I've played some of their best games from the original Super Mario Bros to Super Metroid to Splatoon; and I can say for certain that they're in fine form. I've had some experience with the Legend of Zelda before, and I loved it, but this takes it to a whole other level. This is probably the most free and non-linear game of all time, or at least very close to it. Rather than make a map and graft paths and story onto it, Nintendo have made a massive map, dispersed story elements and boss fights, and let you loose. The art style is Nintendo through and through, STYLE and BEAUTY over realism: this game nails the open-air feel it set out to capture not by having ultra photo-realistic graphics that imitate the real world to the atomic level, but by conveying the wonder and beauty of the world and creatures through delicious, simple yet complex, visuals and art. The characters are hilarious and relateable, the dialogue is perfect and the voice-acted cutscenes keep the gameplay light and fun and important story moments dramatic and attention-grabbing. Speaking of fun, this is THE most fun game I've ever played. I mostly play games for challenge and story, because they don't focus on fun, only driving you insane with massive challenges and small rewards to keep you coming back. What kept me coming back to BOTW was the FUN, the immense fun. This comes from plentiful mechanics that seek to give and enhance the open feel of the game, without being too realistic and dragging you down. The openness, WOW. If you want to do something one particular crazy way, chances are, you can: there is no limit on height, you can cheat at puzzles, and go wherever you want.
I was hesitant for a long time with scoring this, I'd had such fun, but was worried that it would dwindle and I'd just get used to it. I didn't. I entered a completely new area, extremely hostile and beautiful, full of awesome new characters that had me busting my gut with their ego and ineptitude. The game was fresh again, the variety limitless, the Zelda charm amplified by the new style and risk. I realised that this was the best and most engaging game I'd ever played, and was beyond perfect. Exploration and taking risks were hugely rewarding, and I ended up sacrificing speed and efficiency by not fast-travelling, because the world is so beautiful and exploration is a joy.
My final score for The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The wild is 20/10

Let me say this first, there needs to be a review system for the reviews on here because there are many reviews lowering the score specifically to lower the score and to be a troll.

Anyway, onto what I came here for. This is my favorite game of all time. Yes there are flaws but that doesn't take too much away from the game play. The frame-rate drops aren't that noticeable but one issue

Anyway, onto what I came here for. This is my favorite game of all time. Yes there are flaws but that doesn't take too much away from the game play.
The frame-rate drops aren't that noticeable but one issue is freezing, it only last like three quarters of a second but can get a bit annoying when in a heated battle.
Weapon durability can be annoying at times but adds this quest almost to find and take weapons from enemies or chests to use against them.
The story is amazing with many compelling characters it makes the story whole. Yes there are parts with mediocre voice acting but there's also really good voice acting like from Rivalli or Urbosa, their voices were done really well and never seemed flat.
I also loved to see the characters that I grew up loving, like Impa playing a semi-large role in the game.
This game deserves every bit of hype it got and is definitely 10/10

Skyward sword to me.... Was **** this makes up for that blasphemous game! It takes everything that is amazing off the very first LoZ.... Were there was no one telling you were to go and you just had a world to explore. That is what BotW does with modernized gaming! It will not hold your hand, it will not tell you how to get this or that. You need to figure it out with your imagination and what you have around you. There are so many way's to go about one puzzle it is awesome!

The world is your playground. No restrictions on where you can go on the map of Hyrule, everything is climbable and there is nothing that will say no you can not go that way. I hope this doesn't read like an anti Xbox rant but the draw of this game was so strong that I couldn't wait until the end of the month.

The first Zelda game I played was Ocarina of Time, it amazes me that although I have played hundreds of other games since then, Ocarina sticks out in my mind massively. I remember my excitement at getting new swords and armour as I stayed up late (It was probably like 11:30 lol) on Friday night playing it. I played Majoras Mask aswell but never beat that game. THIS GAME BRINGS ALL DEM MEMORIES BACK. IT IS AMAZING. There is a temple in this game and a soundtrack plays when you go near it and OMG it hit me right in the nostalgberries.

You play Skyrim or Fallout and get that opening first world breath where you can go anywhere you want to. This game does that excellently, the piano score just tops it all off.

I will go back and play all the Zeldas from Majoras mask onwards now that I can play them on the online store. I hope I haven't made a mistake by playing BOTW first but either way I am so happy I made the decision to trade my console. This is one of the best games of all time undoubtedly. It is a console seller. In 6 months, once I have beaten all the Marios and Zeldas I may trade it back again but until then I am loving what Nintendo are offering me and I feel like a dick for not investing in one of these games before. The game is just incredibly fun. It masters old Zelda elements and brings in new and inviting ones.

I don't even use my horse as I love finding dem mushrooms and bokoblins. Do whatever you need to do to play this game, whether it be Switch or Wii U (Don't be a pirating wanker) it is completely worth it.

My favourite game is Fallout due to the freedom, this game gives you just as much if not more. I love it. You will too!

First and foremost, this isn't the first Zelda game I've ever played, and prior to this game I loved Wind Waker and Twilight Princess a lot due to its fun dungeons and game play, however ever since the release of Breath of the Wild, both games pale in comparison. The sheer amount of things you can do in breath of the wild is truly gives this game a magical feeling, something the previous Zelda games have failed to give us. The true open world experience gives the players a choice on how and what they can do on their own accord, rather than to be pre-programed to do like in the previous Zelda titles. This in itself is a feat that would create a great game, but Nintendo didn't stop there. They made it so the game has extremely high replay ability, having no two games play out the same.

    TL;DR
It's a wonderful game that you should actually try to play and not hop onto the bandwagon of "wow this is actually **** just cause others are praising it.

And he's right. The system of weapons and shields breaking, the different environment (extreme heat, cold, etc.), and the ruthless difficulty of some of the enemies forces players to strategize to a degree that no other Zelda game has. In other words, the game doesn't hold your hand. It gives you what you need to win and tells you, "figure it out or die." That makes the combat challenging, but not impossibly difficult. Nintendo wasn't interested in coddling its fanbase, and the combat shows it.

I'm not going to pretend the story is anything "inspired." It's relatively simple, but the (mostly) great voice acting and the dialogue bring the main characters to life and tell the story in a perfectly adequate way. But the main focus of this game was not meant to be the story, which is obvious by how much effort they put into the open world.

No matter where you are on the map, there is always SOMETHING to do, whether it's fighting an enemy, clearing a shrine, finding a Korok, or shooting pieces off of a flying dragon. The developers ensured that they made use of every bit of that open space, which ensures players are never bored.

Which brings me to my next point. The open world is absolutely gorgeous. The colors are vibrant where they need to be and equally dull when the situation calls for it. The designs of the important characters (Link, Zelda, the Champions, the Great Fairies, etc.) are each unique enough to make them stand out in our minds.

If I did have one gripe about this game, it would be how emotionless Link seems to be in most cases. Awful things are happening all around him, but he hardly seems concerned. And if this were like the other Zelda games, this wouldn't be a problem, but there is full-fledged voice acting in the cut scenes. That makes the emotion of the other characters come out, which, in turn, makes Link's trademark silence stand out a lot more than it normally does. But that's more of a nitpick than anything.

Overall, I haven't been able to find a single thing wrong with this game, so it gets a 10/10 from me. Believe the hype. This game is amazing.

Freedom and exploration are perhaps the best gameplay aspects, without leaving behind the sheer amount of actions possible: cooking, riding horseback, climbing... If not for the trailers showing it to be much better, I might not have gotten the game at all. I got the Wii U version and found the game to be quite good. I had started to grow concerned for the series, but with this amazing game, I no longer feel that way. The open world feels more like the original NES Zelda than any other game in the series, while still being very much its own thing, and this return to the series roots breaks a lot of the conventions that I've had a problem with ever since Ocarina of Time.

Though as someone who enjoys exploration far more than combat, I do feel like the enemies should have far less health than they do. In the original Zelda, fighting a group of blue lynels with the wooden sword was very difficult, but completely possible. Fighting just one with a boko club in this game is simply impossible... But at least the combat difficulty curve isn't based on how patient you can be, like it was from Ocarina of Time through to Skyward Sword, which was a terrible design decision.

The enemies also don't feel very varied, simply because such a large percentage of them are humanoids, which all seem to act pretty similarly. Where are the tektites, leevers, pols voice, & poes? And if you're going to favor humanoids so much, why not a few with play styles that are a bit more different, like the boomerang-favoring goriyas, or the slow-but-tough gibdos and redeads? Thankfully, most combat can pretty much be ignored for those who wish to simply run past it, so I'm not going ding the game on that, but it's a thought to share..

The world to explore is huge without feeling empty like Ocarina of Time's larger areas, or feeling repetitive like most open worlds seem to do. For example, I enjoyed Fallout 3 & New Vegas, but didn't get Fallout 4 simply because I got so tired of staring at a brown screen, and with the same assets everywhere, most places didn't feel unique enough to really remember where what was in relation to one another. Breath of the Wild's regions are colorful and varied, with no areas feeling too samey to one another.

All in all, great job on this. 10/10 from me!

Let me preface this by saying, this was my first foray into Zelda games, so I was previously unaware of the lore. I picked up quickly and did not feel lost in the verbiage of the history. I love open world games, and to me this is the pinnacle of the style.

Most important to me in a game are 4 things: story, music/sound, art style/graphics, gameplay. The game really exceeds on 3 of these fronts and puts forth a solid effort on the 4th (music)

Story: I know after doing research that Zelda games follow a similar story format, but this one was done with a unique twist that I thought was very creative. I loved the mystery behind what happened to Zelda and especially love the Memory quest. This quest unlocks specific memories relevant to the story, while also nudging you into more of an exploratory mode. 10/10

Music/Sound: The music fits very well with the landscape of the game, with vast periods of openness complemented by a more empty score. However, I have always loved LoZ's music (Being a composer and studying the scores) and this score lacks the amount of memorable themes of titles past. It is understandable given the nature of the game, though, and complements the game quite well. Voice acting is wonderful as well, with interesting dialogue for many of the main characters that don't bog you down with tons of verbose lines (Looking at you Witcher 3) Most of the sound effects are wonderful in the game as well, though there could be a little more variation in Link's climbing and attacking sounds. Overall an above average sound package! 8.5/10

Art style/Graphics: I love the art style in this game. Beautifully done in every aspect. The landscapes are what shine the most in this game. Everywhere you look is not only unique to its area, but exquisitely beautiful. Characters have a beautiful style to them as well. Not quite fully cartoon, but definitely not realistic looking. I love the environments, and often spend several minutes admiring the beauty. 10/10

Gameplay: Very smooth for me. I haven't had too many issues with FPS drops, and the new patch should fix any lingering ones. The rune system is very intelligently done with uses not only in the shrines, but throughout the world. Speaking of shrines, I never feel they are too repetitive, and while puzzles usually aren't my favorite thing, I never get frustrated with them! Climbing and paragliding are two amazing features I wish could be available in all future open world games. They make the game feel a lot more accessible and immersive. Not having to jump glitch everywhere is wonderful. I also like the overall immersion of the game. Having to wear warm weather gear or cold weather gear or even swimming/climbing gear, really makes you rethink strategies! Cooking is cool and wields very rewarding results too! Weapon durability is not a problem for me, as it teaches you to strategize what weapons you use and when you use them. If I had any complaints it would be the relatively low amount of variety in monsters (compared to a game like Witcher 3). Overall, I thin the gameplay inhibits players from mindlessly playing the game, which I think is a great thing! 10/10

    Overall: 38.5/40 (96.25)

This game has moved into the top of my favorite games list, through excellent gameplay, graphics, and story/immersion. It is not one of my favorite video game scores, but still very well done! There are so many little things to enjoy in this game that I can't fit, so you will just have to enjoy for yourself! Back to Zelda!!

For example. The world is FAR from empty. The world in Breath of the Wild is MASSIVE, but it's unlikely you'll ever come across an empty wasteland. You can't go 20 steps without finding something whether it be a shrine, an enemy, a hidden treasure, or even an all new side quest to complete. You can hunt for Korak seeds, battle guardians to collect rare materials, or upgrade your clothing and armor in various different ways.

The beautiful stylized graphics really help this vibrant world pop and set itself apart from other open world adventure games. All the enemies have a unique design and are color coded to help determine the difficulty. Red enemies are typically easy while silver variations are difficult but chock full of goodies as a reward for defeating them. You can easily climb up this enemy food chain by defeating them and stealing their weapons and become a powerhouse.

The combat is very fleshed out as well. Bows and arrows, swords, bombs, special abilities gained from taming the divine beasts, and even your shields can be used as weapons to deflect enemy projectiles. The targeting is great and never locks on to enemies you don't want them to. Many enemies have their own unique way of battling them. It's not just charge in and mash the attack button. You'll get killed if you do that!

The amount of variety, content, and detail in this game is incredible. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (as of now) definitely deserves to be game of the year!

If i have to pick up some disadvantage of this game. I would said this game lack of enemies type, i almost feel there is only bokolins and ancient machine in this game.
The FPS is not a big deal for me.

This is my 1st Zelda game, and it really make me become an another Zelda fans.

    Pros:
    Beautiful music score
Sprawling game world rich with content
    Clevar and accessible puzzles
    Functional and fashionable customizable clothing
    Beautiful graphics
Amiibo support (never really used them for anything else)
Endless Easter eggs for the zelda veteran
    Intuitive controls
    Consistent game mechanics
Incredible value (69.99 for 90+ hours of fun, halo 5 only gave me 6)
    Rewards player agency

    Cons:
no touch input for the switch or wii u
No way to dynamically reorganize inventory
    Some frame rate slowdowns
    900 vertical resolution, not 1080
Most of the amiibo you would want to get for it are unavailable or ridiculously rare/expensive.

In just one month and with a full time Job i managed to put well over 135 hours into this game, I'm not even close to being done with the game and i don't want to be because this game is so so good, I'd recommend it to new/old, casual and hard core gamers alike. Best game of the Year already i believe.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A much-needed change from the standard 3D Zelda formula. Arguably the biggest (pun-intended) change from past installations in the Zelda franchise is the massive open-world map: a veritable playground for the curious and adventurous. Virtually any point you see on the map, you can reach. The stamina wheel from Skyward Sword makes a return, though this time it is upgradeable, and link can climb any surface to any heights he has the stamina to reach, which really opens up the door for exploration in an entirely new way.

The magic of Breath of the Wild lies in its insistence in letting the player experiment and figure things out on their own, rather than guiding them down a scripted path for them to follow. Wanna go to Hyrule Castle as soon as you're off the Great Plateau? You can! For starters, the entire world map is obfuscated from the player's view at the beginning of their adventure. You reveal portions of the map by climbing watchtowers and surveying the area around you. I know what you're thinking. "Ugh, yet more towers in an open world game!" and I was right there with you the first time I saw one of these giant glowing orange monoliths. Though, where any other open world game would fill your map with mission objectives and icons once you climb the tower, attempting to force some sort of urgency on the player for plot reasons, Breath of the Wild takes a different approach in simply revealing a portion of the map to the player, nothing else. Any sidequests or treasure or points of interested will have to be marked by the player themselves. In this way, the game is excellent at fostering a desire to explore within the player.

Perhaps the most controversial decision was that to generally eschew the traditional gameplay loop of "explore overworld, complete dungeon, repeat", and it's a decision that I was on the fence about for a long while. Though there are a few traditional "main" dungeons to play through, the majority of your puzzle-solving will be done in shrines, a sort of short-form dungeon with their own respective puzzles. The upside is that any of the shrines or "Dungeons" are able to be played in any order the player chooses, which gives real weight to player choice during the course of the game. You can do as little or as much as you want before taking on the final boss of the game.

I think this is where the playerbase is split. 3D Zelda games to this point have been (for the most part) aggressively linear and scripted, leaving less room for player experimentation and choice. Traditionally, the story only plays out one way, and you must follow that. While some people are looking for this more focused, linear experience, others are rejoicing at the sheer joyfui experimentation that Breath of the Wild so heartily encourages. And while Breath of the Wild does have its problems, they're so few and far between that any frustration I had felt playing the game was always so quickly replaced with the wonder and joy of discovery.

TL;DR: If you love setting the own pace of your adventure and freedom of choice (elder scrolls anyone?), there's a good chance you will have a blast with this game, while if you're looking for a more focused, streamlined and directed experience, you might find yourself bored with nothing to do.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is an absolute joy to play as it's an undeniably rewarding adventure set in a deeply immersive world. Although the experience is weighed down by a few minor problems, the overall journey is one that no gamer will soon forget.

Breath of the Wild can’t be compared to the likes of The Witcher 3 or Skyrim because it’s not trying to be those games -- it’s a Nintendo game -- and series -- all grown up. It has a lot to offer and will keep you engaged for lengthy periods of time. If you’re playing on Switch as you absolutely should be, then you can also Zelda wherever you go. It’s arguably not the best Zelda game, but damn, it might be the most polished, and the most ambitious.

Does it have the best combat system in the world? No. Is it the best looking game out there? No. Does it have the best RPG soundtrack ever? No. Can the game make you feel like you are eight years old again? Hell yes. It certainly had that effect with me. It has been a long time since exploring, fighting, and adventuring has so consistently brought a smile to my face. Breath of the Wild is such a wonderful experience that once you play it, you will likely never look at open world games the same again.
