Probably Devil's Third won't be a masterpiece or a great game but it was really underestimated. The game-play is fast, well paced and controls aren't that pain in the neck. There are signs of a troubled development and the mix between tps and melee action could have used more work, but we are far from the crazy 2/10 or 4/10 critics are giving to this game. It's worth a try.

Its Boring, repetitive, and glitchy. Everything about the game screams mediocre. People said multiplayer is the game's saving grace but it's only fun for an hour or two. Save your money and buy phantom pain.

It's very difficult to give this game a score cause it contains 2 parts which aren't on the same level. Please read till the last line to understand my rating.

Singleplayer: In my personal opinion it's entertaining to play it. But it has balancing issues. Sometimes it's hard as hell, sometimes a piece of cake. Sometime the KI has lapse. Nothing game breaking or annoying but noticeable.

    Singleplayer:
In my personal opinion it's entertaining to play it. But it has balancing issues. Sometimes it's hard as hell, sometimes a piece of cake. Sometime the KI has lapse. Nothing game breaking or annoying but noticeable. I found one bug where I wasn't able to pick up a weapon. If the action on the screen gets very chaotic the game has some frame drops. The levels are very linear. Overall: If you give Sonic Boom a 4 out of 10 and Sinic Boom was glitchy and boring then Devil's Third is easy a 5.5 out of 10.

    Multiplayer:
No lags, full servers, unlockables, lot of weapons and maps, clan system, different modes, leveling system. This part of the game rocks as hell. Only let down are the microtransaction for styling gimmicks. You can buy golden eggs. But you also get them for leveling up. Overall I would give a 8.5 out of 10.

Now, what's weighting more? You spent maybe 7h with the singleplayer and uncountable hours with the multiplayer. It's the same with Battlefield or CoD. I never cared about the singleplayer in those games. So if you red my review till here you can maybe now understand why I give this game a 7.5 out of 10.

I'd give this game a 7.5 or an 8.. cool game.. if you have a wiiu and see this for 28 bucks or less like I did.. pick it up and give it a go..

Fun game, with a really nice and intense gameplay. The ingle player mode have a good story, charismatic characters and a lot of jokes. The score attack makes it replayable. The multiplayer have enough options and game modes to be funny and interesting a lot of time. The only bad about the game are the typical Unreal 3 issues. Some slow to load textures and that kind of things.

Like Duke Nukem Forever, I expected this game to get bashed just because it looks a little dated. The critics are first in line to jump on the game for looking dated. It's too bad they can't even play the game right or blame it for being too hard and frustrating. Devil's Third is a solid action game created by Tomonobu Itagaki and his team. It's good. End of story.

The multi player is fantastic.. customizable characters, load outs, fortresses and clans in fact the only problem with it is there occasionally aren't enough people online but even then you can always find something to do.. And for all those people who say it's pay to win.. you can pay to get golden eggs but I honestly don't see why anyone would.. you gain 30 at the start of the game.. 20 for beating the single player and another 20 for finding the war trophies.. so in about 5 hours you should already have 70 golden eggs and if you can't make a good enough load up or get equipment to be competitive with that you suck at the game.. I'm already level 71.. no micro transactions used up the first golden eggs I got then you earn more as you level up currectly a ninja assassin in tiger cammo with a cats head and have earnt so many extra eggs I don't know what to do with them. Multi player gets a 8.5 so overall I'd rate this game a 7.5.. loads of fun but flawed..

There are bosses (except Molotov) that can kill you instantly in one or two hits and that's playing in "STANDARD MODE". This game will definitely test your skill and patience.

The plot is like a B-movie action flick with the typical Eastern European over-the-top protagonist (Ivan) but it's very self-aware. It's like a parody of all action flicks you've ever watched. The hybrid mechanic of third person hack n' slash and first person shooter works just fine, you just need to know when to use it.

Note: If you're on "EASY" mode you can button-mash and shoot away all you like even on boss fights. It's not supposes to be played that way there are certain timing on every move/attack.

Like Itakagi San said, this game is not for the unskilled gamers. Its mechanics is very old-school, no healing item (auto-healing ala CoD), no extra life, skill-based in-your-face hardcore game. It's definitely a winner to me and I know there are gamers out there who likes punishing games. Graphics is not top notch but still good. I've read and watched a lot of complains about glitches which to me is very minor and I think comparing it to PS2 graphics is just plain mean. Nonetheless it's a fun romp and a very hard one. Dated design and crappy multiplayer do hurt the overall package, but they don't ruin it. It's single-player offering is unique and fun enough to keep things going.

Remarkably the game ends up being more shooter than hack and slash. So much so that the melee combat ends up feeling like an afterthought. I would find myself chopping up enemies here and there, but primarily stuck to using my blade (or whatever other melee weapon I was using) for the bosses. The hybrid first and third-person shooting mechanics work well. It's melee combat, while good, hearkens back to the hack and slash games of yesteryear, as do the graphics.

Throughout the course of the campaign you'll make your way through locations, scenarios, and a plot that only add to that Call of Duty feel, which isn't a bad thing. Part of what makes the game so enjoyable is that it's unique. As far as the boss battles go they really do fit the hack and slash side of things. Outside of some cheap, random one-hit kills that literally come out of nowhere these encounters can be a lot of fun. The game mixes things up from time to time with some sections that break away from the standard shooting and stabbing.

Overall the campaign is very fun, despite having dated mechanics and a confused narrative. However a cool lead character and sense of style make the already unique and enjoyable gameplay even easier to stick with. There are some minor frustrations here and there, but I very much enjoyed the campaign. The same can't be said about the multiplayer.

The same combination of gun and swordplay are here. However the looser controls online make the gunplay a mess and the melee is practically useless without the right weapon(s). Your gear really can affect your performance. It's one of the biggest issues the multiplayer has. Skill can still win the day, but it's not hard to see that those with better weapons do have a significant advantage. With some microtransaction being slipped into the game for this, it's not hard to want to jump ship.

The only way it will really keep you coming back is if the Wii U is your only system. However even with the Wii U's relative lack of options in the multiplayer department, there are still better options. The combat is just too loose and it's an almost dead experience anyway. The only matches I found were in the free-for-all mode.

While the multiplayer falls flat on it's face the single-player campaign makes Devil's Third worth playing. Yes, it's dated, but it still stands out as one of the most unique, interesting, and most importantly fun games I've played in the Wii U. Tomonobu Itagaki may not have revolutionized the hack and slash genre, but his willingness to merge it with another still makes it noteworthy. The campaign is a lot of fun and makes Devil's Third worth a look for the older Wii U owners. It is rated M after all.

    Nope.
Devil's Third has a lot of good ideas, but none of them are executed well. The "high paced action" is nothing but a mess, the graphics look like they belong on the Playstation 2, and the single player campaign is one of the most terrible experiences i've ever seen. This game is a lot better than the critics would have you believe. It's not a masterpiece but it isn't a 44/100 either. I like the combat switching between edged weapons and guns. The enemy A.I. leaves a little to be desired at times. Sad this game will do poorly just because the critics tanked it.

    A simple honest review

Devils third singleplayer? well what can I say.... its shoddy, looks like it was put together without any major thought into the development boss battles are very dull, and frame rate drops are horrible. That being said, the single player wasn't terrible. its one of those single player games where you have your mates over for a few beers and laugh at how gory yet

That being said, the single player wasn't terrible. its one of those single player games where you have your mates over for a few beers and laugh at how gory yet hilariously put together. The sudden changes in Ivan and the slow-mo decapitations make it a bearable campaign.

    Campaign score 5.5/10

Multi player however is the winning factor for this game

You can tell from the start that this was the part of the game the developers wanted you to play. straight from the get go you are able to have a wide array of weapons and customizable character appeal ranging from a ninja suit to a a full cardboard box armour with a cat helmet. which is highly amusing when your cutting down ur foes with a katana, or if you like me being the one getting killed by the katana. The game modes are different and fresh, for example one gamemode sees you throwing watermelons into a massive blender while stopping the other team throwing their watermelons. Another one sees you in a CQC with melee weapon only leaving for a lot of mess and carnage. For all these pros these prose they are some cons. I have found that snipers can bit quite overpowered in most maps and that can cause a problem for the balance needed in most multiplayer shooters . Not only this but I found the siege mode quite confusing. I cant spoil too much but you are thrown straight into the deep end and would adivse you to be a mercenary for the first few games in order to get too grips.

Multiplayer rating 7.7 out of 10

    Graphics:

Not much to say here a very troubled development that went through many engines

    5.8/10

    Conclusion:

Overall I am enjoying the experience. I cant say I recommend the single player, but the multi-player is a blast so if your looking for a game that will amuse you for hours on end and can withstand the not so brilliant graphics and the occasional frame rate drops this is that game.

Its not a system seller but if you can get it for under 25£ you are getting a steal!!!

Gave a 10 to get the average score higher. However I would give it a 7. Game is certainly good fun and reviewed unfairly. Ok first off, the game is indeed rough around the edges. The framerate shows that this game was clearly rushed althought it has been in development for so long. Also, the enemy AI is not as good as it should have been and don't expect anything mindblowing from this gameGave a 10 to get the average score higher. However I would give it a 7. But the reviews from the "big" videogame websites are way way way too harsh. When you read these reviews the game appears to be unplayable and one of the worst games since Superman 64. I can confirm this i absolutely NOT the case. THe game actually plays great. The controls are responsive and the shooting mechanics are well implemented. The sword gameplay becomes a bit repetitive but reminded me of Ninja Gaiden with some challenging bossfights. The story is quite fun and Ivan is a great protagonist. The multiplayer is fun, however I have not yet played it very extensively. THe graphics are nothing mind blowing, but it runs on UE3 so its not that bad. Actually, when the game DOES run smoothly you really see the potential of the game.

To conclude, this game is treated unfairly imho. Ok its not perfect but giving it a 10, 20 or 30 is absolute BS. I admit I had fun with the single player and if you are looking for an entertaining shooter and something different than your Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon multiplayer, I happily recommend this game to you.

    I would give the game a 7

The graphics are good, the character models are brilliant, probably the best character models on the Wii U. The game play does feel like an outdated arcade game, but that's a good thing. The game reminds me of a better era in gaming, before video games tried to be blockbuster hollywood movies. The story is reasonable bad, but who cares if I wanted a good story I would pick up a book. The boss fights are challenging. The frame rate is good, the frame rate dips are rare and very short, heck it runs better than the Witcher 3 PS4. This game is worth the purchase, for a few reasons to see how much the reviewers suck, it'll probably go up in value and it's a blast. The bats do suck though. Expand

The story, while it wasn’t original, is good enough, so are the character designs. I also thought it was interesting how a company like Nintendo, a company that doesn’t usually do stuff this mature, was keen on publishing this game (despite the lack of faith). I know it wasn’t the first time they did it, we got Eternal Darkness and Geist on the GameCube, but still. Overall, not bad, but far from good. If there's a game that fits perfectly as a kusoge (the term that Japanese gamers use for terrible games), Devil's Third is definitely one of a kind. Itagaki's experiment is a total failure in all of game's aspects: bad gameplay mechanics, terrible narrative and poor graphics make this title something to avoid.

If somehow, Nintendo thinks due to the price gouging, people want this and they restock it, wait for a price drop.
