Yoshi's Crafted World is a nice idea and an interesting art style. It's a classic jump and run game, altough it's not very innovative.

Also the progression system is fair regarding the flowers. It's not like in other Mario games, where you really need to grind for those. The flowers are the equivalent to stars/suns in other mario games, which you need to collect to be able to progress.
Some levels are 'special levels', where you have different challenges, like riding a dino, destroy things, or jumping through rings. They are fun.
The co-op multiplayer was not that good. You stand in each other's way all the time.
All in all it is an okay game, for adults it's like one of dozens games you have already played.

The characters, the life and detail in the world, the gameplay, all 10/10. You can tell that a lot of genuine love and care went into making this game

TLDR/Most memorable aspects of this game after spending hundreds of hours playing:

(*) This is HANDS DOWN the best couch co-op game on the Switch.

(*) There is an amazing amount of variety in the worlds/environments. Each with their own feel, their own theme, and their own types of enemies - which amounts to subtle changes in the gameplay that keeps you from ever getting bored from start to finish.

(*) The boss of each area were all uniquely challenging, impeccably designed, and very memorable.

(*) You can feel that there was a lot of care and attention put into the level design. You can clearly feel that the developers of this game are gamers themselves, and know what's fun. - The level design in this game is the ANTITHESIS of procedural level generation.

(*) Levels slowly and consistently ramp up in difficulty with absolutely no spikes.

(*) Enough content for both younger/newer players as well as grizzled veterans like this reviewer. (There is almost an equal amount of content for each!)

(*) Tons of unlockable cosmetic items that are actually earned IN-GAME instead of micro transactions! (What a refreshing, novel concept that you don't see these days!)

(*) Graphically, this is only time on Nintendo Switch I've seen anything incredibly close to photo-realism. - Complete with a consistently high framerate that never stops or stutters.

(*) I lost track of the number of times I smiled and laughed at one of the many THOUSANDS of amazingly detailed objects in the background/foreground.

This is arguably the BEST game on the Nintendo Switch as of early 2023. Even if one can argue that perhaps there's a better game than this on the Switch, it's irrefutable that this is the best Yoshi title of the entire bunch, dating all the way back to Yoshis Island on SNES.

Speaking of Yoshi's Island on SNES, there are so many nods and references to that 1995 game, that it almost feels like this was made by many of the same developers. The developers were incredibly faithful to all of the Yoshi games (even Yoshi Cookie!) This is an absolute MUST-OWN game, even ahead of every Mario game released thus far. - Mark my words... Yoshi's Crafted World will be remembered decades from now as a classic, and possibly even the pinnacle of what a Yoshi game can be.

It's a nice looking game but that doesn't make up for the boring collectathon gameplay. There's no flow, you literally just have to check everywhere for collectibles and if you fail a timed challenge you have to die to do it over. Same with DK tropical freeze, the amazing game play of the originals is forgotten.

A couple of levels into this game I thought it was delightful. The effect wore off after about five or six chapters. The music and Yoshi's sound effects being repetitive contribute to that. The gameplay itself is not really shocking either. The graphics and the chill art style are cool, but maybe like "play a chapter every once in a while during a mellow high" kind of cool.

The multiplayer just does not work. The area that the screen covers is too small and does not adapt to how big the environment is. When someone moves ahead of the other player, the other person can just get stuck. This happens all the time. In say, Mario 3D World or Kirby's Epic Yarn, if someone is behind, they turn into a little bubble and float where they're supposed to be. There's no easy way to trigger this in Crafted World.

You also randomly land on the other player, and get stuck on top of them. This is supposed to be a cooperative function, but it's an obstacle. When another player is on top, the bottom player can't throw eggs. This is really annoying, especially because there are timed sections of each level where you have to throw eggs at a target within so many seconds. If the other player is in the way, the eggs won't hit their target. It's obvious that the two-player mode was an afterthought.

It's also a pain to just start the game in two player mode. You have to go into the options and select it, press the L+R buttons on both controllers, then go into a different menu to pick your character. There's no prompt when you start playing whether there should be two players or not. Maybe this is compounded by a problem specific to the Nintendo Switch. In the other consoles, you would just press the A button on the controller and the system would know how many players there were.

Lastly, there are never enough eggs. Often there's a cloud you have to hit with an egg, and there's no nearby way to get eggs - no bad guys, no plants, no blocks - unless you go backward like three screens. You have to be constantly saving up eggs for some unforeseen use. Also in the multiplayer mode, the other player can randomly take your eggs and vice versa. This makes no sense and I have no idea how to avoid it.

The main issue is the repetition of the stages. To get all the flowers in the level you will need to get special items. Instead of giving you a list of the special items in one level in one shot, you will have to get the item, return the item and go through the stage AGAIN to get the next item. Worst part is some items are unfairly hidden and a chore to find.

The reason I’m only giving this a 6 is because of the souvenirs, the sprout boxes, And the bad egg aim, the souvenirs and sprouts were tedious and boring to find. They weren’t fun whatsoever. It’s not like they were just a few bad things here and there. They take up a massive chunk of the game, meaning, I strongly disliked a massive chunk of it. That really takes away from the enjoyment of the game. The kamek fight was hard to beat, not because it was challenging, but because it was annoying. The times where you can hit kamek with an egg are so short and annoying. How do you expect me to hit him when massive pencils are falling down from the sky taking up a lot of the screen and my egg aimer is slow and terrible all without taking damage. Poor design. Half of this game was fun, half of it sucked. Expand

The soundtrack it self is a annoying and makes you wanna turn off the volume completely. At least the level design still shows it self by having good backtracking segments and terrible ones, the good one is that you basically go to older levels but this time you have to find the missing dogs but here is the catch it’s backwards and it works amazingly. However the terrible ones are where you go back to the levels and find some stupid useless things to get stupid rewards which mean nothing. At least the bosses are actually really damn good, also the story is simple and funny. Yoshi’s Crafted World tries to be unique and it does with it’s awesome levels and gameplay, but has big issues like The soundtrack and how many times you have to go back to a level to complete so useless quest, overall a great 2D platfromer that is unique and creative. Overly simplistic. Other Yoshi titles display challenging platforming and enthusiastic level design, where Crafted World is tediously linear, unexciting, uninspired. The art design is excellent and adorable, as always, but the game leaves me pining for Wooly World's or Yoshi's Island's (SNES, DS titles even) challenge and wonder.

The visuals are amazing, level design and mechanics are great too, and the game is just bursting with creativity and care. I found myself becoming addicted to collecting all the Smiley Flowers, and almost never found that the game was trying to stretch my play time, due to the levels having great replay value thanks to the Flip-Side mechanic. Music and bosses (expect for the final one) are lacking in my opinion.

My biggest fear entering the game is that it would be too easy, however, the game filled almost this niche role in my life. The difficulty is not that challenging, but it became this game I would play whenever I needed to relax after a long day, and discovering every little collectible was a feel-good moment.

For what it is, Yoshi's Crafted World is a great game and I recommend it to any Nintendo Switch owner.

I almost feel like I'm having déjà vu right now: I mentioned this previously in my review of "Yoshi's Woolly World," but check this out: that game was announced (in 2013), was later a no-show at an E3 (also in 2013), but despite skepticism resurfaced (in 2014) and finally saw release two years after it was initially announced (it came out in 2015). Now for "Yoshi's Crafted World," it was announced (in 2017), was later a no-show at an E3 (in 2018), but despite skepticism resurfaced (also in 2018) and finally saw release two years after it was initially announced (it came out this year, 2019). Kinda bizarre, huh? But there's something else that these two games have in common: that all the wait for them and all the questions of "where did they go?" only kind of dampened the final game.
"Yoshi's Crafted World" is far from being a bad game: after all, it's an extremely adorable and visually beautiful platformer. It's light, colorful, and extremely charming. The visuals are creative, the soundtrack is lovely, and the game succeeds at just being a nice, feel-good platformer. It's easy to get into, it controls well, tries to do something kind of different (with the whole "switching of perspectives" thing), and this amounts to what is a very relaxing game. Oh, and side note, as someone that absolutely loves Poochy and thinks he's such an adorable character, you'll be seeing him and his pups a lot in the game, which is awesome.
Unfortunately, this leads to one of my many problems with the game: it's almost too relaxed and too easy, and while "Yoshi" games are never the most difficult, it often felt like the game just didn't care about trying to challenge you. Furthermore, the game doesn't quite use the new ideas and switched perspectives as strongly as it could've, leading to an experience that, to me, felt a bit too same-y compared to "Yoshi's Woolly World." There were several points where I'd forgotten I was playing a different game, and I thought I was just playing a Switch port of "Woolly World." And furthermore, it's kind of disappointing to me that the level design doesn't really start getting interesting until it's too late in the game. By the time we get into the game's more interesting levels, we're on the last world, and that's just kinda unfortunate.
All in all, as a Nintendo fan, I'm glad to see that critics and audiences are enjoying "Yoshi's Crafted World." I'm happy to see that it's selling well, and that it's doing its part to help contribute to the Switch's success. I just wish I could enjoy the game in the same way that others have. It's a nice, decent experience, but this is another situation where the long wait and speculation led to heightened expectations that the finished product just couldn't quite match. If you're a hardcore "Yoshi" fan or if you have kids, it will certainly be a great time. For me? It was just fine. Nothing amazing, nothing terrible, just an okay little adventure with the iconic green dinosaur.
Final rating: 6 out of 10 "Decent"

In many ways though crafted world falls short of the usual nintendo glory. The game is not terrible by any means, but Yoshi games in the future have a lot to learn.

Yoshi is as love-able as ever in crafted world, but his charm only goes so far. That being said, everything in crafted world is love-able; and even though I love the artstyle in crafted world, I do hope yoshi is done with cardboard and yarn for now.

What hurts crafted world more than anything is the games scope. Its very apparent that the developers were trying to make a cute yoshi game and nothing else. I'm a believer in developers aiming high on games and I just want more from yoshi. The yarn and cardboard aesthetics are cute but thats about it.

The game has virtually no challenge. Sure you won't beat this game without dying, but the game is in no way trying to be punishing. I don't want dark souls yoshi, but these levels— while fun and creative— lack in challenge.

Yoshi is an awesome character, one of many nintendo fans favorites. We can only hope the developers aim higher with the next yoshi game instead of giving more of the same.

Keine Ahnung was sich Entwickler dabei denken.

The gameplay is pretty standard: go through each level and find all the collectibles. If you're the type who enjoys finding absolutely everything, then there is plenty here for you to find. The visuals are truly unique due to everything being "crafted": objects are taped together, environments use carboard boxes and strings, colors are vibrant and it all comes together to make a fantastic, charming experience.

The music, I found, is incredibly lacking. Most levels will feature the same soundtrack with a few different ones here and there; however, even those I found to be mediocre. Every level, mini boss, and boss are very easy and don't offer much of a challenge; but, despite the lack of challenge, Yoshi's Crafted World is incredibly fun and I think that matters most.

All in all, if you own a Switch, and can't decide to pick this one up, don't hesitate and have a blast with this welcome addition to the series.

Yoshi's Crafted World is another adorable, stylish, family-friendly platformer from the developer behind Kirby's Epic Yarn, and Yoshi's Wooly World. I had a lot of fun with it but ultimately felt Good-Feel back-peddled a little bit from Wooly World.

Yoshi's Wooly World was clearly channeling Yoshi's Island for the SNES but Crafted World is much closer to Yoshi's Story for the N64. It's still a side-scroller but you're occasionally able to go forwards and backwards into the environment. It's extremely limited, unfortunately and left me yearning for a true 3D Yoshi. The other way in which this game resembles Yoshi's Story is that it's much less focused on platforming and more focused on exploration and puzzle solving. This gives Crafted World a much more relaxed feeling than every Yoshi game that's come before. Unfortunately, this relaxed gameplay combined with the lack of challenge makes it hard to stay engaged with Crafted World. I played through the entire game in 2-player with my roommate and we generally only played for an hour or two before getting bored. The difficulty thankfully does escalate so give it a few hours to pick up steam. If you've played the demo, you'll know what I'm talking about. It is thankfully not THAT easy for its entireity. One great addition is the costumes. Like Mario Odyssey, you now accumulate money between stages, which can be used to purchase costumes for Yoshi.

Unfortunately, the main way in which Crafted World takes a step back is with its 100% quest. While Wooly World on the Wii U had me playing to 100% completion with a sensible amount of optional collectibles, Crafted World immediately drowns you in collectibles and dull side-missions. Every level has 5-10 flowers in the open, as well as flowers for obtaining all 20 red-coins, finishing the level at full-health, 4 more for playing each level in reverse, as well as hide-and-seek objectives I never participated in. It's absolute overkill, requiring you to play stages over and over and over that will only draw the most dedicated completionists. Worse, most of it is tedious or just not that compelling. There's no option to retry from checkpoints, many stages have one way doors that prevent you from backtracking, and I never stopped being annoyed when I'd find 19 of the 20 red coins and get nothing for it. One specific oddity is that you're not able to get collectibles you missed when playing the reverse-stage, which seems like a missed opportunity to lessen the tedium. You need to obtain flowers to progress through the game but the required number is very low and you thankfully only need about 50% of the total to get the final challenge levels. I happily stopped playing after these challenge levels as I felt I'd seen everything the game had to offer. It seems to me that Good-Feel was aware of how mundane its extra content was so they only required you to dip your toes in it. I'm left wondering why they didn't instead offer less objectives but make them actually worth your time.

Yoshi's Crafted World is a delightful platformer, that's generally pretty enjoyable but only hits a high note a few times in its 10-15 hour quest. It wants to focus more on exploration but is still chained to the second dimension, while its platforming and 100% quest are a notable step backwards. It's a good time but hard for me to recommend over Mario Odyssey or Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, even for a younger gamer.

You most likely won’t ever see a theme twice in your playthrough. I also like, how each level has its own gameplay elements, which make them even more memorable as they already are, because of the artstyle. The ability to shoot eggs at objects in the background also makes the levels more alive. Although this ability is sometimes required to collect red coins or crafts, I would have liked it more, if it would have been used more often to progress in a level, since this is the first Yoshi game with such a mechanic.

I also like, that you have to collect some of the smiley flowers to progress in the game, so you don’t just rush through each level, without examining the environment. After completing a level you get access to the flipside of the level. Instead of collecting coins or smiley flowers, you have to find all three poochy babies and bring them to the goal in time to get all the awards. Even though it’s nice to see a stage from the other side, I’m a bit disappointed that there is not more to them. You just try to find all poochy babies and run to the end of the level as fast as possible. There is no reason to examine the flipside, since there are no coins and no flowers. From time to time you can collect some crafts, but that’s it. It’s just sad to see a feature, with so much potential, being downgraded to an optional hide and seek game with a time limit. There are some minigames on the frontside, where the perspective also gets flipped, but they just last for some seconds. I would have loved to see some levels with innovative uses of this feature.

The game definitely isn’t difficult, but you might have some problems here and there if you try to get all the smiley flowers and crafts. You can also increase the difficulty by not using any of the costumes, which tank some enemy attacks.

One thing that I also didn’t like that much, was the soundtrack. Most of the tracks are remixes of the main theme, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it got kind of repetitive and annoying after some time. While some of them are pretty good, it could have been so much better.

Other than that, I really liked Yoshi’s Crafted World. It was a really refreshing 2D platformer with interesting mechanics and unique level design. Even though the flipsides felt a bit empty and the soundtrack was kinda disappointing, the game itself is really good.

This game is great! It's so adorable, and it gives me a reason to beat a yoshi game. It's easy enough for anyone to beat, while also hiding some challenges too. But it takes FORVER to collect costumes.

I like Yoshi’s crafted world because you can collect lots of costumes. You need to eat shy guys to collect different coloured eggs. The thing I don’t like is in the ninja lands on the boss I had to put it on mellow mode because there was a giant obstacle in the way. By Ollie (6 years).

Yet, it is not perfect. Resolution when docked is not the best at all and in portable it is blurry as hell, still, it doesn't affect the gaming and fun when playing. Soundtrack is good, but too repetitive, the main theme will stuck in your head until you don't know if you love it or hate it. Unavoidable. And it's last negative aspect, obviously... it's price. Yes it is a Nintendo main line Yoshi game, what do you expected? Well, nothing. At the end I'm not gonna play as many hours on this yoshi than SSBU, so... that's why. Nevertheless, as I said, i am enjoying and having lots of fun with this shiny little gem that is Yoshi's crafted world.

This is by far one of the most creative/original games I've seen on the switch. The collectibles in this game keep making me want to come back to the levels to find them all, personally, I haven't got all of the collectibles myself, but I have finished the main storyline. This is one of the best Yoshi games out there for new players and returning players. In most of my reviews, I've pointed out that I don't care about the graphics, but the character in this game (Baby Bowser) looks exactly like Bowser Jr. without the bib and it's not his original style for Baby Bowser and that kind of disappointed me and it felt like the developers were being lazy with his character model, but that's just a minor fault of the developers. Also, the cutscenes are short, simple, and interactive and the way the bosses form is just brilliant, it takes you back to when you were a kid and you imagined every piece of furniture/scraps/machines/art/everyday items as an entity that had a personality attached to it. This game is so crafty and distracts you from how the real world is, the music is catchy and pleasant. I've also wondered why black and white Yoshi are not in this game? Overall an amazing experience, especially the Poochy and Poochy Pups mechanic that just makes the game a lot more fun. The multiplayer kind of changes the pace of things, but you get a laugh out of it. Especially the riding on each other part, that cracked me up, like Yoshi attack ride! Also, those mini-games are on point! Satisfying game. Expand

After I finished New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe, I was looking for another pure Nintendo platformer. Yoshi brought the cute aspect with a nice twist of exploration, but I feels so easy and childish that I feel like giving up on it after less than 3 hours of gaming. I would recommend the game to children but not to teens or adults, even not to the most Yoshi-fans or nostalgic ones.

This game is also PERFECT to play with kids!
My 7 year old daughter jumped right in and loved it instantly. They even have a mellow mode where you can basically fly with Yoshi and death is almost non existent.
The colors, characters and level design are all top notch.
Controls are tight and dood just this game just has that classic awesome video game feel to it !

Another great Yoshi's outing. Big, sprawling, and more about COLLECTING than platforming, which I love! It's like Pikmin marrying Mario!

Get all the flowers or miss out on how challenging this game can get. Some of the new levels the open up are A+ platform level in difficulty. Trying to clear those AND getting all the flowers, OMG!

And, I read some complaints about the bosses: the DOJO Puzzle Boss was fantastic. One of the best designs of a boss stage ever. It requires true brain power!

Collect all the costumes YES. However, I would suggest not using them much as they make the game easier (though Wooly World had something like this too).

Overall, a fantastic experience from beginning to end!

I went into this game expecting to like it as much as I liked Yoshi's Woolly World. I though Woolly World was just OK. Not bad, not amazing. But I liked Crafted World a lot more. The new mechanics really make this game shine. I mean, Yoshi is adorable on his own, but there's a feeling of cohesion here, like every little element is perfectly in place. No lengthy cutscenes or unnecessary exposition, just pure charm all the way.

Kinda garbage. Nintendo really needs to do something different with this series - is beyond boring now. Art direction is nice (why I gave it a one) but the objectives are tedious, the gameplay repetitious, the graphics fidelity get really bad in some levels and the music is absolutely garbage. Really thought this game was great. Lots of replayability and stuff to collect. The worlds are really colorful and pretty. The coop is fine but 4 player would be nice. The game is simple but also nice to play through. Quite a step up from the painfully average Yoshi's Woolly World. Some of the ideas regarding the style and gameplay are very unique and it made the game a lot of fun to play.

Yes, it's easy. Yes, it's for kids. CHARM is the word that all reviewers are giving for this game. If you are looking for a challenge, it is still here, just wait for the final 4 stages! A wonderful platformer, filled with CHARM and imagination! 10/10. Well done again, Nintendo!

Yoshi’s Crafted World is a decent platformer that is fun to go through, despite its minor hiccups. How players can approach this game depends on either desiring to reach the end of it or collecting everything to completion. The game won’t raise the bar, but it will remind you that it is a harmless artsy platformer starring everyone’s favorite rideable green dinosaur.

Yoshi’s Crafted World doesn’t bring anything new to the formula — everything is lifted from other arcade games and previous Yoshi’s adventures. Still, it never gets boring.
