A great 2D platforming party game best played locally, Runbow is a good buy for your multiplayer playlist.

At its heart, Runbow is a game to break out during a big gathering, rather than play on your own. Nothing is more fun than hooking up controllers and playing with a whole bunch of your friends for a night, and Runbow offers that in spades, provided you have all the Wii Remotes and attachments at your disposal.

While the inclusion of a 9 person multiplayer is indeed intriguing, there just isn’t enough to Runbow to really make you along want to come back, let alone the 8 other people you can possibly finagle. It’s simplistic jumping on levels for time trials, or it’s overly-chaotic racing around the same platforming levels. It’s not like the WiiU is hurting for good 2D platformers that you can play instead.

All in all, Runbow is a decent party game that offers some laughs and a nice amount of variety, though it is unfortunately not as accomplished as other similar games.

Runbow is a delightfully fun multiplayer experience that brings together racing and platforming and where the gameplay is centered around colour. The execution of its mechanics is laudable and its unlockable content will provide fun sessions for long hours. It does miss out on its single player mode, where the experience feels much lonelier and its online mode could use some more appeal.

It’s not the worst way to spend your time and money, but there are also much better local multiplayer games you could be playing instead.

Ultimately, Runbow disappoints. Bowhemoth is a fun distraction. Single-player is a pretty traditional and unimaginative series of levels that only major platforming fans will maybe enjoy. And online is a hit or miss (mostly miss) collection of modes that is fun for a little while, but falls under the shadow of the Wii U’s insufficient online multiplayer ecosystem.

If you own a WiiU and don't own this game you've made a blunder.

Fantastic platforming game that is playable in both adventure and vs. modes (all modes are playable by 9 players!). Tons of modes. Tons of variety. Great music. Great in Groups. Great Solo. Wonderful unlockable characters! (Shovel Knight FTW!)

Great fun with other players, good platforming, tight controls and I love to play as indie icons as Shovel Knight and Juan from Guacamelee.Great fun with other players, good platforming, tight controls and I love to play as indie icons as Shovel Knight and Juan from Guacamelee.

A real must have. Even more if you use to play with friends (I find this game much better played that way)
