    Keep in mind this is a Dynasty Warriors game and therefore reviewed by someone who like such games.

    The game makes no qualms that it's a Zelda fanservice game placed on top of a Dynasty Warriors engine. The good news is, while Dynasty Warriors 8 made great leaps and bounds above the previous games in the series, this one takes even better steps in the right direction.     The good news is, while Dynasty Warriors 8 made great leaps and bounds above the previous games in the series, this one takes even better steps in the right direction. Each character his his or her own unique move set, unlockables, and story. Unlike some of the DW games, this isn't so where they all have the same move set.

    You also get the ability to play Ganon and other baddies that isn't a Smash bros game!

    Now yes, you have to keep in mind, it is STILL a DW game... the enemies will not be smart, there will be dozens of them, and you will kill them over and over again. You also have to unlock characters by doing what was previously mentioned.

    DW fans (like me) will love it. Zelda fans, will probably hate it.

    A fantastic Zelda game - it's the combat I always wanted in a Zelda game! Just don't come expecting a traditional dungeon/puzzle game and I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Well done Nintendo!

    So here's the deal. I've never played a dynasty warriors game, and was anxious about whether or not it would ruin the Zelda universe. I quickly found it was quite the opposite! This game is a ton of fun. Nonstop action that just keeps getting more fun as the stakes raise. However, I highly recommend playing this game on the hard difficulty as the normal difficulty is simply to easy. It isSo here's the deal. It is rare for games to suck in as many hours as this one has without me even knowing it. There are only two complaints I have about this game that keep it from getting a perfect ten. 1. A catalog that explain each combo fo reach character would be nice, as some are a little confusing as to what their effects are. Second, the co-op framerate is pretty spotty at times. And while I appreciate trying to create a game without splitscreen, the game pad just doesnt have a good enough screen to handle the high intensity action at times. But it does the job. Just barely. Split screen would have made the game more enjoyable. Other than that, this game is the most fun I've had on the Wii U sense Mario Kart, but in a totally different sense because it is a ton of fun to play alone. Get this game and try your chops at being an unstoppable force for the good of Hyrule!… Expand

    Knowing what it was going in, I am definitely happy with my purchase. It was a good thing that the game was never advertised as Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Warriors, but just Hyrule Warriors with plenty of videos showcasing exactly what the game was for those of us who noticed it.

    And for what it was and what I expected, it does its job perfectly well. Great music, great nostalgia and    Knowing what it was going in, I am definitely happy with my purchase.     And for what it was and what I expected, it does its job perfectly well. Great music, great nostalgia and fanservice (there's something very fulfilling to run around as all these known characters from the series and play with them for the first time), and just a generally "ok" story in Legend Mode to keep you engaged for ten or so hours until you hit the almost intimidating amounts of content buried away in Adventure Mode.

    If nothing else, the overwhelming amount of content in the base game (even more coming in DLC later this and next year) is arguably worthy of purchase as it just gives you a lot of bang for your buck. Of course, there's the obvious possibility of getting bored but, at least for me, the wide array of characters who all play distinctly from one another, really lets the game keep its legs of interest for longer.    … Expand

However, the sheer wealth of content (with more on the way with DLC claiming to have entire new adventure maps for Adventure Mode) keeps the game novel even if the gameplay is not. This is fan service as it should be done. Watching Ganondorf open up a chest and pull out a heart piece feels so right while being so wrong. It's brilliant.

    Sadly, the game is not perfect. The rarity of certain items needed to craft the rarer badges does not serve as a solution to repetition, and it can cause the game to drag on and on. You could just play it through once and be done with it, but the completionist is punished with potentially days of grinding. This is a problem. The option should exist to buy items to speed up finishing certain badges. At least that way, if you repeat a level and the boss does not drop the gold-tier item as needed, you can take the money you made from the level and buy it.

    This game is the best hack and slash I've played and it is worth picking up if you already own a Wii U. The combos are surprisingly satisfying to execute and the customization options are endless.

    To really enjoy this game you'll need to be a Zelda fan that also enjoys the hack and slash games like Dynasty Warriors.     Take a mixing bowl an put in Zelda, Diablo and Dungeon Defenders. Stir it all up and you will get Hyrule Warriors!

    To be honest, I haven't played any of the Dynasty Warriors saga till today and maybe therefore this game looks so fresh to me. I love it and it's two player function. Maybe not a 10 but to compensate all haters I'll can not rate it objective.

About a week or so ago, Polygon reviewed the game with a 5.5 score, so that hurt my expectations so much more than before. I was pretty much going to avoid the game, so I wouldn't make a purchase I would regret. But. After I had already dismissed the game, after seeingI'm going to be BRUTALLY HONEST, I was in no way excited for this game since its announcement back in December of 2013. I was pretty much going to avoid the game, so I wouldn't make a purchase I would regret. But. After I had already dismissed the game, after seeing trailer of gameplay, story, etc. I decided to buy it, because it was staring me in the eye at the store. (I really bought it because I needed something to play over the weekend) As soon as I got home, I played it. And. I. LOVED IT! (Keep in mind that this was the first Musuo game I had ever played, and I came in with NO knowledge of this series' gameplay/story) First of all, the game looks "Alright". Not AMAZING, but not distracting either. Second, the gameplay looks boring and EXTREMELY repetitive in trailers, but you HAVE to play to understand how the gameplay feels. I found myself WANTING to capture all of the keeps and outposts to see what would happen (keep in mind that I'm not the biggest fan of repetitive games).
    The bosses are okay, most of the big bosses don't resemble their official Zelda counterparts, and they are relatively easy (unless your on the hardest mode in the game, in which you mine as well be trying to cut a diamond with bubble wrap). There are around 15 main story missions in this game, each of which can last anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour. (only around 9 of them aren't used more than once). Adventure Mode is another mode in this game besides Story Mode, and it is really nice. It is fleshed out nicely, and can add a huge amount of content for completionists out there. There is also Free Mode which allows you to play each level with any unlocked character, and is more multiplayer friendly. (Speaking of multiplayer, this game's multiplayer, honestly, is just "okay". It lags in multiplayer mode, and the second/first player is pretty much forced to use the gamepad as a second screen. Also, one thing, IT NEEDED ONLINE MULTIPLAYERRRR... imagine this game with a mode where you could play AGAINST people in an online match where you had ACTUAL smart REAL people with powerful, leveled characters. That would have been awesome!) There is also Challenge Mode, but it feels more like a complete afterthought, to be honest. I played the first level of it, and it felt very "meh". Last but not least, there is the Bazaar and the Gallery. The Bazaar lets you craft badges to up your defensive, attack, and assist bonuses; level up your characters; create potions; and combine weapons without abilities with weapons that do. The Gallery is where Gold Skulltulas and illustrations come in. Collecting Gold Skulltulas in each level unlocks a new illustration piece, and after enough, it upgrades the Bazaar. (Verdict:) I was expecting a low class, repetitive beat-em-up/hack-n-slash game, but what I got was a fun experience that I can play for a long time. 9/10 :D    … Expand

    Having never played a dynasty warriors game, I expected to love all the zelda content this game had to offer but not the gameplay. I was pleasantly surprised, as I came to love both. Hyrule Warriors does justice to the Zelda franchise while keeping the over-the-top action of Dynasty Warriors, and the result is fantastic.

I like the change up to a hack and slash genre of gaming for the Zelda series, but also keeps the factors of the traditional RPG feel. On top of that, there are some nostalgic factors from previous games in the Zelda series that Zelda fans will recognize, such as the moon fromAn awesome game that combines both the elements of a Dynasty Warriors game and the Legend of Zelda series. I like the change up to a hack and slash genre of gaming for the Zelda series, but also keeps the factors of the traditional RPG feel. On top of that, there are some nostalgic factors from previous games in the Zelda series that Zelda fans will recognize, such as the moon from Majora's Mask reappearing (and still just as creepy), Midna, the Twilight Princess makes a return, and the adventure mode gives you back the factors of the very first Legend of Zelda game from the NES. Also, you don't have to play as just Link throughout the game. You have the option to play as several characters, like Impa, Sheik, Midna, Princess Ruto, Fi, or even Zelda and Ganondorf. As for flaws in the game, the only thing I can think of is that there is no one-line multiplayer option, which I don't think is a huge deal. In conclusion, great game! I highly suggest it. The Wii U finally has a list of some big titles coming out, and Hyrule Warriors is the game that kicks them all off!… Expand

    A very exciting game, a must play for Zelda fans, you wouldn't be disappointed, the music is really awesome, and the history is exciting as well. You will be remembering all the past games and the adventures, the playable characters with they interchangeable costumes are the cherry on the top.

The beat-em up action is fun and not too repetitive with the addition of various enemies to fight and also with a wide variety of characters to choose from. Anyone playing will easily be able to find a character that suits their play style with more to come in the form of downloadable content. This helps give the game a Zelda feel along with the cast of characters, the adventure mode map, and even some simple things the one may not notice such as Level 2 and 3 weapons being items from previous Zelda titles. The game is very addicitng and is hard to put down. It's even more fun with a friend. Talking about multiplayer, Hyrule Warriors uses the Wii U gamepad in an ingenious way, making player one play the game on the Gamepad while player 2 gets the entire television. By elimating the need for splitsceen, players have more room to look at their surrondings and will nott get distracted as easily by another player's screen. The graphics are stunning in 1080p espically with the special effects from certain moves. Finally, the background music is composed excellently making any player get ready for the action to come.… Expand

    Its even better than i expected graphics are Amazing, music is great, Gameplay is fanatastic and the DLC coming looks epic. Story mode is great a little short through. Adventure mode is fun and is where the game is at. The WII-U has hit its stride and will only get better as time goes on so jump on the bandwagon and enjoy the ride!

Now not all enemies are this bad but enough to make you question the AI, You can change the difficulty but that raises it for everything and could make the whole game to difficult.
    All That aside it's a extremely fun and addictive game with 2 player Co-Op and lots of Zelda Characters to play as and upgrade. The amount of content in the game is also impressive, this isn't a game you will finish in one or two sittings.
    If you loved the Dynasty Warriors games or your a Zelda fan who likes "Hack N Slash" button mash games you will enjoy this game, If you are not one of those 2 chances are you will get bored of this after a few plays.    … Expand

    The game is not perfect, but it is so much fun (both alone and with friends). The music is amazing, and the visuals are stunning. If you own a Wii U, it is definitely worth a buy :D

    This game is amazing! I have been a long time fan of the dynasty warriors and Zelda series, so I knew I would like this game from the start. The sheer amount of things to do in this game (specifically how Adventure mode is set up) astounds me. I plan on getting everything unlocked on every character.... I want to 100% this!     For those who are giving it a 0 and whining like kids in school when they don't get what they wanted at the cafeteria all I have to say is either those are people trying to offset the rating because they either don't own a wiiu, is a gaming elitist that always says the games before are better or maybe they are just upset that its not a "true" zelda game.

    Lets be honest here (and obvious). I'm going to say that this in no way is a "true" zelda game, its about as true of a zelda game as Mario Kart is a "true" mario game (I love mario kart 8 by the way).

    They tried to make a zelda spinoff a while back on wii if you remember and it was terrible, but however I will say they did a great job with this title. People always want to rag on nintendo for their games whether its the fact there's not many mature games out there to the fact that there's hardly any games on the console. Nintendo in my opinion has always done a great job with making good quality games, they never rush them and will delay them if they feel the game is not complete unlike some companies I won't name that rush their games and let the patches do the rest of the work and take the bits and pieces of the unfinished game on the shelf game and sell them as $20-$50 Dlc packs.

    Nintendo did however start late with reaching online and HD gameplay and is still lagging behind in the Online world, though I would like to add they always have something up their sleeve and as of now they have been picking up their pace despite the long road ahead. That of which I give respect to. The games out on Wii U lately have me more intrigued to play than the other consoles out so to me that says a lot coming from a man who stopped playing wii to only play on his xbox 360.

    But today this isn't truly about the console debate and the number of games any console makes. Reviews on here should be for the purpose of this game and to inform other gamers whether they should play it or not.

    If you love mindless hack n slash violent games (like dynasty warriors) and zelda games then you will love it (I already know i'm not the first to say this).

    Upon playing this game I will say the graphics are crisp and the soundtrack is immersive. The soundtrack ranges from epic musicals to almost a heavy metal sound which to those who love metal and the LoZ games this will make you smile and hack away even more at enemies.

    This game is a nostalgic gem for those who are looking to play something before ZeldaU comes out. The combat is fun... In some cases yes you could button mash your way through or you could try different combos out to see what violent effect you get. I do enjoy the combat a lot. After playing Dark souls 2 its nice to kick back and play this game, it doesn't require a lot of thinking and strategy especially if you've already played zelda games but to me this is something I could mindlessly play for hours.

    Its also a fun couch co op game with your friends and family and anyone can pick it up fast and enjoy without making the other player feel useless. In which I will say Nintendo has always done a good job with making good party games that are fun, easy to pick up and still have a spice of challenge to it in which keeps the game from going stale.

    Upgrades are cool and awards keep me pushing through the level.

    So if i could nitpick some what would I nitpick?

    Well for starters I mentioned earlier that Nintendo is lagging behind in the online world. I would love to see this game for online co op or even a versus mode due to how the combat is.

    I will say they didn't stop the fair from being annoying in which is funny at first due to nostalgia but then you want to just kill that fairy and throw it into the nearest ceiling fan.

    The story is meh... But once again this isn't a "true" zelda game.

    so if you're looking for something fun and can play with friends or even just looking for something to charge up your easter egg nostalgia bar then I would say pick this up. If you're picky about your games and an elitist then I would just not get it and maybe even get a job. If you don't like hack n slash games like DW and devil may cry and the like then don't get it. I however enjoy it... its not the best game ever but its also not the worst zelda game ever, did anybody forget that Zelda CDi game..... ... that was the worst.

    TL;DR
    Good game not the best... if you're too picky wait for the price to drop or don't play it. Fun co op but would be nice to see it expand online.    … Expand

It's action packed, the characters look great, the moves are cool, the challenges keep you busy, off screen multiplayer is fun and I've barely even dug into Adventure mode.

    The game makes your adrenaline pump though, it's so action packed that there's never a dull moment. New items, new bosses and new missions keep popping up. When you finish a scenario, generally you want to play it again, possible in local co op, to explore more of the map and of the excellent 3d versions of familiar Zelda locations.

    The music is something special. Some tunes are familiar, some much less and some not at all but they all fit the action perfectly and keep you on your toes. I like it so much that everytime I start playing after a few minutes I start thinking that I need to turn the volume up.

    Now I decided, even as a Warriors noob, to start immediatly on hard difficulty and the game is definitely not a walk in the park on that level. The campaign, Legend, supposedly takes ten hours but I'm sure I've already spent double on it and there's still a lot left.

    Combined with the fact that you can play as so many classic Zelda characters and the fact that their is reasonably priced DLC coming out (more like a season pass for 4 DLC packs) and you got a game that you could really lose a lot of hours in. (DLC includes new scenarios, characters, weapons, costumes etc.)

    Of course there are negatives. Sometimes it's sloppy, like when you replay a certain scenario with a different character, yet in the cutscene the main character is talking. The resolution goes down on screen with local co op, but not too drastically. And Link could probably have done without the earrings ...

    All in all, there's so much content in this, so many collectibles, such an experimental formula for one of those games that became bigger that it's name that I can't but say that this is a solid old school Nintendo Quality Seal release. It's not perfect, it's Warrions but it's addictive and tons of fun.

    Recommended, not just for Zelda and/or Warrior fans but for everyone who likes good games.    … Expand

    this is my first time to play a dynasty warrior game. saw it a few times but didn't bought it. it is really fun to play this game with Zelda characters. It really depends on the gamers who wanted this type of genre. but for met it is already a good deal. When you pre-order it, it comes along with the Ganondorf costume DLC for free.

    It's a fun hack and slash game lots of different gameplay modes and unlockables to help with the replay value just don't go in thinking that it's a Zelda game and if your on the fence wait till it goes down in price

    This is one of the best Zelda games out there. So different but yet the same. A great spinoff and Zelda fan will love and non fans as well. So much content to unlock. Great game.

    This game amazes me, I wanted to give it a try cause I played just a little bit of other musou games, but this game is a lot better than I expected!

    You have to understand that this is not a core zelda game, it is a spin-off, your task is not to get in combats one on one, you have to conquer zones of the map so your army can advance to more areas. At least for me, it was a pleasant    This game amazes me, I wanted to give it a try cause I played just a little bit of other musou games, but this game is a lot better than I expected!

    You have to understand that this is not a core zelda game, it is a spin-off, your task is not to get in combats one on one, you have to conquer zones of the map so your army can advance to more areas.

    At least for me, it was a pleasant surprise, I have been collecting all the hearts, badges, picture pieces and everything this game has to offer.

    If you are a zelda fan, you have to play it! It has a lot of the great characters from the series, plus more coming on dlcs!!

    Play it on hard difficulty from the beginning and it will be a lot better, the other difficulties are pretty easy.
    The content of the game is amazing, it has a lot of replay value with modes like challenge and adventure.

    Give it a try at least, and remember , this is a musou game with zelda characters and enviroments, don't compare it to other zelda games, compare it to other musou games.    … Expand

    -No tutorial. There is amanual accessible through the home button. There is an in game manual as well before every map selection.

    -Monotonous. If you're a see-it all, collect-it-all kind of player than there is plenty of reason to enjoy the grind. Lots of upgradeable stats and materials. You just have to dig a little for it. If getting and using new combos is your thing then Hyrule warriors is for you. If your idea of monotony is killing 1000s of enemies, and fulfilling the same mission objective again and again then yeah this game is not for you. Personally I love a good old school JRPG, so this game hardly gets monotonous. This game is very deep, with 3 legitimately different game modes. Control mechanics also differ between characters, some are looser and faster, some are sticky and damage makers. Distance/ attack range also differs between characters.

    As a Zelda fan you couldn't ask for better fan service. Its incredible. But if you wanted a bona fide Zelda game, wait another year or two.    … Expand

    As a fan of the Warriors series, I loved it even more. The Warriors series has always been awesome, except in a few ways. When the camera screws up, when the enemies become repetitive, when an enemy seems to vanish from sight (also sometimes due to the camera), and when the story gets repetitive between titles. This game corrects every single issue. The cameras never screw up in this title in any impacting way. You can lock onto a major target, so you never just up and lose them. While locked on, you can dodge-roll and strafe around them, making combat much more varied and enjoyable. The enemies vary from canon-fodder, to officers with faces, to giant bosses and bosses that can fly. Finally, the story is very unique, even from a Zelda series standpoint. The gameplay never feels repetitive no matter how long you play.

    TL;DR: In my opinion, based on the gameplay alone, this is the single best Warriors series title to date. And when you add in fantastic the story, which is based on Zelda but is wholly unique, it becomes my top game for this generation so far. 10/10. Only Super Smash Bros could knock this title from my "Game of the Year" choice.    … Expand

This game isn't a normal Zelda game, with dungeons and a thought-provoking plot. This is just a ton of dumb fun. The "Legend Mode" has a fan service-y story, that lasted for about 10 hours.     I bought this game the day it came out where I live, September 26, and I've been playing it everyday for 1-10 hours each day. I think this game is great, and will keep you hooked. I loved this as an introduction to Dynasty Warriors, and as a Zelda spin-off to hold off my Zelda love until a true Zelda game comes next year.

With a market that is plentiful of shooters and sandbox games Hyrule Warriros offers combo filled fun gameplay with some of your favorite heroes.     Story:
    A not too complex story that doesn't get over convoluted with super odd characters or ridiculous scenarios. World is fine, someone comes in to disrupt the kingdom of Hyrule, set out on a mission to stop this foe, meet interesting people on the way. It does get really interesting when other worlds from past Zelda games come into play.
    Gameplay:
    Like any Dynasty Warriors games it has repetitive gameplay. You might be able to button mash your way throw but other enemy's need a different approach than just repeatedly pushing the same attack. Upgrades are available for each character using a tree that signifies your progress. Maps start out on the easy side but as you progress these enemy's become harder and harder so be prepare to die a lot.
    Visuals:
    Maps are on the bland side but it's expected when you're trying to run so many objects on the screen. Character animations are nicely done but things really shine with combos are executed automated fight sequences. Particle effects are beautiful especially when it's a ball of fire.
    Hyrule Warriors may not be cannon but it offers mindless fun that we rarely see. It's easy to get into and discovering hidden items and new weapons makes it a ton of fun.    … Expand

    I initially thought the game would be lacking in characters/weapons/content because DW games tend to have a lot of characters and such, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that this was not the case and that there is plenty to do (plus DLCs on the way).

    The only reason I can't give this game a perfect 10 is because there are some obvious rough edges. The targeting system is very flukie, and because of how specials work there are times where you get some glitchy outcomes. Using the hookshot on bosses, for instance, causes some weird pushback issues, and one time when fighting The Imprisoned, his toes glitched and I couldn't hit them, making completion of the level impossible. Same logic applies to dodges and blocks: There are a lot of times when you're on the receiving end of some ghost hits.

    Also, as much as I like what they did with Adventure Mode, I'm not entirely sold on how they placed the treasures throughout the levels. Some characters have treasures in levels that are quite awkward for that particular character. I'm all for things being challenging, but I still like things to feel fluid and consistent with the character I'm playing. And, it would've been nice to have been able to get weapons earlier. (The only exception is Link, who has a ton of variety with his weapons, so you get plenty early.)

    Overall, though, these things are minor grievances and hardly make an impact on my impression of the game. Very satisfied and excited for the DLCs!    … Expand

    I think the Zelda touch makes the series more fun. It seems more rewarding with the rupees and buying stuff that way. It's true the AI is weak. But this is not a fighting game. It is about reenacting the battle and you playing a larger than life hero. Thus in that way the AI is meant to be weak. How heroic would Link seem if he struggled against a generic foe? And if he struggled against one foe, how would he do on a battlefield with 1,000's of foes? Thus the reason the AI is comically weak. As you face 1,000's of foes , plus boss battles in each battle.

    The series fun is in leveling up many heroes, and their abilities. At first there are few heroes but eventually through your actions you open new people to play. You also can customize your hero by choosing their special abilities and weapons in each battle. Though it is not terribly deep, it is enough to keep you interested. And the battles can take a half hour or so. So they are not too long, but are still short enough for you to try many builds. The game can be great fun to fight in co-op battles. It has several modes and this usually appeals to different types of players. If you enjoy playing such games, you will find that Hyrule Warrios like Dynasty Warriors will give you many hours worth of enjoyment, along with great replay value.

    Again this game is not a Zelda series game. It is a Dynasty Warrior game with a Zelda facelift. And it does a great job at being that, thus I give it an 8. If these games had an Extreme difficulty where it was almost impossible to win the fights, then it would probably be a 10. As a RTK fan, I'm always a little sad when I beat Lu Bu in a fight. But the fact the Dynasty Warrior series has me knowing who he was, is a huge victory in itself.    … Expand

    The only big problem I have with his game is difficulty spikes. Usually the game is really easy, but in some certain situations you can find yourself frustrated at the game. An example of this if you have too many large enemies characters (Other warriors, powerful minions, etc.) attacking you at once. If you are trying to go for an A Rank on an Adventure Square, the large amount of powerful enemies can remove all of you health in a matter of seconds, you can even me at maximum level and still get destroyed.

    All in all, if you enjoy hack and slashes, and enjoy Zelda, this game is something different to add to your collection.    … Expand

I did not expect this to be as good as it was, the graphics are great and it gives all the characters new life. The music is also great, a good number of pieces from other zelda games and also some new music which is also great. The game removes the dungeon crawling and puzzles in favor of real time strategy battles between two or more warring parties. The game plays like any other game in the Warriors franchise but it still stay true to its Zelda roots. In each “scenario” the player can choose from a variety of playable characters (many familiar faces but a few new ones as well) and you will play on iconic Zelda locations from multiple games.

    In each battle you play as a one-man army who takes on thousands of enemy soldiers in order to wipe out the enemy army or keep them from advancing. You will play as an overpowered character but the sheer number of enemies keeps the game from getting too easy. The main quest or “Legends mode” will probably last 8-12 hours depending on which difficulty you choose and if you are playing single or multiplayer. There is also a challenge mode as well as Adventure mode where you make your way across the map from the original Legend of Zelda completing all sorts of challenges. The combat here is the same as the main game but you can earn a ton of extra weapons and upgrades by doing well in each level. Adventure mode has a huge variety of difficulties and all sorts of different challenges; I’ve been playing Adventure mode for 10 hours now and I still have a ton to do. There is also an awesome system for getting new combos, better defense, creating/upgrading weapons and leveling up low level characters using rupees you find in the game. The game keeps this balanced by not allowing you to level up any character to a rank that is higher than your highest level character.

    The game looks good on the Wii U but its graphics suffer when you play using the screen on the gamepad. If you are playing with 2 people, one person will have to use the gamepad while the other uses a Wiimote and Nunchuck or Wii U Pro Controllers (Sorry, no classic controllers). I rarely had issues with lag or framerate drops co-op like others have mentioned. The music is excellent! Most of the time the score consists of revamped music from the main Zelda series and it fits the game really well. The game has 3 difficulty levels right from the start which do a good job of making the game enjoyable for everyone. Upon complete Legends mode a harder difficulty will be added. The game controls well and everything responds the way you expect it to.

    My main concern with Hyrule Warriors is the fairly easy and overused bosses and the gameplay which can get repetitive. There was also a $20 day one DLC pack. Even if you buy the DLC you will get it periodically instead of all at once. While this does increase the longevity of the game, day one DLC just turns me off. There was also a $8 Master Quest DLC but you get it all at once and it gives you some new story level and gives you whole new adventure mode map.

    This is a must have for Wii U owners especially if you are a Zelda fan.    … Expand

This Dynasty Warriors and The Legend of Zelda crossover has great elements, both old and new. Although, I wish they included online multiplayer. And if you are a beginner gamer, I wouldn't recommend it, cause this game can get challenging. Hyrule Warriors is truly a Warriors game, but it is set up as though it could truly be a game within The Legend of Zelda universe. Koei Tecmo and Nintendo along with Omega Force and Team Ninja came together to create a game that should tickle the most dedicated Zelda fanboy pink. From its absolutely stunning HD visuals, repeated references and content from nearly every Zelda game to date, and surprisingly fresh--albeit short--true-to-the-franchise plot, Hyrule Warriors continues to amaze me more and more by how much it has to offer.
    The game offers up the introduction of four brand new characters to go with the numerous characters that we incorporated from Zelda games past. These characters feel quite at home within the Zelda themed world, and in fact they should with the numerous inspirations that they draw from the series. Volga, the Dragon Knight, is the very first boss that you fight in the game, and although the fight is short lived, through later encounters with him and his opening cutscenes, clear design connections to characters like Volvagia (Ocarina of Time) and Onyx (The Oracle Series) can be made with little effort. Later in the story, you encounter the Twisted Wizard Wizzro, who again has clear design connections to a recurring enemy of the Zelda series wizzrobe, and the poe collector (Ocarina of Time). The two remaining new characters although very fresh in design, very well might have also been greatly inspired from characters in The Oracle Series. Cia, the Dark Sorceress, may well have been based on Veran the Sorceress of Shadows. Lana, the White Sorceress, bears striking resemblance to Nayru from that series. Regardless of the speculations about which characters these new characters possibly resemble, it is clear that they fit perfectly within a world containing those of previous Zelda games.
    The game mechanics feel flawless in so many respects, and the fighting style feels right at home for those who have played recent main console Zelda games. Although the arsenal of secondary weapons in the game is slightly limited (not typical of any Legend of Zelda game), the powerups offered for these weapons give the player a specific time to use them to their advantage. The game does not have any puzzle mechanics in it, however it does reward exploration as is typical to the Zelda series.
    When I started the game, there wasn't a single other game that I wanted to play until I finished it, because although the characters lacked proper introductions, I immediately felt connected to them, and I wanted to see what happened to and between them. Nearly everything felt like it had a slight improvement over its classic roots.
    The game isn't overtly difficult at a normal level, but the more you scale up the difficulty, the more punished the player becomes from making decisions that aren't smart in the overall picture of the battle. The game rewards fast kills and combos that take the least amount of time for the right number and strength of enemies. In most games, the secondary modes serve as only a few hours of extra entertainment for "completionists"; however, in Hyrule Warriors, Adventure mode not only serves as a way to continue leveling up your current characters in the game with unique challenges, it also allows the unlock of 4 new characters to play, and new weapons for some of the existing characters. Once you've gotten your characters to where you want them, you can actually replay any of the story missions with any unlocked character in the game's free mode. On top of all that, the Hardcore gamer can always compete in fast paced missions in yet another scenario based mode. The game also supports local co-op for those who want to play with friends even.
    In truth, I was hoping for a traditional Zelda experience, and although I knew I wouldn't get one to begin with, I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience with the game thus far, and I hope that these teams can come together again at least as design consultants for an upcoming title in the main Legend of Zelda series. The game offers hours of potential casual and hardcore entertainment that truly is worth any Zelda or Dynasty Warriors time and effort. I look forward to all the upcoming DLC, and I hope that Nintendo is now inspired to make a Zelda game that looks as beautiful as Hyrule Warriors (and includes Lana and Cia!). As long as the player accepts what type of game they are playing, instead of complaining about what it isn't, the entertainment value will be off the charts.    … Expand

    As with all games of the Legend of Zelda series the music is great! The visuals are spectacular and the overall feel of the game is pleasant and smooth. There are frame rate drops when the screen gets really cluttered but it doesn't stagger, just slows down.

    If you're a Warriors fan then definitely check it out. If you're a Zelda fan expecting another Zelda game then check it out you might like the refreshing new style. If you don`t like the repetitive nature of Warriors games then you will not like this.

    However this, my friends, is a beautiful combination.

    Coming from a diehard Zelda Fan since day 1, dispite what alot of people say about this game, and the fact that so many people hate the idea of Koei/Tecmo has had their hands in it, they are missing all the things that make this a Zelda Game!

    First of all, the controls.
    The player can switch freely between Warriors style controls, and Zelda style.
    The Zelda scheme feels plenty like Zelda.

    Targeting!
    The "Z Targeting System" which was the heart and soul of the combat system of every 3D Zelda Game works the same way. And it feels comfortable. Players can switch targets by flicking the right stick towards any other targetable enemy on screen.

    Zelda Tools!

    The tools that made bossfights and exploring that much more fun have been integrated smoothly into the game! Bombs - for blowing up hordes of enemies at a time and clearing pathways. Bow - pierces and freezes multiple enemies in a line. Hookshot - for accessing secret areas that are out of reach and pulling yourself toward enemies to chain devastating combos. Boomerang - stuns multiple enemies in a group, picking up items, and interrupting enemy charge attacks. All have upgrade drops during battle for a temporary effect boost. Also all are used to reveal weaknesses of boss monsters.

    Boss Monsters!

    In some scenarios, Boss monsters like King Dodongo, Ghoma, Manhandla, and Argorok will show up randomly during battle and unleash their fury by rampaging across the field killing allies and foes alike. All have weaknesses to certain tools to expose their weaknesses (Sounds exactly how all Zelda bosses play out, right?). Most of their appearances are programmed into certain battles in the main story mode.

    Treasures, Heart Pieces, and Gold Skulltullas

    These are hidden in varying strongholds and random locations on the feild. Taking time out of the fight to explore forces players to micromanage in order to find what they are looking for and keep their allies alive....which makes it loads more interesting than just the monotony of killing endless hordes of enemies. Seems to me like thats the only con that people can focus on which makes them refuse to dig deeper.

    And last but not least, "the little things".

    The little things thst complete the zelda feel. No voices. "Proxi" acting as a advocate for Link as he has never spoken a single word in the entire series. Sheik's harp songs "Song of Storms", "Bolero of Fire" , "Nocturne of Shadow", and "Serenade of Water". Impa's Biggoron Sword. And so on.... Plus! If no one has ever noticed..... You Can Cut The Freakin Grass For Items!!!!!

    Despite the Warriors title which may scare those who absolutely detest Warriors games, this game still, in fact, Screams Zelda! It Feels like Zelda! It is Zelda! Its a spin off yes... but Zelda none the less.

    And as for the other complaints about the game, "Too easy" - You can change the difficulty...the AI may not be very smart, but they make up for that with more damaging attacks, enemies will block more, and be harder to take down forcing the players to take their time guarding and not mindlessly mashing combos.
    "Not enough content" there is plenty of content. Plenty of grinding and the adventure mode is tough. You will come to a point where you need to get an A rank just to access the space where a treasure is on the map. This combined with the option to adjust difficulty makes for a challenging and fulfilling experience.
    "Frame Rate Drops" Come On People!! The frap drops are not that bad, first of all... secondly...having hundreds of enemies on the screen at once is bound to drop the fraps a bit. Its unavoidable. The frap drop isnt as prominent for the warrior titles on ps4...so the slightly limited Nintendo console as far as sheer power and operating speed is enough for us to just accept it, and say "this was expected" and get the heck over it!

    And the writer of the article mentioned players being "upset about moving mouths but no voices"? What a lame thing to even complain about. Moving mouths during dialogue has been used since Twilight Princess. And it will more than likely be used in Zelda WiiU. To complain about this would be the same as complaining about hand gestures during dialogue in OoT, MM, and WW. I see that point as being entirely irrelevant.

    There are cons such as repetitiveness and lackluster plot. But it's to be expected from a spinoff.

    Doing the local multiplayer with TV for the first player and the gamepad for the second is a great Idea, but enemy numbers are greatly reduced and the gamepad resolution and AA looks pretty bad.
    Grinding upgrades and weapons isn't for everyone. It takes a lot of time and can get annoying.
    Also you won't nearly enjoy this game as much if you are not a Zelda fan.
    Compared to Dynasty Warriors 8, the contend is also a bit lacking, but that's pretty normal for a spinoff.

    All in all it's nothing special, but still a game you will have fun with for a long time.    … Expand

    It boggles my mind how this game continues to be so enjoyable despite having combat that should in theory become boring after an hour. Cutting down hordes upon hordes of enemies as Zelda characters from across the franchise is a blast, as each character plays differently, and the game is ripe with Zelda fanservice throughout.

    Its got the right level of complexity to allow for quick half hour games as well as playing hours on end.

    Finally a Zelda game that is for the hardcore action fans. It is a nice spin-off title that should have come around a long time ago. It is best to take the game in small bits, because the constant button mashing can get tedious and tiresome, but they didn't include a number of different characters for nothing.

It's not as deep as the Zelda games, but it is pretty good as a standalone title.

    However this game has a few issues. While Co-op is very fun, the slowdown is very frequent and can disrupt your game. The camera is very wonky and can give a poor view on where you are if you are surrounded by enemies. If you play this game on easy, you will mow right through everything and everyone and it can get very repetitive.

    This game is a celebration of The Legend of Zelda franchise and if you are a fan of said series, you will have a crap ton of fun with this game. I recommend it if you are a die hard Zelda and Dynasty Warriors fan.    … Expand

Every singly character feels unique and everything seems to make a reference to other zelda games. For what it is this game is very good and lots of fun, but i suggest that this game is looked into before purchase.

    The regular story mode was fun to complete on normal... I cant imagine beating the final boss on Hero but I guess that is a challenge I will have to be up to one day. Adventure mode is basically equivalent to shorter levels compared to story mode. You do quick challenges like beat specific bosses or kill a certain number of enemies. I like that it forces you to use characters you may not have had much time to play with in story mode.

    I haven't done much with the other modes but I am glad I have future options available to me once I get tired of the modes I have focused on so far.

    Upgrades for each character are numerous. You can give them better attacks, better defense, and other things such as options to carry more potions. You will play forever trying to upgrade your favorite (or all) characters.

    BOTTOM LINE: If you are a Zelda fan, you will most likely love this game. If you are into button mashing games, you will enjoy this game. The DLC that has been released, and yet to be released, will had more replay-ability to this game.    … Expand

    Really impressed by this game! I thought it would be just another boring dynasty warriors game with zelda skin, but I was proven wrong the second I played this game! This game is a ton of fun. Nonstop action that just keeps getting more fun as the stakes raise. Tons of zelda fanservice and changes what I dont like about dynasty warriors! A must buy for any zelda fan in my opinion!

    I have never played a Warriors' game and never had any desire to. That said, I enjoyed the crap out of Hyrule Warriors. Maybe it was the Zelda themed story and the fact that anything Zelda makes me smile. I prefer deep RPGs and story driven action titles. I did have a lot of fun with this game and for what it is, it's awesome. No technical issues, tight controls and a fantastic Zelda backdrop made for a great time for me. Zelda fans should love it. Warriors' fans may enjoy it, unless this entry interferes with some sort of storyline in the main series. I have no idea how they are set up so I don't know. But if its the gameplay they are after, they should feel right at home. Manhandling groups of enemies, completing objectives and capturing keeps. That's all here and executed beautifully. I will keep this game in my collection and pop it in when I want to just wreck enemies and have some mindless fun. My score of the game is an 8/10 Awesome.

Obviously, this is not a title of Zelda series as we are accustomed, but the game drinking from fountain that had been built over the years at Nintendo, taking four of the biggest games of the franchise to use as background: Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword. In addition Tecmo Koei and Nintendo give the player the opportunity to control not only Link, but also many of the iconic characters of the entire franchise: Ganondorf, Darunia, Girahim, Midna, Sheik, Impa and even sticks to Zelda own. The game also features an interesting replay factor with the game mode Adventure, which provides interesting challenges for the player to go unlocking various items and weapons of the beloved Nintendo franchise. The only thing I dislike in Hyrule Warriors is the multiplayer mode. In it, a player takes on the gamepad while the other plays the TV screen. So far so good, but the big problem is that the game suffers from many falls frames, plus a huge fall in the graphs. At times we seem to be playing a game of Wii and not the mighty Wii U. Otherwise the game also offers some fun DLCs for fans of the series. Defending keeps, however is an entirely different story. One of my main gripes with the game is where the checkpoints are placed. After a checkpoint, your base might fall and if you start at that checkpoint again, your base will fall every time, forcing you to restart the level. This only occurred on one or two levels out of 18 but I didn't like it.

    The character roster is a major plus in the game. The characters are pulled from Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword with a few new characters like Lana and Cia (one of the main villains) getting thrown in there too. All of them are really unique but characters like Ganondorf, Darunia, Zelda, and Sheik are definitely my favorites. My other main problem with the game is the way you unlock characters which is through Adventure Mode. The challenges to unlock them are so tough it's unbearable and sometimes I wished I could just unlock them through the story.

    To my surprise, the story is incredibly engaging and there were even a couple of plot twists. Even if a level was too hard (or my base kept falling as previously stated) it was worth getting through it just to find out where the story would go next. Bosses aren't in all the levels but they're in most of them. I didn't really enjoy the bosses. They seemed more like nuisances than actual bosses.

    Overall, Hyrule Warriors is a great game with solid gameplay, engaging story, and strong characters. My main problem with the game is the difficulty and checkpoints but they're pretty minor.    … Expand

    This game is only getting low scores by reviewers who a) got the game for free and/or b) are gamers who like Zelda and don't enjoy the Dynasty Warrior series. One called it 'cringe worthy'... I'm sorry but I have been playing Zelda games for at least 20 years and I think this game is a blast. Very polished and fun to play with a friend because of the gamepad.

    A fantastic spin off. It's way better than Destiny because the game is actually fun to play. And it doesn't try to be too ambitious but it is very fun. It may not be a Triple A 500 million dollar game, but it is a great experience.

    This game is meant for dynasty warrior fans and the few Zelda fans who are into DW, IT IS NOT meant to be a regular Zelda game. Understand what the culture in Japan is like , dynasty warriors is huge , here it's not , if you can't handle the repitivness then don't get it . Other than that , it's a great game with improved gameplay from past DW.

    Real fans knew what was coming, so it's not a surprise that this is a Hack 'n Slash game with a Zelda MOD on it.
    Don't bother me to be pwning hordes of mobs with Link and the master sword..
    People bashing the game and the console one little advice. Don't buy the console and keep your mouths shut. that's all.

    This game is great, I came in with moderate expectations, but honestly it blew me away with how much fun it is. It's not as easy as some claim it to be but it's not mind numbingly difficult too. It's just good old fashion fun, especially if you play on harder difficulties the bosses and captains will give you a bit of a challenge. I highly recommend this game!

    If you're coming into this game expecting a Zelda game you're gonna have a bad time because it isn't a traditional Zelda game, however it does have elements such as finding treasure and using items like your boomerang, hook-shot, bombs etc and often you will fight bosses that require you to work out their pattern so you avoid their attack and snag them with the bow or whatever that boss requires to injure.
    The story is rather short and not too spectacular, but really it's not a game you want to play for it's story in the first place. It meant to just bring a heap of characters together so that way they look good fighting all those Zelda baddies and so you can have a great time fighting them as Midna, Darunia or Ganondorf. The aesthetics of the game look pleasing, the art style of the characters look nice in beautiful HD and I just love Lana's look, she's just so cute! Not only that but playing as Impa, Sheik or Princess Zelda is just badass, if ever people want to complain about women not being represented in video games I'm just going to point them towards several female characters in this game!

    The only con I can really give this game is that some stages are overly used and that much is apparent in adventure mode. Plus no online multiplayer? Come on Nintendo and Tecmo Koei! Online for this game would be awesome, you could've had 4 player co-op! Hopefully this'll be in a patch in the future.

    Give it a try, either you'll love it or hate it. It all depends on how you feel about the Dynasty Warriors style of games. Just don't listen to the guys giving it 0... it really looks as though they didn't know what to expect.     The game looked really linear and static gameplay-wise when I watched the trailer, but it actually is much different than that. There are nearly endless amounts of combos.

    Gameplay- 10/10. The gameplay is amazing and very smooth.
    Weaponry- 10/10. Legitimately the only game besides and Square Enix game that has the most ridiculously oversized/overpowered weapons that make a 12 year old swoon in violent-fueled happiness.
    Controls- 10/10. Easy to use, and button mashing doesnt exactly save you in the game.
    Story- 10/10. Bring back awesome Zelda memories after the prologue.
    Graphics (yeah I went there)- For Nintendo this is a definite 10/10
    Characters- 10/10. So many awesome characters. Not spoiling anything but man they are good.
    Would I play this again? You bet your Master Sword I would.
    This game is beautiful. This makes my inner Michael Bay explode with amazement.
    They managed to take Dynasty Warriors, fuse it into Zelda, and still stay true to what Zelda really is.
    This game deserves a standing ovation.

    Nintendo has yet again impressed me. I highly recommend it to everyone who loves Zelda.

Recently purchased Dynasty Warriors 8 Complete Edition on PS4, great game! Same game as others, with multiple tweaks...kind of like call of duty has been the same game since Modern Warfare with different weapons and a few tweaks, SAME CONCEPT!

    The game play is fun, fast, and chaotic like you would expect from a "warriors" series. As a Zelda fan, I look forward to playing as Gannon, Zelda, Ipa, and many others. This game does one thing better than the others... BOSS CHARACTERS! Finding fairy caves to help out and attacking giant bosses is something the Dynasty Warriors series does not have. Also, to be able to play on the Gamepad, and have a friend play on the T.V. in the same "arena", makes it a blast! Great Co-Op. Also I just wanted to play as Link with the Master Sword originally, but all the different weapons and styles and characters really diversify the experience! Absolutely enjoy this thoroughly!

    So if you see the case with Link on the cover and go, Oh a new Zelda game, I expect you to dislike this. If you are a gamer, you have probably been anticipating this and understand what you are getting when you purchase this.     Graphics and Sound: The visuals aren’t as striking as I expected but the number of characters onscreen at once makes up for that and the character design itself is pretty good. The sound effects are undoubtedly better than the soundtracks but that’s not to say the soundtracks are bad.

    Playability and Entertainment: While most of the so-called story is repetitive as to be expected in Dynasty Warriors, the combat is adrenaline-filled and a journey I appreciated having the opportunity to take.

    Replay Value: Moderate.

    Loved the game! I recommend it to many Zelda Fans. It was something new, and it worked out great. Although things were different, you get used to things like the controls and youll slowly understand the mechanics. I understand people hated it for no tutorials, but as long as you are a true zelda fan, youd understand most boss weaknesses. Game was excited and something to look foward to :)

It looks fabulous and in general is a great game. Most people are just upset because it is not like a traditional Zelda game. It's a step in a different direction from the other Zelda games and is entertaining, fun and very unique. The sound track is good, the graphics are good and the game is worth picking up! Just another game that beats anything the PS4 or Xbox One have. 10/10.… Expand

    With a rocking soundtrack, loads of content, plenty of fan service and some clever gelling of two disparate video game universes, Hyrule Warriors is easily my favourite game of 2014 so far.
