Mar 1, 2013The Cave is not the best work from Ron Gilbert, but marks its return to form. More than a point'n click, this is a platform game with puzzles that while not sophisticated, reveals highly ingenious structures and problems in which you’ll lose your mental clarity and sharpness.
-
Feb 12, 2013Ron Gilbert and the team over at Double Fine delivered a clever puzzle platformer that will get you hooked in a unique and humorous world.
-
Feb 1, 2013Ultimately, it will be easier for fans of Ron Gilbert's previous works to look past the niggling flaws and appreciate the game, but anyone should be able to enjoy writing and puzzles of this caliber. Lose yourself in the atmosphere, discover the sordid stories of each character, and the game's problems just fade away.

Feb 28, 2013This flawed gem could have been a classic to rival the games that inspired it. Like its characters, it's well intentioned, but ultimately commits too many sins.
-
Feb 7, 2013This game is a decent platform puzzle game for the Wii U. However it's shame that the game doesn't really use the new possibilities from the Wii U.

Mar 9, 2013With The Cave, SEGA and Double Fine have brought the world a very intriguing character-switching puzzle adventure that glows thanks to its superb presentation values and dark humour. Unfortunately, though, there are some gameplay frustrations that mar the experience, which proves to be a crying shame given how potentially great it could have been.
-
Jan 23, 2013Ultimately, The Cave represents a flawed attempt at a brilliant concept. The backtracking and item juggling can make the game's more esoteric puzzle solutions a chore to figure out, but the foreboding atmosphere, layered backstories and branching paths are all solid marks in its favour. The visuals and soundtrack are also great, as is the writing - but presentation isn't everything, and we wish it was actually more fun to play.
-
Feb 5, 2013The Cave isn’t completely without merit, but it is unquestionably a subpar game in more than a few respects, and one of its developer’s weakest outings. It has a great look and an interesting setup, but it just loses too much of its potential to middling mechanics. I wouldn’t recommend spending your fifteen bucks on it.
