    So basically this game is all the good stuff you liked about Mario when you were a kid, when you were a teen, and now if you're an adult like me, all the stuff you would hope to see. It's basically waay good graphics and gameplay, music and some cute storylines, packed into a promising new console. yeh

    This game does not just remake new super mario bros it revamps it. Sure it may not be perfect but no game is and this game truily feels like the perfect 2d mario game with good challange, gameplay, diffrent modes, wii u multiplayer/touch control, online, and the hd with a classic mario feel.

    This game is the side scrolling Mario game we have wanted at long last. The game is a great single player game as well as an amazing co-op game which is hard to come across! I enjoy playing single player on the wiiu pad nearly as much as on the TV with 3 other players, the Wiiu pad being used for the boost mode is great fun! Weither you are helping or trolling with the wiiu pad it is allThis game is the side scrolling Mario game we have wanted at long last.     Great game that feels more like the old 16 bit counterparts then the less-than-great Wii & DS entries. The added Challenge mode and Boost Rush are SERIOUS FUN and push this game from a high low 9 to a 10. Seriously, finally adding some new, and not gimmicky modes to the Mario Bros formula is a step in the right direction, FINALLY! :)

    This game does not just remake new super mario bros it revamps it. Sure it may not be perfect but no game is and this game truily feels like the perfect 2d mario game with good challange, gameplay, diffrent modes, wii u multiplayer/touch control, online, and the hd with a classic mario feel.

The controls are top-notch; they are tight and responsive, and just the perfect degree of control you would expect from a Mario game. The level design is the best yet in the series. The new squirrel suit (I think that's what it is) is one of the best power-ups I've ever used in a Mario game. You can hold the jump button to glide in the air, and shake the wii remote to gain some extra height. The extra modes are incredible, and add a ton of replay value in this game. Finally, we have a challenge mode where Mario veterans are able do speed runs, coin-collecting runs, etc., and it's just a lot of fun. The game automatically saves your best run so you can watch your triumph at any time. All in all, this game is highly recommended, and one of the best games of the year.… Expand

    After New Super Mario Bros. 2, I was a bit worried that the New Mario franchise had run its course, and that there would be no more innovation in the series. Oh my goodness I was wrong. NSMBU is quite possible the best game in the franchise.     I am giving this game a 10 because I feel it deserves a 10. My wife and I are having an absolute BLAST playing this game. We have had it since launch day and are only half-way through. We have actually been taking the time to try to collect all of the Star Coins and find all the secret levels as we progress, rather than go back after we finish the game.     This game is very entertaining. Nintendo does not disappoint in their latest Mario side scroller. The place where this games shines is in interaction among friends, family, and even complete strangers. Not only is it great fun to have five players sitting on a couch stomping on turtle and mushroom heads, the integration with Miiverse allows user to create images or text (often hilarious)This game is very entertaining.     This is the first new super mario brothers that I don't feel is lacking. It looks beautiful and the gamelplay is as good as ever. But want I like most is the ammount of content. I feel like there is so much to do and the challenge and rush mode is something that keeps bringing me back. I'd be suprised if you had a wii u and didn't have this game.     My past involving 2D Super Mario games hasn't been good. Playing them would always lead me to eventual frustration and abandonment of the game altogether. I liked the games, but I never loved them. I simply wasn't skilled enough, nor patient enough, to continue on and finish the game. That is, until I started playing New Super Mario Bros. U. The New Super Luigi U content destined to come out later this year cannot arrive soon enough, and will effectively double the content of an already-mammoth game. If you're considering picking up a Wii U, and you can't decide which game to choose, pick New Super Mario Bros. U. Even if 2D Mario adventures aren't your cup of tea, you won't be disappointed with the content-cost ratio. Plus the multiplayer is absolutely hilarious.… Expand

    Mario it's Mario!Good gameplay but Mario it's the same from 10 years..Same story(save the princess) and go on..good impact with the new gamepad on wii u..On tv you can see finally Mario in HD (if you have a plasma/led/lcd TV)

    The perfect platformer! You might think i am lying but test it for yourself. The gameplay is tight and accurate as always, There are tons of things to do and the graphics are awesome. I literally spent hours over hours playing this to 100% completion. The formula works again, with style. The multiplayer, while very fun, is not perfect though.     New Super Mario Bros U is the successor of Super Mario World, probably one of the best 2D Mario with Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World. If you have the Wii U and if you love Mario, I think you need to play this game.

    Great game, been a console gamer without a wii, I haven't played a 2D mario game since the snes years. Beautiful game, one of the best 2D platformers out there. Maybe the only modern platformer that really works well. Great job nintendo with the level design. Too bad too many 2D mario games in 2 years, spoiled this game for many.

    I beat it in only 2 days! It is a must play game. This time, it's really challenging. Best game of 2012 in my personal opinion. Better than Assassin's Creed 3.

    The worlds are extremely creative and have never been done before in any medium. When have you've jumped on flying octopus monkeys in cyber space while chasing a yellow carrot? Never! Recorded in the same studio as Mario Galaxy it really boils the tension and mood the story takes as you rescue your lover from an evil satan-like demon and his hellspawn.

    I cannot express it in words... Buy a Wii U and get this game. You will not regret it one bit! It's by far one of the most truly unique games and Mr. iwata himself ensured this... Don't waste your money on a Playstation 4 which has literally no games and just indies and an Xbox One which apparently steals your information. No! You gotta get this game with a Wii U.    … Expand

    I just finished the first player story mode and I have to say -- I am impressed! It was easy to learn, but difficult to master. Some levels I died more than I'd like to admit -- but I always got a chuckle reading other players' postings to miiverse. Overall, I'd give this a 10/10. Next up -- New Super Luigi U!!!

    Wii U sale a la luz con un excelente juego de lanzamiento, este Mario supera al de Wii con mejores niveles, mas creativos, y ver a Mario por primera vez en HD, el OST es muy bueno y parece un Super Mario World HD, es un excelente juego, un Mario por excelencia, hermosos paisajes, mundos, y la batalla final es épica.

    Lo único malo es que para ser un juego de Miyamoto y para Wii U no trae    Wii U sale a la luz con un excelente juego de lanzamiento, este Mario supera al de Wii con mejores niveles, mas creativos, y ver a Mario por primera vez en HD, el OST es muy bueno y parece un Super Mario World HD, es un excelente juego, un Mario por excelencia, hermosos paisajes, mundos, y la batalla final es épica.

    This game is awesome! Best NSMB game of them all! The graphics are amazing! The controls are great. The level designs are all good. This game also introduced someone awesome to the series (Nabbit). New Super Mario Bros U is great to play with friends and you should definitely buy this game!

    La manera en la que inova el juego com 5 jugadores simultaneos en un juego de plataforma me parece estupenda, el uso de comentarios via online me parece mucho mejor que los logros de microsoft, reperesentando un verdadero reto vivo y constante, sin contar las horas y horas de carcajadas en el multijugador, considero a este juego una pieza que no debe faltar en niguna coleccion!!

As any series grows older and older, this tightrope, per se, gets thinner and thinner. With a game as old as Mario, that wire is basicallyOlder series' with such a huge swath of fans have a difficult job. As any series grows older and older, this tightrope, per se, gets thinner and thinner. With a game as old as Mario, that wire is basically a piece of spaghetti (yes, that's an Italian joke and no, I don't care.)
    Knowing this, I tried to divorce myself of prior Marios as I played this game and pretend (as best I could) that it was the first in the series. I knew the mental trick wouldn't work entirely, but perhaps it could give me some fresh perspective on what is a very well executed title.
    The story is simple enough: you are Mario, your friends have been captured, and now you have to recapture the mushroom kingdom level by level in order to rescue them. But nobody plays Mario for the story, so let's talk about the rest of the game:
    Graphics are crisp as Mario makes his HD debut, with bright and inviting colors that will immerse you in the 2D world. The music is vintage and the sound effects are satisfying (the woo hoos, the boink as you stomp an enemy koopa, and the whoosh of the flying suit are all fun. I must say, though, the sound of grabbing a star coin (Ching!) is especially satisfying, as is the huge applause you garner when grabbing all three. I seriously could almost feel the pleasure sensor in my brain trigger as I accomplished this feat.)
    Game play is responsive and fluid with almost zero bugs. Mario has all kinds of cool moves to utilize, too -- the jump, the running jump, the double jump, the wall bounce, the ground and pound, the throw, the slide, various powerup moves -- and you'll need them all to get all the unlockables.
    The unlockables brings me to another great aspect of Mario, which is fluid difficulty. As a long time gamer I love super challenging games, but I do sometimes have to knock games that aren't in some way inviting to a novice. What's great about Mario is that even though it has no adjustable difficulty setting, players can adjust it themselves depending on how they want to clear a level. For instance, beating a level while gaining zero stars is somewhere between easy and medium, beating a level while getting all 3 stars is typically between medium and hard, and beating a level while earning all 3 stars as well as unlocking the secret exit is somewhere between hard and extreme.
    I'd have liked one or two more special suits, though the flying squirrel was a blast. Aside from that I really don't have any other negatives.
    Super Mario U, IMO, is a must own title for Wii U users.    … Expand

    Sparkling Waters, the water world with my    New Super Mario Bros. U is probably the best NSMB game. It is very fun, creative, and super.     It has 4 of the best worlds in any Mario game:
    Sparkling Waters, the water world with my favorite ghost house level, great underwater levels, and neat overworld levels.
    Frosted Glacier, the snow world with great icy levels, and amazing graphics.
    Peach's Castle, no more Bowser's lava world. It's finally the castle that's the final obstacle. This is great and the levels are a joyride. Plus, the story goes from Peach being kidnapped to the castle being invaded and taken over.
    and the OG Soda Jungle, 4 different creative sections with every level having great designs, especially Painted Swampland and Deepsea Ruins.
    The other worlds, Acorn Plains (no longer the Mushroom Kingdom), Layer Cake Desert, Rock Candy Mines, and Meringue Clouds are also great too.
    The Super Acorn and P Acorn are some of the best power ups and the new running up walls feature for the Mini Mushroom is neat as well.

    Some people say this game is too similar to the Wii installment. Well, I played the Wii game after this one (my disc broke) and I disagree. The controls are sharp on the GamePad, Nabbit minigames are excellent, and the challenge mode is why I consider this game the greatest of all time. The controls are sharp on the GamePad, Nabbit minigames are excellent, and the challenge mode is why I consider this game the greatest of all time.     Fun and creative game. Every level utilized mechanics in different ways to make each level seem distinct and new. I find myself replaying this game often with new challenges every time. Like I’ll try speedruns, no power ups, no running, etc. while I do like making up my own challenges, it’s still fun to just play the game how it was intended. The only real use for the gamepad functionality is in multiplayer. You can have the gamepad player place blocks onscreen to jump on which can really save your bacon on some of the more difficult levels. Multiplayer is at it's best when it's two players and one of them is using the gamepad, get more than two together and the game turns into a chaotic, albeit humorous, mess. To play this game with more than two people and actually make some progress you need to communicate, or else game time can turn into fight night. The game packs a lot of content not only do you have the lengthy story mode you also have various challenge modes which will keep you playing after you beat the story mode. The only real issue I have with this game is the amount of recycled bosses, I swear I fought the same boss at least half a dozen times. If your a Mario fan, 2D platformer fan, or just like good, challenging games than you should really consider picking this up.… Expand

    This is the first Mario that makes me want to play all the time since Super Mario 3. Children love it and can help a lot without having to catch up all the time and I can play on my own and truly enjoy it. I am impressed and already glad I bought the Wii U.

Fix these two multiplayer things, vary the mini bosses and add a level editor and this would have been a straight up 10. I give this game a solid 9/10!… Expand

    The level design has much improved over the last NSMB games and the gorgeous and dynamic over world really ties the world together nicely. The main probably with this game is it's uninspired graphics and sub par music. Also if you are unlike myself and don't enjoy chaotic multiplayer with your friends, you may want to avoid the multiplayer aspect of the game

I haven't tried it with the gamepad 5th player but it sounds like a good enough idea. I find this game plays best with 2 players as 4 can make it a pain.     Solid 2D Mario game with a ton of new platforming ideas and conquests. Very nice throwback to Super Mario World and Super Mario 3. Use of Yoshi is done well and the overall content is worth way more than the entry fee. Like the Wii game before, its multi-player is insanely fun.

    Now, I'll give you serious advice. Go and buy this game. This new Mario is a complete must have for any Mario fan, and for anyone else it's still one of the best 2D platformers available on any game system ever.
    I have played on consoles over 15 years now, so you could trust me on this :-)

It has enough original ideas to make in feel fresh, and it has enough of the old concepts to make it fell like a true Mario game. Going back to the challenge aspect, the game is hard. It's not the kind of hard that will make you want to eat a toxic mushroom, but ti's the kind of hard that will make you think, "should I throw the controller on the floor and buy a new system, or should I just try to resist?" And the integration with Miiverse is fantastic. Let's say you die on a level 10 times (which WILL happen). A little prompt will come up asking, "Would you like to post your thoughts about this course to Miiverse," or, "would you like to write a letter to Bowser about this course on Miiverse," or a few other questions. It's nice to say, "Don't do ______ because of ______," or see someone say "DEAR BOWSER: I HATE YOU!!!" That being said, did I see some inappropriate drawings and words? Yes, I did. To summarize, New Super Mario Bros. U is the best game in the "New" series, and is a fantastic game in general. Not only that, but it is one of the best Mario games out there, which is welcome after New Super Mario Bros. 2. However, the game is a safe game, and not one that dares to push the limits of the system or Mario. So, if you're looking for a fun Mario game or a fantastic 2D platforming adventure, PICK THIS GAME UP. However, if you're looking for something that is truly monumental and defines the Wii U and what it can do, or is a Mario game that will be remembered as the holy grail of Mario games for eons to come, you might want to wait for the next 3D Mario game that might come out this year or the year after that.… Expand

    At first I thought the controls were a bit floaty but after an hour of playing I ended up loving it. I wish it was a little harder though. After playing super meat boy I'm used to a nice challenge, but I could see this being a nice way to get kids into platformers. Overall I though the graphics were great and it was a lot of fun.     when the wii u came out i said to myself im not going to spend 60 dollars on a mario game because i already know what to expect..... then i needed something to play with my girlfriend so i spent the 60 dollars. She did not get to play at all i thought this game was absolutely incredible especially in level design. I'm just going to go ahead and say it i believe this game is AS GOOD aswhen the wii u came out i said to myself im not going to spend 60 dollars on a mario game because i already know what to expect..... then i needed something to play with my girlfriend so i spent the 60 dollars. I remember painstakingly making my way through Super Mario Bros on my NES, the frustration, the family/group fun, the regular passing of controllers at every death, the insisting you hit the jump button way before Mario fell to his death. ALL of that is in this game, and more. Multiplayer is awesome. I beat the game with 3 players(myself, my friend, and his wife)Definitely worth getting.     To start with I’d like to point out I’m hardly a 2D Mario expert, Mario 64 was my introduction to the series and my only real experience of 2D Mario games up until recently was the original Gameboy titles, I’m reliably informed those are outliers in the series. I very quickly found out that removing a dimension instantly made me rubbish at a game I’m usually good at and it took me a lot of practice to get good. Once I did however I started having a ball.

    Visually it looks great, things popping out nicely in HD although if I’m going to be picky a little more vibrancy in the tone of 3D World would have been great.

    The overworld is great and I’ve always liked the all levels fit a certain theme in the worlds approach, whether it be jungle, ice, or desert, there’s plenty of variety and I got a nice feeling of excitement on completing each world in anticipation of what the next world would be and how the levels were going to look. The individual levels are brilliantly designed too and all have some sort of level characteristic that isn’t repeated again making each level feel individual and ensuring that things never get repetitive, a rarity in the platformer world.

    The gameplay - like the rest of the game - is polished to perfection with Mario’s mechanics feeling spot on, you feel in control despite his heavily momentum based mechanics. The difficulty curve is great and things get plenty challenging later in the game. The star coins add another level of difficulty for those who are up for the challenge.

    Although I wasn’t compelled to collect all those star coins, doing so certainly adds length to a game that already has plenty of content. The star coins are very challenging at times and I found it too frustrating to go for them all but someone with more skill will likely enjoy the challenge and will be rewarded with some extra levels. I was more inclined to find the secret exits and their associated secret levels which I very much enjoyed. The secret levels were generally pretty short, but a lot of fun.

    I hear that the music is basically recycled from all the previous ‘New Super Mario Bros.’ entries but as this is the first entry in the series I’ve played this didn’t bother me. I liked the music in general, it’s not amazing, but more than adequate although a little more variety would certainly have been welcome. I’m sure if you’ve played all the previous entries things will be starting to get a bit stale on the musical front by now at this point however and it’s a shame Nintendo didn’t put as much effort into the music as they clearly did the rest of the game.

    The ability to play with 4 players is cool too, it’s certainly not the most optimal way to play the game, but a welcome addition nonetheless and I had a lot of fun playing co-op with a friend - even if I was losing lives like nobody’s business.

    Overall this is a perfectly polished 2D Mario title with excellent and varied level design, a great overworld featuring plenty of secret exits, and plenty of content. The only things letting it down are the music, uninspired bosses, and how it doesn’t try much new. These nitpicks aside however it’s a brilliant polishing of a very enjoyable formula.    … Expand

Instead, this is Mario 3 and Mario World combined, creating an amazing and memorable experience that makes this by far my favorite 2d Mario game (and yes I've played through world and 3, which are 2 and 3 respectively). One of the levels in Soda Jungle (styled like Van Gogh's Starry Night) is particularly beautiful.

    The multiplayer from New Super Mario Bros. Wii is back and its as hectic as ever. It still doesn't really fit my definition of fun but I guess if you have nothing else to do, you should try it out. The Flying Squirrel Acorn is the new power-up in this game. It allows you glide and hang onto walls to hide from enemies. It's really unique and I'd like to see it return in a later Mario game.

    Baby Yoshis also make a return. There are three types: bubble, light, and balloon. The bubble one, as you may have guessed, blows bubbles to trap enemies and turn them into coins. The light one can create a path for you in dark underground levels and the balloon one can help you get to higher places. The Baby Yoshis are a great addition to freshen up the gameplay. One of my few problems with Mario U is that when you get to World 6, there's an insane difficulty spike but that's mostly it.

    Overall, New Super Mario Bros. U is the best in the New Super Mario series and besides the lack of improvement in multiplayer and the difficulty spike, it's not anything you're going to want to miss.    … Expand

    If you love 2D mario platformers this is your game! This was the 1st Wii U title I 100%'d, great fun!

    Pros:
    + Clever and imaginative level designs
    + Challenging and rewarding
    + nostalgic

    Nintendo show us they are the kings of 2D platformers. Brilliant level design and excellent visuals made this game a joy to play.

    The platforming can be challenging but with the excellent LUIGI HELP facility after several failed attempts at a level, even younger player can have the sense of progression and achievement.

    I'll give this game a 97%. Nintendo did an excellent job making this game compared to New Super Mario Bros. 2 not being that good of a Mario game in my opinion. This game is more similar to New Super Mario Bros Wii and brought back the Penguin Suit from that game. There are so many unique worlds to go to. What is cool though, is how every level and world has its own unique name for the first time in the series and I do like how the whole 9 world map is all interconnected. I like the different kind of abstract art style of some of the levels in Soda jungle (world 5) as it looks real cool and kind of like your inside an old painting. Nintendo should definitely use that idea again. The multi player mode is classic as it could be a bonding with friends experience or it could cause fights between them. The propeller suit (though it is severely underused in this game as you can only access it in world 9), ice flower and penguin suits return as power ups in this game along side the new Squirrel suit that makes you able to glide for a short time and they are all fun to use. The music is also decent as well. This game is definitely a huge step up from its mediocre predecessor New super Mario bros 2 on the 3ds. The introduction to baby Yoshi's is also a really cool idea and they are all unique and fun to use. The addition of New super Luigi U is also great as it adds difficulty to this relatively easy game and the challenge mode is fun as well.… Expand

    I have very vivid memories of playing this game back in, what, 2013? Amazing game! Not without a few bugs and flaws, of course, but still a great game nonetheless. The story is fine, the gameplay is amazing, and overall it's a hyperload of nostalgia for me. 9.8/10.

    There is very little in this game that I would consider to be "new", nonetheless, it is an expertly crafted experience with truly excellent platforming and level design that only Nintendo can create. Existing fans of the series already know what they are getting into and should be quite content with its offering.

    The best 2D mario yet, but I think 2D mario has had it's day. A lot of the stuff is the same thing we've seen a million times before. However crisps HD graphics and the co-op gameplay involving the gamepad make it a good game worht playing.

    I like this game and the additional features such as the mini games. I am a little spent with the star coins I think they should change that up. Also how come there is no way to tell which flags you have not reached...? If you beat the game without going through every level...you get the point!! No online? This is 2d mario done best, good graphics, good music, memorable set pieces, lousy story (which doesnt really apply to this game, as mario isnt built around a story), but as the first and foremost, fun gameplay. and the gameplay is where it counts. i found the twist of being thrown away and needing to work your way back to the castle to be interesting. I would reccomend this to any mario fan, platforming fan, or wii u owner. A great representation of with whats to come with mario in the near future!… Expand

    This was just a great fun little game to play. The art style and music is top notch. The only reason I didn't score this games higher was the total length and difficulty. This game will only take you about 5-6hrs. to beat and the level difficulty is so easy a 5 year old can play (they did that on purpose so they can).     Its a good game that was very different from the one on 3ds. If it was my money i'd say it is the best of the New Super Mario series with its awesome level design, great world map, and the awesome addition of baby yoshies it is a great game.

    Side scrolling platform fun at its best, grab four of your friends and overcome challenges in multiple worlds each with their own special spin. The story line hasn't changed much from our childhood; Bowser has kidnapped the princess while Mario & Co. are out to save the day. Yoshi makes an appearance along with baby Yoshi

    Very fun game, but it was too short and easy to beat. Fun to do with younger siblings and cousins who really enjoyed it. Overall it was enjoyable and I would recommend it to casual and younger gamers.

    Everyone gets a chance to play and interact and have fun. Really, that’s what Nintendo excels at, getting everyone involved and allowing childish enthusiasm to file down the sharp corners of the vexation of adulthood and life experience. New Super Mario Bros. U does that very thing.

    Yes, the new 2D adventure is not a demonstration of Wii U's potential, but it's extremely competent as a plataformer, adding some elements that probably will accompany the series in the future and making, though perhaps unconsciously with its final boss, the eyes of players sparkle and give us a taste of what to expect of Mario in its next tridimensional adventure.
