Overall this is a somewhat decent game. The combat is pretty good, and this game is very long, but it's very hard. The puzzles and controls can be so confusing at times I just can't figure out how to do anything in this game. Knuckles' climbing is pretty appalling to control, but the rest of the abilities work fine.

It's not as solid as some other Sonic the Hedge hog titles out there

It's not as solid as some other Sonic the Hedge hog titles out there and I must say I think it's because Sega rushes their games. They wouldn't be going bankrupt if they put more time and effort into their games. Just some advice Sega, next time come up with a more original game and put some time into it. They've made some great games in the past, but this is just kinda meh.

I don't think it's very bad, but I don't think it's very good either. I have higher hopes for a sequel.

There's too little platforming sections, too much button-pressing puzzles and everything is so easy and boring. I mean really, a boring Sonic-game. Just play this piece of junk and you'll feel the torpidity. Even music can't help because they're so blank and forgettable.

And the best or worst of all, characters keeps talking "so-cool" one-liner that makes me either facepalm or yell because of their stupidity. Yeah, cheese scriptwriting is okay with Sonic-games and it worked kinda well in 3 previous games but this one is just a bomb. Terrible jokes and the best ones are just mediocre.

Who sre the people which this whole cake is intended for...?! For under 10 year old kids maybe when it comes to difficulty but they will feel the torpidity as well as we olders!

This game from the get-go has frame rate issues and many bugs. It's clear that the game is unpolished. The gamers combat is also very clunky the the animations aren't smooth. The story is also bad, the only good about it is the little humor it brings to the table. Another positive is the length of the game, it's above average but for me it felt like a chore. I would not recommend picking this game up at all, not even a price drop will do justice. Expand

Why the hell are most of the community reviews for this game 10s and 0s? It surely deserves neither.

The story is forgettable, every preexisting character is bastardized and every new character is uninteresting, graphics often look like a PS2 game, music is bland and forgettable, the game plays NOTHING like a sonic game save for a few fleeting speed areas, and the new gameplay is not only very poor-fitting for sonic, but also generally not fun to play. Level design is repetitive and so ar combat segments, Glitches plague the game perhaps not as frequently as 06, but affecting it far more obviously and destructively. This is obviously a game that BRB had little to no interest in making, and the final product shows that. While there are some highlights in the fact that most of the game is at least playable and that controls are generally decent and responsive, the negatives surely outweigh them. However, there are unintentional highlights in how hilarious the glitches often make the game, so there is more enjoyability to be had from the game than intended. As a sonic game, and as a game overall, Sonic Boom gets a 4/10 - if you must have it, wait for the price to go sub-$20 - it won't take long.

I really looked forward to it and I spent tons of time in preparation, even writing out the details of the characters in short stories in order to better immerse myself as them. I knew things were going to be a lot different from the other games so I was a bit worried that it might get complicated, but it seemed to work out pretty well all things considered! The gameplay is pretty fun, but it's the story where this review gets where it was.

I noticed immediately that the four main characters were different than before. Unlike in the past, everyone seemed to have some sort of more rugged or darker backstory than I'd come to expect from the other games. But I didn't mind it. I played as the happy one this time and I wouldn't have worry about it.

So the story starts out with the four characters meeting after being attacked. Of course, the central lead being Leo who is a loser than nobody really respects is accused of having a part in a terrorist attack that his brother, Valorin, was believed to have a huge part in. The other lead character and possible love interest, Nico, seems to had been caught in the mess along with the two lead supports Ava and "John Doe". They successfully battle all the members of Primus Terminus and seeming about to capture Leo's brother, our characters suddenly find themselves sucked into an alternate reality where things have changed slightly. Spooky!

After fighting through the same area (Ugh, repetitive much!?), we once again meet with Leo's brother. However, there is a notable shift in attitude from before as his brother claims to either have no recollection of Leo or does not care about him. After killing him, we are returned to the real world just in time for a train to crash. The main characters seem just about dead right then.

But wait, miracle science has worked to revive them! All for the low price of 20,000,000 giers (their money). A man named Absolon (super lame character) then tells them they must work off their debt in ways they see fit. As well as this, Harkin Macht has told Leo he must track down his brother or else he will be declared a terrorist as well! Wowzers!

So now the main characters must earn money while tracking down the movements of the terrorist group Terminus Prime! Along they way, they meet numerous colorful faces like a creature named Popo and Robot trapped under shipping supplies. Personally, my favorite character is Tat though. But I was left utterly disappointed when the creator seemed reluctant to reveal whether or not Tat was actually a robot. I think he should've taken a bold move and just gone for it regardless of what criticisms he may receive for it.

I remember my favorite line from the game as well. "You're all diamonds", one that was emotionally moving as Leo looked down at his hand in the hospital room while sitting next to Nico. I couldn't help but feel my self tearing up as he said that before Tat used the Aionus shift to blow up the moon and prevent it from crashing down into the earth which would've ended life as we know it.

I tried to like the game more, but in the end I have to give it a solid 4/5. Eight endings and if you get the genocide ending, it ruins the other ones? I'm sorry, but that's far too much pressure to handle. It has annoying minigames such as picking out words in emails and then making sure to send those messages without any way of knowing if you picked the right one until the end of the game. It also has an annoying mechanic where normally there is two choices but you have to stall for time in order for option 3.

After reading comments by the author on what he was planning to do, I was a bit surprised.
    [11/27/15, 3:31:05 PM] Chair-kun William: uh
    [11/27/15, 3:31:09 PM] Chair-kun William: more campaigns
    [11/27/15, 3:31:16 PM] Chair-kun William: maybe a sequel
[11/27/15, 3:31:29 PM] Chair-kun William: my light novel

[11/27/15, 3:31:43 PM] Chair-kun William: most of those were jokes

He seemed so unsure of himself! I couldn't stand it! I'm sorry, but I won't be buying games from EA anymore. I just can't bring myself to trust them anymore if this is the trend they are going to continue on. I mean what the heck, $92 for alternate costumes?! You gotta be kidding. Thanks but no thanks.

Considering the game supposed to have a plot with development in it, I've dropped by original score of 5 to a 3 because it is completely lacking in any character development or personality. None of the four main characters have any internal OR external conflict with the plot of the game, and in no way are they relatable.
The plot never feels like its advancing and its not very appealing

The voice acting is cheesy and unlife-like.

The animations aren't bad, but they're not good by any means.

There are glitches aplenty, not to say that no game is without glitches, but when a game is oozing with almost game breaking glitches every few seconds, there is a definite problem.

The game often feels like its trying to be too many things at once - a platformer, a beat em up, a block puzzle, even an RPG. At certain parts it feels like they're changing between different kinds of camera controllers and player controllers to completely mix up the experience the player is receiving. There are some games that effectively do something like this, there are even some games that can effectively mix together a bunch of genres seamlessly - but this game is no where near being that.

The art, style, and models are the only thing this game has going for it.

RedButton: Next time you're licensed as a 2nd party developer to make a game, please finish it.

When I played Sonic Lost World, although there were many problems in my opinion, there were at least redeeming qualities. This game doesn't have any redeeming qualities.

It's less that the game is broken, and more that it's simply not fun to play. Having Sonic move slow is fine, as long as the platforming works well, but having him go the same speed as everyone else is outrageous.

This game is a nightmare that shouldn't be played at all. Like, by anyone. Even kids. And it's definitely my least favorite game of all time. So how bad is this game? I'm going to break it down for you all.

Now, presentation wise, it isn't very good, but forgivable. The story starts off with a snake monster named Lyric who wants to destroy the enviroment to build his empire upon, and Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy must stop them(and Lyric somehow knows Sonic). Aside from the fact that Lyric knows Sonic somehow, it's a pretty good plot to start off with. Also, the character personalities also changed a bit too. Sonic hasn't changed, but Tails also appears a bit smarter than usually(Okay, a lot). Amy isn't all over Sonic, but still acting like a cutie, and Knuckles changed a lot. He went from an arrogant wanna-be superior to Sonic to a non-brained buff dummy. I'm actually serious. Good traits, but not memorable. The frame rate doesn't even come close to 30. It constantly drops especially in Multiplayer. And the graphics aren't even good. Yes, a Wii U system, which is suppose to have NEXT GEN GRAPHICS has terrible graphics in this game. It makes the Wii U look like a PS2 graphics wise.

Now if you thought THAT was bad, wait until you see the gameplay. It isn't even based off of speed like in other Sonic titles. Even though it has speed sections, the frame rate still gets in the way. Not only that, there is also a COMBAT and PUZZLE function in the game, which are uninspired and bland. The combat has no combos whatsoever, the puzzles are are easy, and there is no challenge. There is no penalty when you die and your ring count is maxed out to 100 rings. And you lose a few rings every hit instead of loosing all of them. So rings are just health replenishers in this game. You can increase it, but you must link this game to Sonic boom: Shattered Crystal a $40 GAME to increase it.

For my verdict, it's possibly the worst Sonic game of all time. The TV Show spin off is good, but definitely not this waste of $50. I got my copy off of the eShop, but there is a reason it only sold 400k+ copies. Because it sucks. And will always.

You're probably thinking I think Sonic will or needs to die all because of this game. Well, I don't. But SEGA may be forced to do just that or go bankrupt if they keep this crap up. All of the bankruptcy threats or loosing money from SEGA I all blame on this game. SEGA, just make an Adventure 3. You really have no option. And if you don't, have fun going bankrupt.

From what I've seen and heard, this game, to sum it all up, SUCKS. Don't get my wrong, I love Sonic games and the series as a whole but this is NOT Sonic. I don't even consider this a real sonic game because it's not apart of the main canon. Thank goodness its not canon or I would flip. Don't blame SEGA on this abomination though, blame Big Red Button. They were the ones who actually developed this piece of garbage. SEGA merely published it. Luckily Sonic's 25th anniversary is coming up and SEGA's been working on the game for at lest 2 years. It's good that they are taking their time. Expand

[Re-edited on November 11th, 2016] Wow boy, has it been two years already? Two years and... wait... no... patches... at... all? Something's definitely wrong. This is a Wii U game, yet Sega treats it like something else. It's probably too late for it to get updates anyways. If you want a better Sonic Boom game, get Fire & Ice for the 3DS. Sega should've made a big patch to fix all the glitches, but you know what, they went for the 'Screw this' line and just continue doing what they're doing for a living. It's not that I'm a fan or a hater of the hedgehog, it's just that Sega needs to step their game of not rushing because this feels like it's rushed. Expand

Big red button made excellent titles, but obviously the hedgehog takes the pie off the cake.

Due to the cartoon coming out soon, the use of an engine that is not supported by the crap U and having to rush out the game made it the most unfinished, unpolished Sonic game ever. Oh btw blame Nintendo and their **** contract, Sega/Big red button should have released the game on

Possibly the worst blotch on Sonic's record. [Feb 2015, p.73]

Simply put, Sonic Boom is one of the worst Sonic games in recent memory: the concept is bland, the design is awful and the execution is incredibly poor.

Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric is a real disappointment for Sonic fans. There is basically nothing positive to say about this game. Sonic deserves much better.
