    This is a very fun, short Zelda multiplayer game. If your looking for a quick fix until Smash Bros. Wii U comes out, this will hold you over. The ups about this game are fast fun fighting game, the downs are, not the new Zelda game.

    Hyrule Warriors is a fantastic entry into the Dynasty Warriors series for Zelda fans. The gameplay is rewarding, allowing for hours of play and endless things to unlock. One week from release, I've gotten 38 hours from this game,and with the DLC being released over the next few months, I feel this game has much more to offer.
    Whilst it could improve in terms of co-op play and some slight    Hyrule Warriors is a fantastic entry into the Dynasty Warriors series for Zelda fans. The gameplay is rewarding, allowing for hours of play and endless things to unlock.     Someone at Nintendo just kicked my puppy.
    I had so much expectation into the new Zelda game, but now I understand why it's not call Legend of Zelda.
    A saw once a Nintendo direct video telling us that the next Zelda would be an Adventure beyond imagination with fieilds and lands to explore. All I see is a over the top smash enemies with incredible combos you know from the very beginning    Someone at Nintendo just kicked my puppy.

    No quest at all. no exploration, no Inventory... Where is Legend of Zelda? I was disappointed that Nintendo brought Windwaker instead of a Brand new game, but now I'm even more disappointed. I'll continue the game but i doubt i have the heart to finish it.

    This is a very fun and unique game. It is not merely a Dynasty Warriors game with a Zelda skin. It is more so an action Zelda game. Yes, it has mechanics from Dynasty Warriors. However, the charm Zelda games makes this specific game feel fresh and different. I do not really enjoy Dynasty Warriors games, however, because this game has a Zelda flare, I find it to be a great game. SomeThis is a very fun and unique game. It is not merely a Dynasty Warriors game with a Zelda skin. It is more so an action Zelda game. Yes, it has mechanics from Dynasty Warriors. However, the charm Zelda games makes this specific game feel fresh and different. I do not really enjoy Dynasty Warriors games, however, because this game has a Zelda flare, I find it to be a great game. Some playable characters are not too fun, like Agitha, but others, like Cia, Lana and Link are great. Just wait until you can conjure up a cube, jump on it and roll it over the villians--fantastic. There has a massive amount of content that will keep you busy and having fun (I would imagine, over 120 hours worth). The graphics are lovely and really displays the Nintendo art style. The sound effects are quite good and the music on various stages are very catchy and add to the mood of the battle. Downsides to the game: again, some playable characters are not that good. However, a majority of them are very unique and absolutely fun to play. DLC is also very good and the new adventure map has some fun and unique levels. Enjoy.… Expand

    This game is great. It's a lot of fun playing with the many different characters and playing on stages with graphics that looked like they were plucked out of the Zelda games themselves. It's fun to be able to use characters that I may (or may not) have wanted to play with in previous entries of the Zelda series such as Midna and Agatha. However, don't let the visuals of the game fool you into thinking it's another Zelda title, because it is far from it.

    This game is much more like a Dynasty Warrior game rather than a Zelda game because there are no dungeon, no overworld map to explore, and to real puzzles to be solved. This game is a Hack and Slash that is filled with going around trying to kill as many enemies as you can with constantly changing objectives and usually trying to take over the board by taking control of keeps.

    If you are looking for a Zelda-esque game, you are looking at the wrong game. However, if you think you may be into what this game has to offer, I believe it earns a spot on the must have games for Wii U owners.    … Expand

    Hyrule Warriors exceeded all expectations I had. Combat is a blast and the ever changing battlefield and objectives keep the game from ever feeling repetitive. The different characters are all fun to play as and have their own nuances, the visuals in the game are stellar and the animation is fluid, the game runs at a silky smooth 60fps.

    I can say with complete confidence that this is    Hyrule Warriors exceeded all expectations I had. Combat is a blast and the ever changing battlefield and objectives keep the game from ever feeling repetitive. The different characters are all fun to play as and have their own nuances, the visuals in the game are stellar and the animation is fluid, the game runs at a silky smooth 60fps.

    Amazing! Just got it this afternoon, played alone for an hour, and 4 hours of coop - adventure mode with my brother! Perfect for those who want a taste of something freshly new! Amazing crossover, this is not a Zelda title, but it never loses that amazing feeling when you are playing a new Zelda title

    Great game with lots of combat and addicting gameplay. Legend mode is basically the adventure and it sure is fun. One thing that would make this game really amazing would be an online play where you go against other people trying to capture a certain point in the map. Like Dynasty Warriors but with more fun aspects added to it. I think this game rightfully deserves a 10/10

    At some point while I was stylishly slicing my way through hundreds of enemies as my favorite Zelda characters in beautiful scenery to a fantastic soundtrack, I realized that I was having an amazing time.

    The combat is excellent, and the story is surprisingly enjoyable. It's nothing mind-boggling, but it certainly is much more interesting than I anticipated. This is nothing like a Zelda game, as it is completely based off of the Dynasty Warriors series, but the game is still excellent nonetheless. Hyrule Warriors is a breathe of fresh air in today's gaming industry.

    Fantastic game! Being able to take on hordes of enemies with Zelda characters is a blast no matter how many times I do it. I've already completed the main storyline and I'm working on collecting materials to upgrade the characters. Working on finding weapons and fusing them to make even better weapons is a fun way to further improve your characters as well. The Adventure mode where youFantastic game! Either by yourself or with network "Links", the Adventure mode offers extra missions to complete to get materials, weapons and more skultulas to unlock more pictures. The replayability of this game is pretty big when you consider upgrading all of the characters that you can unlock! I'm looking forward to the DLC packs with extra missions and characters as well.… Expand

    This game is addictive and has a ridiculous amount of replay value. However, this game has it's fair share of problems. The locales get a little old after a while. I wish they would have designed each battlefield in different color schemes at different times of day for Adventure mode.     Every Legen of Zelda fan should own this game. It is an amazing game that drowns you in nostalgia, and 100+ hours of gameplay. I would call it my game of the year, but that was recently given to Bayonetta 2.

Hyrule Warriors, for one, FAR exceeded my expectations and offers an extremely rich and detailed world of Hyrule perfect for hosting these large battles on. The storyline is very well-thought out, and I think the characters that were chosen to be part of this epic adventure were perfect choices, especially with more characters being added by way of DLC.
    Personally, I know some people would just look at this game as senselessly beating up hordes of enemies, and while it DOES have that element...it also has so much more that makes the game worth experiencing by any Zelda fan, as there are so many callbacks to the Zelda series that it truly could be called canon if no one was told otherwise.
    In closing, I can only hope Koei Tecmo is able to do either a Hyrule Warriors 2, or bring another popular Nintendo franchise into their myriad of Warriors games.    … Expand

    If you like dynasty warriors and pirate warriors this is not very much different except one thing.... ITS LEGEND OF ZELDA!!!! Its fun, beautiful, and has a great nostalgic effect. It is addicting and is a great pick up on the wii u. I am open to most types of games and this one is definitely worth the buy so far.

    This game is great. Not really the best Zelda Game, (My favourite Zelda Game is Ocarina of Time on the N64 but I like the 3DS remake better) but it is worth buying. The graphics are good for the Wii U. The character selection is the best. The Majora's Mask DLC is awesome. The mechanics and controls are okay. The music isn't that good (except for Hyrule Field and a few others). Overall, IThis game is great.     if you call your self a Zelda fan and dont own this game I dont know what to tell you :/ all Dynasty Warriors and Zelda fans are going to love this game is that good.

    Definitely the best Warriors game I have played in every regard. Combat is good, fluid combos and musou/magic powers balance out good with it. Technically the game runs great, I havent noticed any frame rate or enemy pop-in issues that have plagued all other Warriors games.     Honestly the absolute worst Zelda game ever. I was expecting something bad and that's what i got. It is so boring and nothing like any Zelda game should be. If you don't care about story at all and just want to button mash then this is a game for you. But otherwise this game takes no skill at all.

In my opinion, it's not worth it, especially that there are also obnoxious sound effects, and the long opening chest time with these annoying patronising fairies are back.

    In conclusion, unlike the good Zelda games, like the original Zelda, A Link to The Past or A Link Between Worlds, Hyrule Warriors requires from its players no intelligence, hardly any skill (yeah, just keep tapping buttons to perform combos) and doesn't teach them anything.    … Expand

    I was expecting this game to be "meh". The last time I played a Dynasty Warriors game was when the Dynasty Warriors 2 hit the ps2. Dynasty Warriors 2 was pretty repetitive, but I was blown away back then by how many units you could fight simultaneously in a video game.....Plus you could fight on elephants which was crazy! It was a technical marvel in this aspect and was the main thingI was expecting this game to be "meh". The last time I played a Dynasty Warriors game was when the Dynasty Warriors 2 hit the ps2. Dynasty Warriors 2 was pretty repetitive, but I was blown away back then by how many units you could fight simultaneously in a video game.....Plus you could fight on elephants which was crazy! It was a technical marvel in this aspect and was the main thing that main the game interesting. I was like 15 back then and probably only enjoyed the game when I was drunk or high. I remember enjoying it for a few hours primarily just for the mass genocide you could inflict.

    Fast forward more than a decade later and Hyrule Warriors comes out....wow...NOTHING HAS CHANGE. It is the same damn game as the Dynasty Warrior games that came out almost 15 years ago! Same amount of enemies on screen....which was impressive back then but not impressive now. The enemies just stand still waiting for you to hit them...they dont even attack you. There is pop-in of enemies....there is no variety. There is no challenge at all, you just press the same button over and over again. The levels are bland open fields. I could go on and on about how much this game sucks, but I would be here all day. Overall this is essentially just a 15 year old game with a Zelda Modification. I havn't played the other 20 dynasty warriors games since the first ps2 one....but if they are all like this then they all SUCK! I dont even think they have created a new graphics engine. Same graphics, same gameplay, same everything as the Dynasty Warriors games that came out over 15 years ago.

    And anyone who says "Its a good game considering its a "warriors" game". Dynasty Warriors isnt a genre.....its a series of crappy games. The first Dynasty games that came out were decent, but that was over a decade ago.....and it appears that every "Dynasty" game since Dynasty Warriors 2 is just the same game with new skins and textures. Every Dynasty Warriors game that comes out every year gets progresively worse, because it ages and it becomes more and more apparent that it is just a rehash and modification of the original Dynasty Warriors 2. Nintendo should be ashamed for allowing this to occur....Dynasty Warriors games are a scourge that should be eliminated from the current video game landscape.     Samurai Warriors 4 is better. That's all you need to know. This one is a step back compared to other Warriors games, is slower paced and despite having lots of colors it actually looks really washed out and, as such, ugly to look at.

    It does exactly what it sets out to do - merge to beloved franchises into something new. It will help hold you over until the release of Zelda for Wii U, and is fun in its own right. Typical Nintendo and Zelda charm, with lots and lots of hack and slash.

    The Most FUN i have had in a long while. I have beat around half the game and cannot put it down. Presentation Good Presentation, but the Menus could be better and the weapon crafting system is really confusing at first.     Good Presentation, but the Menus could be better and the weapon crafting system is really confusing at first.

    Gameplay

    Very enjoyable, note that i have never played a dynasty warrior game on which this is based. I really like the special moves, the huge amount of playable characters and the DLC.

    Graphics

    Disappointing aspect of the game. The game is very pretty and i love the art system (although some levels are very bland, others are very good) runs at 720p 30 fps with dips in frame-rate when it gets heavy on the action. Also I have messed up the audio sync in cut scenes when I had to pause during a cut scene.

    Sound

    Good, but I wish the 6.1 audio mix was better. Also There needs to be more voice acting! they have great scenes and then it reverts to on screen text with almost animal crossing style gibberish as there voices...

    I wish this game had split screen co op and online co op, also not everyone wants to be forced to use the "gamepad" over a regular controller. Its 2014 Nintendo come on :(

    Satisfying, briefly, but unless you have a particular compulsion to obliterate the same 3 enemies tens of thousands of times, you might consider borrowing it from a friend or checking it out from a library for a few days

    While Hyrule Warriors may have fantastic fan service (albeit sometimes I wish there was more) it's a boringly generic action game where winning is so easy that the 20 minute matches feel like hours. While some dumb fun an be found, this is only recommend for the most hardcore Zelda fans. And even then it may not even be worth the hassle. For full review check out BathroomGamers on YouTube :)

    I've bought both versions of this game and play on the N3DS, bought all of the DLC. I really wanted to like this, spent a lot of time wanting to. Well first off let me say the N3DS version is a decent port just don't expect to turn on the stereoscopic 3D unless you want to trade in half your frames for it. And the game doesn't even try anymore once you're done with Legend Mode (the main story mode) and continue to Adventure Mode. Because at this point you will no longer even see *ANY* new maps or enemies or bosses, ever. It only recycles the same things over and over, with every adventure map that comes out. Somehow these adventure maps get quite a lot of praise It seems. I really couldn't tell you why. If they were free it would've been okay but it seems they're part of the paid DLC and it's really not something worth extra money. It just seems like a way to extort nostalgic Zelda fans.… Expand

This is a welcome change from the motion controls being jammed down our throats in Skyward Sword. Combat is fluid and fun while you mow through hordes of enemies completing the current objective. Sure most of theHyrule Warriors is nearly mindless, but it's a ton of fun. The combat is very simple, smash B a lot and then hit Y for a heavy attack, with some dodge/rolling mechanics. This is a welcome change from the motion controls being jammed down our throats in Skyward Sword. Combat is fluid and fun while you mow through hordes of enemies completing the current objective. Sure most of the "difficult' fights consist of waiting for your opponent to open up a vulnerability and slash away, but I still found it enjoyable.
    The story is good enough to make me want to play the next mission, but I can't say it was ground breaking, it is Nintendo after all. If you're into the whole Zelda timeline thing, I have no idea where the hell this is supposed to fit in. I found the chapters where you get to play as Gannondorf to be especially enjoyable. I really want a Gannondorf: Rise to Power game now.

    Visually it was fine, I don't really get hung up on the graphics end of games, I'd rather have enjoyable playable content than worry about 30 extra pixels here and there.

I have not played a Dynasty Warriors game before, but I must say this game does make me ever so more interested in playing one.

    The graphics are decent. The textures of the scenery are quite dull and fuzzy, but character models are rather detailed judging the game's scale and the Wii U's impeccably hindered hardware. It's worth mentioning that the framerate is enjoyable smooth throughout which at this point is more ideal to me than a pretty game.

    Now let's go over some of the cons.

    Story, nothing to write home about. It is fairly standard and amusing enough for a traditional action game, but again I must review this to some extent as a Zelda game which leaves me with much to desire. The story is awfully bland and the narration is not fitting for the tone of the story. Not to mention the sexuality of some of the characters is unlike anything Nintendo has done in the past (minus the fairy in Ocarina of Time) and is disturbing to say the least.

    The game is also tremendously repetitive as many hack-n-slash style games are. Not much else to say in this regard.

    Overall, this game did surprise me in a good way. I had high hopes, and this game managed to impress me in the regards that I thought it would. The game is smooth, fun, and at times difficult. I am pleased to say that I would recommend this game to many action genre fans and Zelda fans alike, I just don't see this game worthy as a game of the year or really any award in that regard. I have received a fare share of play time throughout my play though of this game, and must add that the split-screen multiplayer is extremely fun albeit ugly.    … Expand

    It's a very nice game. But it won't keep you up late at night.
    Pros: fun to bash hundreds of enemies. Zelda fans will love the characters. Lots of playable characters. Colorful and immersive battlegrounds.
    Cons: the combos get repetitive and boring quite quickly. The frame rate is a bit chunky. Movement & animations are a bit abrupt. It looks better in the screenshots than it does in action.

The two player drops the frames incredibly (hitting 20 frames per second at some points) and frankly isn't that fun. I found adventure mode to be much more enjoyable and faster paced and since every challenge was different it stopped the game from getting stale. I loved all the characters and weapons you could unlock, I won't spoil it but there are some very unexpected and cool characters, including villains. Even with all of these features the game got stale very quick and I found myself bored of it in less than a week. I would say buy this game on sale, definitely not the worth the $60 I spent on it.    … Expand

    There's just so much you can do, it can almost be intimidating! The replayability is extremely high, there's hundreds upon hundreds of hours of stuff to do, lots of characters, tons of costumes to unlock, significantly awesome free DLC (alongside amazing paid DLC). If you like The Legend of Zelda, and the Dynasty Warriors series, you MUST play this game. Nothing beats stomping around as Ganon!

    The story is campy, that's the best way to describe it, it will make you laugh awkwardly, especially the villain Cia. The only reason she became evil was because she had the hots for Link, which is HILARIOUS!

    I loved everything about this game, what's unfortunate is after I beat it, I haven't played it since and I'm not sure why, there's plenty of content in addition to the main campaign, and the DLC is appropriate, worth it, and not needed to finish the game properly! I LOVE IT!

    Thirdly, the game is empty of content. Literally 1/5 of the content is locked behind DLC.
    Fourthly, the amount of antagonists and bosses is, well, pitiful. There are also like 5 legions: Hylians, Monsters, Undeads and two other legions that I can't even remember. The legions are also REALLY unbalanced, to get items to upgrade your characters you need to beat and collect certain items from specific legions, notably the worst must be the Hylian legions being 80% of the game allied with you and 5% of the game against you forcing ou to replay VERY SPECIFIC levels.
    Fifth, no custom matches, no multiplayer, nothing. It's really pure Dynasty Warrior without anything special to it.
    Lastly, the story is good at first, but more you play the game, more nonsensical it becomes.

    The unique up of this game is the gameplay, the game works as intended and the game can be fun as long as you play the story without having completed it. The music is excellent too.    … Expand

    To put this simply: fun game to play in co-op. in single player it gets bit boring. Story is... meh. But the game looks nice, plays nice and has voice acting from a hentai clip (imagine tentacles when you hear characters "speaking"). Good overall experience :)

    This is only to tell you that as much as I'll try to be objective, I might consider the game more    A little disclaimer on this game: I've been a huge fan of Dynasty Warriors and I've played all installments since 4, including the Xtreme legends and Empires versions while I'm not a huge fan of Legend of Zelda and besides Minish cap and Ocarina of time, I never actually played any others.

    This is only to tell you that as much as I'll try to be objective, I might consider the game more as a Dynasty Warriors rather than a Legend of Zelda.

    With that said, Hyrule Warriors is essentially Dynasty Warriors with the cast of Legend of Zelda, which means you can expect lots of deaths, ridiculous yet awesome combos, and the usual plot of defeating Ganondorf thanks to other characters from varioous episodes of Legend of Zelda such as Midna from Twilight Princess (the normal form is DLC), Sheik, Impa and Ruto from Ocarina of Time, and also some new characters for the game such as Lana (which is so japanese-like and reminds me of Hatsune Miku somehow) and new enemies such as Volga, Wizzro and Cia, while others are from separated games such as Ghirahim (Skyward sword) and Zant.

    Overall I really do love the different roster of characters as well as for their new models made for the game itself, with some being extremely well done and detailed (I love Zelda's outfit: it fits perfectly for a warrior princess, kudos to the artists!). Everyone is unique and some of them can use more than one weapon (Link can use the Hylian sword, magic staff and even Epona), potentially increasing even more the choice of characters.

    However as much as the cast of characters is varied and plentiful, it's not AS plentiful as a Dynasty Warrior game: by default you get 16 characters while the other are DLC and, according to the Wiki of Hyrule Warriors, there are 5 more to get (although for what I notice 2 of them aren't for free mode, but I can't be sure since I don't have them). The 16 characters you get are well made and some of them can use, as I said, different weapons to variate the gameplay but overall you're using the same character with different skillsets and special attack (Musou, for DW fans!). It is true that the 16 characters you get are well made and can be upgraded with levels, badges and stuff so there is stuff to do, but don't expect the biggest roster ever.

    For the gameplay size, you can choose DW and Legend of Zelda style at the beginning, but overall it's played as a DW game: huge maps where you get to do objectives while killing dozens of enemies on sight, eventually building your bar and unleash your special attack .You can't jump but instead you can dodge and lock on bosses, making this fighting system one of the best for 1vs1 combat ever. However, bosses have one big issue: they tend to have massive hp bars and in order to defeat them you MUST exploit their weakness points, which are shown with an exagon that appears over their head. Get that to zero and you remove a big chunk of their HP. Repeat that ad nauseam and you're done...and sadly this can become annoying really quickly sometimes. It requires some attention and if you're not abusing the weakness, it will take too long for actually beating them.

    The lock on at least helps you a lot in here and overall the dodge makes things very easy.

    Now a big issue as well is the enemies: it's not a surprise that DW used to have essentially one enemy copied and pasted to resemble an army. Well in this game is essentially that: enemies are all copies and lack any real difference, even the officers: all officers are the same, either lizards or ghosts, and your officers are either main characters or more armored soldiers. I won't deny that it DOES feels very cheap to certain points...but at the same time it makes the game run fast and without many slow downs, even on the mini screen of the pad.

    Another big problem is the complete lack of voice acting...and I don't understand why THIS game has no voice acting at all, especially when there's a voiced narrator at each mission. Seriously I don't understand the reason for not putting any voice acting at all. Is it because LoZ is still voiceless? Sorry but that's not a good reason to put no voice acting: grunts and moans aren't what I call good replacements for proper voice acting. Heck I'd be fine with japanese voice overs too, just SOMETHING! But no: apparently they let the LoZ lack of voice acting in here too and as much as this does not mine the gameplay or the story at all, it's still a missing detail that has no real reason except "Nostalgia".

    There is more content in Legend mode but that's sadly up to your patience to complete, as it's very repetetive.

    Overall, if you're a fan of LoZ you might "like" the game: it's definitely a great tribute to the game and I love the references of it, even if I rarely played many.

    But if you're a DW fan, you might love this game a lot, because it takes everything from DW and essentially gives a LoZ skin and still feels like a true DW game.

I did not expect to become immediately addicted to the game. My wife, who doesn't play action games at all, also became enamored with the game. I'm still slowly making my way through the Adventure Map alone, it's nice to have the extra content but playing through the Story Mode with my wife (a causal gamer) was an absolute blast.    … Expand

    Team Ninja, and Dynasty Warrior, mixed with Zelda? It works incredibly well, and it's surprisingly addictive. While the One Man against an Army type of game play usually bores me...Hyrule Warriors somehow creates an addicting experience, a mix with strategy and button masher. Better than you thought it is.

There isn't a whole lot of time to develop any characters aside from Cia and (debateably) Lana, and it practically relies on you already knowing who the other characters are. There's also several things to nitpick about it: where did Volga come from? Why didn't Ganondorf get more screen time? Why do they think they can surprise us by revealing Sheik's identity when anyone who played Super Smash Bros. or Ocarina of Time already knows? And most aggravating to me, why is Link still a silent protagonist? I get that it's for immersion purposes, but that immediately backfires because he has an iconic appearance and something of a personality. There's also the common complaint about these crossover games: it needed more characters from other Zelda games since only Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword are covered (though Majora's Mask is added through DLC). That, and it seems that some parts of the game were cut out and reserved for DLC like all the different costumes. Then of courses there's what many have touched upon: there's no online multiplayer. Don't get me wrong. There's plenty for you to do on your own, but there were definitely times when I wished I had a second player helping me out through some of the Adventure Mode battles.

    Now onto the positives, which there is a lot of. Gameplay-wise, it's mind-numbing and senseless, but satisfying as all hell. Mowing down wave after wave of enemies with just a few short combos makes for the ultimate power fantasy, but I also like the addition of the Weak Point Gauge which sometimes forces you to use strategy to deal maximum damage to your enemies. Strategy is a key feature of this game thanks to the keep system: lose a keep and you lose some of your defenses to your enemy and leave your base wide open to attack. Lose your base or a vital ally, and it's game over. This game forces you to multitask, and it's a perfect way to keep you on your toes as well as break up the monotony. The graphics are very nice and character designs are all really nice, and the characters themselves are perfectly tuned. There are no bad characters in Hyrule Warriors (in terms of gameplay); just characters that might take some time to get used to like Zant, Fi, and Agitha. Let's also not forget the fact that this game has a ton of stuff for you to do with both Story and Adventure Mode (and now Challenge Mode thanks to the most recently released DLC pack). And of course, like all Warriors games, the music is just bloody AWESOME!!!

    Now, is this game as good as some other Dynasty Warriors games? No. Hell, I still think Warriors Orochi 3 is better if only for the story and wider variety of characters. Is the upcoming Zelda for Wii U going to blow this game out of the water? Probably, but is this game going to help you eat away the days to that game much faster? Absolutely. It's not for everyone, of course, but I highly recommend that any Zelda fan at least give it a try. Have fun, and here's hoping for Hyrule Warriors 2 one day!    … Expand

    This game was very enjoyable. It has the dynasty warriors gameplay with a style of the legend of zelda. It seems like just a skin but ends up adding more to simple gameplay differences like the lock on system and the item system. This is a game that i would recommend to a wii u owner who likes beat-em-up games.

Even so, 2014 was home to some pretty great first-party Wii U games like "Mario Kart 8," "Bayonetta 2," and "Super Smash Bros. for Wii U" that made it a solid year to be a Wii U owner, even despite the long droughts between game releases and near-complete lack of third-party support. The one "black sheep" of the first-party Wii U games in 2014 (in that, the review scores were the lowest of the Wii U first-party titles) was "Hyrule Warriors," a combination of the "Dynasty Warriors" gameplay and the story/characters of "The Legend of Zelda." Odd combination, but it works pretty well overall.
    "Hyrule Warriors" has some pretty great things going for it: it's visually gorgeous, it's faithful to the Zelda series, the game controls well, the combat is solid, and the game is filled to the brim with fanservice that should make any "Legend of Zelda" fan excited. You can tell that the developers at Koei Tecmo are huge fans of the series, and their faithfulness to the original games shows in the final product.
    Unfortunately, the game is bogged down by one pretty large issue: repetitiveness. Though it starts off pretty fun when you are beating up enemies and destroying everyone in your path, it does get pretty stale after a while and it becomes kinda boring, even though the story and characters make it exciting. On top of that, the game doesn't really deviate much from the "Dynasty Warriors" formula, so aside from the "Zelda" coat of paint, it's nothing you haven't played before, which could be a bit of a turnoff to those that have played previous "Dynasty Warriors" games.
    All told, though, "Hyrule Warriors" is a good game (7 out of 10 is still "good" on my scale, even if Metacritic considers it "mixed") in its own right, and while it may not be worth a full-priced buy, it's still an enjoyable adventure for fans of the "Zelda" franchise.

    This is my first game involving zelda as I have been out of the nintendo game for s long time but I made sure I did plenty of research before I played the game isnt directly involved in the zelda timeline its more of a side story, it runs fine, looks OK but I found the soundtrack was poor and after about 10 hours I started to feel it was going on far too long and it becomes very repetitive

    Basically, you have 2 very important modes. The "story" mode and an "adventure" mode which consists of a maps loaded with levels that follow the layout of the original Zelda game, unlocking content as you beat these maps. The gameplay has you playing as various Zelda characters, using huge moves to wipe out massive hordes of monsters. You have capture points that you're trying to take over as you go. The gameplay is fun, though it can be a bit "mindless" (it does require some strategy and thought). Eventually you're trying to overwhelm the enemy and kill the map boss.

    Sound simple? It is pretty straight forward. Why is this game so amazing then? It's polished, very fun to play, but most importantly, the ENDLESS unlockables! Each character levels up to 255, they all have varied weapons, there's a loot system, a badge system which is a bit like a skill system, potion making, and all kinds of fun RPG type elements. There are costumes to unlock, heart containers to gather, skulltulas to kill, and on and on. I don't know that I've ever seen this much content jammed into a game.
    I'm about 75 hours in, and I'm not even 25% into unlocking all the content.

    When you want to relax to some relatively mindless gameplay, and still have a deep "reward" mechanism with unlockables, this game is fantastic. Perfect after a long day at the office.    … Expand

    I never played a Dynasty Warriors game prior to Hyrule Warriors. In fact if not for the Zelda skin I am not sure if I would like Dynasty Warriors. But it is that Zelda skin that hooked me. Not only that but Hyrule Warriors manages to weave a interesting story that feels like a proper Zelda story. Seeing hordes of moblins, bokoblins, gorons, and zoras is like a dream come true. TheI never played a Dynasty Warriors game prior to Hyrule Warriors. In fact if not for the Zelda skin I am not sure if I would like Dynasty Warriors. But it is that Zelda skin that hooked me. Not only that but Hyrule Warriors manages to weave a interesting story that feels like a proper Zelda story. Seeing hordes of moblins, bokoblins, gorons, and zoras is like a dream come true. The selection of heroes is fantastic with new characters like Lana feeling entirely unique. Ever want to play as Agitha from Twilight Princess? You can do that. Ever want to pull the moon from Majora's Mask down ontop of your foes? You can do that. Ever want to lay waste to everything as Ganondorf? You can do that too. It can get repetitive at times as can any Warriors title from what I hear. But its a great mashup of two series that provide an interesting experience.

Not that it makes any difference, trying to use creative combos usually just puts you in a bad position. To top it all off, the graphics just aren't good; I love the art design and soundtrack, but the game looks like it belongs on a handheld. As a fan of both Zelda and Warriors, I REALLY want to love this game, but honestly I can't recommend this; it's just a mediocre entry in both franchises.… Expand

    Great graphics, good game play. The weaker AI is very dumb but it's fun slaughtering hoards of them, it can get a little repetitive though. The 2 player co-op is nice but it does have graphical down grade from the single player. I personally hate Zelda games but have enjoyed Hyrule Warriors

While it's not that great as far as Zelda games go, it's still pretty solid gameplaywise.     Hyrule Warriors is a must for Zelda and Dynasty fans. It's rammed with content, decent and well priced DLC and an addictive nature that keeps you coming back for more.

    Como fan de la saga Zelda, me precipité al comprar este juego, ya que no es un Zelda al uso y lo único que tiene de la saga es la ambientación. Es un juego de pegar espadazos a tutiplén a miles de enemigos en el cual tienes que conseguir conquistar el bastión del rival. Tiene unas fases que de promedio duran unos 40 minutos de espadazos, que para mi gusto son eternas.

    + Tons and tons of content
    + Fun gameplay
    + Extremely challenging missions in adventure mode.
    + The new characters added to the game are pretty cool (Lana, Cia, Volga, Wizzro)
    + Easy to learn controls.

    - Not so good AI
    - Your team is useless
    - Little variety in battlefields
    - Extremely annoying giant bosses
    - Loads of grinding
    - Medals(basically achievements) that are blanked out so you don`t know how to get it without a guide.    … Expand

    There are a lot of Zelda characters to play as (from the good side or the bad side) plenty of unlockable weapons, character upgrades etc and plenty of further gameplay via DLC. One of my favourite touches is the co-op play on all modes of the game (one uses the TV, the other plays on gamepad). My partner and I can play this into the late hours of night and generally such 'fighting' games are not her cup of tea! We have been slowly leveling up the characters and have about 4 above level 100. Its a great twist to need to upgrade all characters evenly to ensure certain levels are possible to complete where certain challenges are locked to say Link only (although player 2 may use whoever they wish)
    Sure, the gameplay may get a bit repetitive and ultimately, its just about unlocking more stuff as you go through...but we are still playing this game two years on and have found the game to have a very strong replay value to it. Worth a go!    … Expand

A few bosses and situations with tense time limits will force the player to get experimental with the combat, which in my opinion is where the extent of the combat shines through, and proves itself to be actually quite fleshed out, but due to the relatively easy nature of the game on the two easier difficulties, there is no reason to ever attempt to exploit the combat to your advantage. Even on the two harder difficulties, the AI is extremely lazy, and will barely force the player to use many of the systems involved in the combat, and as a result the game felt very surface-level to me. There is something to be said, however, for the ridiculous fun of slicing through hordes of enemies one after another. The characters never seem to take anything too seriously, which I like because it adds an element of cheesiness that this game uses to its advantage extremely well, through the monotone narration that I thought was hilarious, to the amazing rock remixes of classic Zelda songs. That's not to mention the amount of fan service there is. From references to key characters, to the menu icons, there's a lot of little details for Zelda fans to notice. Watching the Deku Tree crush a horde of Bokoblins to death is hilarious and something that no Zelda fan should go without. Yet in doing this, the game isolates non-Zelda fans. People who don't know much about the Zelda franchise or chronology won't nearly like this game as much as Zelda fans, and my problem with this game is that it relies too heavily on the 'Zelda' in its name for enjoyment. For fans of the series, this game could be a hilarious combination of everything they love with some simple, satisfying combat to back it up, but for people who don't care about the franchise, then this game is dumb fun for a few hours before they put it down and never pick it up again, so Hyrule Warriors is going to get a 4 out of 10.… Expand

    A beautiful culmination of all things Zelda, Hyrule Warriors is definitely worth a try. Its beat 'em up play style is certainly different, but extremely fun. But don't expect much more from the game than fun, but don't be angry for it either. Sadly Hyrule Warriors does lose its novelty rather quickly, as I found myself only clearing 3 stages. But its a fun game to come back to nevertheless

It's well worth buying, but I don't suggest paying for the DLC content.

    All of the DLC characters have no impact on the maps, storyline or challenges at all. Due to this, it's fun to tinker with them, but much more worth the time to work on the original characters. The other issue with the DLC is the difficulty. I like a challenging game, but some of the maps are just absurd like any enemy does 8 hearts of damage, but you have to kill a thousand of them over a ten-minute span and never get hit or you don't get the A rank and can't unlock the next board on the map.

    This game is also super-grindy. You eventually get the best boards unlocked to grind with, but to get every character up to the level needed for the DLC hard ones, you are adding a solid 50 hours of gameplay of doing the same few boards.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Hyrule Warriors is a fantastic combination of Dynasty Warriors' hack and slash and the legend of Zelda's characters. The story is excellent and far more detailed than I initially expected with great music too.

    I loved the inclusion of the main characters of Ocarina of Time, Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess and was even more excited when the main villains: Ganondorf, Zant and Ghirahim all "teamed up" at the climax of the story.

    The new characters: Lana and Cia are also great and add more detail and development to the story too. The customisation of weaponry and a skill tree help add more variety to the game too making an already great experience, even better!

    My only problem is the lack of voice acting (which has now been introduced into the Legend of Zelda series) and the story (which could have a bit more detail and length).

    Adventure mode is fantastic though so while the hero mode is shorter than I would have liked, the mode variety is definitely good.

    Hyrule Warriors is a great game and I'd love to see more of this kind of stuff with other Nintendo series like Star Fox, Kirby or Xenoblade for example.    … Expand

    The combat was fun and the characters were all very different to use. My favourite character to use was either Gannon or Zant. Some of the missions did get a bit tedious as you are essentially just mashing buttons a lot of the time. The bosses were somewhat cool. A fun game but did not do much.

    With a rocking soundtrack, loads of content, plenty of fan service and some clever gelling of two disparate video game universes, Hyrule Warriors is easily my favourite game of 2014 so far.
