    Pirate's Curse is very much better, but this game still has some really great charm. One section is filled with directionless need for backtracking and shop items, which was pretty poorly designed and frustrating, hence the lower score. I also thought for a game called Risky's Revenge, there was a distinct lack of Risky. Other than that, this was honestly a very good game, especially forPirate's Curse is very much better, but this game still has some really great charm.     This game NAILS everything. Art, characters, gameplay, story, variety, fun powerups, bosses, etc... get it! Forget Guacamelee, this is this best game on this genre.

    The almost total lack of direction in a game filled with backtracking and extended travel, is ultimately the game’s downfall.

    Risky's Revenge - Director's Cut does not stand out as much as its predecessor did, which is no shame as this is a game that features a good balance between exploration of locations and backtracking and Shantae's magic spells and transforming skills are delightful. It could go further on the boss fights and in terms of content but that doesn't stand on its way of being a very enjoyable game for those who like exploring and backtracking in a metroidvania style.

    A clever, charming Metroidvania with some intense platforming bits, Shantae: Risky’s Revenge – Director’s Cut is a must play for fans of the genre.
