game, monsters attacking, and I'm running in the grassy field at that same time. I also wished there was a post-game exploring, instead of going back to the last save before the final boss like almost every other Zelda game.

But, all in all, Breathe of the Wild is an amazing game, that allows not only adults to enjoy playing, but young children like my 9 year-old sister to enjoy as well. The world is huge and beautiful with many hidden suprises at every hidden corner.

And, well, it's among the worst games I've ever played. Graphics are sub par even to other Nintendo titles, early game story is non existent and the sound design is utterly bad (the "pick up a new item" sound is identical to the error message-sound from Window XP, so every time I pick up a new item I think there's something wrong with the console).

I got this game recently, and have just beaten it a few days ago, and I'm going to say that this game is one of the best games ever. How, you might ask. The world is massive, with almost too much stuff to do, but yet it feels just empty enough to make you excited when you see something new. The Great Plateau is glorious, feeling familiar yet distant, making you want to not want to leave it just yet so that way you can explore it all(and when I used Hero's Path mode about a month later, I found that I hadn't even explored that much of it. I honestly think the Great Plateau is the best "tutorial" area(it's more of a starting area), and rivals the genius of 1-1 from Super Mario Bros. Also, the characters are great and bring some variety, there are a whole bunch of mini-games, but you'll probably only play those a few times before you're bored. Then there's the shrines and Korok seeds. Now, I'm not a fan of the Legend of Zelda series because of the massive dungeons that take forever, they drain me, but with shrines, you go in, solve some puzzles for 5-10 minutes, and walk out with a Spirit Orb, which you only need 4 of to increase either your health or stamina. The Korok seeds are even smaller puzzles, taking only 2 minutes at most, and you need more of them than you would need Spirit Orbs to increase your inventory slots. There are 120 shrines and 900 Korok seeds, so you'll be playing the game for a while. The combat is great, with a ton of weapons and an amazing system. People usually complain about the enemy variety or the weapon's durability, but they aren't big problems. After about 10 hours into the game, I had no problems with the durability, and with the enemy variety, that wasn't an issue, since you learn what each type of enemy does and how to fight them. Two things I don't like are how you become super over-powered after you're 6-10 hours into the game(you can basically just hack and slash enemies, no strategy), and how the game bombards you with silver Bokoblins(the strongest type by a long shot) once you get far into the game. Silver Bokoblins aren't hard, they just take a LOT of time to beat(they have 720 health, don't give you the best of rewards, and have a less than mediocre weapon). It just isn't worth the time, so you just run past them. Okay, I forgot one last positive thing, the stables. The stables are like mini-towns and they're in a lot of places, and they mean that there's a shrine very near there, so it's an awesome find. So, is Breath of the Wild perfect, no, but is it amazing, you bet it is. Seriously, some games felt boring after playing this one, and you should definitely buy it if you have the means too. Expand

Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild is a great experience. If this game interests you, buy the game, its worth it. Although this game doesn't come without its flaws.

    Good:
    -Story telling
    -Open world approach
    -Visuals
    -Survival mechanics

    Bad:
    -Framerate
    -Inventory

    Story telling:
I really enjoy the story telling in Breath of the Wild (BotW). The voice acting really fits with the feel of the game, you feel like you are being talked to with proper emotion compared to a text box with words in and an odd grunt while you try to guess if it means their angry or they are secretly a pig (its worth to note that not everything is voiceacted, there is still some text boxes). Another bonus about the story telling is that you can take it into your own hands about how quickly you want to complete the game. People are standing right there to continue the story if you wish or you could go grab a better weapon.

    Open world approach:
Within 1 hour of the game, you are able to get every ability you need for your journey. This makes you feel like you are really free within this world and you can run around all the time if you wish. I love this type of mechanic in the game, it really makes the player feel free. If I want to, I could go halfway across the world just walking along admiring the view or I could go round beating all the enemies before starting an early game quest. The reigns are to you. The only problem with this though is the lack of tutorials. At the start of the game you have to reach a cold area. I could not find any hit on how to get to that area or of any clothing that could help me get across as being too cold hurts you over time. After you beat the first area though, the rest of the world opens up to you where the game really shines.

    Visuals:
The style in the game is outstanding when you think about the limitations they had to put into the game so it could actually run on the WiiU. There are quite a lot of details on link and the enemies when they are breathing down your neck about to one shot you. The draw distance might be a bit of a problem for some people however important things are highlighted and bright in the distance. It is clear to see the next shrine or pillar is even if their a good 10-20 minutes away.

    Survival Mechanics:
There are quite a few survival mechanics which shine in breath of the wild.
Map: You are able to stamp areas of interest for you. For example a camp which is quite difficult or a place to rest for the night. I love the use of the map.
Food: Food crafting is addicting. it seems like you can mix a lot of stuff and it comes out with something interesting. Didn't get a recipe right? Dont worry, you can still use it and eat it. I love just throwing things in the pot and see what comes out of it. You can use it to enhance a foods effects as well. Stealth, speed boost, damage boost its all there and its super cool.
Clothing: Clothes have an affect on your temperature. If you are too hot or too cold you start losing health until you die. Wrap up warm when you trekking up the mountains and get you beach undies out when you are travelling under the high sun. I enjoy this mechanic as everything has a reason to it. You are forced to switch at time to time instead of sticking to the most powerful suit of Armour you can find.
Weapons: Im going to go back on myself in this paragraph. Weapons break easily, its not fun at all. You get this high attack sword but after you cleared out a camp it is shattered into pieces. Higher durability is needed because these break WAY too often. This is the biggest downside of the game for me.

    Framerate:
If you are the type of person who cannot stand frame drops, do NOT buy this video game. This games framerate is mostly soild but when things are happening it can dip. Explosions drop my play experience to 20fps. Villages as well. I do not mind this as their not as often as people are pointing them out to be although I have tried to stay away from bombs as much as I can. It does not feel good for the game and I can only hope they patch this.

    Inventory:
They tried doing a quick inventory system for your weapons, bows and arrows. It does not work. It feels really clunky especially when im in the middle of the fight. Im going through my weapons as my other one broke in under a minute, I accidentally pressed something and it threw my out the menu and got me killed. It is very minimalist. Once, I was battling a group of baddies and I pulled out a weapon, what I didnt know was that it was flammable and it caught fire. Maybe icons could be added to show if they can burn or attract lightning or have some sort of special affect so I can switch for the moment.

    Conclusion:
If you like the look of this game, get it. It is worth it. This is a very good game but it has some flaws here and there. Fans of the series will think this is Game of the Year. I wouldn't blame them

I've played some of their best games from the original Super Mario Bros to Super Metroid to Splatoon; and I can say for certain that they're in fine form. I've had some experience with the Legend of Zelda before, and I loved it, but this takes it to a whole other level. This is probably the most free and non-linear game of all time, or at least very close to it. Rather than make a map and graft paths and story onto it, Nintendo have made a massive map, dispersed story elements and boss fights, and let you loose. The art style is Nintendo through and through, STYLE and BEAUTY over realism: this game nails the open-air feel it set out to capture not by having ultra photo-realistic graphics that imitate the real world to the atomic level, but by conveying the wonder and beauty of the world and creatures through delicious, simple yet complex, visuals and art. The characters are hilarious and relateable, the dialogue is perfect and the voice-acted cutscenes keep the gameplay light and fun and important story moments dramatic and attention-grabbing. Speaking of fun, this is THE most fun game I've ever played. I mostly play games for challenge and story, because they don't focus on fun, only driving you insane with massive challenges and small rewards to keep you coming back. What kept me coming back to BOTW was the FUN, the immense fun. This comes from plentiful mechanics that seek to give and enhance the open feel of the game, without being too realistic and dragging you down. The openness, WOW. If you want to do something one particular crazy way, chances are, you can: there is no limit on height, you can cheat at puzzles, and go wherever you want.
I was hesitant for a long time with scoring this, I'd had such fun, but was worried that it would dwindle and I'd just get used to it. I didn't. I entered a completely new area, extremely hostile and beautiful, full of awesome new characters that had me busting my gut with their ego and ineptitude. The game was fresh again, the variety limitless, the Zelda charm amplified by the new style and risk. I realised that this was the best and most engaging game I'd ever played, and was beyond perfect. Exploration and taking risks were hugely rewarding, and I ended up sacrificing speed and efficiency by not fast-travelling, because the world is so beautiful and exploration is a joy.
My final score for The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The wild is 20/10

I also enjoy the freedom and allowing you to choose your destination. The problem about this is you can be up againts very tough enemies without the weapons you will need to kill them. Also the shrines are probably my least favorite part about this game. They seem like someone just spent very little time on them and the also seem like a chor to advance you character. Some shrines are also very tough for beginers like me. The combat is good once you learn how to use it. In the begining i was often losing to enemies worse them me, but after a few tip videos I was getting pretty good at it. Expand

I believe that Nintendo have pretty much set the bar for what an Open World Experience should be like.

Although there are a vast amount of shrines which are mini dungeons I feel that the Divine Beast dungeons should have had more to them, comparing these main dungeons to previous Zelda Games I feel that they are quite empty and didnt really meet my expectation for a main dungeon. For being the games main dungeons I didnt feel much satisfaction in beating them in comparison to other Zelda games, my only other gripe with the game really is having "special" items locked behind amiibo's that you cannot obtain otherwise, Amiibo's making items easier to obtain is one thing but there should still be other (although harder) methods of getting the same items in game. That is the only reason I have given this game a 9/10 (would be 9.5), even so this game is simply a masterpiece.

A near-perfect adventure game, but doesn't really feel like a Zelda game. It's almost easier to see this as a Zelda "Reboot" of sorts. First and foremost, this isn't the first Zelda game I've ever played, and prior to this game I loved Wind Waker and Twilight Princess a lot due to its fun dungeons and game play, however ever since the release of Breath of the Wild, both games pale in comparison. The sheer amount of things you can do in breath of the wild is truly gives this game a magical feeling, something the previous Zelda games have failed to give us. The true open world experience gives the players a choice on how and what they can do on their own accord, rather than to be pre-programed to do like in the previous Zelda titles. This in itself is a feat that would create a great game, but Nintendo didn't stop there. They made it so the game has extremely high replay ability, having no two games play out the same.

    TL;DR
It's a wonderful game that you should actually try to play and not hop onto the bandwagon of "wow this is actually **** just cause others are praising it.

I'm really impressed how they got all this stuff to fit into a Wii U disc. And i really like that they don't have a long tutorial of how to do everything, like in other Zelda games. It just puts ju right in the Shrine of Resurrection and let you go anywhere. Which is probably my favorite part about the game. It's not like a giant boulder in the way, so that you need bombs to pass. Everything is free. After the Great Plateau, you can even try to defeat Ganon right away (even though that would be pretty hard). Some things that i don't really like about the game is the bland music. There's like a couple of piano notes played here and there but other than that there's not much music. The dungeon bosses were a little lame as well. Almost all of them are just shooting arrows at them. And the weapons breaking can be annoying. But other than those minor flaws, the game is amazing. A must have game for the Wii U and the Switch. It REALLY deserves those 10/10 reviews just like mine and the main reasons i liked it was for the exploration, the fact zelda got more character to her than other zelda games and also that i could connect with link discovering the World (which by the way isn't empty) and discovering all of the shrines.

I absolutely loved this game. My own personal play time of roughly 100 hours was some of the most fun I've had playing a game in my life. Every action I took was done when and where I wanted - absolute freedom to play in Hyrule how I wanted. My own personal play time of roughly 100 hours was some of the most fun I've had playing a game in my life. Every action I took was done when and where I wanted - absolute freedom to play in Hyrule how I wanted. So much freedom in a game is bound to create very personal experiences with a game, with every player having a unique adventure and with their own stories to tell in how they managed to tackle a group of moblins or solve one of the 120 shrines.

The fact that BotW is so personal to whomever plays it is likely one of the contributing factors for the rating a player gives this game. I personally never came across any game-breaking glitches, and don't actually recall having any frame-drop issues. But, that might be due to the way I chose to play the game - little to no combat, high stealth, and lazily walking everywhere I went. I can see how another player who chose to take on BotW in a completely different way might be confronted with different issues, which in itself challenges the "freedom" granted by this game. If choosing to play BotW in certain ways results in a higher likelihood of problems, then it seems to restrict what players can actually do in the game.

As an avid Dark Souls/Bloodborne fan, I enjoyed the flavor of combat in this title. Battles had weight, with enemies dealing HEAVY amounts of damage, and weapons being all-too fragile when in a pinch. The score is thoughtful and subtle, the world is gorgeous and varied, and the story (though thin) has a pretty heavy ambience to it that felt darker and more oppressive to me than it likely did for most other players.

BotW is not without its problems. The voice acting is bad, but not even in a charming "so-bad-it's-good" way ala Silent Hill 2 or House of the Dead. The monotony in a large percentage of the shrines can grind gameplay to almost a halt. The lack of ANY non-breakable melee options is frustrating; even something like a broken hilt or weak knife would be better than being completely unarmed without breaking the game's difficulty. Other players have found ways to break combat with armor buffs, but a casual playthrough like mine didn't see much opportunity to increase armor stats.

In the end, a 9/10 is my subjective score for this game. I have so few issues with it, and can't wait to return to it. It's hard to give an objective score because BotW, like the rest of the Zelda series, is very personal. For those who enjoy BotW, they love it. For those who don't, they, well, don't. If you have a WiiU, there is really no reason to let this one go untried. Rent it. Buy it. Borrow it.

The soundtrack fits perfectly with the scenario where you're exploring/facing/adventuring and so it must be considered a plus.

It's important to note that because of Hardware limitations, the draw distance of the details are reduced, and some texture like the one's used on mountains might look low resolution and some times the game might run into several frames drop, but given the magnitude of the game, it's not even worth to take in consideration on the review note.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a great game. Some may even call it the greatest Zelda game of all time or the greatest game of the year. I respect whoever may say that.

The game opens up and you are on the Great Plateau. Once you get off of the Plateau, you are free to go wherever you want. Do you want to go to Death Mountain? Sure! Do you want to go to Zora's Domain? Sure! Do you want to go to Hyrule Castle? You'll likely end up dead but sure! You can go literally anywhere you can see and that opens up so many opportunities to the players.

Instead of heart pieces, the game gives the player something called shrines. Shrines are like minidungeons scattered across Hyrule. Every shrine gives you a new challenge to complete. Whether it is fighting a killer robot, activating switches, or something else, it is always fun. Once you complete the shrine, you are given an item called a Spirit Orb. Gather four Spirit Orbs and you will be able to trade it into a statue of the goddess, Hylia to gain a Heart Container or Stamina Vessel. A Heart Container increases your maximum health and a Stamina Vessel increases your maximum stamina. Heart Containers can also be found once completing the four Dungeons. This system compared to the old Heart Piece system is much better, as it makes it a bigger challenge to get heart containers.

Dungeons are very different from the dungeons in the old Zelda games. One thing that is different is that you don't have to do the dungeons in any specific order or even do the dungeons at all if you want to. Another thing is the difficulty. These dungeons are much easier than typical Zelda dungeons. In fact, they barely have any enemies whatsoever apart from a few robots and floating heads. Even the bosses are much easier. Another thing that is different is the set up. You get to explore the entire dungeon as you go through it and once you get the map, you are able to change the dungeon itself at will in order to complete it. You don't make your way to the boss room, you make your way going around to terminals to unlock the boss to fight. There is also no special items or miniboss in these dungeons. I truly do like these changes better because it makes being in the dungeon seem like an exploration.

Despite the fact this might be an amazing game, the story is absolute crap. The story doesn't have the emotion and beauty as a normal Zelda game. The only emotion I felt in the story was with a character named Mipha. There are also emotional moments having to do with memories but that doesn't actually have to do with the main story. The story also gets repetitive at times when you are at the point where you have to do the four dungeons.

Hyrule may be big, but it is empty. Outside of towns and stables there isn't much to do besides complete shrines and towers over and over and over again. It gets very repetitive so I wish they gave us more to do out in the wild, like more people to run into, more towns, etc. There is nothing out there. I tend to just hang out by towns because there isn't anything to do anywhere else.

Those are the main points I wanted to explore, but here is my scores for things in a nutshell:
Graphics: 8/10 (Very fitting for the style of game)
    Story: 4/10 (Very lacking)
Voice Acting: 5/10 (Good but very unfitting for Zelda, Mipha, Rhoam, and Impa. Other characters are nice.)
Characters: 5/10 (Zelda is a near perfect character although the other character needed more. Most barely showed up to do anything throughout the entire game except help out with the dungeons.)
    Gameplay Mechanics: 10/10 (Very innovative)
Open World: 7/10 (Wonderful but very empty)
Fun: 7/10 (You will not bore easily)

    In Conclusion:
Sure! Go buy this game! It is a wonderful addition to the Zelda franchise.

To start off, the game-play. The game will potentially have slight FPS drops due to the systems limitations, but they're hardly noticeable in game. Lag spikes are very rare and not a problem. Second, the controls. There is much variety of things to do with Link, all of which are controlled beautifully. Even the motion controls, usually infamous in a lot of cases, work great in breath of the wild. The controls are smooth and feel right. Also, the graphics. The graphics are absolutely beautiful. The detail on the grass is the best I've ever seen in a video game and the gloom effect on the sun is fantastic. The water, even with its simple design looks like I could actually swim in it. And the game is so live! Things are constantly moving, whether its the grass or a bug or an enemy sleeping or traveler, it varies amazingly! The variety of animals is amazing itself! The game constantly contains references to past games, which i'll leave out for spoiler reasons, but if you've played other Zelda games it should come to you. Admittedly, this game is not everyone's cup of tea, it is definitely more of a challenge. I personally enjoy the challenge it gives you, in the past Zelda games were lacking challenge, and this game was actually skill based in combat and had tough enemies. This is also the first game where I felt like Zelda was a character. In the past she was more of an emotionless fill in as a princess you just HAD to safe (except for Spirit Tracks and Skyward Sword) but she felt relatable. Especially when you get really deep in the story, you fall in love with her. And the stories absolutely amazing, especially when you collect all the parts of the story. All in all, Breath of the Wild is my favorite Zelda game and favorite game in general, i'm excited to see more of what Nintendo has for us! Expand

Breath Of The Wild is one the best Zelda games, the open world is beautiful and vast, and there's a lot of things to do to explore it. I don't think this is as good as Ocarina of Time, mainly bacause the story wasn't so great and the dungeons were extremely short.

PS: the game has some flaws of couse but the game is amazing and still deserves a 10 even with these mistakes

This is a good game, but I was disappointed with the lack of enemy variety, items, and dungeons. The shrines are a good substitute, but I would have rather had the dungeons from previous games. The story took a serious backseat to the openworld gameplay and felt very underwhelming. I knocked it two points from a perfect score because I felt like it lacked a good story where previous entries excelled in, the items broke way too easily, and the rain halted any fun I had in exploring the world; I literally had to stop playing the game and sit inside a cave for over ten minutes each instance until the storm passed and it happened alot throughout the game. I love the independence of this game. You have complete control of where you want to go, and what you want to do. There is no companion saying you should do a certain quest or go to a particular location. The overall open world is truly beautiful, possibly some of the most stunning scenes I've ever seen in a video game.

Gigantesco, épico, maravilloso, divertido, desafiante, sobrenatural, impresionante, superior, único... y me quedo corto

I got the Wii U version of Breath Of The Wild because I knew I couldn't wait until I got the Nintendo Switch later on in the year. Running around the tall grass in this huge world didn't make the game lag, at least I didn't notice it. Pop in and pop out also happened but I barley payed attention and didn't ruin the experience for me. I'd say my one complaint I have with the game is a few of it's shrines. I mostly played the game with the pro controller but there were a few shrines that required motion controls to beat it. During these times I had to switch on over to the gamepad so I could beat it, then switch back to using the pro controller once more. I also wish you could manage inventory on the gamepad but sadly you cannot. But these minor complaints, plus some lagging issues, don't ruin the experience of an otherwise great game. I'd talk about the game itself, but I won't waste your time telling you things you already know. If you still don't have a Switch and are one of five people to own a Wii U, this version isn't as bad as you may think. But seriously though, get the Switch, Mario Odyssey is out and you're missing out. Expand

Amazing game, but i can point out a lot of things that i wish will be improved in next Zelda game. The world is amazing but sometimes i wish there were more than only shrines and koroks. Game also needs more enemies variety and better interactions with peoples in Hyrule. Sidequests are boring and not worth doing in most cases. The plot was somewhat disappointing. Total **** **** music, **** puzzles, **** dungeons, empty world that's slow to navigate, the stamina of a 2 year old, some of the worst voice acting ever, poor dialogue, fetch quests, repetetive, plain enemies, poor weapons system. The whole game sucks balls. If that's not enough to deter you, it has **** performamce too.

So I’m probably one of the biggest Zelda fans. And I do think they did an amazing job on the open world concept and I loved the new weapons in the game. However I hated that your weapon broke down in a short time and the dungeons were horrible it was nothing like the other Zelda games and the bosses sucked. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is an absolute joy to play as it's an undeniably rewarding adventure set in a deeply immersive world. Although the experience is weighed down by a few minor problems, the overall journey is one that no gamer will soon forget.

Breath of the Wild can’t be compared to the likes of The Witcher 3 or Skyrim because it’s not trying to be those games -- it’s a Nintendo game -- and series -- all grown up. It has a lot to offer and will keep you engaged for lengthy periods of time. If you’re playing on Switch as you absolutely should be, then you can also Zelda wherever you go. It’s arguably not the best Zelda game, but damn, it might be the most polished, and the most ambitious.

Does it have the best combat system in the world? No. Is it the best looking game out there? No. Does it have the best RPG soundtrack ever? No. Can the game make you feel like you are eight years old again? Hell yes. It certainly had that effect with me. It has been a long time since exploring, fighting, and adventuring has so consistently brought a smile to my face. Breath of the Wild is such a wonderful experience that once you play it, you will likely never look at open world games the same again.
