    If you think Sonic 2006 was bad, then you haven't played sonic boom rise of lyric. Sonic 2006 was glitchy, but it was glitchy in a fun way (mostly) in this game however, the glitchyness just makes you want to bang your head against the wall. Sonic 2006 was a good game (yes I actually said that) , boom, is so bad, it's evil. It's an unpolished mess. Sonic 2006 was glitchy, but it was glitchy in a fun way (mostly) in this game however, the glitchyness just makes you want to bang your head against the wall. Sonic 2006 was a good game (yes I actually said that) , boom, is so bad, it's evil. It's an unpolished mess. It displays some good ideas, like the open world formula, but it just fails abysmally with boring combat and slow gameplay. And why is knuckles so dumb? Like, what happened? At least they put him back to normal in Sonic forces. The story in this game is just damn right awful, it's worse than Sonic lost world's. The fact that there are a few playable characters is cool, but that's one of the very few positives of this game. This game would have been great if they hadn't stripped it down for the Wii U.     This game insulted me. Its first sin is that the characters were redesigned to look more like mutant humans. Secondly, sonic is a platformer, not an adventure game. Then there are the glitches upon glitches upon glitches. Every stage feels the same and the game treats the player as if they are an idiot. It is without a shadow of a doubt, the WORST mainline sonic game.

    Tons of bugs and glitches, low frame rate, the fact that the characters won't shut up and even more in this sorry excuse of a game.

    Play any other Sonic game instead of this one.

    Possibly the worst Sonic game of all time, it's not worth your time. Yes, and all Sonic games from the 10s have certain problems, but in the case of RoL, you shouldn't even pay attention to this.

After the second attempt, it bricked my Wii U. For me, it's complete trash. Even up to that point, the gameplay was stale, repetitive, and just, boring.     It boggles my mind how 100+ people like this game. It's easily one of the worst games I've ever played. The controls are janky, the graphics look like early PS2, story is trash and the game is so acutely unfun. It feels like a LEGO game, starring Sonic the Hedgehog.

    Whoever likes this game is lying, do not, and I mean DO NOT, BUY THIS GODDAMN GAME.

    This sub-franchise in general was only created to satisfy the little kids that liked Sonic '06 and those awful Wii games (except Colors). I gotta admit that this game, along with the TV show made me feel embarassed by being a Sonic fan. Thankfully, Sonic Mania came to clear the damages that this sub-franchise (along with the aforementioned bad games) caused to the Sonic franchise.    … Expand

    It was an interesting project because this game was developed by a person who worked for naughty dog.But this game failed and not because of bugs but because it was boring, if the same sonic adventure was interesting for both small and adults.And this game can only be interesting only to children.

    For the ones confused on why the game is getting the hate that it does, I’ll tell you why. The game is awful anyway you see it. Missing frames, terrible dialogue, it’s not cleverly written in any way, there is no real threat unless you touch water, the glitches and bugs are so incredibly apparent everywhere, sloppy animation, and uninteresting NPCs.     This is the worst game of all time. EVER!! It runs like an old lady with 3 hip replacements, and shouldn't ever be experienced by any human ever. Some say Sonic 06' is the worst, they haven't even played a fraction of this nightmarish experience.

    This game is absolutely awful. The gameplay is bland and boring and pretty much ripped from Sonic Unleashed (Which is a MUCH better game by the way), terrible story and frame rate, and there are a ton of glitches. I'd rather you play Sonic 06, and that game is crap, but at least it's better than THIS.

    Due to the cartoon coming out soon, the use of an engine that is not supported by the crap U and having to rush out the game made it the most unfinished, unpolished Sonic game ever.     Simply put, there are no redeeming qualities in sonic boom. The graphics are poor, the animation is anything but smooth, the framerate hurts your eyes, and the voice acting isn't great either. The music is forgettable as well. At least Sonic '06 had decent music. Do NOT buy this game even at a discount. It's a waste of money and time.

    There have been a lot of bad Sonic games over the years but Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric has to be near the top (or bottom? ) of that list. There is hardly anything redeeming about the game. Wii U owners looking for a Sonic fix would be better served by "Lost World" or just going back to the Wii's "Sonic Colors". Honestly, there is no reason to play this.

I at least got some enjoyment from Sonic 06. Sonic Boom? No. The music is generic, the levels are generic, the game play is generic, it's all just so generic. And don't get me started on the cardboard cutout characters. Sonic isn't too bad (just generic Sonic with no personality), but Tails is a stereotypical nerd, knuckles is a stereotypical dumb brute, and Amy is the stereotypical girl. Then there's Lyric. He is the most boring, generic antagonist I have ever seen. He has no personality whatsoever. If you want a better Sonic game that actually feels like a Sonic game, I highly recommend Sonic Generations or Sonic Colors. This game isn't worth your time or money. It blows my mind that this game was once $60.… Expand

    When I rated sonic 06 I game it a 10 as a joke, but now, play time is over, first of all, the music is extremely bland, but that's not much of a problem because no one will ever shut up, both games have glitches, but at least in sonic boom you have to go out of your way to exploit any glitches, the only good things to come out of this is the cartoon and fire and ice

    I won't lie to you, I only played the free demo, but I think we can all agree that it's bad. If we ignore the unstable frame rate, the game breaking glitches, the awful one-liners and all that stuff, it still is a pretty terrible beat-em-up with sonic plastered all over it

    sonic 06 for ps3 and 360 is better than sonic boom rise of lyric for wii u, do me a favor you better avoid sonic boom rise of lyric for wii u and stick to sonic 06 for ps3 and 360, because sonic 06 got solid 6.75 from game informer and sonic boom rise of lyric gets 4 from game informer.

    I was afraid to try this game, and i ignored my fears. I regretted it.

    Although, i gave it a 3 because i enjoyed the cut scenes and it actually pushed me on to watch the Animated series they made, which is pretty good... but like the cutscenes, in my opinion.

    I'll start with the positives: story isn't as bad as twilight, the redesigns aren't horrible and Amy is less hatable. Keyword: less.

    Now the negatives.

    There are so many bugs and gamebreaking glitches. More than half the game can be skipped, and sometimes you have to restart everything.

    Music is a disgrace to the good music of the franchise.

    Knuckles' personality got screwed over, and is now the worst character in the franchise.

    Shadow's character arc got completely ruined, and is now a generic dark counterpart. But this time, he's a loner who hates friendship and ponies! (Which is why Rogue is not in this game).

    Frame rate. Just- frame rate. that is all.

    Combat is nothing more than button mashing.

    Sonic's arms are now permanently in their werewolf form, because now they're stretchy.

    Puzzles don't work.

    Death does Jack ****

    So called "quips" are intolerable.

    But even if you overlook all of those errors, the main problem is that Sonic can't move fast, which is his trademark feature. There are some fast parts, but even if you overlook the massive drop in quality those are generaly unenjoyable.

    This is like Sonic '06 all over again, but it's even worse. I absolutely despise the redesigns, and there are so many bugs and glitches. I definitely do not recommend that you go out and buy this game for yourself. And if you already have this game, sell it on eBay and give it to someone who really cares about Sonic.

    This is by far my least favourite Sonic game. This is even worse than Sonic 06 and Sonic Free Riders because the combat is atrocious and the most Sonic-like level suffer from glitches the most.

    If you want a better Sonic game for the Wii U, please get Sonic: Lost World instead.

    Alright so to start, I was really siked when I heard this was announced. I really looked forward to it and I spent tons of time in preparation, even writing out the details of the characters in short stories in order to better immerse myself as them. I knew things were going to be a lot different from the other games so I was a bit worried that it might get complicated, but it seemed toAlright so to start, I was really siked when I heard this was announced. I knew things were going to be a lot different from the other games so I was a bit worried that it might get complicated, but it seemed to work out pretty well all things considered! The gameplay is pretty fun, but it's the story where this review gets where it was.

    I noticed immediately that the four main characters were different than before. Unlike in the past, everyone seemed to have some sort of more rugged or darker backstory than I'd come to expect from the other games. But I didn't mind it. I played as the happy one this time and I wouldn't have worry about it.

    So the story starts out with the four characters meeting after being attacked. Of course, the central lead being Leo who is a loser than nobody really respects is accused of having a part in a terrorist attack that his brother, Valorin, was believed to have a huge part in. The other lead character and possible love interest, Nico, seems to had been caught in the mess along with the two lead supports Ava and "John Doe". They successfully battle all the members of Primus Terminus and seeming about to capture Leo's brother, our characters suddenly find themselves sucked into an alternate reality where things have changed slightly. Spooky!

    After fighting through the same area (Ugh, repetitive much!?), we once again meet with Leo's brother. However, there is a notable shift in attitude from before as his brother claims to either have no recollection of Leo or does not care about him. After killing him, we are returned to the real world just in time for a train to crash. The main characters seem just about dead right then.

    But wait, miracle science has worked to revive them! All for the low price of 20,000,000 giers (their money). A man named Absolon (super lame character) then tells them they must work off their debt in ways they see fit. As well as this, Harkin Macht has told Leo he must track down his brother or else he will be declared a terrorist as well! Wowzers!

    So now the main characters must earn money while tracking down the movements of the terrorist group Terminus Prime! Along they way, they meet numerous colorful faces like a creature named Popo and Robot trapped under shipping supplies. Personally, my favorite character is Tat though. But I was left utterly disappointed when the creator seemed reluctant to reveal whether or not Tat was actually a robot. I think he should've taken a bold move and just gone for it regardless of what criticisms he may receive for it.

    I remember my favorite line from the game as well. "You're all diamonds", one that was emotionally moving as Leo looked down at his hand in the hospital room while sitting next to Nico. I couldn't help but feel my self tearing up as he said that before Tat used the Aionus shift to blow up the moon and prevent it from crashing down into the earth which would've ended life as we know it.

    I tried to like the game more, but in the end I have to give it a solid 4/5. Eight endings and if you get the genocide ending, it ruins the other ones? I'm sorry, but that's far too much pressure to handle. It has annoying minigames such as picking out words in emails and then making sure to send those messages without any way of knowing if you picked the right one until the end of the game. It also has an annoying mechanic where normally there is two choices but you have to stall for time in order for option 3.

    After reading comments by the author on what he was planning to do, I was a bit surprised.

    Boom is glitchy and its framerate is choppy, but apart from that, it's not a terrible game. It story is stock. Its design is stock. Its visuals and music are stock. Its characterization is stock. Its combat and running sections and general platforming is stock. And by stock I really do mean stock, as in they picked every rejected or mediocre parts they didn't want to put in other games.

    This is what really needs to be remembered: Boom isn't bad because it's terrible, Boom is bad because it has no soul. This game was shat out as fast as possible with no soul or any kind of creativity or love. Nothing in it has identity, is daring or specifically Sonic, it's just a stock, boring platformer with nothing for itself where the brand Sonic was put on the cover.

    For the love of god, SEGA, if you want to make a Sonic spinoff, which is already stupid since after Generations was great you made Lost World which was already stock, mostly soulless and generally boring, but if you want to make a spinoff while you're already trying to secure a market for your main series, AT LEAST DONT SHOVE THE GAME IN THE HANDS OF SOME DEV WHO CLEARLY COULDNT CARE LESS AND JUST WANTED TO GET IT OVER WITH.

    Another **** on Sonic's legacy, it'll live through it, but for god's sake I really hope SEGA management all commit sudoku, because this game is a disgrace to the fans, a disgrace to kids who might buy it, and a disgrace to Sonic.

    I always tried to be forgiving with Sonic because underneath the ocean of terrible concepts or ideas there was always something of value. Even in 06 for all its atrociousness there was ambition and effort, even if the game was forced out while it was still an alpha because even back then, SEGA was a terrible company that understands nothing. Sorry they patched those... If you need a Sonic game on Wii u, pick up Sonic Lost World. Sonic Lost World isn't great but still more fun than this.

    I played the demo out of curiosity, and had to put it down after 5 or so minutes because it was so awful, the controls are horrible, the combat is clunky, the frame rate is horrible, and the voice acting is worse than all of these thinks combined, on the plus side the music, while it's not good, doesn't make me want to kill myself.

Sonic hasn't changed, but Tails also appears a bit smarter than usually(Okay, a lot). Amy isn't all over Sonic, but still acting like a cutie, and Knuckles changed a lot. He went from an arrogant wanna-be superior to Sonic to a non-brained buff dummy. I'm actually serious. Good traits, but not memorable. The frame rate doesn't even come close to 30. It constantly drops especially in Multiplayer. And the graphics aren't even good. Yes, a Wii U system, which is suppose to have NEXT GEN GRAPHICS has terrible graphics in this game. It makes the Wii U look like a PS2 graphics wise.

    Now if you thought THAT was bad, wait until you see the gameplay. It isn't even based off of speed like in other Sonic titles. Even though it has speed sections, the frame rate still gets in the way. Not only that, there is also a COMBAT and PUZZLE function in the game, which are uninspired and bland. The combat has no combos whatsoever, the puzzles are are easy, and there is no challenge. There is no penalty when you die and your ring count is maxed out to 100 rings. And you lose a few rings every hit instead of loosing all of them. So rings are just health replenishers in this game. You can increase it, but you must link this game to Sonic boom: Shattered Crystal a $40 GAME to increase it.

    For my verdict, it's possibly the worst Sonic game of all time. The TV Show spin off is good, but definitely not this waste of $50. I got my copy off of the eShop, but there is a reason it only sold 400k+ copies. Because it sucks. And will always.

    You're probably thinking I think Sonic will or needs to die all because of this game. Well, I don't. But SEGA may be forced to do just that or go bankrupt if they keep this crap up. All of the bankruptcy threats or loosing money from SEGA I all blame on this game. SEGA, just make an Adventure 3. You really have no option. And if you don't, have fun going bankrupt.    … Expand

The puzzles and controls can be so confusing at times I just can't figure out how to do anything in this game. Knuckles' climbing is pretty appalling to control, but the rest of the abilities work fine.

Ridden with glitches, frame rate issues, horrid character design, lazy gameplay and uninspired combat system. This is the worst Sonic game to date. Even worse than Sonic 2006. Yes, you heard right. WORSE than Sonic 2006. How do you manage to get worse than a game that HAS AN ANIMAL AND A HUMAN IN A ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP???? I didn't even think that was possible, but if Sonic is good at one thing, it proving there's no low you can't sink to if you put your mind to it.     MAN, OH BOY, I can't believe why this game even exists, this game was a complete fire that will from release date 'til forever, Sonic only jogging, glitchy speed sections which only run at 10 FPS (frames per second), And most of all, knuckles infinite jump glitch that got patched out makes the game and the series worst 8th generation game!

    THIS GAME IS WORSE THAN SONIC 06!
    Bad game play, bugs and glitches and frame rate drops. What makes me more angry is that this game is powered by the Cryengine 3 which was used to power Crysis 3. If Crysis 3 looks great with the Cryengine 3 THEN WHY DOES SONIC BOOM ON THE WII U LOOK LIKE A PS2 TITLE

Even if this game wasn't broken, it wouldn't be fun. The gameplay sucks. The graphics look like they're from the GameCube. The music is forgettable. Don't give SEGA your money. Unless you want to see Amy clip through walls while Tails tells you about the bounce pad right in front of you.

    Really poor all around. It feels very unfinished. It feels like the director tried to cram in too many things and got over their heads. "Keep It Simple Stupid" I think fits well here. If they had done that, the current pretty good animation, decent character design, coupled with a more simple game play would have been much better.     Simply put, Sonic Boom is one of the worst Sonic games in recent memory: the concept is bland, the design is awful and the execution is incredibly poor.

    Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric is a real disappointment for Sonic fans. There is basically nothing positive to say about this game. Sonic deserves much better.
