As a Zelda fan, I consider Breath of the Wild a good game but it's not as perfect as most reviewers say because:

    1. Poor acting choices (Zelda)

If you decide to include a few (and just a few) voices in the game just do it right! Zelda has always been one of my favourite characters since Ocarina of Time. She was mysterious, daring and somehow cool. I'm so disappointed with her ridiculously trembling voice that no one can believe nor take seriously.

There are a few other issues with the game but Zelda's voice is something that could have been chosen right easily!

    2. Frustrating climbing

It rains a lot in Breath of the Wild and whenever it rains, you can't climb. It's that simple. I was stuck on an island with no shrines around and no way to make fire but I wanted to explore it anyway. All I could do was wait a long while until I was able to climb to keep checking the island. Another good example is when you are near the top of the mountain and then it starts raining and you fall all the way down. Lovely! To make things worse, 90% of the terrain requires climbing.

    3. Disappointing dungeons (including the mystical ones)

I firmly believe that they are the worst in the series. Mostly, they are superficial and gimmicky.

    4. Awkward inventory system

You have to eat food to restore hearts and stamina in a pause menu which feels very awkward to do while climbing and fighting. Also, all weapons break easily so you have to hold right to open the weapons menu and select another weapon in the middle of almost every single fight, which literally breaks the action.

    5. Technical issues (choppy frame rate and game freezing)

Noticeable technical issues don't make a good game bad but they are detrimental to the enjoyment of the game, period.

    6. Visuals are good and bad

Some places look quite good, like the beaches and sea, while other places look not exactly pointillist but just blurry a la Skyward Sword.

    7. Music (where?)

Seriously, where's the music? All you are going to hear most of the time is some short harmonies (no, it's not your phone's notifications) or background sounds. And why did they replace the old ranch music with the new and much worse one? Zora's music is still awesome but it's drowned in the water and can hardly be heard.

    Conclusion

I still like the game quite much regardless of its issues but after over 80 hours I can't see why it should be considered the best Zelda game ever. Reviewers will admit this eventually, once enough time has passed by. There are a few articles daring to say so already. I think some hidden Switch marketing is the reason for many websites to crown Breath of the Wild. Nevertheless, it's a good game that is so overrated.

After the disaster that was Skyward Sword & the terrible controls of Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks (having to cover the entire screen Link is on with my hand to be able to move around is just a terrible design decision), I didn't go into this game expecting anything. If not for the trailers showing it to be much better, I might not have gotten the game at all. I got the Wii U versionAfter the disaster that was Skyward Sword & the terrible controls of Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks (having to cover the entire screen Link is on with my hand to be able to move around is just a terrible design decision), I didn't go into this game expecting anything. If not for the trailers showing it to be much better, I might not have gotten the game at all. I got the Wii U version and found the game to be quite good. I had started to grow concerned for the series, but with this amazing game, I no longer feel that way. The open world feels more like the original NES Zelda than any other game in the series, while still being very much its own thing, and this return to the series roots breaks a lot of the conventions that I've had a problem with ever since Ocarina of Time.

Though as someone who enjoys exploration far more than combat, I do feel like the enemies should have far less health than they do. In the original Zelda, fighting a group of blue lynels with the wooden sword was very difficult, but completely possible. Fighting just one with a boko club in this game is simply impossible... But at least the combat difficulty curve isn't based on how patient you can be, like it was from Ocarina of Time through to Skyward Sword, which was a terrible design decision.

The enemies also don't feel very varied, simply because such a large percentage of them are humanoids, which all seem to act pretty similarly. Where are the tektites, leevers, pols voice, & poes? And if you're going to favor humanoids so much, why not a few with play styles that are a bit more different, like the boomerang-favoring goriyas, or the slow-but-tough gibdos and redeads? Thankfully, most combat can pretty much be ignored for those who wish to simply run past it, so I'm not going ding the game on that, but it's a thought to share..

The world to explore is huge without feeling empty like Ocarina of Time's larger areas, or feeling repetitive like most open worlds seem to do. For example, I enjoyed Fallout 3 & New Vegas, but didn't get Fallout 4 simply because I got so tired of staring at a brown screen, and with the same assets everywhere, most places didn't feel unique enough to really remember where what was in relation to one another. Breath of the Wild's regions are colorful and varied, with no areas feeling too samey to one another.

All in all, great job on this. 10/10 from me!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This might be the worst Zelda game I have played yet, which is so sad because it easily could have been the best if they didn't pull typical modern Nintendo and modern triple A tactics to ruin their game.

The strong point of this game is the beginning of the game (yep, typical triple A game) and the exploration aspect of it. It's mostly pretty to look at too. That's about where the strengths end unfortunately.

We don't get many characters so I'll just summarize my gripes with the game:
-The weapon durability system in this game is trash. I'd say every weapon was made of glass but that'd be an insult to glass, it's more like fighting with peanut brittle. I'm not kidding you that every single weapon in this game breaks after one or two enemies. There is no indication of durability aside from your weapon will notify you when it is 1 or two wacks away from breaking. As a result you are never excited to ever receive a new weapon (which makes up most of the shrine treasure chests in the game) because you know it's just pointless.
Literally the only weapon in the game you have any excitement for is the master sword, not because it's necessarily anymore bad ass than the rest of the weapons, but because IT DOES NOT PERMANENTLY BREAK. Oh don't worry, it still breaks, it just comes back into your inventory after a set amount of time.
Why oh WHY are people ok with this god awful weapon system? It is not fun at all plain and simple. It doesn't "solve open world issues" like everyone is claiming it does, all it does is pointlessly slow down the game and kill the momentum with constant micro managing of your inventory. In fact, that leads into my next gripe:

-The game is big but it's not actually as big as it needs to be... it's made much "bigger"(aka longer) due to pointless unfun mechanics that slow the game down. We've gone over the weapons, but how about rain and lightning? Half the game it's raining it seems, and since 90% of what you'll be doing in this game is climbing the **** of mountains everywhere, you basically are forced to just put your controller down, go into the kitchen, come back and see if the rain has let up yet, because you'll never be able to climb any significant cliff in this game (yes even with full climbing gear) due to slipping down constantly in the rain. And since your stamina is such a joke in this game until you hit end game, you'll never climb a decent sized cliff in the game for the majority of it. Lightning is even more annoying. If you have any metallic weapon, bow, OR shield equipped, you have to manually removed them. And considering 90% of **** everything you'll get in those categories is metallic - surprise - you get yet another unfun inventory managing pause of the game to unequip everything or else you'll get one shot killed by lightning. I'm not even exaggerating.

The difficulty in this game is jacked up beyond all repair as well. It's open world so you are free to complete it in any order you like, but let's just say you are somewhat directed to complete the zora dungeon first due to mian quest lines nudging you to that area of the map. If this was actually a well designed game, the option to go take on harder dungeons would be a good one but it should not be the one you are nudged into going to first. Believe me when I say the zora dungeon is hands down the hardest thing you will ever do in the game. I'm not exagerating when I say you'd have an easier time just going straight to hyrule castle and taking on ganon.

Meanwhile the rito dungeon is so laughably easy that many of the 120 shrines in the game are actually harder than that entire dungeon. And don't get me wrong, the zora dungeon is not hard due to a well designed set of puzzles or anything. You can just google it and do the dungeon in 30 seconds but where's the fun in that? The four main dungeons in the game are basically just brain teasers, but while the other 3 are at least somewhat clever, the zora one just makes no sense at all and goes against everything the game has taught you up until that point.

Running out of characters so I'll get on to the ending - boy oh boy I haven't been this disappointed in an ending anticlimactic sequence since Fallout 3 (and this is actually worse). The only good thing about it is the music of hyrule castle. Beyond that, there is zero thought you have to put into getting to Ganon, literally just climb a few mountains and you're there. And Ganon himself... hoo boy. I am not kidding you when I say that a silver bokoblin puts up a harder fight than this guy. It is such a joke of a final boss. I don't even think I ever got hit once by him on the first try beating him and I am not a good gamer at all. His movements are slow and telegraphed, his health total is a joke, and once you beat him you don't get treated to any decent epilogue ending sequence at all (would have at least given SOME point to all the pointless quests you did in the game)

Gameplay hours does not equal a good game. Neither does freedom or a good physics engine. These are novelties, or components, of what can make a good game. I'll admit, I'm in the minority, but I personally don't care much for open world games, and I don't like RPG's. I do love Zelda though. Ocarina of Time is the best game of all time, and Link's last outing in a Link Between Worlds was nothing short of pure genius. I even liked Skyward Sword a lot. But those games were about varied gameplay and puzzle solving. In prior Zelda's there were constantly new items and abilities that would change the gameplay. Getting the hookshot didn't just change where you could go but it changed how you could solve puzzles, how you could travel, and how you could fight in a way that made the game feel slightly different once you got the hookshot. There isn't that varied gameplay in this entry. There's something to be said for having all your abilities available so soon in the game and being able to travel wherever you want immediately, but they did sacrifice gameplay variation for this. From start to finish the gameplay never really changes or is varied much, and that is very different from any other Zelda. I did mention earlier that I like puzzle solving elements of Zelda games, and that is what is very good about this game. Previous Zelda's often only had one way to solve a puzzle, this games unique physics engine has made it so you can solve a puzzle in a variety of ways. That is very cool. But it takes 35 minutes to traverse to the puzzle because along the way you break 1 shield and 3 swords, have to cook 3 meals and die Dark Souls style 4 times from random enemy camps. This thing is a time pit, and not in a way that I like. Skyward Sword had varying temples and lands that were very artistically inspired. Breath of the Wild is inspired not by art, but by nature. And I can understand that appeal, but the flashy, highly stylized and varying elements of Skyward Sword appealed to me a lot more. I wanted to like this game, but I'm nearing the end I just haven't found it as enjoyable as any Zelda I've played before it. A miss from Nintendo in my book. Expand

This is also 100% my opinion of the game based on my experience so far. i have not read a single review yet as i want to have the least biased review possible.

    Overall Impressions:
The game starts off with a voice speaking to link. I was surprised that a Zelda game could finally have some sort of voice acting. It was also nice that the game doesnt force you into pointless tutorials, the game teaches as you play and become immersed in the world around you. after you leave the starting room, the title appears and introduces you to the massive world you will soon explore. Overall a decent start to the game. The starting section of the massive world however is linear at first with little to do except power through.

    Overall 2/3

    Graphics:
The look and atmosphere of BOTW is stunning, even on Wii U. The world seems to be alive. plants regrow, the textures look well designed and the sound track is incredible. Not much else to say here

    3/3

    Gameplay:
While it is refreshing to depart from the old Zelda formula, this does have its clear flaws. Alot of element of gameplay are simply borrowed from other games ex: Elder Scrolls, Far Cry, Assassins Creed. But what the game does barrow makes sense for an open world game. The Combat leaves much to be desired. I enjoy learning my enemies and figuring out how to use my weapons to win a combat, this quickly becomes tedious when constantly switching to different weapons when they break. Crafting is bare bones with little customization and some enemies can attack from what seems to be outside of the render distance. What first impressions i had and the appearance of the game makes up for lacks heavily in overall game play. i found looking for new weapons to be more of a chore. Perhaps the biggest drawback to the combat is the lack of rolling. Im not against changing the zelda formula, i welcome it, but removing such a useful game play mechanic made my experience suffer greatly. Just try to play any Dark Souls game without rolling at all. you cant. Links powers on the other hand are creative original and fun to experiment with. On a final note, WHERE DID THE DUNGEONS GO?????? its just simple and easy challenges like, 1 puzzle or 2 despite being hundreds of these locations in the game. this just seems like lazy game design to me.

    1/4

    Final Score 6/10

I enjoy this game, but it still leaves much to be desired. i have been a Zelda fan for years, and i praise all additions to the series. But i think there is a long way to go, i hope Nintendo can at the very least going forward(for a new zelda game), bring back the roll, fix the weapon degrade system and include ACTUAL DUNGEONS.

I have been a fan of the Zelda series for most of my life and have played all of the 3d Zelda games multiple times. While I have really enjoyed every 3D Zelda game, I have felt that each one after Ocarina slipped a bit further down in quality. Ocarina of Time was the best Zelda for me and while new entries always offered a few cool new features they usually seemed to lose something as well, so the series never really got better with time. Every entry I kept hoping that Nintendo would expand upon the basic formula of the series and make something even better. This is the first time that I really feel they have delivered on that potential. Breath of the Wild has finally given me the vast living breathing version of Hyrule that I had hoped for as a kid. It dramatically improves on its predecessors in several categories and offers an adventure that rivals the best in gaming.

Not only is this version of Hyrule more than ten times the size of any past version, it is also the most full of life and the most interactive. The sheer freedom of being able to climb any mountain and jump off, soaring over the landscape, hunting any animal, taking unique weapons from every enemy, etc. There are countless open world games these days but very few of those offer close to this level of freedom. There are hundreds of secrets to be uncovered and the fact that you can travel in any direction from the start makes it all the more liberating an experience. The bad swimming and total lack underwater exploration is pretty disappointing though. I did find a few areas of the world (such as Eldin) to be a bit boring but the world is so massive that having some regions be a little stale is forgivable. It's one of the best game worlds I have every experienced.

While it doesn't have the best combat in gaming, the combat is still very fun and due to the dozens of unique items and special abilities I was still finding new things to try after 50+ hours of play. Also, unlike past Zelda games there are actually some really challenging enemies. There were many times in Breath of the Wild that I actually had to run away or avoid enemies altogether. It felt far more believable and far more rewarding to actually have to increase my power, prepare better gear, and plan to take down stronger enemies. On the downside though, the Bosses in this game are mediocre. The main dungeon bosses are all very similar and while the first time I encountered one it was pretty epic the ones that followed felt quite mundane. Nintendo really should have put more effort into making each of the main dungeon bosses more unique, especially considering there are only 4 of them. With that said though, there are quite a few mini-bosses in the open world, not as much variety as I would have liked but enough. The Talus mini-bosses are really cool because you can climb on them, it's just too bad that mechanic wasn't used for more enemies and that added a really cool dimension to combat. Having enemies wield a vast array of different weapons also made the combat quite interesting.

The puzzle dungeons in this game aren't as big as many of the past games in the series but there are way more of them and the variety of puzzles is excellent. With over 100 shrines, four divine beasts, stealth dungeons, and countless environmental puzzles, this game has more puzzle solving content than any other game in the series. Yes, I still missed the large tradition temples of past Zelda games but I wouldn't trade those for these either. Ideally we could have gotten both but honestly that isn't a fault of this game, it's just something that they can hopefully aspire to in the future. I loved the shrines and the divine beasts. This game also has by far the best version of Hyrule castle ever, it's totally non-linear and full of secrets.

Honestly, the biggest weakness of this game is the story but with that said, it isn't a bad story, it just isn't the best in the series and it could have been a lot better. The story is actually a really cool concept, where it fails is it's lack of depth. With that said this was undeniably one of the most complex depictions of Princess Zelda. I still preferred Zelda from Ocarina of Time because I liked the transition of the character from child to adult and the way she guides adult Link with her identity hidden but Breath of the Wild's Zelda is also a pretty good take on the character. My bigger complaint is that aside from Zelda all the other characters are pretty one note. There are plenty of appealing side characters but it would have been nice to see them have more story content.

All in all, this game deserves the praise it gets. Not perfect but a massive step in the right direction.

I do not know how Nintendo did it but they just nailed everything. Want to complete quest lines? Go for it. Want to just wander around collecting and crafting, you can just do that too. Even the combat can be stealthy or direct with whiffs of Dark Souls! There are as many ways as you can think of to accomplish something.
The cooking animation alone, IMO, is worth the price of the game.
This is a review not an article so I will wrap it up by saying that if you like open world exploration games like I do, this game nails every aspect with near perfect design.

The only problem I really have is that the X/Y, A/B buttons are reversed from the Xbox controller which is in my muscle memory and I frequently am hitting the wrong ones. I am sure after another 40 or 50 hrs that will not be a problem (although it will become one on the Xbox).

Why the low score? Several reasons. The first are completely hotfix-able if Nintendo wishes to resolve them.

The Yiga Clan Hideout. You will be forced to play stealthy or die to one-hit enemies. Okay, fine. Spend 20 minutes or so learning how to get to the final boss the first time. Then spend 5-10 minutes doing it again. And that is only if you were lucky enough to save once manually

Then spend 5-10 minutes doing it again. And that is only if you were lucky enough to save once manually as I did. Why? Oh, yeah. Master Kohga has a tendency to despawn if he is hit at the right moment with an arrow. The Yiga Clan Hideout is ridiculous to begin with and we are forced to suffer this insult to injury. Forced stealth with one-hit capable enemies who somehow prevent Fairy or Zora revival is just ridiculous in-and-of itself. Add this mess with the boss to the mix and we have this intolerable circumstance.

Tip for Nintendo: Please fix the boss. And fix the entire encounter while you are at it please. It is beyond maddening.

Weapon durability is horrendous. Weapons rarely last a single fight. Yet somehow your armor is completely unbreakable. I guess we should just swing our armor at the enemies in the game. And if only we could craft weapons from the same materials our amazing unbreakable armor is made from to make weapons.

Tip for Nintendo: Increase weapon durability. Give us a durability status bar. And, give us more options for later weapons what are unbreakable made from the material of our armor which is apparently immune to breaking.

Your horse. Somehow in a land of magic and miracles, your horse must strictly obey the laws of in-game physics. You cannot summon your horse. If your horse is not in range when you whistle it will not come when called. Okay, so, get back to your horse or get to a stable and board and then take your horse. Fine. The annoyance? The annoyance comes with how often you must leave your horse behind. And then, either getting back to the poor beast becomes a chore or starting back, once again, from the nearest stable.

Tip for Nintendo: How about, you just whistle and the horse enters stage left; or behind? It would work just fine.

Dungeons? Trials. Okay 120 trials. 4 divine beast encounters. Sadly all lack the proper dungeon look and feel. I am fine with them. I just wish they had included a handful of solid dungeon content worthy of previous Zelda titles.

Tip for Nintendo: Please do not forget the dungeon content.

Music is atmospheric but overall lacking.

Tip for Nintendo: Bring back more sections with catchy Zelda-themed music.

Finally, the story. Yes, I know, it is Zelda. The excuse is harder to make in 2017 than it would have been in 2002 or 1995 or even 1985. The story is okay. Not bad. Not great. Just okay. This last one has no easy fix so I will simply accept that this is Zelda and that Nintendo is stuck on that front.

Tip for Nintendo: While I am not expecting the Witcher 3 in terms of content or subject matter, try taking the Zelda approach for a more expansive story and not just an expansive game world.

In short, if they fix these issues I will reconsider. Until that point, too many bugs or just plain poorly chosen game design sections to recommend.

I'm really impressed how they got all this stuff to fit into a Wii U disc. And i really like that they don't have a long tutorial of how to do everything, like in other Zelda games. It just puts ju right in the Shrine of Resurrection and let you go anywhere. Which is probably my favorite part about the game. It's not like a giant boulder in the way, so that you need bombs to pass. Everything is free. After the Great Plateau, you can even try to defeat Ganon right away (even though that would be pretty hard). Some things that i don't really like about the game is the bland music. There's like a couple of piano notes played here and there but other than that there's not much music. The dungeon bosses were a little lame as well. Almost all of them are just shooting arrows at them. And the weapons breaking can be annoying. But other than those minor flaws, the game is amazing. A must have game for the Wii U and the Switch. Open world game where you climb towers to unlock parts of the map, get collectibles and solve childishly easy puzzles is nothing I haven't seen before. All of this was however done by Horizon Zero Dawn, but that is a better game by miles.
However I did enjoy alot of aspects, but the cons outweighted the pros. (I was going to give it a 7 but the cancerous fanbase who send death threats to the wonderful Jim Sterling becuase he didn't give it a 10 brought it down. **** you.)

I took my time with this game and finally finished it last night, complete with all shrines and memories. While a great game, its shortcomings are too significant to receive the utmost praise.

Its open world design is a bold step for the series. Hyrule is vast, varied, and filled with little secrets and treasures, but follows industry formula more than ardent fans would have you believe, complete with watchtowers to unlock the map and outposts to clear. The survival elements are substantial and incorporation with your gear impressive, but can also be more hassle than fun when you sometimes spend nearly as much time in the menus as playing live. Speaking of hassles, there's nothing mixed about the weapon 'fragility' system, as it's been coined; it's just a pain for weapons not to last even one big battle, pause midfight to swap gear, discard prized items because there is no proper locker in the game, have to hang up and never use unique weapons if you don't want to lose them, or have no way of even maintaining weapons before they break. Combat is serviceable; there's lots of ways to play around but the meat is simple and getting a handle on your dodges and parries is all you really need.

The puzzles, I think, suffer from quantity over quality. The shrines will keep you busy for hours but are breakable via the physics and the numerous strength trials are painfully repetitive. The koroks all over the world are fun to spot and unearth but end up recycling the same handful of tasks some hundred times each. Shrine quests are good fun but most side missions are extremely unremarkable. Completing all of any of these can eventually become a drag, and with all of these in the game the main 'dungeons' have suffered, being smaller and less memorable than past entries.

Presentation is good but has its rough spots. At one point the visuals can dazzle with beautiful plains, rich color, lovely shading, effects, physics, and art, the next it can grate with inconsistent textures, chugging performance (I've even had 0fps spikes), and bad image quality. Sound is nice, but I've heard better. Still, it's impressive what they've been able to pack into relatively low power hardware.

Finally, there's the storytelling, which has never been Nintendo's strong suit. Most of the story is entirely optional and must be hunted down. That could be a benefit for those who just want to play but create a very fragmented and piecemeal narrative for those interested. What little voice acting there is is mediocre. Characters run the gamut from forgettable to one dimensional to amusing, while a handful rise up to be delightful or even well written. One thing I must credit though is some of the unexpected chuckles that pop up in the dialogue menus, even from our laconic hero. Taken as a whole the story is passable.

I've been critical, but over all, Breath of the Wild is a great game. It's vast and detailed and lots of bang for your buck, I just don't think it's quite worthy of all the perfect scores critics and consumers alike have been tripping over themselves to give it - or of being called the best Zelda game.

P.S.: It's not as hard as some make it out to be, either.

I've played some of their best games from the original Super Mario Bros to Super Metroid to Splatoon; and I can say for certain that they're in fine form. I've had some experience with the Legend of Zelda before, and I loved it, but this takes it to a whole other level. This is probably the most free and non-linear game of all time, or at least very close to it. Rather than make a map and graft paths and story onto it, Nintendo have made a massive map, dispersed story elements and boss fights, and let you loose. The art style is Nintendo through and through, STYLE and BEAUTY over realism: this game nails the open-air feel it set out to capture not by having ultra photo-realistic graphics that imitate the real world to the atomic level, but by conveying the wonder and beauty of the world and creatures through delicious, simple yet complex, visuals and art. The characters are hilarious and relateable, the dialogue is perfect and the voice-acted cutscenes keep the gameplay light and fun and important story moments dramatic and attention-grabbing. Speaking of fun, this is THE most fun game I've ever played. I mostly play games for challenge and story, because they don't focus on fun, only driving you insane with massive challenges and small rewards to keep you coming back. What kept me coming back to BOTW was the FUN, the immense fun. This comes from plentiful mechanics that seek to give and enhance the open feel of the game, without being too realistic and dragging you down. The openness, WOW. If you want to do something one particular crazy way, chances are, you can: there is no limit on height, you can cheat at puzzles, and go wherever you want.
I was hesitant for a long time with scoring this, I'd had such fun, but was worried that it would dwindle and I'd just get used to it. I didn't. I entered a completely new area, extremely hostile and beautiful, full of awesome new characters that had me busting my gut with their ego and ineptitude. The game was fresh again, the variety limitless, the Zelda charm amplified by the new style and risk. I realised that this was the best and most engaging game I'd ever played, and was beyond perfect. Exploration and taking risks were hugely rewarding, and I ended up sacrificing speed and efficiency by not fast-travelling, because the world is so beautiful and exploration is a joy.
My final score for The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The wild is 20/10

First and foremost, this isn't the first Zelda game I've ever played, and prior to this game I loved Wind Waker and Twilight Princess a lot due to its fun dungeons and game play, however ever since the release of Breath of the Wild, both games pale in comparison. The sheer amount of things you can do in breath of the wild is truly gives this game a magical feeling, something the previous Zelda games have failed to give us. The true open world experience gives the players a choice on how and what they can do on their own accord, rather than to be pre-programed to do like in the previous Zelda titles. This in itself is a feat that would create a great game, but Nintendo didn't stop there. They made it so the game has extremely high replay ability, having no two games play out the same.

    TL;DR
It's a wonderful game that you should actually try to play and not hop onto the bandwagon of "wow this is actually **** just cause others are praising it.

I hope this doesn't read like an anti Xbox rant but the draw of this game was so strong that I couldn't wait until the end of the month.

The first Zelda game I played was Ocarina of Time, it amazes me that although I have played hundreds of other games since then, Ocarina sticks out in my mind massively. I remember my excitement at getting new swords and armour as I stayed up late (It was probably like 11:30 lol) on Friday night playing it. I played Majoras Mask aswell but never beat that game. THIS GAME BRINGS ALL DEM MEMORIES BACK. IT IS AMAZING. There is a temple in this game and a soundtrack plays when you go near it and OMG it hit me right in the nostalgberries.

You play Skyrim or Fallout and get that opening first world breath where you can go anywhere you want to. This game does that excellently, the piano score just tops it all off.

I will go back and play all the Zeldas from Majoras mask onwards now that I can play them on the online store. I hope I haven't made a mistake by playing BOTW first but either way I am so happy I made the decision to trade my console. This is one of the best games of all time undoubtedly. It is a console seller. In 6 months, once I have beaten all the Marios and Zeldas I may trade it back again but until then I am loving what Nintendo are offering me and I feel like a dick for not investing in one of these games before. The game is just incredibly fun. It masters old Zelda elements and brings in new and inviting ones.

I don't even use my horse as I love finding dem mushrooms and bokoblins. Do whatever you need to do to play this game, whether it be Switch or Wii U (Don't be a pirating wanker) it is completely worth it.

My favourite game is Fallout due to the freedom, this game gives you just as much if not more. I love it. You will too!

I believe that Nintendo have pretty much set the bar for what an Open World Experience should be like.

Although there are a vast amount of shrines which are mini dungeons I feel that the Divine Beast dungeons should have had more to them, comparing these main dungeons to previous Zelda Games I feel that they are quite empty and didnt really meet my expectation for a main dungeon. For being the games main dungeons I didnt feel much satisfaction in beating them in comparison to other Zelda games, my only other gripe with the game really is having "special" items locked behind amiibo's that you cannot obtain otherwise, Amiibo's making items easier to obtain is one thing but there should still be other (although harder) methods of getting the same items in game. That is the only reason I have given this game a 9/10 (would be 9.5), even so this game is simply a masterpiece.

It was rumoured about a few years ago about an open world zelda game, and when it was finally announced, you can bet that I was one of the many people rejoicing.

This game definitely lives up to its expectation and hype. You see, I'm the kind of person that gets distracted and bored easily. Half-finished games or shows are always left by me, even if I do consider it interesting. So when a game managed to keep me playing for hours, days, weeks, its definitely a 10 for me.

Breathe of the Wild did just that. The puzzles, bosses, enemies were fun and entertaining. It's definitely not dark souls difficulty in term of enemies, nor is the world as big as that of Skyrim, but I felt it was just right.

Many people complain about the easiness of the bosses but i felt the difficulty was just right. People tend to forget Nintendo make family games, not scare-the-kids-and-make-them-rage games. Many people also don't have time nor patience to sit down trying what seems to be more than 10 times on an extremely difficult boss like in Dark Souls.

Next point, the graphics. The graphics are definitely can't compare to that of the Witcher 3, but the texture and graphics in Botw seems to fit those of the Zelda franchise more, giving it more of a fantasy-adventure feel, then a mEdieval feel from the Witcher and Skyrim.

The storyline is also engaging and fun to watch. (My shipper heart bro)

The only few problems I have with it, was that there were moments where the frame-rate drop, usually when it is raining in the game, monsters attacking, and I'm running in the grassy field at that same time. I also wished there was a post-game exploring, instead of going back to the last save before the final boss like almost every other Zelda game.

But, all in all, Breathe of the Wild is an amazing game, that allows not only adults to enjoy playing, but young children like my 9 year-old sister to enjoy as well. The world is huge and beautiful with many hidden suprises at every hidden corner.

Let me start off by saying I bought a Wii U just to play this game. Not a Switch, mostly because I want to play Wii games as well, but I bought one mostly for Zelda: BotW. Was it worth it? Hell yea, it was!

This is honestly the best open world game I've ever played, & I've played a ton of open world games. Hands down, this one is the best one ever made. It's like playing through an actual living breathing world where people & animals interact with eachother, animals will graze in the grass, or take a nap, enemies will hunt boars, deer, & capture wild horses. People get pissed off when you wake them from a good sleep! Friggen Elder Scrolls never did that! A lot of games advertise living breathing worlds, but god damnit, this Zelda actually delivers it! People don't do the same daily routine, either! One day, you'll see someone working a field, the next day they'll stay home with their family, or go hunting, or explore some ruins! Not everyone, but a lot of people actually do this! Some even travel the world, just like you are! You will find people constantly traveling around in certain areas. Not everyone, but there's a lot of people who do. People run to try and get out of the rain, etc.

Enough about that though, the gameplay is where this game is at. The combat system is so well done & satisfying. It's also difficult, not Dark Souls hard, but still decently challenging. Some enemies will one shot you early on, but as you get used to it you will learn the in's & outs of combat & start reflecting lazers back at the death statues that are littered throughout hyrule. And by Death Statues, I mean they will kill you in one hit almost every time.

From what I gather, there are 4 dungeons total (not counting the hundreds of shrines) known as Divine Beasts. Each one is a mechanical animal that you traverse through & these ones house some very unconventional puzzles unlike any Zelda game before it. Trust me, your mind will bend to think of clever ways to tackle some of these puzzles.

This game isn't perfect, however. The game is littered with areas that drop FPS, especially in towns or when climbing trees or when it rains in some areas. The game especially lags in towns while it's raining. Luckily, the FPS isn't too bad (drops to around 20) which is still okay for being in a town since you're probably just running around shopping & stuff. None of these frame drops hindered my enjoyment of the game, either. The game is just that good. Also, the weapons tend to degrade a little to quick for my tastes. There's no shortage of extra weapons in the game, though. By the time you start to run low on weapons, you'll usually start to find one or to very decent replacements or even upgrades. The downside is they're gonna keep on breaking. This includes melee weapons, bows, & shields. Armor doesn't break at least & is upgradeable & customizable with dyes at a shop you'll eventually run into in one of the major towns. Also, the motion control segments are god awful & make me want to break my gamepad in half. **** these segments, Nintendo needs to shop forcing motion controls down our ****ing throats. Seriously, they are god awful.

This game isn't perfect, but gosh darn is it friggin' close to it! Worth buying a Wii U for, that's for sure! If it weren't for the god awful motion control segments, the weapons constantly breaking & the FPS issues, the game would be a 10/10.

This is one of few games I would stress to avoid critic reviews.

The game in actuality is somewhere around a 7 - 9, not a perfect 10 in my opinion. In order for it to be a perfect 10, It would need a few things, including:

    - A better working framerate
    - More dungeons, harder puzzles and main story line
    - More engaging side quests
    - Way harsher difficulty curve ( Although there is the Masterquest/Hard mode coming out for expansion pass owners so this one can be exempt for about 20 bucks and some time)
    - More Items (like the runes, I felt so limited with only the bombs, Magnesis, Stasis and Cryosis.)

I understand the gripe with the music, but as a active music student at a performing arts college I felt the music was very appropriate for the setting. The ambient piano that accompanies you throughout your travels is so soothing, and the themes of the different villages are so underrated. All the music was up to zelda par for me, and I have been listening to the OST's of all the zelda games for years, so there is no bias either. I love the new approach, but I can definitely understand the concern.

The worst problem of this game is the lack of a satisfying main quest. Eight or so years for this!? Four dungeons that I completed within an hour and a final run at Hyrule castle that I also beat within an hour? Compared to ANY of the old zelda games, this is embarrassing. Even the worst received games in the series had so much more story and challenge, taking me weeks to figure out puzzles. The first entry in the game has 9 levels, so even the title with no linear story had so much more content then this one. Other Zelda games were so hard, I would quit them for months or years, only to come back and finish them when I had more patient or tried something new. I find it hard to believe that could happen to anyone in this game, and I am disappointed for that. I beat it in about two weeks, with college finals and a job outside of classes.

Compare that to Majora's Mask, Another experimental title in the series that took me about a month or two to beat. It also had only four temples and a main boss, yet it was so much harder and felt so much more satisfying when I beat the game.

And even if the reason for the lack of main story was for us to explore this "amazing open world" then I need more engaging quests. Not shrines that have me do one basic puzzle and leave. Or fetch quests where I have to bring a boy every weapon I find. Gimme some Skyrim esque quests where it has a story and could be almost considered a main quest as well. Let me join a guild or become Archmage please.

Dont get me wrong though, this game has amazing, very artistic graphics. They are not meant to be crazy high definition. Graphics have never been why we play Nintendo. The characters were quite interesting as well, although I wish I could have seen them more often. Also, Exploration is the best part of this game. The freedom of exploring the world was so entertaining.

All in all, this game is a fun start to a new era of Zelda. Lets just hope the following Zelda games will learn from it's mistakes.

Breath of the Wild can’t be compared to the likes of The Witcher 3 or Skyrim because it’s not trying to be those games -- it’s a Nintendo game -- and series -- all grown up. It has a lot to offer and will keep you engaged for lengthy periods of time. If you’re playing on Switch as you absolutely should be, then you can also Zelda wherever you go. It’s arguably not the best Zelda game, but damn, it might be the most polished, and the most ambitious.

Does it have the best combat system in the world? No. Is it the best looking game out there? No. Does it have the best RPG soundtrack ever? No. Can the game make you feel like you are eight years old again? Hell yes. It certainly had that effect with me. It has been a long time since exploring, fighting, and adventuring has so consistently brought a smile to my face. Breath of the Wild is such a wonderful experience that once you play it, you will likely never look at open world games the same again.
