My son and I play this game all the time. He loves to play with the phsyical Skylander toys and then he loves to se them alive on the screen (age 5). As a adult and avid gamer I love the game. It's a pay to play kind of with the different Skylanders but if you can afford it get it. I've spent my money on dumber things.

I got the Wii U version free thanks to a code that came with the Wii starter pack.

The only issue I had was that, among all of the Skylanders games, Trap Team was the most cash-grabber. It was very expensive and finding some characters at a cheap price was difficult as heck.
I give it a 10 because I recently solved this problem and I was able to find the missing characters for my collection at a more decent price :3

Outstanding game!! This might not be the best made game, its not an award winner, not even a huge crowd pleaser, but its MY favourite game of all time. The Skylanders franchise as a whole is very special to me on a personal level, anticipating the next instalments helped me through hardships in life, having a physical figure meant I felt connection to these characters. The Skylanders franchise as a whole is very special to me on a personal level, anticipating the next instalments helped me through hardships in life, having a physical figure meant I felt connection to these characters. For this many characters to all have unique moveset and personalities, its truly admirable. This is my favourite game amongst the whole series, it does have its bugs, but that makes it more unique than all the other games, and the glitches aren't game-breaking, you mostly have to seek them out, creating a very interesting skill gap for speed running. The upgrade chambers add extra depth to the combat system, and swapping skylanders will always require for you to change strategies, so its rewarding to put hours into the game learning about each characters style and when best to use them. The game is just down right fun, I've never played through this with anything less than a smile on my face. The level design is incredibly creative and showcases so much passion and commitment on behalf of the developers. The trap gimmick to bring life to toys after you defeat a villain is very investing and incredible fun. In conclusion, this is no masterpiece. But a game doesn't have to be perfect to be your favourite, and that's exactly the case with Skylanders Trap Team. This is my favourite game of all time, due to the personal connection I feel to it and its characters, the clever and well executed gimmick helps it stand apart from both the Skylanders franchise, as well as gaming in general. The gameplay is fun and the level design is spectacular! Expand

This is a rather average game; it's not really enjoyable, but it's still playable.

The first Skylanders game I ever got and the reason why i spent hundreds on this series, It's pretty decent especially on the higher difficulties, but I have one problem with it, the higher difficulties only increase the attack of enemies drastically (Except for the final boss I think gains new attacks or something, which by the way is my favourite boss in this series) but then again IThe first Skylanders game I ever got and the reason why i spent hundreds on this series, It's pretty decent especially on the higher difficulties, but I have one problem with it, the higher difficulties only increase the attack of enemies drastically (Except for the final boss I think gains new attacks or something, which by the way is my favourite boss in this series) but then again I didn't play the first one so) I would of hoped a bit more would happen, like make attacks faster that'll be cool, Trap masters are pretty cool but a bit overpowered compared to everything else, Who really cares about story in skylander games Though, Nothing that happens really has a reason, it just happens because Kaos is bored and wants to do some evil stuff. And that's all I'm gonna say Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Skylanders is a flawed series. At times, it can be really creative with its game design. No matter how expensive the figures become, I still think the "Toys to Life" concept adds a lot of immersion to the experience. However, at this point of the series. Things become incredibly unbalanced regarding the price of the extra content.

Like past Skyalnders games, you're required to use certain figures in order to unlock side paths within levels in order to obtain all the collectibles. And this game is notorious for being the most unfair with those requirements. Not only do you need a Trap Master and villain of each element in order to find most of the hidden treasure, but you also need four adventure packs to access the final levels of the game. And the final drop of poison? All Skylanders from previous games can access any hidden areas, including the elemental gates. Making the attempt to obtain one hundred percent completion equivalent to a swift kick to the stomach.

Setting all that aside though, there are still a few things I really appreciate about this game. Such as the villain trapping mechanic. I still remember the excitement I felt watching the trailers for the first time. Being able to play as the villains you defeat is a really imaginative idea. It reminds me a bit of what the game "Crash of the Titans" was aiming for. Switching between the hero and villain characters feels really precise. I'm really glad I don't have to go through a long loading screen just to play as the captured villain. It adds a lot of variety to the combat and the switching mechanic even plays a big role in the final battle to add flavor to the clash.

Whenever I control a baddie, it never feels generic. Sure, most of the villains are just basic enemies turned into mini bosses. But what makes each one stand out is that each character is given a set of catchphrases and unique theme music that plays whenever they enter the battle. And the major boss battles against the doom raiders are all fantastic.

I mean "The Gulper" is a joke. He's easier than the Conquer-Tron from Skylanders Giants. But every clash against the head villains is fantastic. The music is energetic, the attack patterns aren't bland, and it just feels so good to hear them taunt you during the entire battle. It really adds satisfaction to the trapping process at the end.

Skylanders' boss fights have always felt hit and miss throughout the series. I mean in Spyro's Adventure, all the bosses are stale jokes. But even though this game has done some abysmal things, there are hints of drastic improvement in key moments throughout the game. It's just a shame to see the gaming cliches ruin most of the experience.

I want to clear all the challenges, but I"ll never be able to afford it. There are just better games to one hundred percent. If you ask me, a game isn't worth total completion, if the gameplay feels miserable. You could enjoy this as a fun multiplayer experience with friends, just bashing enemies, and reacting to the cute moments of the game. But this game was clearly designed for spoiled kids loaded with cash. If you're looking for an astounding beat em' up, pick up Smash Bros instead for the Wii U. This game will only obtain those with nostalgia for the series like myself. Its a blessing and a curse.

This is in my opinion the greatest Skylander game. It's gimmick of trapping villains and using them is just so fun, and the fact that the villains interact with you when your not using them is so cool.

Buying the Skylanders Trap Team Starter Set probably won’t be enough for you. Again and again, you’ll run into times when you wish you had just a little more cash to buy that colored trap, or that Skylander. But more than any Skylanders game before it, Trap Team makes you feel good about your purchases– even if it’s your kid that gets to enjoy them.

Back under the creative control of Toys For Bob, Trap Team delivers an experience with enough depth and variation to warrant a fourth buy-in to new toys and a new gimmick.
