I’ll be honest, this game isn’t full on terrible as I thought. I think it’s serviceable, just not good. The story, while it wasn’t original, is good enough, so are the character designs. I also thought it was interesting how a company like Nintendo, a company that doesn’t usually do stuff this mature, was keen on publishing this game (despite the lack of faith). I know it wasn’t the first time they did it, we got Eternal Darkness and Geist on the GameCube, but still. Overall, not bad, but far from good. If this was released during the Xbox 360 era, it could've been better. Expand

The greatest merit of this game is the combination of hack and slash mechanics with those of a third person shooter. It's not a bad game, but also not remarkable one.

Thx, Mr. Itagaki. This game is not a **** like critis said, it's an understimeted great experience. I simply love the swipe from tps and action and the solo story mode is great.
I hope u can make a second chapter with more things and hopefully better framerate(the only one thing gone wrong).
Anyway, hasta la vista Itagaki san

I´d rate 7,5. It´s a pretty good "B" type action game. Of course it is dump, but i had a lot of fun playing it. If there wasn´t so many FPS drops, i´d give 8/10. Don´t let critics fool you, it is a really good and fun game.

It's a pretty odd game. Tomonobu Itagaki of Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive fame brings us a game that feels like a combination of Call of Duty and the hack and slash genre. Dated design and crappy multiplayer do hurt the overall package, but they don't ruin it. It's single-player offering is unique and fun enough to keep things going.

Remarkably the game ends up being more shooter than hack and slash. So much so that the melee combat ends up feeling like an afterthought. I would find myself chopping up enemies here and there, but primarily stuck to using my blade (or whatever other melee weapon I was using) for the bosses. The hybrid first and third-person shooting mechanics work well. It's melee combat, while good, hearkens back to the hack and slash games of yesteryear, as do the graphics.

Throughout the course of the campaign you'll make your way through locations, scenarios, and a plot that only add to that Call of Duty feel, which isn't a bad thing. Part of what makes the game so enjoyable is that it's unique. As far as the boss battles go they really do fit the hack and slash side of things. Outside of some cheap, random one-hit kills that literally come out of nowhere these encounters can be a lot of fun. The game mixes things up from time to time with some sections that break away from the standard shooting and stabbing.

Overall the campaign is very fun, despite having dated mechanics and a confused narrative. However a cool lead character and sense of style make the already unique and enjoyable gameplay even easier to stick with. There are some minor frustrations here and there, but I very much enjoyed the campaign. The same can't be said about the multiplayer.

The same combination of gun and swordplay are here. However the looser controls online make the gunplay a mess and the melee is practically useless without the right weapon(s). Your gear really can affect your performance. It's one of the biggest issues the multiplayer has. Skill can still win the day, but it's not hard to see that those with better weapons do have a significant advantage. With some microtransaction being slipped into the game for this, it's not hard to want to jump ship.

The only way it will really keep you coming back is if the Wii U is your only system. However even with the Wii U's relative lack of options in the multiplayer department, there are still better options. The combat is just too loose and it's an almost dead experience anyway. The only matches I found were in the free-for-all mode.

While the multiplayer falls flat on it's face the single-player campaign makes Devil's Third worth playing. Yes, it's dated, but it still stands out as one of the most unique, interesting, and most importantly fun games I've played in the Wii U. Tomonobu Itagaki may not have revolutionized the hack and slash genre, but his willingness to merge it with another still makes it noteworthy. The campaign is a lot of fun and makes Devil's Third worth a look for the older Wii U owners. It is rated M after all.

There are bosses (except Molotov) that can kill you instantly in one or two hits and that's playing in "STANDARD MODE". This game will definitely test your skill and patience.

The plot is like a B-movie action flick with the typical Eastern European over-the-top protagonist (Ivan) but it's very self-aware. It's like a parody of all action flicks you've ever watched. The hybrid mechanic of third person hack n' slash and first person shooter works just fine, you just need to know when to use it.

Note: If you're on "EASY" mode you can button-mash and shoot away all you like even on boss fights. It's not supposes to be played that way there are certain timing on every move/attack.

Like Itakagi San said, this game is not for the unskilled gamers. Its mechanics is very old-school, no healing item (auto-healing ala CoD), no extra life, skill-based in-your-face hardcore game. It's definitely a winner to me and I know there are gamers out there who likes punishing games. Graphics is not top notch but still good. I've read and watched a lot of complains about glitches which to me is very minor and I think comparing it to PS2 graphics is just plain mean. Nonetheless it's a fun romp and a very hard one. You should give it a try.

If there's a game that fits perfectly as a kusoge (the term that Japanese gamers use for terrible games), Devil's Third is definitely one of a kind. Itagaki's experiment is a total failure in all of game's aspects: bad gameplay mechanics, terrible narrative and poor graphics make this title something to avoid.
