    This game has clearly the worst online ever ! A real joke, this is unreal ! Lag, lag and lag due to a prehistoric peer to peer system which implies best connections (japanese) hosting ! I just can't play a single match without getting issues, though I have an excellent fiber connection...see -> my ping in Japan is around 329 ms ! (less than 10 ms in France where I live) Ah ah ah ! SoThis game has clearly the worst online ever ! A real joke, this is unreal ! Lag, lag and lag due to a prehistoric peer to peer system which implies best connections (japanese) hosting !     We got many updates for this game but Nintendo still kids with his customers : no build for a local or European room which would be the strict minimum (after one year) so as to correct this aberration.

    Best option would be real servers, but it will never happens, why ? Because Nintendo just doesn't care !!! 10 billions of cash flow and they are incapable of proposing servers. A quite stingy firm, isn't it ?

    So, on my side, next time I won't care about NX...(as a Nintendo fan).

    Anyway, the online of Splatoon is the stupidest and the most frustrating thing I have ever seen.

    GRAN JUEGO, es uno de los mejores online multiplayer que he jugado en mi vida, red online perfecta, sistema de juego agradable, te picas de inmediato, las partidas nunca son iguales, te llevas un gran sabor de boca cuando sabes que tu equipo ha ganado.     I have a lot of fun with this game! this game have a lot of weapons and clothes to customize your character. Servers generally serve very well you find a matches immediately!. But the trouble is that the maps are not available all the time but that rotate every 4 hours if I'm not mistaken and are not available all the clothes that's a problem because if you want to have certain clothes orI have a lot of fun with this game! this game have a lot of weapons and clothes to customize your character.     The most addicting game I've played in my life. It is cool, maybe a little bit repetitive at times, but its gameplay it's gorgeous. It's a pitty you can only play it with the gamepad.

    I already did a review on Splatoon back in February 16 2016, but because the game is still evolving and already purchase the amiibo. I feel like is worth a revisiting. Is it really worth that 9/10 i gave it in my older review?, let's find out.

    STORY: In Splatoon we get a very simple story. The Octarians (the rivals of the Inklings) have stolen the energie source of Inkcopolis...get it    I already did a review on Splatoon back in February 16 2016, but because the game is still evolving and already purchase the amiibo. I feel like is worth a revisiting. Is it really worth that 9/10 i gave it in my older review?, let's find out.

    STORY: In Splatoon we get a very simple story. The Octarians (the rivals of the Inklings) have stolen the energie source of Inkcopolis...get it back!.

    P.S: This is only if you play story mode.

    PRESENTATION: Splatoon just SCREAMS Japan. And the art style definitely reflects that having some flashy colors and models that really contrast the world that the game provides.

    Performance wise Splatoon is excellent. The smooth 60 fps remain constant throughout 98% of the game, but to do that the game had to be downgraded to 720p, but the antialiasing cleans most of the rough edges.

    And then we have...of course...the SPECTACULAR soundtrack. What make this one stand out is that it's a combination of many different styles like Jpop, Rock and even Dubstep, which are very Japanese like if you could no doubt tell. Many of these songs are composed by this game's fictional group, the Squid Sisters, which are composed by Callie and Marie. Why do i tell you that?, well...they are freaking adorable!.

    GAMEPLAY: Splatoon is Nintendo's take on the third person shooter genre. The main innovation of the game is, of course, turning into a squid (with the ZL button). This mechanic provides a lot of depth to the game, as well as many possibilities of approaching situations, maybe you'll hide in a specific spot to SPLAT! someone to continue painting that area in peace or maybe you will spray paint on the walls to get to a hire area to place a sub weapon or simply paint from a higher place.

    We also have different weapons like a paint bucket, a paint-brush, a rapid-fire gun, a roller, a freakin mini-gun!, and a sniper-rifle. Each one having a specific use that i can't comment on because metacritic's 5000 letter count sucks!.

    So we have 6 different weapons with each one having different variations and slo packing a sub-weapon. This sub weapons are activated with the R trigger and they can range from a barrier, a paint bomb, a sticky paint bomb, grenades and my personal favorite, the paint-sprayer, since you can leave it in any place and while you are covering a certain area, the sprayer will be painting another in a 360° radio.

    Not only that, but each weapon also has a "SUPER WEAPON" that can be activated by pressing the stick, but to use it you need to fill a meter by covering area or by splatting other inklings. But when you manage to do so you can activate a Bazooka, a Torpedo, a bomb rush, a shield, a Kraken transformation, etc.

    Unfortunately the sub and SUPER! weapons are locked with the main one, so in order to get what you want it's completely random, but personally i never had any problem with it.

    Splatoon has to different ways to play. First is the single player, where you fight the evil ontarians, complete missions and fight extremely fun bosses that requiere stragetie and understanding of the mechanics of the game and with the Amiibo you can get even more missions and unlock mini games and gear or simply giving Carrie and Marie more songs and dance moves. But let's be honest, the online mode is the the main focus here, so let's see what modes we have:

    Turf War: You have to cover as much ground as you can possibly can in less than 3 minutes and the team who paints more of the stage wins. This will be the only mode that you will get access to for the first 10 levels, but i don't have any problems since it's very addictive.

    Splat Zones: Here you need to cover a specific area on the map and the team that remains the more in that area, while it's theirs, wins. This mode is extremely fun a chaotic when everyone is in the same place, struggling and fighting over the zone.

    Tower Control: This mode is the very definition of chaos. There's a tower in the middle of the stage and the team who drags the tower to the opposite team's place or the one who makes it the furthest wins

    Rainmaker: There's a statue of a Fish laying around the map and the team who carries it to the opposite team's base wins. One player does have to carry the Rainmaker and while it makes you slow, you can defend yourself with tornadoes of paint, but for the most part you depend on your teammates to protect you.

    Splatfest:. You pick a team of a specific theme like Dogs vs Cats or something. And then you play the other modes and the team that wins the more matches wins the competition. It's extremely fun since it depends on you to make your team win and when Callie and Marie announce the winner you are in the edge of your seat.

    There's some other stuff i forgot to mention like the way that perks are locked to your gear, but i don't find it necessary.

    Overall Splatoon is a fantastic and unique game and a definite must own for any Wii U owner and i still maintain that 9/10 i gave it last time.    … Expand

    With that said, this game is just ok. Sorry but it is just that: ok. I played for about 2 days and I was starting to get bored to infinity already...which is sad because the game is actually pretty good and fun, but there are so many issues with it that I simply couldn't play past day 2.

    For one thing, the single player mode is bad: it's boring, it's completely detached to online mode (which makes sense) and overall rushed just to make those 40 euros (or 60 dollars in america apparently) worth your time. I immediately quitted and went online because hey, that's what this game's for right?

    And it's....just okay, again.

    Now the thing I liked about the game is how the controls are pretty well done - except the retard **** who thought that starting the game with motion control was a good idea: i got stuck for half an hour because I couldn't turn around!. Still I like the controls of it and it's fun to move around as a squid and to shoot your weapons. On that part I have no complains: it works, it's fun, and it's also original.

    But everything else just doesn't work and burns you out damn quick.

    For starters you can play in 2 (TWO) arenas every 4 hours (which I also had to research because I didn't play long enough to see the rotation)...and whoever came up with that was probably high or lobotomized, because it gets repetitive insanely fast. The maps are fine though, don't take me wrong, but 2 maps every 4 hours? Seriously why? Why not just simply allow more? I don't know but they clearly don't care since everyone seems fine with this. I don't.

    Secondly, matches last only 3 minutes and according to the wiki (yes because I couldn't manage to play these matches yet) there are about 3 types: Turf War (color the most of areas) Tower Control (King of the hill essentially) and Rain Maker (A sort of carry the flag). Now I don't have a clear idea of these types of matches because for 2 days straight I only had turf war and due to the bad idea of rotating every 4 hours it can easily becoming repetitive in less than 30 minutes.

    Plus, I wish the matches were longer: sometimes I'm having a lot of fun and having a blast until the timer is running out. Sad thing is, I wait more than 4-5 minutes for finding all players and this can be really annoying, especially when your best matches only last 3 minutes. Maybe in those 2 modes the timer is longer but again, I have no idea at all: in 2 days that I played, for about 3 hours each, I did not play any other mode but Turf War.

    And this simply means that this game is padded to no limit and because of that, I'm very sorry, I'm giving it a 6: for 40 bucks (still full price after a year?) I was expecting more, MUCH more, but considering you can play better fps games overall, and some of them even being free (("cough" TF2 "cough")), I just can't recommend this game fully.

    If you have friends then MAYBE I'll give it a pass, but alone this game gets boring really fast and considering the relatively high price point, I simply cannot recommend it when there are better games around.    … Expand

    It won best shooter/multiplayer game of 2015 for very good reason. Campaign: Mario galaxy with guns and has epic boss battles. Multiplayer: Just insanely addictive. Also with tight excellent gameplay this is a must own game

    splatoon é uma boa experiencia para quem nunca jogou um jogo de tiro, o mesmo é bem divertido sua jogabilidade funciona bem, ótimo modo online, batalhas contra bosses divertidas a campanha é um pouco curta mas eu gostei bastante dela.

The online multiplayer is balanced, and it has great weapons. My only issue is the rotation of maps, which happened every 4 hours. Sometimes, I was caught with stages I disliked.     Sinónimo de originalidad, es una pena que haya nacido en una consola muerta pero después de haber jugado mas de 92 horas puedo decir que a valido mucho la pena. Vale su precio eso si no es perfecto tiene fallos que lo hace imperfectos como pocos mapas y modos. (Importante: lo único realmente bueno del juego es su online)

    Un juego fresco, divertidísimo y con un modo campaña muy entretenido. Los gráficos y la fluidez son excelentes. Gran inovación en el género que se merece todas las ventas que tiene.
    Este juego me encanta y es ideal para jugar en verano y pasar unas cuantas horas entretenido disfrutando cada momento de esta divertida propuesta.

This game is mostly for online gaming, even if it includes a slow but kind of funny story mode, and also a very boring 1vs1 mode for local play (destroying baloons is pretty boring after 5 plays with your friend, with no chance of using custom weapons or outfits)Although it is a very small game,,even it feels as an indie game rather than a AAA, this game is incredibly fun and ejoyable. This game is mostly for online gaming, even if it includes a slow but kind of funny story mode, and also a very boring 1vs1 mode for local play (destroying baloons is pretty boring after 5 plays with your friend, with no chance of using custom weapons or outfits)

    The 4 vs 4 feels right for the size of the scenarios, and 3 minutes is right. If you want to have it more strategic, and more play time (usually), competitive mode becomes a must to play, where you find all the fun on this game. The variety of weapons is HUGE and still increasing over time, and the amount of scenarios finally reached a decent amount by the time I wrote this review. Definitely a game you must get if you own a WiiU, and I hope that this gets a sequel on WiiU (with an online mode that allow two persons in a same console to join a match in split-screen)    … Expand

    -Map design is....Ehhh for the most part. The Pirhana map is my least favorite as it just looks dull. What happened to all those creative things in the singleplayer levels? I understand it would be more of a challenge but Cmon! Do something more than just making us run around 24/7
    -Only one game mode? Why not more? I'm getting sick of playing TURF WAR over and over and over.
    -Character customization is limited(Except for the outfits)
    -I can't communicate with other players WHY? If you're trying to host competitive games then COOPERATION via voice chat is needed! And before you reply with: "Ooooh just use Skype or host a LAN party in your house!" Some people dont have Skype or can't host Lan parties.

    Splatoon is an overhyped, Bare bones game. Really only the singleplayer campaign is actually worth checking out. 5/10......You know you've failed your multiplayer game when the Doodle Jump clone you play in the lobby is more entertaining.    … Expand

I haven't had this much fun in a long time. It is an amazing game. The single-player story is a bit lackluster, though.     The game does not focus on getting kills a whole lot, but instead on inking turf with your weapons.

    I will write a list of things I like/dislike instead of rambling on and on like I was writing a book.

    + The music is great
    + Graphics and visuals are great
    + Gameplay is fun and addicting
    + Very unique and different weapons.
    + Very easy to play, but a bit harder to properly master, making it very fun.
    + Squid transformation gives so many approach options and is fun for sneaking around.
    + So many weapon types like:
    Shooters (basically small machineguns)
    Chargers (Basically chargeable snipers)
    Sloshers (Buckets you use to throw ink, wait what?)
    splatlings (Gatling guns)
    Brushes & Rollers (Melee esque weapons that should be self explainatory)
    + Many unique maps
    + Events called splatfests that happen once in a while
    + Fun singleplayer that teaches you a bit about the multiplayer
    + Really good boss designs

    Now come the negatives I found
    ¨- Map rotation is dumb (basically 2 maps per 2 hours)
    - Not having the ability to leave a lobby if you accidently click continue
    - Having to leave a lobby to switch weapons (not a problem in squad/private matches)
    - Needing the amiibo to get extra arcade minigames for waiting for a lobby.
    - Being punished if you lose connection during ranked (you lose rank points)
    - Having to listen to the squid sisters every time you start the game.

    there are more things, but I won`t write it in this review.
    Despite the negatives, this game gets a 9.6 from me, I really like it, it gets addicting if you keep winning, and trying to rank up in ranked mode can be really frustrating.    … Expand

    Best WiiU game, it was from release date and now it have enforced that condition! Absolute brilliant game in each and every its aspects.

    New, fresh, addictive and perfectly done. 10/10

    It's very rare for a game to surprise as much as Splatoon did. I couldn't understand what all the hype was about from watching videos and almost didn't pick it up...but I owe a Wii U and there wasn't much else being released at the time. I've never regretted it, this is one of the best games that I've ever played and one of the few that is worthy of being called revolutionary.     I can honestly say that splatoon is the most fun I've had with a multiplayer shooter ever, the unique concept works surprisingly well in action and I would say this game is a must have if you own a wii u .Even though I have spent over 200 hours and do not intend to stop anytime soon I do have a few issues with this game which is hindering a perfect 10. These are issues such as lack ofI can honestly say that splatoon is the most fun I've had with a multiplayer shooter ever, the unique concept works surprisingly well in action and I would say this game is a must have if you own a wii u .Even though I have spent over 200 hours and do not intend to stop anytime soon I do have a few issues with this game which is hindering a perfect 10.     Absolutely the most addictive shooter I have ever played, no contest. This game gets it right, it is easy to pick up and play casually and have a fantastic time with, and it has all the right elements of an extremely competitive game for more intense players to also have an absolutely fantastic time with, and that is just the multiplayer.     Splatoon is one of my new favorite games on the Wii U! It has some problems, sure, but the good things definitely outweigh the bad. The responsive controls make the game feel great, and the classic Nintendo charm is here in spades! With fantastic free DLC, I always find a reason to come back to this game, as they have added so many weapons and maps that all feel unique from one another.Splatoon is one of my new favorite games on the Wii U! It has some problems, sure, but the good things definitely outweigh the bad. The responsive controls make the game feel great, and the classic Nintendo charm is here in spades! With fantastic free DLC, I always find a reason to come back to this game, as they have added so many weapons and maps that all feel unique from one another. The single player campaign is short and sweet, with some creative boss fights and inventive level designs, but most importantly this game is undeniably inventive in so many awesome ways! The only real problems I had were with the the online inter-phase being slightly lackluster, mainly because of the map rotation system.     I hate it because Nintendo needs better servers, I've played not more than 20 hours and all because Sever lose conection before the game is finished. I've completed the offline mode with all scrolls and even finished amiibos quest, it took me around 10 hours gaming. Maybe you think I need better internet conection, but hey! When I play Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, I don't lose conection 1 minute after I start playing and I can even use wireless conection, because believe me, I used cable to play Splatoon online but really it doesn't work. The big diference is: when you play MH3U and you lose conection, the game continues, the other players disappear, but you stay playing alone against the Monster, at least it gives you the chance to complete the quest (anyway I don't lose conection very often in MH3U and I played 300 more hours than Splatoon).
    This game needs something to improve the internet conection, it could be a graphic downgrade or even to include more offline modes or a deeper single mode. I think they have to stop giving new stages and work harder to solve the internet problem, because not everyone has good internet conection and it's rubbish when you don't know how the game reacts when you lose conection before buying the game. They can even do that if you lose conection all players pass to be CPU players, the game doesn't stop, you finish the game that already started and also gives chance to level up. But this last it's just fantasy of mine. I

    really hope the find a way to fix that because it's a wonderful game.    … Expand

My only complaint is more of a nitpick, but the single player stuff in the game is very underwhelming as the story mode last around 4 to 6 hours and the local multiplayer I half the time forget about. As the core focus of the game is multiplayer though, it's good to see the devs were able to focus on that main aspect. Multiplayer is also a ton of fun with four modes to play and a ton of maps. The regular battle mode Turf War is short, simple, and can be played whenever. The other three modes Splat Zones, Tower Control, and Rainmaker, can be played in ranked depending on which are chosen. The few problems with multiplayer are a lack of voice chat between friends and the choice to choose which modes and maps you play on. Those are set on a four hour rotation and if you don't get the maps or mode you care for then the only thing to do is wait, which can be annoying. Voice chat not being in the game makes sense since it is meant for children, but talking between friends would make sense as games like Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros Wii U have been able to do this. In the end, with the constant free updates of new weapons and maps to boot, Splatoon is an enjoyable experience just built around pure fun. It is easily one of my favorite games of this year and a must buy if you have a Wii U. And just cause it seems mandatory, TL;DR Splatoon is good. Go play it.… Expand

    Aire nuevo para el genero Shooter. Una apuesta arriesgada desde la casa de Nintendo, que no defrauda.Su unico punto negatico, que desde ya hay que ir olvidando (fecha de este review diciembre/2015), que en su momento no contaba con todo el contenido. Ahora mismo el juego cuenta con una gran cantidad de mapas/armas/trajes. Es un juego que hay que probar.

    Splatoon is one of the Best games for Wii U!, a new FRESH shooter to long running games such as Halo and Call of Duty.

    The Good:
    - The Game has a lot you can do, Single Player, Multplayer, Splatfest, Local Multplayer, customized you're inkling! ;)
    - it has an interesting story mode

    The Bad
    - lack of more options on local multplayer
    - Short Story Mode, but it's pretty good still!

    - new (free!) content added nearly every other week keeps game fresh more than 6 months after release
    - short match length makes for addicting play sessions - "Just one more!"

    A con would be Splatoon's insistence on requiring the player to read all text prompts. Sometimes you just want to jump into a shop or right into game play and not have to mash A to get past a wall of text. It's picky but is in fact a nuisance. The community of splatoon is very unique, very friendly and quirky, and makes the game that much greater. Things like splatfeast and other events splatoon provides to meet other splatoon players and have a fun time, makes the game a very fun community experience. The graphics are very fresh, the designs of the characters are very creative, everything in this game feels and looks so original and unique, you can't help but love it. The gameplay itself is unlike any other game. It's a shooter, just like call of duty or battlefield, but makes it unlike any other. Seriously, who else would of thought to make guns of full of ink, full out territory wars using squirds as soldiers instead of men with rifles. This is a very fun game, and is unlike any other game you've played before and it needs your attention just like many other games on the wii u that go unnoticed… Expand

    When the map pool is changing between the rounds you will get send straight to the splatoon news also.

    Yeah the map pool, 2 maps on normal games, 2 maps on ranked... not much at all, another thing that can be really boring. Well this game doesn't have much maps yet at all, but I think they are pretty active with releasing new weapons.

    Best game this gen. To be honest, that's not saying a lot, playing Super Mario Galaxy today is still better than anything else made this gen, but Splatoon is an excellent game. Love the music, the art style, and the concept.

    They're many weapons from different category (Shooter, Charger, Roller, etc.) you can use, all of which have their advantages and disadvantages. Each weapon comes with a Sub weapon, and a Special weapon, giving out different playing style. Each shot from your weapons, and the sub weapon, consumes ink from your tank, which is ammo. If you're running out of ammo, hide in your ink to recharge. You also have a special meter for your special weapon, and it fills up as you cover turf. These weapons are powerful, and can change the tide of the match.
    You have the option to play as either a Male inkling, or a Female inkling. And there's shops where you an get gear (But you first must reach Level 10). Each gears have special abilities, such as higher defense, faster speed, and things like that. You can unlock even more abilities by playing online more.

    The game's main selling point is its great online mode. There are two modes you can play online: Turf War, and Ranked Battle.

    In Turf War, 2 teams of 4 Inklings must cover as much a turf as possible with their ink before the time runs out. Whichever team covers the most turf wins. You get points by inking turfs and splatting enemies. After the game, you'll get points based on your overall performance, which is need to level up.

    In Ranked Battle, you'll compete in a competitive mode with different games modes. Winning will rise up your rank, while losing lowers it. You also get more points in ranked battle than you do in turf war.

    There are many stages to play on online. The stages are the same for both turf war and ranked battles. Each are completely different, and requires new strategy. The stage selection rotates daily, so you'll be playing different stages each day.

    Perhaps the only real lacking thing in Splatoon is the single player mode. There is a story mode where you must rescue stolen zapfish from a evil octopus-like race. While it can be fun, it's also easy to beat. The only hard part in the final boss.

    Overall, definitely one of the best games on the Wii U. You'll love its online mode.    … Expand

    Silly, quirky, and most importantly, fun. The game is easy to play, and actually makes admirable use of the WiiU's motion controls. It's predominantly online, but does have an acceptable single player mode, if you ever get bored of matchmaking. The game feels unique, it's fun to look at, and fun to play, definitely a must have for the WiiU.

    Almost 150h playing since it comes talk for itself, an incredible, fast and very agile controls set the new style on how to play a shooter (the two stick stile is in the stone age compared to the super agile gyroscope stile...), this title is like heroin made videogame, absolute adictive and tremendous fun, it goes straigh to your throath.

    Splatoon is one of the most unique shooters i have ever played.

    The single player campaign is short but sweet. It will last anywhere from 4-6 hrs long. You play through a couple of stages and fight a boss. It is pretty enjoyable although some stage ideas are repeated. It also has one of the best final bosses of any game ever. The multiplayer is where the bread and butter is at. Another thing that feels natural is the control. The game controls very well and squid mode boosts maneuverability for even greater control.     I was so confident in this game when it was announced and it did not disappoint me! After being burned out on other multiplayer shooters that felt repetitive and monotonous, this was such a breath of fresh air! My only real complaint is that the game is light on single player content, and the local multiplayer lacks meat on the bones.     One of Nintendo's most innovative game in years is Splatoon - a shooter that is hard to describe but impossible to hate. A little light on content initially as this felt rushed out the door to make a release date, free DLC has helped fill in some of the holes. Still doesn't feel like a complete game, but what is here is a lot of fun as long as you have a robust online connection.

    Such a breathe of fresh air. As a fan or Nintendo's, I normally have to resort to PC or PS4 for competitive online fun. This game is so fun! A must have for any Wii U owner, and maybe the tipping point for those who have debated on purchasing a Wii U.

    Possibly the game that defines the Wii-U. Goofy, yet fun, cartoony yet beautiful. Nintendo, you've done it again! Let's break it down, shall we?

    A: Music/Sounds Splatoon has some really nice music in it. Possibly even better than the Legend of Zelda series. Pretty much the society in the game is based around music.     The graphics in this game are actually quite simple, but they are so polished that you can't help but stare. Even the landscape in the game looks better than some modern PS4 games, and the PS4 is more powerful than the Wii-U. The graphics aren't realistic, but they aren't supposed to be. Even the unique patterns of the Ink Splatter really stood out to me in this game.

    C: Gameplay

    The gameplay and controls in this game are actually really well done, and definitely utilises the gamepad. If you are to play Online, you have to cover up as much ground as possible in the time limit. If your team has covered up more ground in the time, you win. Kills do not count, but they are useful as it can prevent the other players from covering up ground. You can shoot ink onto the ground, then actually turn into a Squid to hide from other players, easier transportation, go through girders, and fill up your ink bar. The battling system is easily much more fun than most realistic shooters - and stands out in the spotlight. There's even a huge variety of weapons that have unique stats and abilities, and can really make gameplay change. Even exploring the hub town of Inkopolis is fun, as you can meet suspicious characters and see what other people have been doing via miiverse. Every once in a while, they even have a thing called 'Splatfest'. This is where there are 2 options, and players get to vote between one of the two. For Example: Which is better, Zombies or Ghosts? - This is just one of the many little touches that makes this game worth getting.

    D: Online

    This is where the game truly stands out. The online community for this game is massive, and is thriving no matter what time of the day it is. It is extremely easy to get a match up and running, and you can even play a minigame while you wait for people to join! Pretty much 90% of this game relies on Online, so besides the Story Mode, I can't really think of anything that isn't online. Playing online is extremely fun, but after a couple of matches, it can get a little boring. There aren't too many gamemodes, but I'm sure that with DLC and updates, it can easily be fixed (As they have already started doing, by the way).

    9/10 WITH my Thumbs Up of Approval

    Now that we have broken down pretty much everything of the game (Except for Story, I didn't finish that) I can come to my conclusion. Splatoon is an amazing game that relies pretty much fully on Online. If you aren't able to connect to the internet, the game isn't much to look at besides the story mode. But if you can join Online, this game is possibly the best for the Wii-U. So, my overall rating - the second highest I can possibly offer...

I'll be honest that I did buy this game primarily thinking that I could play local multiplayer with my daughter, but unfortunately I was expecting something this game is not.     Splatoon is the the revolution of the shooter. One of the best game of this generation.
    Splatoon is just too funny to play, and i'm never boring playing this game.
    This is a new gameplay, which i never seen in others games.
    The only disappoint thing about Splatoon is the Single Player, too short and easy, withouth a great story.
    Overall the multiplayer is almost perfect.

It's a slapped on "Shoot more targets than your friend" that makes even Wii Play's "Shoot more targets than your friend" seem like a much better game. Also, the amiibo functionality is a bit shallow. It gives some Super Mario Galaxy comet-like twists to some of the campaign levels. However, the different challenges they present you with is either "Complete level with ___ weapon" or "Beat this in ___ minutes!". The gear is cool, it is not worth $13 for each figure.

    The main problem with Splatoon, however, is just how much of an internet based game this is. What happened to local multiplayer? Sure, the online is a great feature of the game, but when Nintendo eventually takes down the Wii U servers this game is going to be worthless. Having local multiplayer turf war would make this game an endless supply of fun and I would probably give it a 10. It's that much of a factor. I know Nintendo is capable of making it happen, so what gives?

    All of that aside, Splatoon is fantastic. The variety of weapons, maps, and gear are great. The game's main mode, turf war, is the most fun I've had with a shooter since Star Wars Battlefront 2. The integration of miiverse is well done. Anyone with a good internet connection looking for a fresh shooter experience should seriously consider this game. It has one of those dumb ranked systems that other online games have, which I'll never understand why they thought "If your team sucks, your rank goes down!" instead of "If you score a lot of points, then you get a better rank!" was a good idea. However, that is just a minor gripe on an otherwise perfect multiplayer game.

    If this game gets a real local multiplayer mode in the future, you can give Splatoon a 10 for me. Otherwise, Splatoon is a solid 7. Only get it if you like online play.    … Expand

    I heard that this game didn't have much meat to it when it released, so I waited 4 months to buy it. It still doesn't have much meat to it. Until you level up to 10, you can only play 2 different maps for the day. The maps are kind of simplistic, so I got bored with both maps within an hour. I had to wait until the following day for two more maps. I guess these are randomly picked becauseI heard that this game didn't have much meat to it when it released, so I waited 4 months to buy it. It still doesn't have much meat to it. Until you level up to 10, you can only play 2 different maps for the day. The maps are kind of simplistic, so I got bored with both maps within an hour. I had to wait until the following day for two more maps. I guess these are randomly picked because I only got to play one new one and the same one from yesterday. As far as I can tell there is only one game mode for online play, and that is to try to paint more of the map with your color than your opponent can paint with theirs.

    Paint rollers are so strong that two sneaky guys can flip 25% of the map in the last few seconds of the game. They're supposed to be short range weapons but you can sling paint from them almost as far as the automatic rifles shoot.

    Once you start to get matched with higher skilled players it seems like every game is either a boring, crushing loss or a boring, complete victory. 3/5 of the time one team is forced into their spawn and can't leave. This is partly based on team skill, but it's also based on what weapons you picked before you joined. It can be nearly impossible for one team to leave their spawn vs another depending on the weapon matchup - WHICH YOU CAN'T CHANGE WITHOUT LEAVING THE GAME!

    This game got boring really quickly though. Not worth full price, maybe grab it in the sales if you fancy something a little different.

    It's a game that attempts all new mechanics to try and shake up the third-person shooter genre. However, it falls flat because of the low amount of content that it contains. Only a few of the weapons feel effective online and the small amount of content in single player is underwhelming. But if they can improve future iterations, then Nintendo will have a very good and successful franchise.

You can go into Multiplayer straight away or try out the story mode. Very short but fun and gives weapon and gear unlocks. Multiplayer is where this game shines, After the very recent update we have over 10 stages 30 weapons and tonsSplatoon is here and my goodness this game is amazing. Splatfests are another fun event, pick a side ( for example dogs vs cats) and do turf wars in the beautiful spaltoon world at night. The update also increased the level cap and added party matchmaking with up to 4 and private matches up to 8. The weapons feel balanced and the game is overall one of the best games Nintendo has ever made… Expand

Weapons aren't the only things you can buy and upgrade, Hats, Shirts etc all available as well and consistently changing. Almost everything in Splatoon rotates on a 4 hour clock, New Maps, New Cloths etc all are available every 4 hours.This helps to keep the game fresh and new. The world Splatoon takes place in is amazing, It has little details everywhere you notice and makes you feel like your playing in a real world not just a city made to disguise lobby/loading screens. Music in Splaton is great as well, most times I find myself playing my own music but not with this game.     The story mode it's only a simple and funny platform game, but his online it's and addictive shooter and I know nobody who doesn't loved it before play it!!

During this mode of play you can try to eliminate the opposing team by covering them in paint, which sends them back to start. Can play with using the gamepad or a controller. First, the good things: I really dig this game's feel. The aesthetics and music are really varied, ranging from a hip-hop Jet Set"Splatoon" is the first original first-party Nintendo console game since Pikmin, and it's really good! I really enjoyed a lot of things about this game, but with all the good things it has to offer, there are those that frustrate me a good deal as well. First, the good things: I really dig this game's feel. The aesthetics and music are really varied, ranging from a hip-hop Jet Set Radio-esque feel, to a Japanese-inspired feel, to alt. rock; it's really amazing how cultured the game is, without it feeling too random and out-there. The characters are memorable and enjoyable; not one character made me cringe (maybe Shelldon with his constant weapon speak almost every time you visit him, but I can get past that). The single player is one of the greatest things about this game in my opinion; it mixes good platforming and shooter aspects while keeping some familiarity (like visiting a few multiplayer maps) and at the same time making the experience fresh and new. The bosses are really neat, but as everyone else may agree with, the main story mode antagonist, DJ Octavio, definitely takes the cake as probably one of Nintendo's greatest final bosses. My only gripe with story mode is it feels a little too short; if you know what you're doing as you're going through stage after stage and boss after boss, you can easily finish the single player in about an hour and a half to two hours. There's definitely more to be desired there. Now, onto the main attraction, and where most of my beef resides, the multiplayer. While the gameplay is fun and invigorating, you don't get a whole lot of choice when it comes to battling people online. Sure, there are plenty of modes, mostly in Ranked Battle, but they're always on a rotation, and the same goes for the stage select. I really wish they could've taken a page out of Mario Kart 8's book and let the players decide what mode and stage they wanted to go to, and then just leave it up to randomly selecting from that. Instead, you could be playing the same stage multiple times in a row, or the mode might get a little boring the more you keep playing it. It sounds a little contradictory for me to say that, having just said the gameplay's invigorating, but it'd really be nice to get to choose your mode so you're not always playing the same thing, again in terms of Ranked Battle. Turf War is one of the main modes, and that's always fun...until players higher in level than you start pummeling you, which leads me into another thing I want to bring to light: I really wish there was a level range chooser. Let me explain; there should be an option to choose to find players around the world that are in your approximate level range. Back before the big August update the level cap. was at 20, and a lot of the time I'd get stuck with nothing but Level 20s, which led to a lot of losses. I'm not complaining or whining here, and it's not that I suck, but it seems pretty unfair to me. I'd be a Level 12 and get stuck with seven Level 20s; scenarios like this would always happen. If we had a chooser for level range, you could be a Level 19 and play with others around that range instead of, for example, four Level 28s and like three Level 35s, all more experienced than you and those on the opposing side can easily wipe you out. It may be something of a nitpick, but I think this would improve the game tenfold. Another thing I want to bring up is how bland local multiplayer is; you can't play 4v4, just 1v1, and while you can choose your stage, costumes and weapons for your Inklings are mapped to those stages, so again there's not a lot of choice. Also the only mode you can play locally is a balloon-popping game, which is very disappointing. One last thing I want to talk about is just how dependent this game is on online connectivity; yes, it's needed for online multiplayer, duh, but upgrading yourself with costumes and weapons is dependent on that too, which is also disappointing. First off, you can't even get anything if you're playing the game for the first time 'til you're Level 4, and secondly, you need coins to buy things, but you can only win them online. These issues here are why I've rated this game a 7. If these get fixed in another big update, of course I'll give it something higher, but as it stands, "Splatoon" is an excellent, albeit flawed, game. I would still recommend you check it out, but keep these things in mind!… Expand

    Great and addictive game, only hiccups is the map rotation and single player is just average. The weapon selection is really good and the ranked battles r fun but can get frustrating.

    I waited 3 months to review this game because I wanted to see how it evolved and if it still held my attention. I can honestly say that I have put more hours into Splatoon than any game in years. It's charm and easy to play yet difficult to master gameplay makes it quite addicting. If you have a Wii U and don't have this game, you're cheating yourself.     Splatoon is a lot of fun. The colours and graphics are great. The online multiplayer is very good and matches you with players of a similar level. The music is good and gives them game a different feel to other Nintendo games. This is worth getting and kids love to play this game.

    There’s nothing else quite like it, nor the cathartic dopamine jolt to be had when you squid-skim up a paint-smeared quarter pipe, an Inkzooka at the ready, leap over the edge, take aim with your weapon, and reduce a startled opponent to goo.

    We waited a bit before giving a vote to Splatoon, but after three months, the game is full of new weapons, has some awesome new modes, and it's still really, really fun. It's a WiiU killer app, one of those games that are not only extremely original, but so well made they utterly deserve a big and supporting community. If you have a WiiU and want an atypical shooter, this is the game for you.

    Please don’t just look at the score and “meh” Splatoon, because this online shooter is the best thing that happened to Wii U in a long time. It just needs some major updates, because on arrival it’s just 75% of The Game of the Year. [09/2015, p.46]
